SCULPTURE COMPETITION - Tuesday, June 5th Election Day is coming June 5th... for the Sculpture Competition, that is. Three highly impressive pieces are eligible for the $10,000 award prize and the chance to grace the new entrance into the mill. We need your help to decide which artist will win, it's the people's choice. Wanted: Old Cell Phones My name is Karen McGuire, the daughter of Jimmy & Kumi McGuire and I'm a 7th grader at Woodrow Wilson Middle School. Recently, I was accepted into a program called People to People. This summer, I will be taking a trip to England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales to learn about their cultures and what it takes to become a student ambassador. I need to raise funds for my tuition on this trip. One of the ways is recycling old, used or even broken cell phones. I am working with a company called PhoneRaiser in Texas. I send them the cell phones; they refurbish them and send them to third-world countries or people in the army. I found out through this program that 1 phone can contaminate up to 39,000 gallons of water if disposed of in a normal landfill, and that currently only 4% of the cell phones get recycled.

Did you say WALK? Sham is a rock star on a leash. He loves going on walks and has to stop and say hello to everyone. He takes such pleasure in being out and about examining the real world, even if it means being at the end of a leash. His mood is always up, the minute he is out. Sham was a little hesitant with volunteers at the kennel when he first arrived, but has since let his guard down, and he has shown himself to be a friendly, social little guy. Clarence passed away May 20, 2012 at Borgess Medical Center, Kalamazoo. Doug was born July 1, 1942 In Kalamazoo. In 1960 he graduated from Kalamazoo Central, then graduated from WMU, attended U of M and served in the ROTC. After working many years in Chicago, he retired from the USDA. Doug, as he was known to those who loved him, was a man of integrity and respect. He chose an independent, frugal life, enjoying his cabin in Baldwin, fishing and living in harmony with nature and mankind. He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Esseltine; his parents, Ardis and Burton Rayman. Surviving are many cousins. Respecting his wishes he will be cremated. There will be no visitation or service. Those wishing may make a contribution in Doug’s memory to the American Cancer Society or the charity of their choice. Faith &Hope

YOU WANT ME TO DO WHAT? “…Rise, take up your bed and walk” – John 5:8 One of the great inspirations of my childhood was when world famous runner, Glenn Cunningham, spoke in my home church. His fastest time ever was 3:48.4 in the l936 Berlin Olympics. When he was six, he was seriously injured in a kitchen fire which took the life of his older brother, Floyd Cunningham. He was not expected to walk again. But he went on to do great things for Christ. I think of him every time I read John’s story about the miracle of healing the paralytic at the Pool of Bethesda (John 5: l-9). In Jerusalem, down by the sheep market, there was a pool that ancient people thought had some strange healing power. It was believed that occasionally an angel would come and stir up the water. The first sick person to get into the water would be healed. Somehow this man got to the pool and faithfully watched for his opportunity, but someone else always beat him into the pool. This went on for thirty-eight years. The repeated disappointment must have been hard to bear. Then along came Jesus who asked him, “Do you want to be well?” There is no limit to what God can do when we really want Him to take control of our lives. After the man told his story, Jesus commanded him, “Rise, take up your bed and walk.” I can only imagine what the man was thinking to himself - “You want me to do what? Are you kidding me?” What impossible command is Christ giving you to perform? To win this race? To pass this course? To allow Christ complete control of your life? To dig deeper into God’s Word? To tithe? To forgive? To give up some bad habit? To serve? To walk by faith? The next time Jesus gives you an impossible command; remember “… with God all things are possible” (Matthew 19:26). Prayer: Lord, give us the courage to listen and follow Your will. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen. Peace to you and please join us for worship this Sunday in a church where Jesus’ love is lived.
