I remember as a nine or ten year old standing before a floor length mirror in my bedroom wear ing a bathrobe with a Bible in my hands pretending to preach One of the joys of childhood was spending time on my Grandpa and Grandma Blanchard’s far m In reflecting back years later, my Grandma Blanchard told me she once caught me “preaching to the chickens” in the henhouse I wonder where that idea came from?

Children have the gift of imagination and they tend to imitate what they see It may be a character on television or even our own parents Sometimes they dress like them talk like them and act like them This is a roundabout way of saying; Jesus wants us to imitate Him Apostle Paul talked about having “the mind of Chr ist” (Philippians 2:5) So, how are we supposed to do that?

1 SPEND TIME WITH HIM

Spending time with Jesus is the best way of imitating Him Prayers in the mor ning are the best way to star t the day In Psalm 5:3 we read “In the mor ning, O Lord, you hear my voice; in the mor ning I l ay my r e q u e s t

2 FOCUS ON HIM In Colossians 3:1 we read “Since then you have been raised with Chr ist, set your hear ts on things above, where Chr ist is seated at the r ight hand of God When we focus our thoughts on Him, we become more like Him

3 THINK LIKE HIM In

Dear Lord, we want to be more like You In Your strong name Amen

Lending Hands of Michigan Celebrates 20 Years of Service During 2025

Lending Hands of Michigan, Inc , is a nonprofit social service organization located in Por tage, Michigan It provides home durable medical equipment, free for up to seven months, to residents in the Southwest Michigan counties of Allegan, Calhoun, Cass, Kalamazoo, St Joseph and Van Buren

Kalamazoo resident John Hilliard founded what was to become Lending Hands in 2005 While caring for his mother, Hilliard began collecting discarded medical equipment for other friends and family members in need Repairing the equipment in his garage, requests for these services g rew, so did the vision for a new organization With a generous financial donation from the Kalamazoo Community Foundation, Lending Hands of Michigan was later incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization It continues to be governed by a local Board of Directors

the time he did, but every once in a while I caught him sleeping

During the past 20 years, the organization has served more than 70,000 clients providing nearly 80,000 pieces of medical equipment It is estimated that the value of services to clients, health care systems, and social services agency’s is more than $12 million Examples of equipment available include wheelchairs, walkers and bath transfer benches

Your local Menards home improvement stores in Kalamazoo are now serving as drop sites for a local food pantry through the month of March 2025 We're excited to par ticipate in this wonder ful oppor tunit y while lending a helping hand to the communit y! Menards offers a wide variety of non-perishable food items that can be donated to the food pantries, from boxes of cereal to cans of soup that can be found in our g rocery depar tment for immediate donation

Sometimes we wonder if God really sees us, our pain, potential, and success Or is He sleeping on the bleachers while we struggle on the playing field of life? In Genesis 16, an Egyptian slave woman named Hagar was probably wondering the same thing She was invisible to most people As an Egyptian, she was a foreigner, an outsider living in a Hebrew world As a servant in the household of Abraham and Sarah, she had no status She felt like a piece of property Unloved Unknown Unseen INVISIBLE

More than half of Americans feel invisible too, according to an Ipsos Poll conducted a few years back It is human to want to be seen We post on social media wanting someone to see our pain and empathize with us, to see our potential and affirm us, and to see our success and celebrate with us The problem is that because we all want so desperately to be seen, so few of us actually see

Hagar the invisible, during a terrible horrible no good very bad day in her life, was seen by the eyes of her father- God She was shocked that God would see a nobody like her “She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: ‘You are the God who sees me I have now seen the One who sees me’” (Genesis 16:13) Hagar went right back into the horrible situation she tried to escape Circumstances didn’t change, but everything was different Hagar saw the God who sees her And that made her life worth living

COME WORSHIP JESUS WITH US ANY SUNDAY AT 10:40AM

Our ser vices are shor t but impactful We also have a fun-filled and safe program dur ing that time for kids ages 0-10

Hagar may have been invisible to the people around her, but God saw her and that was all that mattered You are not invisible You are known, loved, and seen by the God of the universe

~ Pastor Lenny Luchetti

Dedicated volunteers make this possible Annually more than 40 volunteers working in 3-hour shifts clean and repair donated equipment, work on data entry and provide client communication and assistance Lending Hands will celebrate its 20-year anniversary with special prog ramming during 2025 including a facility open house with tours on Saturday, May 3 A photog raphic inventory of equipment is available on the Lending Hands website The organization is unable to make deliveries, however, equipment may be reserved online Curbside pickups are available at the Por tage location during regular business hours, 269 567 4381 For more info, www lendinghandsmi org
