Due to a recent promotion, we seek a Customer Service Specialist to work in a small Family feeling work environment. This position will accept inbound calls and emails, answering and supporting customers' needs and questions about our website offering. Our business is growing and expanding fast. Our customers are from all over the US and are typically fully serviced by web purchases. However, sometimes they need clarity on our products and services; this is where the Customer Service Specialist comes in. You can help them complete their purchase or guide them through the process. This position allows flexibility for scheduling purposes around your availability. The Customer Service Specialist opening can be Part or Full Time with highly flexible weekdays and even weekends if that suits your availability.

If your paper box and mail box is by your house, is the sidewalk and walkway cleared of snow and ice? Is it safe for others to walk on? We do not expect our walking route delivery people to walk through deep and uncleared sidewalks and driveways. If yours is not shoveled, you may be skipped.

“THE RIGHT PATH”

There is an old story about a man who hired a native guide to lead him through the jungles of Africa. As the wilderness became more and more dense, the man got nervous and he asked his guide, “Are you sure you know where we are going? You have no map, no compass, and there is no path!” The wise guide answered, “Sir, in this jungle I am the path! Just stay close and follow me.” This brings to mind the words of Jesus, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6). Jesus is not just one way among many. Jesus is the only way to God.

The Bible says, “There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death” (Proverbs 14:12). Thus, the question: How do we know when we are on the right path? Here are some suggestions. THE BIBLE

In l984 Amy Grant and Michael W. Smith wrote a song which became very popular entitled “Thy Word.” It is based on the words of Psalm 119:105 which read, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.”

The story of Job in the Old Testament is the classic story of faith under fire. Job lost nearly everything; his children, his wealth, his health, his social standing. Even his friends blamed him. Yet he remained faithful to God. His testimony was: “My feet have closely followed his steps; I have kept to his way without turning aside.” (Job 23:11). The human conscience has been defined as eyes of the soul and our moral compass. It is our sense of right and wrong. We were born with it. Everyone has a conscience, including those who do evil. For example, those who killed Jesus on a cross thought they were doing the right thing. The same was true of those who placed Apostle Paul in prison. Other tragic examples from our history include the Crusades, the Inquisition, the Salem Witch hunts, physical abuses, violence in our streets, etc. The Bible says, “Knowing what’s right and not doing it is sin” (James 4:17 TLB).

Sometimes, like Adam in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 1) we try to rationalize our conscience. For instance, in the novel War and Peace, the main character says, “Yes, I have sinned, but I have several excellent excuses.”

Sandra MacVEAN AGE 87 - MARTIN, MI

Sandra MacVean of Martin, surrounded by her loving family, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, January 28, 2022. She was born September 25, 1934, to Eldon VanLent Sr. and Marie (Brown) VanLent of Otsego. Sandra graduated from Otsego High School in 1952. On January 22, 1972, she married Ron MacVean of Martin. Together they farmed and raised kids. In their 50 years of marriage regular church attendance was a priority. First at Martin Methodist, later at Watson Bible and finally Gun Lake Community. Together Sandra & Ron enjoyed time with their family, the Allegan County Fair, traveling to all the lower 48 states. Even recently traveling to Alabama in December of 2021 before Sandra became ill and they returned home on January 11, 2022. Sandra is preceded in her passing by her parents; brothers: Jim VanLent and Eldon VanLent, grandson: Peter Stender; and great granddaughter: Raegan Snyder. She is survived by her husband of 50 years: Ron MacVean; sister: Sharon VanLent of Allegan; children: Deb (Marty) Tate of Coldwater, Jayne (Blaine) McLeod of White Lake, Connie (Joel) Newton of Lowell, Ken (Rosie) Jager of Martin, Mike (Carrie) Jager of Martin, Tom Jager of Wayland, Charlie (Carol) Jager of Wayland, Linda (Craig) Zeinstra of Shelbyville, Doug (Nikki) MacVean of Martin; twenty grandchildren and twenty-three great grandchildren. In accordance with the family’s wishes public services will be held at the Gun Lake Community Church, 12200 West M-179 Hwy, Wayland, MI 49348, with a visitation on Friday, February 4, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 5, 2022, with a time for visiting beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. Following the service there will be a time for food and fellowship. Sandra will be laid to rest at South Martin Cemetery following the luncheon. Memorials made in Sandra’s memory may be directed to the Wings of Hope Hospice or the Gun Lake Community Church. Margaret J. FILKINS AGE 95 - OTSEGO, MI

