Suffering the misery of Neuropathy?
Finally, a Solution for Peripheral Neuropathy Pain Get Rid of the Pain in Your Hands or Feet
ADVANCES IN THERAPEUTIC TECHNOLOGY – GIVING NEW HOPE
Symptoms of Neuropathy: • Numbness • Burning pain • Leg cramping • Sharp electric-like pain • Pain when you walk • Difficulty sleeping from leg & foot discomfort • Prickling or tingling of the feet or hands
“If you suffer from pain due to peripheral neuropathy: tingling, numbness, burning, or you can’t even feel your feet, we invite you to call our office and schedule an appointment to learn more about the latest treatment available. An estimated 20 million Americans suffer from peripheral neuropathy, a condition caused by damage to the nerves. Whether it’s work, play, or time spent with the family, neuropathy pain ultimately lowers your quality of life by affecting everything that you do. We are here to tell you that there is hope. You can get rid of your pain and get your life back. At Albrecht Chiropractic and West Michigan Spinal Decompression, we offer advanced treatment programs and our goal is to help you have a better quality of life. We are so confident that we can help you, we are offering a no obligation consultation/evaluation. The only thing you have to lose is your pain.”
*Due to Federal law, some restrictions may apply.
Does Treatment for Neuropathy Pain Have to Involve Prescription Drugs?
ABSOLUTELY NOT!
Treating a problem by masking the symptoms has never been a viable long term solution. Previous treatment options for peripheral neuropathy have been a small handful of medications. This type of pain relief is temporary. Often these treatments lead to even more health problems, or worse yet—addiction. So many people innocently fall into abusing prescription pain pills while initially using them to alleviate the pain. Many patients have been frustrated by traditional care, only to find their symptoms getting worse. It is time to look into a solution to your pain that does not involve medication.
Peripheral Neuropathy Explained
Peripheral Neuropathy occurs when nerves in the extremities are damaged or destroyed. Like static on a telephone line, this interrupts the normal communication between the brain and the skin, muscles and other parts of the body. This condition predominantly affects the peripheral limbs (legs, feet, arms, and hands).
Diabetes is one potential cause of peripheral neuropathy, as uncontrolled sugar levels can damage your nerves. Some other causes of neuropathy may include: reduced blood flow, hereditary disorders, inflammation, vitamin deficiencies, and certain medications.

- Dr. Darl D. Albrecht - Dr. Seth Albrecht
There are many symptoms of peripheral neuropathy, which is essentially damage to the peripheral nerve system. Some neuropathy sufferers describe it as wearing an invisible sock, pins and needles, burning pain, or extreme electric-like sensitivity to touch. Others report the sensation of walking on broken glass or thumbtacks.
Neuropathy May Contribute to Emotional Stress and Depression.
Many people suffering with pain don’t realize that the symptoms could be due to peripheral neuropathy. It is a condition that can be misdiagnosed or ignored until it is unbearable. This can affect all aspects of your life and may even cause emotional stress or depression.
The Solution: Non-Surgical, Lasting Neuropathy Pain Treatment
At Albrecht Chiropractic and West Michigan Spinal Decompression we have developed a drug-free program utilizing multiple therapies to relieve your symptoms of peripheral neuropathy. The foundation of this highly successful treatment regimen is Light therapy called HealthLight. The HealthLight device consists of boot and calf pads that contain more than 250 red and infrared diodes. Light energy from the diodes increases circulation, speeds up cellular energy production, and draws water, oxygen and nutrients to the damaged area. Treatments are painless and gentle as the light is absorbed by the cells beneath the skin.
This creates an optimal environment that helps reduce pain, inflammation, burning, tingling and numbness, and actually improves the ability to feel sensations.
The Whole Program
In addition to the HealthLight, our program also incorporates several other modalities to improve nerve function, some of which include vibration therapy, balance training, and soft tissue mobilization. We also utilize nutritional support, when necessary, to help address vitamin deficiencies and improve circulation. With this multi faceted approach, we are able to customize the program to your individual needs and achieve the most effective results in relieving your symptoms of peripheral neuropathy.
NO OBLIGATION CONSULTATION / EVALUATION! SPACE LIMITED to the first 25 callers: (269) 694-9956
Call for an Appointment!
(269) 694-9956 Hours: Mon., Wed., Fri. 9am-12pm and 2pm-6pm, Tues. 7:30am-1pm, Thurs. & Sat. 10am-1pm
Not All Neuropathy Treatments Are Created Equal.
There are many types of neuropathy treatments available today. Do not confuse this treatment with a common TENS device that is designed to temporarily block nerve signals. In fact, it is just the opposite – it works to improve nerve function.
Are You a Candidate for our Peripheral Neuropathy Program?
Patients come to us with all types of peripheral neuropathy. The potential causes are many and sometimes there is no clear risk factor for neuropathy. Regardless, our first step is to evaluate your specific case to determine if it is a type of peripheral neuropathy we can help. If so, the prognosis is generally favorable and treatment time is predictable. Your neuropathy pain may be significantly reduced or possibly eliminated without serious side effects or potential dependency on medication in as little as six weeks.
No Obligation Visit
At Albrecht Chiropractic and West Michigan Spinal Decompression, we are committed to getting you well and putting your life back on track again. So that you can learn more about our facility and our technically advanced procedures, we are offering a no obligation consultation and evaluation. Call today to schedule an appointment to see if you are a candidate for this procedure. We look forward to meeting you! - Dr. Darl D. Albrecht - Dr. Seth Albrecht.
NEUROPATHY FACTS
• More than 100 types of peripheral neuropathy have been identified, each with its own symptoms and prognosis. • Peripheral neuropathy may be either inherited or acquired through disease processes or trauma. In many cases, however, a specific cause cannot be identified.
• Peripheral nerves have the ability to regenerate axons, as long as the nerve cell itself has not died. Source: National Institutes of Health (NIH)

