Does Treatment for Neuropathy Pain Have to Involve Prescription Drugs?

Where Volunteers Make It Happen.

God has promised to meet all our needs. In his closing words to believers at Philippi, Apostle Paul reminded them of God’s constant peace and abiding presence. He thanked them for their support of his ministry (Philippians 4:10, 14-19). The apostle knew what it meant to be in need (4:12), and was quick to give glory to God (4:20) for seeing him through every situation.

Our God promises the same for us. God’s love is unfailing (I Corinthians 13:8). God’s grace is unending (John 1:16). God’s nature is unchanging (James 1:17). God’s mercy is boundless (Psalm 100:5). God’s Word is timeless (I Peter 1:25). God’s presence is endless (Matthew 28:20). God’s promises are unbreakable (Titus 1:2). God’s peace is unshakable (Isaiah 54:10). God’s power is unlimited (Ephesians 3:20). God’s Kingdom is indestructible (Revelation 11:15). God’s salvation is imperishable (John 3:16).

Some years ago when Norris Dam was first built in East Tennessee, a worker on the night shift noticed something that looked strange to him. He could hear the great dynamos humming in the quiet of night but at the same time he noticed every cabin in sight was lit not by electrical energy, but by kerosene lamps. He later learned that the reason for that was the transmission lines had not yet been laid. The power was there but they were not plugged into it. The point: God’s supply chain is always in operation. All we need to do is plug into it! Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You for meeting our needs. In Your strong name. Amen.

Changing times meant the Plainwell Volunteer Christmas Project faced some challenges during its 48th annual outreach. Those changes did not mean the effort was abandoned. Instead, our community pulled together even more strongly to help brighten the holiday season for over 600 people in more than 150 families living the Plainwell area. Individuals, groups, and businesses privately sponsored over 40 families! The remaining families received items donated by the community and packed by volunteers on December 17th, inside Plainwell High School for distribution the next day. Each contribution to our group (the PVCP) makes a very real difference in the lives of the children and adults alike in our community. The PVCP is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Issue Passports after attending the provided federal Passport Acceptance Agent training. 9. Organize documents into a numeric filing system. 10. Data entry into computer databases including the handling of death certificates and cemetery records. 11. Answer and transfer phone calls to the appropriate department. 12. Set appointments using a digital calendar. 13. Maintain office supply inventory. 14. Other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 1. Advanced computer skills, four-year college degree, or management may, at its discretion, substitute a combination of education and experience. 2. Be able to understand and follow written and oral directions. 4. Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with the general public and create and maintain a good working relationship with co-workers. 5. Capable of climbing stairs, as well as bend and/or lift and carry at least 25 pounds. 6. Working knowledge of elections and election laws preferred. 7. David James Wobma, age 70, went to be with his Heavenly Father Saturday, January 8, 2022. David was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Deb, as well as his parents Ruth and Donald Wobma. Dave attended Wayland High School, graduating in 1969. In August of 1972, David married Deb and they resided in Wayland, before moving to their forever home in Martin. They raised two daughters Jennifer and Melissa together, while he worked at Parker Hannifin in Otsego for more than 40 years. David enjoyed being a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He also was a friend to all, telling stories and joking with anyone who would listen. He enjoyed farming, gardening, nature, long drives without a destination, attending his daughters' and grandchildren’s events, and never gave up a chance to get lost in the woods. Dave possessed a big heart and a kind soul. He will be truly missed by all who knew him, including a golden retriever, Athena. David is survived by his daughters Jennifer (Andy) Billington, Melissa (Kevin) Falicki; and grandchildren Kyle, Chloe, Julia, and Heidi. His siblings include Becky (Donald) Good, Nancy (Bill) Dreyer, Robin (Mike) Elliston, Amy Grover, and Peter Wobma. A Celebration of Life open house will be held at Bay Pointe from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. Saturday, January 29, 2022. “Not all who wander are lost” RIP.

