Cyndi has served on the Otsego City Commission since 2010 and is the first Woman Mayor of the City. She has been a long time member of Otsego UMC and a longtime resident of Otsego. She and her husband, Gary raised three wonderful boys, Derek, Anthony, and Ethan. For many years, Cyndi led the Youth Ministry here at Otsego UMC and laid the foundation for the quality Youth Ministry it continues to be. She has been a lay speaker at Otsego UMC for many years and works for Amerifirst Home Mortgage. Cyndi earned her MBA from Davenport University in May of 2016.

Nada I. KESSLER AGE 71 – OTSEGO, MI

Nada passed away Thursday, May 11, 2017 at her home in Otsego. She was born January 28, 1946 in Elwood, Indiana, the daughter of Vern and Betty (Davis) Osting. Nada was born and raised in Indiana and had also lived in the U.P. and moved to Otsego in 1990. For 13 years she had been a bookkeeper at Toyota of Marquette and worked 17 years at Harold Ziegler until her retirement. Nada enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and her dog. On November 27, 1976 in Hessville, IN she married Kenneth Kessler who survives. Also surviving are her son, Scott (Christine) Doelling of Hilliard, OH and step-daughter, Kristine of FL; 2 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, stepdaughter, Kimberly Wilson and by an infant sister. Friends may visit with Nada’s family from 5-7 P.M., Sunday, May 14, 2017 at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego where a funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, May 15, 2017 with Pastor Barry Lucas officiating. Marilynn passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at Life Care Center in Plainwell. She was born December 23, 1933 in Grand Rapids the daughter of Charles and Jeanette (Henry) Lacey. For over 15 years she had worked at Kal-Equip until her retirement in 1987. In her spare time Marilynn enjoyed crocheting, doing word puzzles, watching horse racing, bird watching, and spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her dog, Maggie. On December 7, 1951 she married Raymond Brown who passed away in 2013. Surviving are her children, Ray (Char) Brown of Otsego, Len (Terri) Brown of Adrian, Edward (Penny) Brown of Otsego, Cindy (Dennis) Burnham of Kalamazoo, Wendy Evans of Gobles and Robert (Stephanie) Brown of Otsego; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ray; son-in-law, Mike Evans and sisters, Joan and Phyllis. Friends may visit with Marilyn’s family from 5-8 P.M., Sunday, May 14, 2017 at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, May 15, 2017 with Pastor Jim Collison officiating. Duane passed away Saturday, May 6, 2017 surrounded by his loving family at his home in Otsego. He was born December 13, 1948 in Plainwell the son of Orville and Dorothy (Gailey) Jackson. Duke proudly served his country in the US Navy during Vietnam. He was a 1968 Otsego High School graduate and for 33 years had worked at Menasha until it closed. He had also been a driver for Metro Transit of Kalamazoo until his retirement in 2011 and went on to work at Shamrock Hills Golf Course where he could be found every day. He was an avid golfer and had been Club Champion. In his spare time Duke enjoyed hunting, fishing, following NASCAR, especially Mark Martin and U of M Sports. On April 11, 1969 at St. Margaret Catholic Church in Otsego he married Mary Jo Rouse who survives. Also surviving are his children, Patrick Jackson of Otsego, Michael (Kim) Jackson of Otsego, Brian (Spring) Jackson of Portland, OR and Janine Jackson (Geoff) of Battle Creek; 5 grandchildren, Hunter, Addison, Molly, Kira and Harlon and his siblings, Robert (Cheryl) Jackson, Dennis Jackson and Denise (Derek) Looman. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Kenneth, Orville Jr. and Jim Jackson; in-laws, Fay and Dolores Rouse and by his niece, Amy. A funeral service was held May 10, 2017 at St. Margaret Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Ben Huynh officiating. Military Honors by Otsego VFW Post #3030. Cremation followed. Adelaide passed away Friday, May 5, 2017 at Life Care Center in Plainwell. She had recently celebrated her 100th Birthday and was born April 28, 1917 in Clinton County the daughter of Arthur and Kate (Hinman) Fayrweather. Adelaide and her husband Randall had owned and operated the State Farm Insurance Agency in Alma, MI for over 50 years. In 1998 she moved to Plainwell to be closer to family. In her spare time she enjoyed knitting, crocheting and dancing to big band music. Adelaide also enjoyed traveling and had visited almost all 50 states, Mexico and Spain. She had a great memory, having recently recited all 50 states in the order each entered the union and the alphabet backwards at her birthday celebration. In 1937 in Clinton Township she married Randall Weeks who passed away in 1992. Surviving are her children, Patricia Ann Salisbury of Otsego and Gregory Alan (Kris) Weeks of Colorado; 5 grandchildren, Debra (James) Root, Julie (Scott) Hembroff, Brian (Melissa) Smith, Jeremy (Jessica) Weeks and Heather (Roger) Masco and 5 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Max Fayrweather and sister, Lorene Fayrweather. According to her wishes cremation has taken place. Adelaide’s family would like to thank the staff at Life Care Center in Plainwell for the wonderful care she received over the last 12 years. William passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at his home in Gobles surrounded by his family. He was born January 15, 1938 in Detroit the son of Joseph and Rose (Lichtle) Newton. William proudly served his country in Army Intelligence in Germany in the Cold War. He was a real estate agent for over 35 years, retiring from Cornell & Associates. He also owned and operated William Newton and Associates Real Estate Valuation services. William had been nominated 3 times for Realtor of the Year and had served 4 terms as director of the Kalamazoo Board of Realtors. He was an active member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Allegan and was a member of the Plainwell Area Chamber of Commerce and was voted Person of the Year. In August of 1979, he married Kay Watkins who survives. Also surviving are his children, Kim Fox, Kellee Sumouske of Plainwell, Kevin (Valerie) Burd of Green Bay, WI and Lori Weathers of Novi, 11 grandchildren and 2 great-granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, JoAnne Martinez, daughter, Jody DeVries and 2 grandchildren, Steven Maxson and Ethan Weathers. A funeral service was held Monday, May 8, 2017 at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Allegan with Rev. Fr. Alan P. Jorgenson Celebrant, pastor of St. John Bosco and St. Margaret Mary and Rev. Fr. Ben Huynh Con-Celebrant. Burial took place at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta. The family wishes to give a very special thank you to Connie Summers and Heartland Hospice for the exceptional care they gave to Bill and his family. Contributions in memory of William may be made to St. Margaret’s Catholic School or Heartland Hospice.
