“RUNNING WITH THE WIND” By Rev. Dan Minor - revdminor@att.net _____________________________________ “The wind blows wherever it pleases” (John 3:8)

Any runner understands it is easier to run with the wind on your back. Running with the wind gives a feeling of exhilaration, liveliness and encouragement. In the Bible, wind is a symbol of the Spirit of God. For example, in the story of creation, God “formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being” (Genesis 2:7). In the story of Nicodemus (a high ranking member of the Jewish Council), Jesus used the analogy of wind to describe how the Spirit of God brings one to faith in Christ (John 3:8). Jesus was saying to him and to us “listen to the Spirit.” The story of Pentecost (Birth of the Church) is recorded in the second chapter of the book of Acts. In Acts 2:2 we read, “Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.” If we were to hear the testimonies of the great saints of the church (Luther, Wesley, Martin Luther King, Jr., Saint Teresa) we would hear each tell of how the wind of God’s Spirit came to them. Every pastor has heard the witness of many people telling the story of how they experienced God’s saving, sustaining and healing grace. What is your story? As runners in the race of faith (Hebrews 12:1) we need to be reminded to go with the flow of God’s Spirit. One thing is for sure: Running with the wind is much better than running against it!

AGE 100 - KALAMAZOO, MI (FORMERLY OF GOBLES) Anna passed away Saturday, November 5, 2016 at Rose Arbor in Kalamazoo. Anna was born September 20, 1916 in Wheaton Illinois, to Alfred and Louise Kaats and had resided in the Gobles area for 90 years. Anna graduated from Gobles High School and Maher's Business College. On February 1, 1941 she married Freeman Irons. Anna enjoyed gardening, camping and reading. She was a loving mother and grandmother whose family truly meant everything to her. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and attending their many sporting events. Surviving are her 3 children, William (Linda Greene) Irons, Judy (Larry) Raab and Jill (Bill) Nash; grandchildren, Wendy (Eric) Blanton, David (Tara) Wheeler, Robert Irons, Kevin (Katie Melvin) Wheeler and Amy (Scott) Meert; great grandchildren, Alex Blanton, Victoria Blanton, Kami (Jake) Davison, Kendra Wheeler, Abigail Wheeler, Jennifer Wheeler, Autumn Wheeler, Christianna Trutsch, Alyssa Trutsch, Jebediah Meert; great great grandchildren, Addyson, Kylian, Delaney Davison. Jeannine passed away peacefully on November 7, 2016 at Rose Arbor Hospice. She was born on April 6, 1933 in Louisville, KY, the daughter of Edward and Evelyn (Barnes) Goffinet. Jeannine was a gifted artist, an avid reader and gardener. She loved spending time with her family and her furry family. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Bill Gregg; children, Tom (Thia Rose) Reising, Lin (Dan) Lukins, Laura Reising, Scott (Vicky Frame) Reising and Beth Franko; grandchildren, Patty, Jacob, Sara, Carly and Nick and great-grandchildren, Crystal, Nicole, Lillian, Gabriel, Jasper and Oliver. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Pete; husband, Tom Reising and 2 daughters, Ann Marie Reising and Mary Elizabeth Reising. According to her wishes cremation has taken place. No services will be held per Jeannine’s instruction. Her family asks that in her memory please perform a random act of kindness and be peaceful. Virginia L. LEINS AGE 87 - ALLEGAN, MI

Viginia Leins (LoBretto) (Ferris) passed away on November 5, 2016 at Rose Arbor in Kalamazoo. She was born in Allegan, MI, on April 30, 1929 the daughter of the late Karl and Sara (Hammer) Ferris. She was the mother of five children, Linda, James, Frances, Tony and Timothy LoBretto. Virginia was a founding member of the Ravine Road Baptist church in Alamo. She worked at General Electric and Parker Hannifin. She loved to travel and made many trips throughout the U.S., including Hawaii and also to Canada. With her late husband Ned Leins she produced crafts sold at flea markets and craft sales throughout Michigan. She will be remembered by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as her extended family and friends. The LoBretto family would like to thank the staff of Sojourner Place and Rose Arbor who provided care and friendship to their mother in her final years. As per her wishes a private service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be given to Rose Arbor Hospice, c/o of the funeral home. Arrangements by
