Requirements for RUBBISH PICK-UP

1. All residents living on private roads must have the trash placed at the end of the road in a pile.

2. Refuse must be limited to what two men can lift.

3. Barrels with both ends cannot be picked up; land fills will not accept them.

4. All barrels, including barrels with trash in them, will be taken.

Any barrel or container too heavy for two men to pick up will not be taken.

5. Trash piles should be located within easy reach from the road, not 20 to 30 feet, for the convenience of the trash haulers.

6. All objects must be bagged or put in containers that will be picked up. No loose materials will be picked up.

7. Containers must be left at curbside and they will not be returned.

8. Old appliances will be picked up if they can be lifted by two men. No refrigerators, freezers or air conditioners unless refrigerants are removed by a professional and tagged.

Remember... Appliances can be recycled.

9. NO YARD WASTE! 10. NO BUILDING MATERIALS WILL BE PICKED UP 11. NO TIRES WILL BE PICKED UP 12. NO GARBAGE or container for food products will be picked up.

13. NO ROCKS, SAND, CONCRETE, RUBBLE OR DEAD ANIMALS will be picked up.

14. No motor oil or containers with liquids such as oil based and latex paint. Cans with dried paint are acceptable if lids are removed.

15. No call backs will be made if refuse is placed after the truck has serviced your house.

16. Complaints will be verified (field checked) by Township personnel and checked against driver’s log.

17. Any item not picked up because of the above reasons must be taken off the curbside and stored out of sight by noon of the day following each pick-up.

18. If your rubbish has not been picked up by Thursday 9:00 am, please call the Township Office, (269)694-9434.

Hope E. TROMAN

AGE 42 - PLAINWELL, MI Hope Emilia Troman, born December 6, 1977 in Plainwell, MI, passed away March 18, 2020. Hope was the youngest child and dearest daughter of the late Gordon Troman and Elizabeth (Esperanza Mata) Troman. She is survived by her four siblings Carmen (H. Steven) Reid, Tawse (Sue) Troman, Patrick Troman, and Theresa (Vincent) Wright. She is also survived by her grandfather Baudelio Mata and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Hartley and Erma Troman and Maria Luisa Mata. Hope graduated from Plainwell High School in 1996. She received her Bachelor and Master degrees from Virginia Commonwealth University.

She was a lifelong athlete. In her younger years she played soccer, basketball and swam. In high school and college she concentrated on soccer and played all four years at VCU. She went on to coach women’s soccer at Wagner College in Staten Island, NY. While in college she became interested in triathlons. She placed first in her age group in the Austrian Ironman qualifying her for the Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii, which she completed. Hope worked for Trader Joe’s for many years which allowed her to live in different parts of the country. During this time she made lifelong friends whom she cherished. She was an avid outdoors person who loved hiking and camping, but most of all she loved spending time at the family cottage on Rennie Lake near Traverse City.

Hope was a determined and dedicated person who fought cancer the way she lived her life, but even she was not able to defeat melanoma. Hope will be remembered for her sense of humor and wonderful laugh and will be lovingly missed by her family and friends. Hope’s deep faith allowed her to face cancer with courage and strength and sustained her to the end. Her extended family and friends as well as the St. Margaret’s Church family supported her with their love and prayers. The family wishes to thank Wings of Hope Hospice of Allegan for their wonderful care of Hope. Memorial Services will be announced at a later date. Memorials may be directed to St. Margaret’s Church, St. Vincent de Paul Ministries, or Wings of Hope Hospice of Allegan.

Bruce passed away at home in Kalamazoo. He was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan on July 17, 1948, the son of the late Bud and Jean (Geisler) Stockwell. Bruce is survived by two children, Nicole (Joseph) Blain and Eric (Wendy) Stockwell; four siblings, his twin brother, Barney and wife (Fran) Stockwell, Mark Stockwell, Nancy (Marv) Nap and Lori (Eric) Cleasby; three grandchildren, Nicholas, Kodie and Caden Blain; nieces, nephews and many friends. After graduating Plainwell High School, Bruce was drafted into the U.S. Army and served our country until his honorable discharge in 1970. Bruce was a hard worker with a strong work ethic retiring from the Kalamazoo County Road Commission. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying many trips to the family cabin in the Upper Peninsula and fishing trips to local lakes. His time in the service had a profound impact on him and he remained a proud veteran of our nation’s armed services. Bruce’s recent trip with his brother, Barney, to Washington, DC with the Talons Out Honor Flight for veterans was a memorable experience for him. He was an involved member of the VFW where he served and volunteered in many facets. He was also a member of the American Legion. He loved to make friends and ride motorcycles which led him to join the Red Arrow Riders and Eagles Motorcycle clubs. Bruce was a gifted mechanic and could fix most anything. He was passionate about helping others. He served as a volunteer fireman for many years and reached several milestones in blood donations with the Red Cross. Bruce had a quick wit and a sharp sense of humor; always finding ways to lighten the mood. He loved his friends/family and rarely missed a Thursday night dinner with his good friend, Kloey. His remains will be interred at Ft. Custer National Cemetery Friday, March 27th at 1:00 pm. Due to the coronavirus restrictions a Memorial Service and Celebration of his Life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions in Bruce’s honor may be made to the military organization of one’s choice, c/o the funeral home. “SECRET DISCIPLES”