Margaret passed away Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at Stanford Lodge in Plainwell with several family members at her side. She was born December 1, 1926 in Otsego, the daughter of Alfred and Ethel (Fox) Rice. Margaret worked at Plainwell Sanitarium, Otsego Public Schools as a tutor and for 11 years at Stanford Lodge until her retirement at age 70. She enjoyed reading, doing puzzles with the women in her condo complex, watching talent competition shows, especially Dancing with the Stars and you knew not to call when it was on, and playing cards. If she was playing cards she was probably cheating at them! On October 21, 1944 she was married to Russell Filkins Sr. in Otsego, MI. Surviving are her children, Teri (Jack) Laster, Pat Filkins and Russ (Annie Maccune) Filkins; 11 grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren and greatgreat grandchildren; sister, Betty Martin; special cousins, Kathy Corradini and Mark Rusan; son-inlaw, Bill Shearer; step-siblings, Jim and Nancy as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Peggy Shearer and by siblings, Pauline, Burtie and Alfred Jr. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, February 5, 2022, at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego, with Celebrant Bill Rose officiating, friends are asked to arrive between 1:30 and 2 P.M. Patricia Ann (Crouse) Barnes, 77, died peacefully in her home on January 20, 2022 after a brief struggle with cancer. Born on September 16, 1944 to Melvin and Kathryn (Dumas) Crouse in Otsego, MI where she grew up and graduated high school, then enlisted in the Air Force in 1962. Pat retired from Langley Air Force Base in 1992 after a distinguished 30-year military career, obtaining the highest NCO rank of Chief Master Sergeant. She was deeply patriotic and never tired of ﬂying the American Flag or of hearing the Air Force ﬁghter jets roar overhead during training maneuvers. After retirement she earned her Associate Degree in Public Administration and Human Services from Thomas Nelson Community College, then her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology from St. Leo University. Pat also worked parttime at the Hampton Public Library. Mostly, Pat enjoyed her yard work, taking daily walks in her Old Wythe (Hampton) neighborhood for the past 20 years, and cherished her abundant friends and neighbors. Her favorite places were Fort Monroe and Colonial Williamsburg, and nothing nourished her soul like being near the water, and that’s where her ashes will be scattered. A grave marker will be placed in her honor at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA and in her hometown at Mountain Home Cemetery. Pat had an especially close relationship with her parents and her niece, taking many memorable travels with each. She used to say that she had the greatest love affair with her mother from the day she was born. Pat’s and her niece’s lives were transformed by their relationship, a generation apart, but as close at heart as could be. Pat was the quintessential Cat Lady, having had many pets through her years and assisting with projects to care for, then catch, neuter, and release feral cats. She leaves behind two beloved rescue cats. She is preceded in death by her father; beloved mother and step-father Kathryn & Ray Hughes; brother, Charles Hughes; and brother-in-law John Howe. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her sister, Donna Howe, Otsego, MI; nephews John Howe Jr., Kalamazoo, MI and Gary (Donna) Howe, Plainwell, MI; niece Deborah Williams, Floral City, FL; three great-nieces and a greatnephew, their children; and many distant relatives. Pat will also be dearly missed by numerous people, especially her long-time Hampton friends, Bill Tennis, Pat & (late) Donna Messer, Dan & Mary Magahay, Judy Hale, and June & Susan Firth. Many people called Pat “friend,” an honorable title that will remain in their hearts. Pat attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Her entire life was wrapped around her deeply held faith in Jesus Christ. Her life verse was from 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18: “Rejoice always. Pray continually. Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

