“WHAT IS TRUTH?”

We are living in the age of “half-truths” “Fake news” and “Alternative facts.” There is no such thing as a half-truth. Something is either true or false. By definition, fake news websites (also referred to as hoax news) deliberately publish hoaxes, propaganda and disinformation purporting to be real news. Alternative facts are no facts. One of the greatest American journalists of all time was Edward R. Murrow (1908-1965). Mr. Murrow (a World War II correspondent) came to prominence during a time when television was just getting started. He was universally recognized for his passion for seeking the truth. Mr. Murrow once said, “… to be persuasive we must be believable; to be believable we must be credible; to be credible we must be truthful. It is as simple as that.” The Christian believer does not have to look far to find truth. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life…” (John l4:6) Without His way there is no going; without His truth there is no knowing; without His life there is no living. During the most challenging time in His life on earth, Jesus appeared before Pilate. Pilate asked the question of the ages “What is truth?”(John 18:38). On the day of His execution, a Roman Centurion (speaking for the ages) said, “Truly, this man was God’s Son” (Matthew 27:54). Jesus Christ was the incarnation of truth… truth in a person (John l:17). He told the truth. He told the truth about sin and forgiveness; love and service; death and eternal life. On a Friday afternoon He died for truth but on resurrection morning, Truth was more alive than ever before. Truth can be discussed, debated and denied but, ultimately, truth can never be altered. Truth can never be repealed or replaced. Truth will save us; see us through any difficulty; lift us from despair and one day welcome us to our eternal home. Let us rededicate ourselves to the truth of Jesus Christ and service in His name. Amen.

Mom and Dad cannot help him, he stands all alone. A hit at this moment, would send the team home.

The ball meets the plate, he swings and he misses. There’s a groan from the crowd, with some boos and some hisses. A thoughtless voice cries, strike out the bum. Tears fill his eyes, the games no longer fun.

So open your heart and give him a break. For it’s moments like this, a man you can make.

Scott passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 31st, 2017 in Allegan, MI. Scott was born February 8th, 1960, to the late Richard and Janice Wisnaski. Scott grew up in Otsego, MI and attended Otsego High School where he graduated in 1978. After graduation he worked for Parker Hannifin in Otsego, MI where he worked for many years. Scott wrote his own rules. He fought authority and he paved his own way. And if you said he couldn’t do it, he would make sure he did it. He could always make you laugh and leaves his loved ones with many great memories to cherish forever. Scott is survived by his three daughters, Shannon (Kevin) Skiera, Sarah (Dan) Spencer, and Stephanie (Russell) White; four young grandchildren, Easton White, Eisley White, Escher White, and Liliana Spencer; siblings, Pam (Dick) Harrington, Randy (Deana) Wisnaski, David (Sharon) Wisnaski, and Kirk (Donna) Wisnaski; former wife, Linda Craner; many nieces, nephews and friends. In accordance with his wishes cremation will take place and a memorial service will be held at Otsego Township Hall, 400 N. 16th St., Otsego, MI on Saturday, February 4th, 2017 from 2-4pm. Immediately following, we will be meeting at 10th Street Saloon in Plainwell for a shot in Scott’s honor!! Dan passed away Sunday, January 29, 2017 at his home in Otsego. He was born March 29, 1961 in Boise, Idaho the son of Daniel and Mary Sue (Confer) Hurlbut. Dan enjoyed going to craft shows, reiki, studying religions, growing flowers and working on his lawn. Surviving are his parents; daughters, Maurisa Leslie of Allegan, Natesha Hurlbut of Kalamazoo and Shenea (Jeff Leslie) Hurlbut of Allegan; grandchildren, Chloe Leslie, David Bosma, Matthew Jackson, Kiara Young, Riley Young, Bentley Young, Domanick Leslie, Myla Young, Lucas Leslie and J-Lynn Leslie and his brother, David (Marta) Hurlbut. According to his wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial visitation will be held from 2-4 P.M., Saturday, February 4, 2017 at the Otsego Church of God. Burial of ashes will take place at Mountain Home Cemetery, Otsego. Contributions in memory of Dan may be made to the Otsego Church of God. AGE 51 - GOBLES, MI Sue passed away Monday, January 30, 2017 at Borgess Medical Center. She was born November 27, 1965 in Wisconsin the daughter of Eugene Spears and Sharon Jager. As a teenager Sue moved to Michigan and was a Plainwell High School graduate. For 10 years she had worked for McPherson Plastics in Otsego. Sue loved animals and had taken in many strays over the years. Quilting was her passion along with doing crafts and baking. She enjoyed surprising her family with new recipes. On October 6, 1991 in Allegan she married Jeff “Katje” Martin who survives. Also surviving are her parents; sons, Anthony “AJ” (Laura) Foote of Martin and Chad (Sami) Martin of Battle Creek; 2 grandchildren, Shalyn Foote and Emily Martin; siblings, Kristy, Geneva, Cami, Kimmy, Christopher, Donald, Mitch and Eugene; mother-in-law, Marilyn Katje; sister-in-law, Kim; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. According to her wishes cremation has taken place. Contributions in memory of Sue may be made to Wishbone Pet Rescue of Allegan County. Paul “Pete” CARY AGE 92 - OTSEGO, MI

Pete passed away Friday, January 27, 2017 surrounded by his family at the Wings Home in Allegan. He was born May 10, 1924 in Allegan the son of Harry and Jennie (Barton) Cary. He served his country in the US Army 82nd Airborne Division during WWII and was part of the Battle of the Bulge and Operation Market Garden. Pete celebrated his 21st birthday in Paris on the day the war ended. He had worked at Michigan Cottage Cheese for 25 years, owned and operated Skogmos Department Store and Bernea Foods until his retirement in 1986. In his spare time he enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting and playing cards. Pete was a life member of the Otsego Elks Lodge and the Otsego VFW Post #3030. On June 6, 1948 he married Mary Jane “Bunny” Cummings who passed away in 2015. Surviving are his children, Christine (David) Hicks of Springfield, IL, Peter (Laura) Cary of Otsego and Kevin (Melissa) Cary of Cedar Springs; granddaughter, Helena Cary of Rockford; brother, Ronald (Lee) Cary of Otsego and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and siblings, Maxine Branch and Harry Cary. Funeral services were held February 1, 2017 at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego Burial followed at Mountain Home Cemetery, Otsego. Military Honors by Otsego VFW Post #3030.
