Things you will need to start a business

Many people dream of owning their own businesses, while some business owners find that necessity is the mother of invention when it comes to their careers. In a volatile economy, sometimes it’s best to create a job when finding one proves too difficult. The SBA advises that business plans should include company descriptions, market analyses (what you learned in your research), clear rundowns of organizational structures, details of what you will sell, marketing strategies, and information on funding the business to eventually realize a profit. Business plans will be needed to attract potential investors, including lenders. • Gather your financial resources. Funding is one of the most important elements when starting a business. Every business — large or small — has start-up costs. These include registering the business name, printing business cards and getting a website or phone line. Expect scores of business expenses, even if you are working out of your house at the beginning. If you cannot fund these startup costs on your own, you will need loans from financial

Dorothy passed away Monday, February 29, 2016 at Alamo Nursing Home. She was born July 10, 1947 in Martin, MI the daughter of Ernest and Leva (Camfield) Drake. Dorothy was a 1965 Otsego High School graduate and lifelong resident of the area. She had worked at the drive-in restaurant in Allegan, was manager at Fanny Farmer Candies in Kalamazoo, had owned and operated a small dairy farm for several years and had also worked at K-Mart and Wal-Mart in Otsego. Dorothy enjoyed drawing and sewing, and loved all animals especially dogs and horses. Surviving are her sisters, Beverly Ransler of Gobles, Marilyn (John) Hiscock and Martha (Harold) Lindsey both of Otsego along with several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, March 4, 2016 at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego with Pastor Greg Carlson officiating. Pauline G. POWERS AGE 80 – OTSEGO, MI

Pauline passed away Friday, February 19, 2016 in Florida. She was born January 30, 1936 in Allegan the daughter of Guy and Erma (Morris) Foote. Pauline was a lifelong resident of the area and for many years had worked at Parker Hannifin. In her spare time she enjoyed quilting, bowling on area leagues, playing cards especially mahjong, taking care of her many flower gardens, and spending time with her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. On October 7, 1955 at the Otsego Church of God she married Ronald Powers who survives. They spent 60 wonderful years together and after Pauline’s retirement they enjoyed spending the winters in Florida. Also surviving are their children, Ron (Patty) Powers, Rick (Cheryl) Powers, Robin (Greg) Smith and Rhonda (Joe) Lesman; 7 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; her siblings, Dale (Sharon) Foote and Geraldine “Jeri” Hartwell; sisters –in-law, Linda Noyes, Joyce Foote and Sharon Fitzpatrick; along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her mother and father-in-law; siblings, infant brother, Carl, Leroy Foote, Jack Foote and Betty (Jim) Lutes and brothers-in-law, Archie Fitzpatrick and Chuck Powers. According to her wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Friday, May 27, 2016 time will be updated as soon as it is determined. Consider examples of the latter: LOL (Laugh Out Loud); BFF (Best Friends Forever); CTO (Check This Out). A.S.A.P. There is nothing new here. I’ve been eating BLT sandwiches most of my life and Morse code has been around since l828. Shorthand (Stenography) is traced all the way back to the Mid-4th Century B.C. in Ancient Greece. When we wish to measure mental ability we call it I.Q. (Intelligence Quotient). Consider our V.Q. (Value Quotient). When our Lord was baptized, God set the tone for His earthly ministry by affirming Him with the words “This is my Son in whom I am well pleased” (Matthew 3:l7). Throughout His ministry on earth, Jesus affirmed persons who needed mercy (Mark 2:5); persons who needed encouragement (Matthew 14:27); persons needing acceptance (Matthew l9:14) and persons needing redemption (John 8:11). The ultimate demonstration of our value to God is that Jesus died on the cross for our sins (John 3:l6). Our value to God is beyond measure. A well-known leader in the greater Kalamazoo area came to me during his later years. He held a position of high honor and was respected by all. His visit was short and his request was simple: “Pray for me, I don’t feel important anymore.” I prayed with him and sent him on his way with words of encouragement. When feeling low in spirit, we should read our Bibles and remember we are… •God’s children (John l: 12). •His workmanship (Ephesians 2:l0). •His friends (John l5:15). •His vessels (2 Corinthians 4:7). •His ambassadors (2 Corinthians 5:20). •His coworkers (2 Corinthian 6:1). •His light (Matthew 5:14). •His heirs (Romans 8:17).