Billy Simpson of Otsego, passed away, January 11, 2022 at age 86. Born October 24, 1935 in Kalkaska, the son of George and Thelma (White) Simpson, Billy moved to Otsego in 1943. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1953-1956 in Germany. Billy worked at Allegan County Road Commission, American Aggregates and Winchester Steel over the years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching his children and grandchildren play football. Billy was a life member of the Otsego VFW Post #3030 and served as Chaplain for 15 years. He was very passionate about this position and had great respect for his fellow veterans. Before covid Billy spent his time at local nursing homes keeping fellow veterans company. He enjoyed meeting his retired buddies at local restaurants for coffee every morning when possible. On September 15, 1956 he married Peggy Town. Together they had 6 children and shared 65 wonderful years. Surviving are his wife; children, Deb (Larry) Pillars, Tammy Syers, Greg Simpson, Margie Simpson and Chuck (Amy) Simpson; grandchildren, Angie (Pat), Larry Jr., Tom, Bill (Jo Beth), Vanessa, Kayla, Tomasina, Savanna, Alyssa and Gabriel and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Tommy Simpson and grandson, Justin Syers. According to his wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service with military honors will be held at a later time. Contributions in memory of Bill may be made to VFW Post 3030.

Ted went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at his home in Plainwell. He was born June 22, 1934 in Constantine, the son of Wayne and Kate (Shook) Ransbottom. Ted retired from Perrigo as a supervisor after 29 years of service. He loved the Lord and his church. He was a perfectionist and a true gentleman with a big heart. Ted could fix anything and enjoyed landscaping, biking, gardening and trips to Plainwell Ice Cream. He was an avid MSU fan and loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. In 1956, he married Donna Markle who passed away in 1982. On November 2, 1985 he married Kristi Briggs who survives. Also surviving are his 2 daughters, Lori Ransbottom of Plainwell and Jacqueline Stack of Otsego; grandchildren, Emily, Eric and Evan Stack; great-grandson, Eli Jonker; Kristi’s children, Staci Hendershott, Kari Hendershott and Tim (Susie) Hendershott and their children, Ashlei, Karter, Morgan and Lily; Kristi’s great-grandchildren, Madi, Izzi and Lucas; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dick, Joyce, Carole, June, Linda; Kristi’s brothers and sister-in-law Butch, Kevin (Becky); his mother-in-law, Dolores Briggs; several nieces and nephews and special people, Marv and Linda Shook, Ed Shook, Gary Shook, Bruce Stack, James Johnson, Bob Fuller and Ron Newman. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; siblings, Margaret, Allen, Albert, Lester and Bonnie; father-in-law, Milton Briggs and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Leona, Phyllis, Dean and Rosie, Arlene, Dorothy, Betty, Art, Don and Shirley. AGE 81 - WATSON TOWNSHIP, MI Jerry passed away Friday, January 7, 2022 in Kalamazoo. He was born March 14, 1940 in Chicago, the son of Albert and Aluria (Boris) Norkus. As a young man he worked as a mechanic and later as a long haul truck driver until his retirement in 1989. In his free time Jerry enjoyed fishing, Harley motorcycles, boating, playing cards, cutting wood, small engine repair and keeping busy. He was a long time member of the Otsego Elks and the Allegan Eagles. On June 7, 1958 in Chicago, he married Judy Loveless who survives. Also surviving are his children, Tamy (Tim) Nogle of Plainwell, Bonnie (Jack) Howard of Plainwell, Barbara (Dave) Miller of PA and Jerry Jr. (Leanne) Hill of Martin; 5 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren; sister, Bernadine of TX along with 2 nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents. According to his wishes cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at a later time. Jeffery J. SCOBEY AGE 39 - OTSEGO, MI

Jeff passed away Friday January 7, 2022 in Otsego. He was born on March 9, 1982 in Plainwell, the son of Russell and Linda Scobey. Jeff grew up on Pine Lake, where he enjoyed boating, tubing and swimming. He attended Delton Kellogg High School. One of Jeff's greatest passions was DJing at parties, which he was taught by his good friends Nate and Angel Cork. He was preceded in death by his mother Linda Scobey. He is survived by his daughters, Haley Scobey and Lilly Nichols-Scobey, father Russell Scobey, sisters Cindy Onderlinde (Steve Onderlinde) and Christy Wolbers, and his nieces and nephew. According to his wishes, he will be cremated and burial will take place at a later date.

