“THE TEARS OF JESUS”

We think of human tears as an important coping mechanism in our lives. There are different kinds of tears including tears of sadness, tears of gladness, tears of guilt, tears of anger and tears of remorse.

In the passage above Jesus is about to enter Jerusalem on what we call Palm Sunday. The crowds of people were wild with excitement. Some were curious. Some were hoping to see Him perform miracles. There was a strong expectation that “The Son of David” (A politically loaded title) would be their Messiah King who would deliver them from Roman control (Zechariah 9:9; Matthew 21:19). It fueled the flame of the opposition who were determined to destroy Him.

As Jesus was making His way down the Mount of Olives, something unusual happened. He paused, looked over the city and wept. A Roman Catholic Church, built on that site in l891, now stands on that holy site and is called Church of Dominus Flevit (Latin for the words, “The Lord wept.”). It is formed in the shape of a tear.

Jesus saw something no one else could see … the future destruction of the city He loved so much (Luke 19:43-44). This occurred in 70 A.D. (Forty years after His prophetic words). The tears of Jesus were the tears of remorse.

Now, as then, Jesus weeps for us.

JESUS WEEPS FOR THOSE WHO MISS THE MOMENT. In looking back, one wonders how they could have missed their opportunity for salvation. How does that happen? Answer: Spiritual blindness (Luke 19:42). We can be blinded by pride, prejudice, indifference, unbelief, selfishness and many other things. JESUS WEEPS FOR THOSE WHO MISS THE MESSAGE. Jesus made clear the message of salvation (Luke 19:10). Do we understand that Jesus came to save us all? Do we understand the sacrifice He made for us to make salvation possible? JESUS WEEPS FOR THOSE WHO MISS THE MESSENGER. Jesus is more than a message. In Jesus, the message and messenger are one. Christianity is more than a set of beliefs. It is a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Does Jesus weep through your eyes?

Austin W. PICKWORTHVANDENTOOREN AGE 26 - SCOTTSDALE, AZ

Austin passed away March 18, 2022 in Scottsdale, Arizona. He was born May 14, 1995, in Albion, Michigan, the son of Kenneth Pickworth and Henrietta Letts. He was adopted by John and Andrea Vandentooren. Austin enjoyed being outdoors, hunting and fishing. He was a dedicated athlete and MMA fighter. Most of all Austin loved being a dad. Surviving are his parents; son, Austin K. Pickworth of Arizona; sisters, Nicole LaLane Naumann of Otsego and Tiffany Crosby of Saranac; 7 nieces and nephews and grandparents, John and Betty Letts and Henrietta Letts. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jerry and Lorraine Earls; aunts, Tina Pickworth and Jerri-Jo; uncle, Bobbi; cousins, Haley Moull and Felicia Mixx and best friend, Gary Drobny. Friends may meet with Austin’s family starting at 10 A.M. until the time of service at 11 A.M. Saturday, April 2, 2022 at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego with Pastor Dave Ives officiating. Pat went to be with her Lord, Saturday, March 26, 2022, surrounded by her family at Vicinia Gardens in Otsego. She was born November 21, 1930 in St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of Ora and Mary Geneva (Spencer) Welker. For 36 years Pat worked at Parker Hannifin until her retirement in 1993. She served on the Otsego City Commission for 3 years and Otsego United Way for 5 years. Pat was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Otsego. In her free time Pat enjoyed golfing, gardening and traveling. She was a long time member of the First Congregational Church quilters and made many quilts for the homeless. Most of all Pat loved attending her grandchildren’s events and traveling and spending time with her friends the “Golden Girls”. On August 16, 1947 she married Everett Dutton who passed away in 1989. Surviving are her children, Kathy (Larry) Meert of Cooper, David (Jackie) Dutton of Otsego and Tom Dutton of Otsego; grandchildren, Todd (Courtney) Meert, Scott (Amy) Meert, Shelley (Rob) Harrington, Chad (Nicki) Dutton, Jammie (Matt) Dunklee, Chip (Tina) Austin and Guy (Tricia) Austin; 14 great-grandchildren and 6 great-greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father and step-mother, Ora and Florence Welker; mother and step-father, Mary Geneva and George Stricklin; husband and daughter-in-law, Connie Dutton. Funeral services were held March 30, 2022, at the First Congregational Church of Otsego. Pastor Todd Meert officiated. Burial will follow at Mountain Home Cemetery in Otsego. Watch out for those dogs, those people who do evil, those mutilators who say you must be circumcised to be saved. Philippians 3:1-2 REFLECTION: In this week’s devotion written by St. Paul, the author brings to light how religious people stifle others from having faith in Jesus Christ. In other words, people live by works and performance. These people believe there is a set of rules to follow to get right with God. St. Paul speaks clearly when he says to the Philippians that those mutilators who say you must be circumcised to be saved are wrong. Since Jesus Christ’s life, death and resurrection we are saved only by “justification by faith” alone. PRAYER TIME: Lord God, I thank you for being a God who comes to us as the people you created in your image. I pray Lord God that you help open my mind to the wonder of your grace which is offered to us by your Son Jesus. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.

MAZE

Bigger dog = more to LOVE. ...is a good size gal weighing in at 77 pounds, but this girl can get her booty moving when she gets the zoomies - so cute! She also LOVES treats and can jump up to catch them. Maze has good manners and has been taught to sit and shake hands. Maze is very sweet and would love to join a home with children to love and spoil her. It is recommended that any children in her forever home are dog savvy, and 8 years old or older. Even though Maze will need to be the only pet in the home, she will be sure to provide her family with plenty of doggy love! Maze was recently surrendered through no fault of her own. Let's get this sweetheart back into a home with a nice comfy bed for her to lay her sweet head on at night. BTW - Maze is 2 years old and will be celebrating her birthday at the end of April.