SPRING HOME IMPROVEMENT I 2021
Exploring Different Backyard Structures Designing an ideal backyard space requires forethought and an eye for style. Knowing which features to include in a yard often boils down to what homeowners want to achieve in the space. Will it be a relaxing oasis or a central entertaining focal point? People often look to various structures to add height and visual interest to outdoor spaces. Homeowners will likely come across structures like arbors, gazebos, pergolas, and even trellises as they wade through the variety of features they can incorporate into backyard plans. Each of these structures can add appeal, but they also can offer shelter from the sun and privacy when enjoying the yard. There are significant differences between each structure, so here’s an in-
depth look at what sets them apart. • Arbor: An arbor is one of the more simple garden structures. It is usually a frame that is arched or square-cornered. Most homeowners use it as an entryway to a garden or even the front of the home. Those with green thumbs may cover the arbor with climbing and trailing plants. The Spruce says arbors date back to early Egyptian and Roman gardens and were used throughout Europe by the late 16th century. • Pergola: The words arbor and pergola are often used interchangeably, but to suggest the two structures are the same would not be accurate. Pergola comes from the Italian
word “pergula,” which means “projection.” Pergolas were once projected from exterior walls and supported on one side by pillars or columns. Today, arbors are usually freestanding units with two or four posts. Pergolas may be connected on one side to a home or another structure. Some are freestanding units supported by four posts. Pergolas tend to be larger and offer more privacy and shade than arbors.
and may have low railings or built-in benches. Gazebos also may have a more solid roof than arbors or pergolas, providing sun and other weather protection. The roof may have added architectural appeal, like a cupola. • Trellis: A trellis is a simple, geometricallyshaped structure that provides a surface for climbing plants. A trellis also may support fruit-bearing trees. Trellis work may be used in conjunction with an arbor or pergola, or be installed on fencing.
• Gazebo: Gazebos are more defined garden buildings, states the contractor referral site Network. Gazebos are freestanding units that can be built in various shapes. Some are octagonal, others are square. Like a pergola, a gazebo is supported by columns
Incorporating structures into backyard designs can provide functionality and appeal. SH212659

How to Add Shade to a Deck or Patio Homeowners eagerly await the arrival of the warm weather so they can cast off the remnants of cabin fever and bask in the sunshine. However, as summer nears its dog days, the same sun homeowners once coveted can contribute to uncomfortable conditions in outdoor entertaining spaces. Meteorologists at WHAS11 in Kentucky took to their neighborhoods in July 2020 to test just how hot surfaces can get in the sun during peak daytime temperatures. Concrete sitting in the sun almost all day reached a temperature of 134.7 F, while the same concrete in the shade clocked in at just under 80 F. When air temperatures are around 90 F, unshaded concrete and asphalt can be 125 F and 140 F, respectively. While wood decking may not be as hot as asphalt and concrete, it still can get steamy underfoot. Homeowners who want to be able to enjoy their outdoor spaces in an
array of temperatures can think about investing in shade solutions. Sun-blocking ideas like awnings, shade trees and large umbrellas can help people enjoy their yards all day long. • Canopy: A patio canopy is typically a freestanding unit that can be installed over a patio or a deck. Some people prefer to bolt it down so it will not be knocked over in windy conditions. The fabric on the canopy can be removed during the offseason, helping to improve its longevity. • Awning: Awnings may be stationary or retractable. Many are installed directly onto a home and can cast shade on specific areas of outdoor entertaining spaces. • Shade sail: Similar to an awning but a bit less structurally rigid, shade sails are large pieces of triangular fabric installed over areas of a patio, pool or landscape, according to The Family Handyman. Shade sails are light