There is no such thing as privacy any more. The only exception is God who knows us better than we know ourselves. He knows our thoughts before we think them and our words before we speak them (Psalm 139:1, 2, 4).

In the nineteenth chapter of John, there is the story of two secret disciples. One was Nicodemus. The other was Joseph of Arimathea. Both were respected members of the Sanhedrin (Jewish Supreme Council). Nicodemus came to Jesus by night for fear of the Jews who were building a case against Jesus (John 3:2). Joseph of Arimathea was a person of power and wealth.

After the death of Jesus, both were granted permission by Pilate to bury the body of our Lord (John 19:38-40). The Jewish custom was to wrap the bodies of the dead in linen clothes and place sweet spices between the folds of the linen.

Joseph provided the tomb. Nicodemus provided the burial clothes to wear within the tomb.

The question is how secret is our discipleship? Are we reluctant to share the good news with others or is it a natural part of our Christian nature?

We tend to converse with others on topics of interest such as family, work, sports, hobbies, books, etc. Why not faith? Some are reluctant to share their faith for fear of being labeled a religious fanatic. Others see faith as a private thing. If everyone believed that, the Christian religion would have died in the first century.

Sharing God’s love is at the very heart of Christianity. Ours is a “Go and tell” religion (Mark 16:7) not a “keep-it-to-yourself” religion. We are the “light of the world” (Matthew 5:14) and “Ambassadors for Christ” (2 Corinthians 5:20). The centuries have come and gone but the commission of Christ still stands. We are commanded to “Make disciples of all nations …” (Matthew 28:19).

There is an old legend which speaks to the seriousness of this command. The story is Jesus returned to heaven after His time on earth and the angels gathered to hear His account of what happened on earth. He spoke of His teachings, His arrest, trial, crucifixion and glorious resurrection. One of the angels asked, “What happens now?” Jesus answered “I have left a small group of dedicated men and women to witness to My life and carry on My work.” The angel asked, “What if they fail?” “Do you have an alternative plan?” Jesus replied, “I have no other plan. I am depending on them to continue My mission.”

It is our mission to be open and honest about our relationship with Jesus Christ.

Prayer: Dear Lord, we will pray with the psalmist, “Let the redeemed of the Lord say so” (Psalm 107:2).

It is with great sadness but also hope for the health and safety of our community that we share that Otsego District Library will be closed March 14 - April 5 to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19. We realize that this may present a hardship to some of our patrons and truly regret that we must close. This was not an easy decision by any means as the library wants to always be there for our community and service is the heart of our work.

In many ways, this has been heart-breaking, but also necessary for the greater good.

On Saturday, March 14, the Michigan Library Association commended all libraries that had made the hard decision to close and urged all others to follow suit: “The Michigan Library Association wants to commend the libraries and local officials who have made the very hard decision to close their doors to the public and at the same time, encourage others to take action. MLA is using our role as a leader and advocate of Michigan libraries to call on all public libraries in Michigan to close their doors until Sunday, April 5th. This is staying in line with Governor Whitmer's Executive Order 2020-5 to close all Michigan K-12 public schools from Monday, March 16 until Sunday, April 5. We are living

in an unprecedented time of uncertainty as we face this worldwide pandemic, and public libraries must do their part to minimize the spread of COVID-19 and protect our citizens from exposure. We believe that school closures put an increased burden on public libraries as children and families turn to us for social, educational and even childcare needs.

Increased dependence on our spaces and resources for children and families displaced by school closures will in all likelihood contribute to the continued spread of the coronavirus.”

As the situation evolved, on Monday, March 16, the Governor of Michigan’s Executive Order 2020-9 closed all libraries, restaurants, museums, and other places of public accommodation.

As of the time of this writing, the Library Board has rescheduled their regular March meeting to Tuesday, March 24 at 5:30 PM to continue to monitor this situation. The entire library will also be professionally sanitized during this period of closure. As you have seen this situation is fluid and rapidly evolving and things may change even from the time of writing this article. We are continuously monitoring this situation.

We’re all in this together and we love our community! We hope that you will stay safe and calm, take care, and practice the social distancing that these unprecedented disruptions have been put in place to accomplish.
