William “Bill” FOX AGE 92 - OTSEGO, MI

Passed away Monday, April 5, 2021 at his home in Otsego. Bill was born June 2, 1928 in Albany, GA the son of Stewart Benjamin and Margarete Augusta (Lohrke) Fox. He had proudly served his country in the US Army. Bill graduated from Western Michigan College with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1956 and Western Michigan University with his Masters in 1957. He continued his post graduate studies at the University of Michigan, Michigan State University and University of Nebraska. Bill had taught at Otsego Public Schools from 1957-1958 then was an Associate Professor at Western Michigan University from 1959-1988. He was a member of Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Council 7796, was an Otsego City Commissioner, an Otsego District Library Board member and enjoyed historical re-enactments. On June 29, 1957 at Christ the Good Shepherd Church in Lincoln Park, Michigan he married Barbara Barrow who survives. Also surviving are his sons, Marc (Kimberlee) Fox of Holland and Brian Fox of Douglasville, GA; 5 grandchildren, Jenna, Amanda, David, Bridgette and Andrew Fox; and a great granddaughter, Ella Conover; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother and a sister. Friends may meet with Bill’s family Friday, April 9, 2021 from 10-11 A.M. at St. Margaret Catholic Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Fr. Simon Manjooran officiating. Due to covid-19 restrictions masks and social distancing is required. Burial will follow at St. Margaret Catholic Cemetery, Otsego with Military Honors by Otsego V.F.W. Post #3030. Contributions in memory of Bill may be made to St. Margaret Catholic Church. On Thursday, March 18th Donald Miller of Otsego passed away. Don was born July 31, 1938 in Portage, MI and was 82 years old. He was a selfemployed Plasterer for over 60 years and was well known in the trades for his talent, skill and work ethic. He loved the outdoors, caring for his home and property, hunting, fishing and cutting wood. He also enjoyed trips with his family to the Upper Peninsula and his farm in Boyne Falls. He is survived by his loving wife Dianne of 60 years, sons Donald Miller of Otsego and Dan Miller of Charlotte, NC, Grandson’s Vincent Miller of Chicago, IL and Matthew Miller of Otsego. Brothers Fred (Shirley) Miller of Alamo, MI, David Miller of Boyne Falls, MI and Buck (Denise) Miller of Gobles, MI, and sister Barbara Miller of Galesburg, MI. Don was preceded in death by sister Lenore (Norm) Leitz of Oshtemo, MI. There will be no memorial service held and cremation has taken place. Memorial donations may be made to the Wings of Hope Hospice of Allegan, MI.

“As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them;” Luke 24:15 It happened that on Easter afternoon, two of His followers walked on a road to Emmaus. Jesus had died and they were missing Him. As they walked along the road the living Christ appeared to them and walked with them. They did not recognize Him at first. By the end of the day they would experience great comfort and hope. Let’s take a closer look. IN TIMES OF STRUGGLE, JESUS COMES TO US.

The struggle on the road to Emmaus was with what the future held for them. They wondered whether the movement He had started would continue following His death. They spoke of hope in the past tense (Luke 24:21). The more they talked with their unrecognized Friend, the closer they felt to Him. As nighttime approached, they urged Him to stay with them a little longer. It was while Jesus broke bread with them in their home that they recognized Him. Jesus comes to us in the Sacrament of Holy Communion. It gave them great comfort and hope. Likewise, Jesus walks with us in our times of struggle, even though we may not recognize Him at first.

IN TIMES OF SUFFERING, JESUS COMES TO US.

It is clear from the Scriptures that Jesus came to us as the “Suffering Servant” (Isaiah 53:3-5) who died on the cross to save us from the penalty of our sins (Matthew 1:21). John R. W. Stott said, “I could never myself believe in God, if it were not for the cross…In the real world of pain, how could one worship a God who was immune to it?” It is reassuring to know that even during times of physical or emotional suffering, Jesus comes to us. IN TIMES OF SORROW, JESUS COMES TO US.

It has been said, “Grief shared is grief reduced.” This passage reinforces this universal truth. It is always helpful to talk it out. Another point is that Jesus opened the Scriptures to them (Luke 24:27). God speaks words of comfort to us through the Scriptures. In reflecting back, the two on the road said their hearts burned within them as He walked with them and talked with them (Luke 24:32). When we invite Jesus to walk with us we find comfort in sorrow and hope for tomorrow.

Prayer: Dear Lord, open our eyes to Your living presence. In Your strong name. Amen.

ADOPTABLE Pet of the Week! was treated to an excursion to the lake with one of the animal shelter’s volunteers. He rode great in the car and loved to stick his nose out the window and take in all the smells. Tucker was a good boy while he explored and played in the sand. The outing was wonderful to give him a nice long break from the shelter life. Tucker is super friendly and he will want you to always have as much fun as he does. He likes to run and play and enjoy the spring weather more than he is able to at the shelter. A foster or forever home that will give him plenty of exercise and let him decompress would be wonderful. At first impression Tucker will show you how much of a puppy he still is and how much he loves affection. A basic obedience class will help Tucker become the best doggie he can be, therefore as part of the adoption process, Tucker will need to be signed up for training. Handsome Tucker is just 1 year old and weighs 64 pounds. He will need to be the only pet in his forever home. It is recommend that any children in his forever home are teenagers.
