Harold G Rantz, passed away on April 13, 2024, at Thornapple Manor in Hastings He was born on April 4, 1931, in Martin Township, the son of Donald and LaVerne (Allen) Rantz Harold dedicated over 40 years of his life to working at various construction companies through Operating Engineers Local 324 as a heavy equipment operator Additionally, he owned and operated an excavating company for over a decade His expertise extended to businesses such as Plainwell Paper and Fulton Transmission A skilled truck driver, Harold was known for hauling milk as well Described as someone who could strike up a conversation with anyone, Harold's warm personality endeared him to many He found joy in visiting with people and making meaningful connections Beyond his professional life, Harold enjoyed a variety of hobbies and interests He was an active member of the Hastings Moose Lodge, Otsego United Methodist Church, Barry County Steam and Gas Engine Club, South Haven Flywheelers, and several tractor clubs Harold took pleasure in activities such as making apple dumplings at the church, gardening, tending to his lawn, participating in tractor pulls, as well as camping and fishing On August 27, 1951, he married Janet Johncock who passed away in 2022 He is survived by his children: Ron (Melodye) Rantz of Jenison; Don (Tina) Rantz of Martin; Dar (Knick Knickerbocker) Rantz of Shelbyville; Dean Rantz of Shelbyville; Kelly Rantz of Shelbyville and Margie Day of Hamilton Harold also leaves behind 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 13 greatgreat-grandchildren He is also survived by his sister-in-law Gail Rantz and several nieces and nephews Harold is preceded in death by his parents, wife, great-grandson Gunner, son-in-law Brian Gordon and siblings Evelyn, Janet, Donna, Bill, and David Friends may visit with Harold's family starting at 10:00 A M , Friday, April 19, 2024, at the Otsego United Methodist Church, until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 A M , with Pastor Jeremy Africa officiating Cremation will follow Contributions in memory of Harold may be made to the Otsego United Methodist Church

In the first place, Jesus is the source of life Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6) In 1 John 5:12 we read, “Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life ”
WE HAVE A SIN PROBLEM (ROMANS 3:23)
The word sin is mostly absent from our language today The word sin has been largely replaced by words and phrases such as “My problem” “My mistake” and “My bad ” The original language of the New Testament (Greek) defines sin as “missing the mark ” We do not have to look far to see how our world has missed the mark by falling shor t of the glor y of God
GOOD NEWS
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23) The good news is that Jesus paid the penalty for our sins (eternal separation from God) to not only give us eternal life in Heaven, but to give us a life of meaning and pur pose on ear th (John 10:10)
BELIEF IS NECESSARY
In John’s account of the gospel, the word believe is mentioned more than one hundred times “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16)

“In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus” (Romans 6:11)
In other words, to be alive in God through Jesus Christ is to be truly alive! Why would we want it any other way?

What is your knee-jerk reaction to coworkers, family members, friends, classmates, neighbors, and enemies who attack your character without cause?