and airy and can be customized. • Trees: A natural way to increase shade in a yard is to plant more shade trees. If sun glare is an issue all year long, and it’s not just the heat of the sun that is troublesome, think about planting trees. Deciduous evergreen cousins will drop their leaves in fall and only be effective during the warm weather. • Patio umbrellas: Many umbrellas start at around $25. Umbrellas can be paired with patio tables, while stationary cantilever umbrellas sit

Should I DIY?: 3 questions to determine if it’s best to renovate on your own A do-it-yourself mentality has taken hold in millions of households across the globe. Popular television channels like HGTV and DIY Network as well as accessible home improvement content on apps like YouTube has inspired many homeowners to tackle renovation projects around their homes. Taking such initiative is admirable, though it also can prove costly if homeowners end up biting off more than they can chew. Home improvement videos and television shows have a tendency to renovation projects, oversimplify potentially giving homeowners a false sense of confidence in their DIY abilities. A concerted effort on the part of homeowners to determine if it’s best to renovate on their own or hire a professional should always be the first step of any renovation project. No two homeowners are the same, but the following three questions can help homeowners determine if DIY is their best option. 1. Can I afford to DIY? Professional home improvement projects are costly for a variety of reasons. Materials can be costly, but so are the tools and labor necessary to do the job right. Homeowners may not
have the tools necessary to complete complicated projects. Specialty tools can be expensive to purchase or even rent, and the cost of acquiring such tools should be included in any DIY project cost estimates. Labor also factors heavily into professional projects, and for good reason. Talented contractors have unique skills that have been developed and perfected over many years. Those skills can ensure projects are completed quickly and correctly. Labor may seem costly, but such costs may ultimately prove to be a bargain compared to the cost of fixing DIY mistakes. Projects that are minor in scope and don’t require the use of potentially costly specialty tools may be better suited for weekend warriors than more complicated renovations.
3. Can I pull this off? DIY projects can instill homeowners with a sense of pride in their homes, but it’s imperative that homeowners considering the DIY option conduct an honest assessment of their skills. A lack of renovation experience does not necessarily mean a homeowner cannot successfully complete a DIY project. But in such instances, it may be best to start with small, straightforward projects and then gradually move up to bigger, more complicated projects as skills are fine tuned. And homeowners who have never been at their best with a hammer in hand should not be ashamed to leave the work to the professionals.
Television shows and online tutorials can make renovations appear easier than they actually are. Homeowners considering DIY renovations can ask 2. Do I have the time? themselves a handful of questions to Homeowners must determine how determine if they’re ready for the much time they have to complete a challenge of renovating their homes on project before deciding to do it their own. SH212662 themselves. No one wants to spend months staring at an unfinished renovation project. Homeowners who are already pressed for time may not be able to complete projects in a timely fashion, which can make homes less comfortable and even less safe.

