AGE 81 - PLAINWELL, MI

Paul died December 9, 2019 in Kalamazoo, MI. His heart was so strong it wouldn’t stop. Paul was born June 14, 1938 to Albert H. and Evon D. (Buhren) Warnement in Plainwell, MI. The seventh son of a large catholic family in Plainwell, he was pre-deceased by his parents and six siblings: Joan (Lloyd) Boniface, Bernard (Vivian) Warnement, Louise (Bruce) Gates, Albert W (Sally) Warnement, Francis Warnement, and Edward (Jane) Warnement. Paul married Martha Ann Salisbury on August 26 1961. They divorced in 1991, and Martyanne preceded him in death. Paul is survived by two sons, Albert O. Warnement (Renee) of Lexington, IL and Patrick R. Warnement of San Diego, CA. Two granddaughters, Caitlin (Andrew) Tallman of Ft. Sam Houston, TX, and Kelsey (Ryan) Rohren of Ft. Hood, Texas. Three great grandchildren; Charlotte, Auric and Rigley. Also surviving are Vivian and Sally Warnement, nieces and nephews on both sides of the family too numerous to list here, as well as close friends Bruce Steele, Brad Keeler and Barb Bechtel, and hundreds of customers and business associates. A devout Catholic, he was raised in St. Margaret’s Catholic Church, Otsego. On moving to Prairieville, he joined St. Ambrose in Delton before the current church was complete. A fixture of his parish, he raised money to complete the church, served in every lay position available, and was as familiar to parishioners as the sanctuary itself. He worked for over 60 years as an Ag Mechanic for the family business, A.H. Warnement Implement in Plainwell. He was certified by John Deere as a mechanic in the New Generation series of tractors. Paul served his country from January 1962 to December, 1963 as a Military Policeman, 2nd PLT, 188th MP Company, St. Nazaire, France. He was a recipient of the 2017 Lifetime Achievement Award bestowed by the Plainwell Chamber of Commerce. He was also an active member of the Plainwell High School Alumni Association, specifically restoring and maintaining historical items. Flowers are appreciated, however the family would prefer a memorial donation to Rose Arbor Hospice, Prairieville Township Fire department, or the charity of your choice. Paul’s family will receive friends on Monday, December 16, 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Williams-Gores Funeral Home in Delton where the rosary will be prayed at 7:30 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 17, 2019, 11:00 AM at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Delton Rev. Fr. Rob Johansen, celebrant. On December 8, 2019, Felipe Barrera Martinez (Apa), loving husband, brother and father of 9 children passed away at the age of 84. Felipe was born on May 1, 1935 in Port Isabel, Texas to Alejandro and Victoria Barerra Martinez. In 1959 he married Consuelo Facio. Together they raised two sons, Carlos Facio and Felipe Jr. and seven daughters, Maria Guadalupe, Romelia Suzanne, Mickey, Maria E. (Virginia), Connie and Raquel. In his early years he attended Our Lady Star of the Sea Church. Apa enjoyed volunteering at St. Mary’s Catholic Diocese in Kalamazoo doing Spanish services and with the Salvation Army. Apa had a passion for entertaining and loved people. He loved to grill and cook for his family and friends. He liked being outdoors where he could sit and birdwatch. He was also known for singing, whistling and playing the harmonica to his favorite music especially, Freddy Fender, Hank Williams and Johnny Cash. Apa also loved to dance with his wife. He had a compassionate spirit. Everyone had a seat at his table and a place to rest in his house. Apa loved everyone. Now that he is resting with our Lord, he will be missed and forever cherished. Let our lives be as full and giving as his. Friends may visit with Apa’s family from 5-8 PM, Friday, December 13, 2019 at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, December 14, 2019. Cremation will follow. Burial of ashes will take place in Texas at a later time. Contributions in memory of Apa may be made to Wings of Hope Hospice. Roberta Lee Covault, 84 of Allegan, passed away Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at her home. Born July 21, 1935 in Detroit, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Marie (Delbridge) Hare and the wife of Calvin C. Covault. Much of Roberta’s life was spent working as a payroll clerk for various companies, along with a few other jobs, prior to her retirement. She and Calvin raised three sons and a daughter and were blessed with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one greatgreat-grandchild. Roberta was a member of the Trowbridge Community Church. She enjoyed reading and working on her crafts, however, many would say that she liked to talk the most. Worrying came easy for Roberta and having so many in her family gave her a lot to worrying about! She was a kind-hearted woman who loved going with her husband on their weekly Sunday breakfast outing. Her presence in their lives will be greatly missed. In addition to her husband of 66 years, Calvin, she is survived by her children, Mark (Jackie) Covault, Randy (Diane) Covault, Bruce (Kristie) Covault and Melinda Knapp; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and one great-greatgrandchild. Along with her parents, Harold and Marie, she was preceded in death by her stepbrother, Robert Hare. To celebrate her life, the family met with friends at the Merson Church on Friday, December 6, 2019 from 10:00 – 11:00 AM, at which time the funeral service began, Pastor Alan Carson, Sr. officiated. Larry passed away peacefully, Saturday, December 7, 2019 at his home in Allegan. He was born July 14, 1942 in Plainwell the son of Leslie and Maxine (Bullard) Weaver. For 9 years he had worked at Plainwell Paper and for 29 years Larry had worked in the maintenance department at Menasha until his retirement in 2000. In his spare time Larry enjoyed golfing, tinkering with cars, doing model cars and shopping for cars. On March 10, 1962 in Allegan he married Barbara Germain who survives. Also surviving are his son, Todd (Shannon) Weaver of Gobles; grandchildren, Stephanie, Ashley, Rebecca (Craig), Nathan (Bethani), Deana and Bailey; one great-grandson, Brantley along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sons, Jeff and Terry and 2 brothers, Donald and Richard. Funeral services took place Friday, December 13, 2019. Pastor Greg Carlson officiated. Burial followed at Mountain Home Cemetery in Otsego. Contributions in memory of Larry may be made to Wings Home of Allegan. AGE 82 - GRAND JUNCTION, MI Leonard passed away Sunday, December 8, 2019 at the Wings Home in Allegan. He was born July 27, 1937 in Watson Township, the son of Leonard and Flouedra (Robar) Riley. Leonard proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. For many years he was a millwright for Rockwell International. He enjoyed fishing, knife making, working in his flower garden, berry picking and playing aggravation. Surviving are his children, Anthony (Byllie) Riley of Plainwell, Sherri Riley of Gobles and Darlene Riley of Galesburg; 4 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Marion Sweeny, Leona McKee (Pete); Kathryn Menck and Margaret Delp along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Janice and siblings, George, David and Patrick. Funeral services were held Thursday, December 12, 2019. Pastor Greg Carlson officiated. Burial followed at Mountain Home Cemetery, Otsego. Contributions in memory of Leonard may be made to the Wings Home of Allegan.
