Jesus and His disciples had come from Bethany, a shor t distance away As he made His way, r iding on a donkey, through the crowded city people waved palm branches and shouted “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!” (Matthew 21:9)
The crowd was a mix of people who had gathered for var ious reasons There were cur iosity seekers who had heard of the Miracle Wor ker from Galilee who had recently raised Lazar us from the dead There was a great multitude of people who loved Jesus and saw Him as their hero and fr iend The crowd also included the pr iestly establishment (Phar isees) who waited for an oppor tunity to kill
Him
Let’s back up a little bit Just before enter ing the city a cur ious thing happened Luke, the gospel wr iter, noted “As he drew near, he saw the city and wept over it” (Luke 19:41)
Why the tears? The sad fact is that many of the Jewish pilgr ims saw Him as their tr iumphant king and last best hope for deliverance from Roman dominance This was based on the prophecy of Zechar iah as follows: “ See, your king comes to you, r ighteous and having salvation, gently and r iding on a donkey ” (Zechar iah 9:9 10)
Jesus wept for their misunderstanding of Who He was! Jesus came not as a conquer ing militar y hero, but as a humble ser vant sent in love and peace to save the lost
In ancient times, when kings retur ned from war they rode on a horse When they came in peace, they rode upon a donkey Thus, Jesus came in peace Jesus wept because they had missed the day of His visitation (Luke 19:44)
Jesus weeps today for lost souls He weeps for violence in our cities, racial attacks, abusive behaviors, war and famine, natural disasters, division in our gover nment and in our churches
Jesus comes to us today! The only question is whether or not we have eyes to see Him!

Jewelers and retired from Shifrin Jewelers in Portage Mary enjoyed being outdoors, working in her flower gardens, spending time at Rupert Lake, swimming and fishing She was an excellent hunter and took the largest boar in Tennessee in 37 years Mary loved holidays especially Christmas She never passed up a garage sale and liked antiquing Surviving are her children, Gerold (Dena) Waldon of Otsego, Thomas (Gina Franzone-Brown) Waldon of Texas and Nicole Waldon (William) Wagner of Oshtemo; 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; brother, Robert (Dee) Wiersma of Kalamazoo along with 6 nieces and nephews She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Myron “Mike”

On March 22, 2023, Dorothy (Standley) Carnell quietly slipped away in accordance with God’s plan She was born April 10, 1923 at home in Augusta, MI She was the beloved wife of Ray F Carnell, whom she wed on March 1, 1946 She was preceded in death by her parents Seth and Lenna (Brooks) Standley her husband Ray sisters Blanche (Standley) Rice, Verna (Standley) Chittick and brothers Arthur Standley and little Master Albert Standley Surviving is her brother Robert Standley of Augusta, MI Also surviving are her daughters, Janie Ashford, Sue Shannon, and Patty (Chris) Decker, and grandchildren Lance and Sarah McCray, and great grandchildren: Emma, Leah, Elliott, Benjamin and Caroline, the lights of her life After 45 years of teaching, mostly in the Gull Lake School system, grade school and summer school, and Sunday School at Day Bible Church, she retired to spend time with family and life-long friends She pursued her passion of photo taking, filling a multitude of photo albums, bird watching – joining in the yearly back-yard bird count and flower gardening –competing in the Kalamazoo County Fair with her flower arrangements Other quality time was spent at family reunions, pedro card parties and welcoming school and neighbor children to her home for trick or treat and fun costumes In later years, Dorothy spent time watching her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren at sporting events Family and friends were the most important part of her life She will be thought of fondly by many who came in contact with her winning smile and kind soul and will be missed dearly Visitation will be Sunday, April 2, 2023 from 1:00 p m to 5:00 p m at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Augusta Chapel, where funeral services to celebrate Dorothy’s life will be 10:00 a m , Monday, April 3 A private interment will be at Augusta Cemetery In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Day Bible Church, 8502 N 46th St , Augusta, MI 49012 or the Kellogg Bird Sanctuary, 12685 E C Ave, Augusta, MI 49012 or Elara Caring Hospice, 4664 Campus Dr Suite 101A-B, Kalamazoo, MI 49008

Thomas A. SOMERS AGE 78 - ALLEGAN, MI
Thomas A Somers of Allegan, formerly of Plainwell, passed away after a short battle with cancer, on Monday, March 27, 2023 at the age of 78 Tom was born on October 27, 1944 in Poplar Bluff, MO He was the son of Arthur and Priscilla (Handy) Somers Later his family moved to Plainwell, MI where Tom grew up and graduated from Plainwell High School with the Class of 1962 Tom proudly served his country in the United States Army Reserves On December 14, 2002 he married Deborah Bushee Tom had many jobs throughout his life, including being a DJ for WKMI, delivering beer for Imperial Beverage Co , owning a bar in Plainwell (Somers Place which is now 10th Street), working for Rapid River Rustic Log Homes and becoming a flight attendant for Southwest Airlines Tom also owned several horses and liked to enter them in harness races a few of them even won!! Along with horses, Tom owned several boats and loved being on the Big Lake He also went on a few sailing trips with his buddies He owned property in the UP and loved going up there; he especially liked Mackinac Island Tom loved meeting and talking to people and made friends no matter where he was He was known for his sense of humor and love for telling stories Tom had so many interests in life, it's hard to capture them all in just a few short paragraphs He will be dearly missed by many! Tom is survived by his wife of 20 years, Deb; two daughters: Jennifer (Mike) Bryson, of WI; Stephanie Somers-Gresh, of IL; his granddaughter who was very special to him: Luca Gresh; two siblings: Tim (Marcy) Somers of Lawton; and Sue (Dan) Cropsey of White Pigeon He also leaves behind his stepchildren: Jen (Tyler) Nelsen, of Bloomingdale; Sarah (Todd) Wade, of Kalamazoo; Lisa (Dominic) Adams, of Allegan; and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews who will all remember him with love A Celebration of Life open house will be held on Saturday, April 8th from 4pm to 7pm at the Otsego VFW Post 3030, 124 N Farmer St , Otsego In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the St Jude Children’s Hospital

She enjoys going for walks and random ly switches to crawling She was ver y scared when she first arrived at the shelter, but she is opening up and trusting the shelter staff more This sweetie pie would love to join a home with a confident dog fr iend If there is already a dog in the home, a meet and greet will be scheduled to make sure they’re a good fit Because of Gaia’s initial fear, it is recommended any children in the home be respectful kids 12 and up, but she could do younger with the r ight kids and as she gains confidence

God’s Spir it calls us when we hear or read the Word of God It draws our hear ts and minds upward to respond to heavenly things This good news gives us eter nal secur ity and comfor t in our lives As we encounter Chr ist in a spir itual way it sur passes human understanding When we submit to God’s love and author ity we unnaturally (our nature is against God) confess with our hear ts that Chr ist is Lord He is the only one who makes us one with God This action restores our relationship with our God, and results in loving our neighbor (which is unnatural) as we love ourselves As we engage other people in our daily lives, we begin to see them as people created in God’s image When we humble ourselves before God, we naturally treat others as God has loved us, which gives us hear ts of tender ness and compassion