4 Ways to Uplift Small Businesses in Your Community (StatePoint) With nearly half of all Americans employed by a small business, these establishments need our support more than ever. According to the latest Wells Fargo/Gallup Small Business Index, 46 percent of business owners surveyed have seen a drop in revenue over the past 12 months, with some entrepreneurs seeing even more severe impact. “Small businesses are at the heart of our communities and the key to millions of jobs,” says Steve Troutner, head of Small Business, Wells Fargo. “Keeping spending dollars in local communities is an impactful way to rally around small business owners.” Wells Fargo is sharing four ways to uplift small businesses near you: 1. Shop local. While one-stop shopping on leading e-commerce sites can be tempting, the simple act of purchasing something from your favorite local retailer can go a long way in keeping business afloat and money in your community. Returning or exchanging gifts? Ask for store credit instead of cash. It helps keep money with a small business and makes their cash flow more stable.
Many shops have safety measures in place, such as limiting occupancy or offering contactless pick-up. 2. Eat local. Support your neighbors by dining at locally-owned establishments. Getting takeout or having food delivered? Order directly from the restaurant rather than through third-party sites that take a cut. When it comes to food shopping, opt for neighborhood grocers, which often carry produce from small familyowned farms and other locallysourced goods. Many offer the same curbside pickup and delivery options as major chains. 3. Uplift diverse-owned businesses. Keep in mind that minority- and women-owned businesses have been hard hit by COVID-19. Many are counting on your patronage to survive.
To help entrepreneurs stay open and support local jobs, Wells Fargo is approximately $400 deploying million from its Open for Business Fund to nonprofits serving small businesses. The initiative focuses on increasing access to training and flexible capital that businesses can use for rent, utilities, payroll and other business needs. If you are a business owner looking for assistance and resources, visit wellsfargo.com/shoplocal to learn more. 4. Shine a light on your favorite business. Whether it’s expanding outdoor patios and installing heat lamps or updating tech to facilitate contactless checkout, small businesses have had to get creative to stay relevant. One simple way of supporting businesses as they make these changes is to follow them on
social media and give positive reviews on websites like Yelp. As part of its “Many hearts. One community” campaign, Wells Fargo is highlighting the determination, resilience and creativity that so many small business have shown this past year. “Community has meant everything to me,” says Kadijatu Ahene, owner of Touch Designs, which Dija’s benefitted from Wells Fargo and Local Initiatives Support Corporation working together. “The challenges we’re dealing with have brought us closer. Whether its friends and neighbors checking on me and my girls, delivering food and more, COVID has reminded us that we need each other to move forward in unity.”

RENOVATION TRENDS
Figured to be Popular in the Year Ahead Home renovation trends are everchanging. Renovations that might have been de rigueur 20 years ago may seem dated now. Recognizing the potentially popular trends of tomorrow is a great way for homeowners to give their homes a fresh new look and put themselves in position to capitalize on popular trends when they put their homes on the market. That’s especially so after 2020, a year when millions of people spent more time at home than ever before. All that time working from home and relaxing at home gave millions of homeowners ideas about what they like about their homes and what they hope to change. The following are some renovation trends that various experts suspect could emerge in 2021. • Eco-friendly living: Climate change, and how to combat it, was a hot button issue during the 2020 presidential election in the United States. So it should come as no surprise that urdesignmag.com, a web magazine that showcases creative trends in design, architecture, art, technology, and fashion, predicts that eco-friendly living solutions figure to be hot commodities in 2021. Eco-friendly appliances, furniture and designs can help to conserve energy and reduce waste, which environmentalists and government agencies like the
Environmental Protection Agency note are two critical components in the fight against climate change. • Large windows: Large windows can provide stunning views of the outdoors and allow ample natural light into a home. It may not be a coincidence if large windows prove to be a hot trend in 2021. The COVID-19 pandemic that dominated much of 2020 forced many people to spend considerably more time at home. Darker homes without much natural light can adversely affect mood, especially when people are spending more time at home. HGTV predicts that homeowners will seek ways to bring more natural light into their homes in 2021, and large windows naturally brighten homes while making rooms appear bigger, helping people feel less cramped. That’s an especially beneficial characteristic when spending more time indoors at home. • Minimalism: The anticipated popularity of minimalism in 2021 may also be connected to the pandemic. As professionals were forced to work from home and many families spent more time together inside their homes then ever before, they may have recognized a need to cut back on clutter, including extra furniture. A minimalist approach is both simple and clean, which can
make homes feel less claustrophobic. • Multi-functional spaces: Homeowners asked a lot of their homes in 2020, as rooms were transformed into multifunctional spaces seemingly overnight. HGTV notes that spending more time
at home showed homeowners that it may not make sense to dedicate entire rooms of a home to a single purpose. Renovations that can help homeowners transform rooms into multi-functional spaces figure to be hot commodities in the years ahead.

