Charlotte Ann CHAPPELL PLAINWELL MI

Charlotte Ann Chappell passed peacefully at her home December 24th, 2024, after a short battle with cancer A special thanks to her daughterin-law Angela and hospice care Charlotte graduated from Delton Kellogg high school in 1977 and soon after started working for Parker Hannifin where she continued to work for 40 years, retiring in 2019 Char was married to her devoted and doting husband, Jeff Chappell for 29 years Jeff always ensured she never went without anything she wanted “Always let her think she’s in charge” he’d say, but we all knew he’d give that woman whatever she wanted as soon as she wanted it Together they raised two children, Bill Chappell (40) and Deanna DuPrie (Fliearman) (36) While raising her children, on weekends in the summer she could be found at the dirt bike tracks ensuring the family was fed and prepared to race; or around the pool at her home (though she couldn’t swim to save her life, especially if it meant putting her head under water) Char always made sure her home was the place for the kids to hang out Many of their children’s friends will remember the days of garage parties and trips to Michigan's Adventure where Char always provided a fun and welcoming environment She was the mom you knew would be on every field trip for her daughter Later she loved spending time in her home with her husband and grandsons, helping to watch Maddex since he first came home from the NICU She was the ideal homemaker and took great pride in keeping a lovely pristine home Char always told it like she saw it and took no crap “Don’t ask me how something is if you don’t want the answer” was a motto she lived by Never stepping down, even if it meant taking herself to a Denny’s Kitchen to get her own coffee! She used her direct and firm nature to stand up not only for her family but those around her with fierce determination Char leaves behind her husband: Jeff Chappell; son Bill (Angela) Chappell; daughter Deanna (Alonzo) DuPrie; grandsons: Kegan Brady and Maddex; sisters: Vicki (Dan) Ayres and Brenda (Adam) Holloway; brother Tom Sowels, as well as her nieces and nephews She’s preceded in death by her mother Eleanor and her brother Dan She will be deeply missed but never forgotten A soul that can never diminish

Carmon WESTBERG

On December 25th, 2024, Carmon Jean Westberg passed away peacefully in her home Carmon always had a way with words She was a poet and kept many journals full of her fond memories She had a great love for life and has a gypsy soul Carmon's family was her pride and joy She enjoyed painting, coloring and listening to music She loved long walks on the beach, collecting rocks, spontaneous road trips North, dancing in the rain and the sky painted in sunsets; but she loved nothing more than being with her family Carmon was preceded in death by her father, Thomas William Olmstead, and her granddaughter, Rylee Jean She is survived by her husband, Herb Westberg; her daughters: Shaunna (Bobby) Oxford, Mindy Morrison (Danny Oxford), Megyn (Jeremy) Hettinger; her bonus child, Lee Shelagowski; her grandchildren: Crystal, DJ, Breanna, Brynn, Camron, Evan and Oliver; her mom and dad, Iris and Jay Spencer; her siblings: Renee (Lincoln) Jenney, Shenda Olmstead, Thomas (Karen) Olmstead, Jay (Matsue) Spencer and Rusty Spencer; and several nieces, nephews and great grandchildren Upon Carmon's request cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life will take place at a later date In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Carmon Westberg to the Wings of Hope Hospice in Allegan, MI

She was born July 18, 1947, in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Lewis and Ethel (McMains) Willard For over 40 years

Connie worked at Parker Hannifin until her retirement

She was a member of the Otsego Moose Lodge where she enjoyed spending time with her friends Surviving are her children, Mike McCormick, Greg (Cheryl) McCormick and Lisa (Jim) Cook and 6 grandchildren She was preceded in death by her parents According to her wishes cremation has taken place Burial of ashes will be held at West Cooper Cemetery in Cooper Township at a later time Contributions in memory of Connie may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Otsego Moose Lodge

As we begin a new year, many are thinking about getting better organized by getting r id of the things they don’t need any more There are any number of businesses which will help us to do that One ad reads, “Declutter Without the Hassle ” Another one reads, “Declutter ing & Organizing Tips and Tr icks ” I wonder if God wants us to declutter our lives In 2 Kings 20:1 the prophet Isaiah gives Hezekiah, king of Judah, a message from God The king was cr itically ill and not expected to live The prophet said to him, “This is what the Lord says: Put your house in order ” Over the years, members of churches I have ser ved would ask me to look in on a family member who might be in need of a pastoral visit I recall one in par ticular whose hear t was hardened and would not listen to any talk about God I wondered if he would ever come to the point of wanting God in his life Then one day he was in the hospital and ver y ill The words came out of my mouth faster than I could think: “Do you want to be saved?” He said, “Yes! Yes! I want to be saved ”

Jesus said the reason He came to ear th was “to seek and to save the lost” (Luke 19:10) In the 15th chapter of Luke’s account of the gospel, Jesus tells parables about four who were lost Sheep were lost through other interests A coin was lost through idleness The prodigal son was lost through sinful desires The “Elder Brother” was lost through pr ide The good news is that Jesus is always within reach As one of my preaching professors in seminar y often said, “He is closer than breathing Nearer than hands and feet ”

The list of things we can do without in our lives is e n d l e s s I t i n c l u d e s s u c h t h i n g s a s h a t e, resentment, jealousy, selfishness, and greed We can add to the list anything that is weighing us down The good news is that Jesus is in the “House Cleaning Business ” He did that by dying on the cross for our sins The good news is that we can enter into a new year “uncluttered ”

Here are some verses that will help us to do just that: “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off ever ything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us r un with perseverance the race mar ked out for us Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith ” (Hebrews 12:1, 2) With that, I would like to wish ever yone a blessed new year!

RAINBOW in the RAIN!

rains down pain, frustration, and disappointment?

Job, in the biblical book that bears his name, experienced a downpour of pain In Job chapter 1, we discover that life was mostly sunny for Job He was known as a good man who was living the good life He had lots of land, livestock, and a litter of kids- 10 to be exact! Job loved God when his life was sunny Who wouldn’t? But would he still love God even when life rained? Satan wondered the same thing

Later in chapter 1, Job lost his wealth, health, and children Obviously, Job was devastated by the loss What’s remarkable, however, is Job’s immediate response to the rainstorm of life Let’s be honest, when we are doing the right things for the right reasons and still experience the rain of pain, our love for God can be diminished But Job shows us a different way to navigate rain Job’s immediate and incredible response to intense pain is not to run from God but to God Here is what we read: “At this, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head Then he fell to the ground in worship and said: “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised” (Job 1:20-21) Job worshiped God in the rain! How did Job love and trust God when life rained, and rained hard? He believed that despite the rain, God was still with him Even though rain clouds might hide his presence from us, if we look long enough, we will see that He is with us in the rain Jesus, who said “I am with you always” (Matthew 28:20), is our Rainbow in the rain
