Free will was never given in order for us to do as we please, but freedom to live and work for God’s good pleasure. The question is how can we know we are making right decisions?

Stella M. WALLER AGE 68 - OTSEGO, MI

Stella passed away Friday, February 11, 2022, surrounded by her family at her home in Otsego. She was born June 9, 1953 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of John and Josephine (Goldsmith) Veld. Stella was a 1971 Otsego High School graduate and lifelong resident of the area. For 28 years she worked as a rural letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service until her retirement in 2018. In her spare time Stella enjoyed fishing, bowling, going on trips with her sisters, camping and people watching at the Allegan County Fair and Sunday morning breakfasts with her church family. She was a member of the Horseshoe Community Church in Grand Junction. Stella was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and was happiest when spending time with her family. In 2012 she married Kenneth Waller who passed away in 2020. Surviving are her children, Robin (Joe Craft) Richardson of Grand Junction, Jennifer (Ken) Knapp of Allegan, Jason (Crystal) Davis of Allegan and Regge (Lane) Haskins of Otsego, Josh Waller of Kalamazoo, Stacey (Pat) Quigley of Martin and Edith (Drew) Waller of Grand Junction; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Linda Benwire, David (Nancy) Veld, Gayle Veld-Sanders, Rhonda Peterson, Garry (Valerie) Veld and Peggy (Rochelle) Brown along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandchildren, Clayton Richardson Jr. and Kasie Richardson and great-grandson, Kashton Knapp. Funeral services were held on Monday, February 14, 2022 at the Merson Church in Gobles with Pastor Don Miller officiating. Burial followed at Lindsley Cemetery. Contributions in memory of Stella may be made to Wings of Hope Hospice of Allegan.

The Apostle Paul wrote to Timothy, “All Scripture is God-breathed, and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness …” (2 Timothy 3:16). In other words, God speaks to us through the Bible. 3. ARE OUR DECISIONS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE WAY OF GOD?

The early Christians were called “followers of the way” (Acts 9:2). It has been said life only works in one way … God’s way. When we offer ourselves to God, the Holy Spirit takes possession of our wills. This is called transformation (Romans 12:2). Thus, the will is the springboard for our actions.

In the practical sense, God took a great risk in placing a decision before Adam in the Garden of Eden. Adam, of course, made the wrong decision and all of humanity suffered because of it (Romans 5:12). Yet, God was willing to pay the price by sending Jesus to save us from our sins (Romans 6:23).

Final thought: Every day is a day of decision. Let us choose well.

Prayer: Dear Lord, take control of my will. Help me to live and serve for Your good pleasure. In Your strong name. Amen.

AGE 66 - ORANGEVILLE, MI Lisa Elaine Sheldon went to be with her Lord on February 13, 2022. Lisa was born on January 28, 1956 in Plainwell, the daughter of Paul and Opal (Marshall) Risner. Lisa enjoyed sewing, traveling, shopping, and going on vacation, especially to Daytona Beach and up north. She was accomplished in Taekwondo and was a 2nd degree black belt. Lisa lovingly made many special baby quilts for her grandchildren and other family members and friends. She was a true woman of God, and was a lifetime member of the Pentecostal Church of Christ. Lisa loved visiting other churches and attending gospel services whenever she could. She will be remembered as an inspiration to many. Lisa is survived by her mother, Opal Risner; husband, Richard Sheldon; children: Becky Sheldon, Erin Davis, and Richie Sheldon; grandchildren: Amanda, Elaina, Bella, Camden, Michael, Landon, Layla; great grandchildren: Bailey, June, Lola; brother, Corey Risner; sister, Carrie Risner; sister in law, Joni Risner; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving friends. Lisa was preceded in death by her father; brothers: Troy, Dennis, and Jamie; and son in law: Mick Davis. Funeral services were held on February 17, 2022 at Pentecostal Church of Christ. Calvin E. MORAN AGE 98 - OTSEGO, MI

Calvin passed away Saturday, February 12, 2022 at Borgess Place in Kalamazoo. He was born January 15, 1924 in Plainwell, the son of Alonzo and Hazel (New) Moran. Calvin started working at an early age in the muck fields and worked for almost 50 years at Plainwell Paper until his retirement in 1985. In his free time Calvin enjoyed squirrel and rabbit hunting and fishing. On September 26, 1946 in Otsego he married Doris Holmes who passed away in 2007. Surviving are his brother, David Moran, sisters-in-law, Joan Moran, Nancy Moran and Karen Darner along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and siblings, Alonzo, Margaret, Carol, Elton, Oscar, Phyllis, Leo, William and John. Funeral Services were held Thursday, February 17, 2022 at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego with Pastor Ray Brown officiating. Burial followed at Mountain Home Cemetery in Otsego.