Spring Planting How to Prepare a Garden for
The final weeks of winter, and even the first few weeks of spring, are still chilly in many parts of the world. Despite those last vestiges of winter chills, late winter is a great time to begin preparing gardens for the coming planting season.
Gardens may have to withstand months of harsh weather each winter, and such conditions can take a toll. Gardeners can consider the following tips as they try to restore their gardens and get them ready for spring planting. • Disinfect your tools. It’s common to clean tools in late fall or whenever they’re typically placed in storage for the winter. But cleaning and disinfecting are not necessarily the same thing. If tools were not disinfected at the end of the previous gardening season, disinfect them before doing any work on the garden. Doing so can ensure any lingering bacteria or fungi on tool surfaces are killed prior to the beginning of gardening season. According to the University of Minnesota Extension, plant pathogens, including bacteria and viruses, can be transferred to and
infect plants through bits of soil and plant debris left on shovels and pruner blades. Thoroughly disinfecting such tools prior to using them in the spring is a great way to reduce the risk of disease in your garden.
• Clear debris from garden beds. Leaves, twigs, sticks, and other debris may have gathered in the garden over the winter. Such debris can inhibit the growth of plants and vegetables, so make sure all of it is removed prior to planting. Weeds might even begin to sprout up in late winter and early spring, so remove them before they go to seed. • Test the soil. Testing the soil prior to can help gardeners planting determine what their gardens will need to thrive in the coming months. Garden centers and home improvement stores sell home testing kits that are effective and easy to use. Once the results are in, speak with a professional at your local garden center about the best time to amend the soil. • Loosen compacted soil. Soil can become compacted over winter. If
compacted soil is not loosened prior to planting, plants will have a hard time getting the water and nutrients they need to thrive. Loosening the soil also provides another opportunity to inspect the garden for any underlying issues, such as fungi or weed growth, that you may have missed when
clearing debris or testing the soil. Late winter is a good time to assess a garden and address any issues that developed over the winter so plants and vegetables can thrive come the spring planting season. SH212728

BRUNO...
Check out this gorgeous guy, Bruno. Bruno was surrendered to the Allegan County Animal Shelter due to the failing health of his previous owner. He is a good, sweet boy and wants to get back into a loving home ASAP. Bruno is well mannered, a tiny bit shy when meeting new people, he is playful, silly, smart and loving - really what else could you want? If you want a sharp looking dog .....well he certainly fits that bill too!! Bruno is a smart pup. He was taught to sit down and shake hands/paws, and would gladly work on more tricks in exchange for yummy treats. He would love a forever home with a fun loving family that is looking to welcome a deserving furry family member to their pack. Bruno came from a home where someone was with him most of the day, so he would do best in a similar situation. It’s recommended that any children in his forever home are around 12 years old or older. Bruno will need a cat free home, but he does get along with other dogs. If your home already has a dog a meet and greet will be set up at the shelter to make sure the dogs are a good match. Bruno is 3 years old, he weighs approximately 57 pounds. If you would like to meet and maybe adopt handsome Bruno, please fill out an online adoption application at https://wishbonepetrescue.org. OTSEGO - As restrictions began to lift at the start of the new year, our high school purple community committee jumped into action to make sure this school year didn’t end without a fundraiser focused on cancer research. Like many other events, it’s simply been reimagined. The pandemic didn’t pause cancer or the need for research and treatment, so these students wanted to do whatever they could. “It was something everyone could relate to and had a personal story or fight against,” says junior Ali Janke of her classmates on the committee.

“LIVING ON THE SUNNY SIDE OF THE STREET”
By Rev. Dan Minor
-
revdminor1945@gmail.com _____________________________________
“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!” - Philippians 4:4
We usually mute the T.V. ads but there is one which really draws our attention. We never get tired of watching it. I am referring to a Kohl’s TV commercial which features a young girl sitting on the front steps of her home with a smile on her face. She has made a chalk art hopscotch course on the sidewalk in front of her house.
She watches gleefully as people walk by to play the game ending with a mail delivery person who does it perfectly. The expression on her face is priceless. This is all done to the background music of Jon Batiste’s song, “Sunny Side of the Street.” The point: Happiness is a choice.
Apostle Paul knew the meaning of suffering and persecution. Yet he could rejoice in the Lord because he knew that hardship and heartache are temporary while God is eternal. In another passage he writes, “I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances” (Philippians 4:11 NIV).
I am inspired by the words of Helen Steiner Rice (1901-1981) “Look on the Sunny Side” which reads in part: “There are always two sides, the GOOD and the BAD The DARK and the LIGHT, the SAD and the GLAD But in looking back over the GOOD and the BAD We’re aware of the number of GOOD THINGS we’ve had And in counting our blessings, we find when we’re through We’ve no reason at all to complain or be blue So thank God for GOOD things He has already done; And be grateful to Him for the battles you’ve won, And know the same God who helped you before Is ready and willing to help you once more …”
Question: What side of the street do you live on?
Prayer: Dear Lord, help us to be grateful and glad for the blessings we’ve had. In Your strong name. Amen.