Bruce C. CARROLL AGE 80 - ALLEGAN, MI

Bruce passed away Saturday, January 29, 2022 at his home in Allegan. He was born May 11, 1941 in Allegan, the son of Fred and Virginia (Leighton) Carroll. Bruce worked for APSO, Armintrout’s and owned and operated Wray’s Septic until the mid-2000’s. During his retirement he was a bus driver for AAESA and a classroom aide for Otsego Public Schools and Hillside Learning and Behavior Center. In his free time he enjoyed camping, antique cars, boating and spending time with his family. On December 10, 1976 in Allegan, he married Brenda Fullerton who survives. Also surviving are his children, Brian (Kim) Carroll of Allegan, Tonja Carroll of Allegan, Rod (Melissa) Carroll of Otsego and Beth (Anthony Cimino) Carroll of Allegan; 7 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Jeanette Carroll and Linda (Wayne) Wood along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Larry Carroll and sister, Kathleen Rybak. According to his wishes cremation has taken place. A celebration of Bruce’s life will be held at a later time. Burial of ashes will take place at Hudson Corners Cemetery. David passed away Sunday, January 30, 2022 at Ascension Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo. He was born April 27, 1954 in Evergreen Park, Illinois, the son of Richard and Francis (Rutovich) Dapser. For 20 years Dave was a bus driver and mechanic for the City of Kalamazoo. He then went on to be a long haul truck driver. Dave enjoyed volunteering for the American Red Cross and Safety Council. He was head of the canoe races in Plainwell for 10 years and organized bicycle safety rides. Dave loved riding his motorcycle, talking with people, enjoying good food with his friends and family, camping, trips to Cedar Point and Disney World and animals, especially dogs. Dave was a member of the Otsego Moose Lodge. On August 24, 1974 in Delton, he married Penny Mills who survives. Also surviving are his children, Meg (Kayce Chaney) Dapser of Otsego and Anna (Gene) Miller of Plainwell and grandchildren, Ashton Walter, Hanna Miller and Molly Miller. He was preceded in death by his parents. According to his wishes cremation has taken place. Robert went to be with the Lord January 15, 2022. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Barbara (Ziegler); son Bruce Chapman and daughter Beth Ann Degenkolb (Phil); five grandchildren: Jim (Brianna) Herzog, Rebecca (Nicholas) Albersternst, Derrick (Taylor) Chapman, David Degenkolb & Daniel Degenkolb; 4 great-grandchildren: Mason, Walker, Bonnie & Jake. Robert lived in Cooper 53 years. He retired from GM as a machinist. He enjoyed singing, hunting, fishing, farming and attending car shows with his '55 Chevy truck and '73 Corvette. Robert served as a deacon in church, was a member of Friendship Wesleyan church, served on several missions trips, was a 4-H community leader, and taught 4-H carpentry. Robert was also a worldwide traveler, played on 4-H and church softball teams and was a Boy Scout leader. He was preceded in death by his sisters: Mildred (Dave) Kloosterman, Helen (Lloyd) Bronson and brothers: Paul (Clara) Chapman, Vern (Bertha) Chapman, and James (Edith) Chapman. Robert is survived by several nieces and nephews. He loved the Lord and his family. A funeral memorial service is planned for this summer.

AGE 86 - PLAINWELL, MI Jimmie passed away on Saturday, January 29, 2022, at the age of 86. He was born on April 29, 1935, in Kalamazoo, MI the son of Clarence and Hilda (Veldt) Taft. He graduated from Delton High School in 1953, following graduation he proudly served his country by enlisting in the United States Army until being honorably discharged in 1958. He returned home to the Plainwell area and took a position working for Valley Metal until 1966 when he transitioned to Parker Hannifin, he worked there for thirty-four years before retiring. In his spare time he enjoyed bowling, woodworking, traveling, gambling, and fishing. He served as a board member for the Gun River Conservation Club for at least twenty years. He is preceded in his passing by his parents; his first wife: Virginia “Tina” Taft; and grandson: Jeffrey Taft. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of thirteen years: Joan (Hoy) Taft; children: Randy (Linda) Taft, Robert (Chris) Taft, Scott (Dana) Taft and Krystn White; grandchildren: James, Beth, Amber, Robert II, Jessica, William, Russell, Ryan, and Christina; seventeen and a half great grandchildren; siblings: Dixie and Larry (Skip); brother in-law: Mike Largent; and several nieces and nephews. In accordance with the family’s wishes cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on a later date. He will be fondly remembered by all as someone who would help anybody at the drop of a hat. Memorials made in Jimmie’s memory may be directed to the Gun River Conservation Club. Larry E. HUTCHINSON AGE 90 - OTSEGO, MI

Larry passed away Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at Vicinia Gardens in Otsego. He was born September 4, 1931 in Plainwell, the son of Leo and Lida (Derhammer) Hutchinson. Larry was a 1949 Otsego High School graduate and lifelong resident of the area. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force as a jet engine mechanic during the Korean War. Larry worked at Mac Sim Bar and for 27 years at General Motors until his retirement. In his free time he enjoyed spending time outdoors, hunting, fishing, gardening and working with his tractor. Most of all Larry loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Larry was a member of Peace Lutheran Church of Otsego. On January 28, 1956 at Zion Lutheran Church in Kalamazoo, he married Ardelle Gewiss who passed away in August 2021. Surviving are his children, Julie (Dave) Levett of Allegan and Marty (Kelley) Hutchinson of Otsego; 8 grandchildren, Austin, Brady, Coleton, Meghan, Lyndsey, Justin, Sean and Sarah; 15 great-grandchildren; brother, Donald Hutchinson along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Kathie; sister, Elizabeth and brother, Russell.