AGE 96 - PLAINWELL, MI Marie Leonard, 96, from Plainwell, Michigan, passed away peacefully in Forsyth, Georgia on January 11, 2022. Marie was born Violet Marie Collick in Allegan, Michigan to parents Rose Hannah Hawkins and Thomas John Collick, Sr. Marie graduated from Delton High School, and worked as a librarian for Plainwell Schools until her retirement. She was an active member of the former Twin Lakes Church, loved to bake, garden, watch cycling, cross stitch, and care for her loving family. Marie is survived by her three children and their spouses, Terry and Brian Whitney of Plainwell, Michigan, Sherry and Tom Heitman of Flushing, Michigan, and Barry and Deanna Leonard of Forsyth, Georgia. Marie is also survived by her daughter-in-law Brenda Leonard of Alamo, Michigan. Marie’s large family also includes 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 4 greatgreat-grandchildren. Passing prior to her death were her husband Phillip Otto Leonard and her eldest son, Larry Leonard. Marie had a zest for life like no other. She was a sunﬂower to all, with a no nonsense attitude and told it like it was. Fierce, feisty and funny, she will be dearly missed. A celebration of life memorial service for Marie will be held in late Spring in Gobles, Michigan. Charlene L. SHUMAKER AGE 89 - ORANGEVILLE, MI

Charlene Louise Shumaker, age 89 of Orangeville, passed away on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at Plainwell Pines. She was born on August 30, 1932 in Oshtemo, Michigan. Charlene was the daughter of Howard Sr. and Dorothy (Yerden) Bryant. Charlene graduated from Otsego High School in 1950, where she was active in many different groups. Charlene was the proud owner of the Gun River Inn, also known as the Orangeville Tavern for over 34 years. She was known for being the honorary “law and order keeper” at the tavern. Charlene will be most remembered for her strong-willed attitude. She is survived by her daughters: Vicki (Craig Swanson) Shumaker, Kimberley Sullivan, Sue (Mike) Ritchie; grandchildren: Liz (Alex) Witt, Lauren Wandell, Stephanie Sullivan-Patrick, Adriane Sullivan, and Lucas Sullivan; 6 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; siblings: Rose Richards, Ethel Sladak, and Bill Kovar. She is preceded in death by her parents; daughter Jacqueline Shumaker; son-inlaw Bruce Sullivan; grandson Jason Shumaker; and siblings: Howard Bryant, Jr., Fred Kovar, Steve Kovar, Edward Kovar, Robert Kovar, and Mary Kovar. Allen R. DENNIS

AGE 69 - WAYLAND, MI Allen R. Dennis, 69, of Wayland, passed away Friday, Jan. 7, 2022, at his home. Allen was born Jan. 12, 1952 in Waterloo, Iowa. The son of Lee Roy and Helen (Berger) Barr. Allen proudly served his country in the U.S. Airforce stateside during the Vietnam conflict. Owner and operator of Rebel Trans., Wyoming, MI, Allen was a successful small-business owner for the Landstar Franchise for over 25 years. Allen earned several accolades during his tenure with Landstar, including the Executive Circle and Diamond Award. Allen was semi-retired. In his free time, he enjoyed the outdoors and golfing, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a long-time member of Pheasants Forever and Ducks Unlimited. Allen loved dogs, especially his Labradors. Allen is survived by a large family including his five children, Chad Dennis of Paragould, AR; Jason (Jessica) Dennis of Kentwood, MI; Renee Dennis of Fremont, OH; Kevin (Morgan) Dennis of Plainwell, MI; Ryan (Ashley) Dennis, of Otsego, MI; and a stepson Anthony Weaver of Otsego, MI. Six grandchildren Cody and Brandon Dennis, Brandon and Bronson Graves, Josie Dennis, and Charlie Dennis; his mother Helen Barr; his siblings Janet (Michael) Enfield, and Randy (Kelly) Dennis. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive Allen. He was preceded in death by his father, Lee Roy Dennis; his stepfather Austin Barr; and Grandfather Richard “Turner” Dennis.
