Jesus loves children! On at least one occasion, in the region of Judea, great crowds came to hear him teach. Jesus got into a serious discussion with the Pharisees concerning some important ethical issues. At the same time people were bringing little children to Jesus that He might bless them. The disciples, perhaps caught up in their own sense of self-importance, tried to shoo them away. I can imagine them saying, “Can’t you see He doesn’t have time for you? Get these children out of here!” Jesus said the way to God’s kingdom is the way of child-like faith (Mark l0:15). To welcome children is to welcome Him (Matthew l8:5). Jesus pronounced harsh judgment upon anyone who harms children (Matthew l8:6). God has a special place in Heaven for children. In Matthew l8:10 we read “See that you do not look down on one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven.” One can only wonder if modern society has lost the quality of childlikeness. Sometimes in our tough-minded, ego-centered, win-at-all-cost world, it is hard to have the heart of a child. To be childlike is to be trusting, humble, honest, open and full of wonder. It is the willingness to believe, learn and grow. It is the way to God. Prayer: Dear Lord, restore within me the heart of a child, and life will be good. Amen

Moose Riders - Ride with Pride for Danny Truong Moose Lodge #345 - May 6th, 2017 740 Lincoln Road, Otsego, MI 49078 Danny is a 1st grader in Otsego. He was diagnosed with a brain tumor. He had part of it removed in Nov. 2016. He has been undergoing chemo treatments and will continue to do so for the rest of his life. He will be on medication also for the rest of his life. His family has huge medical bills and they keep coming in. All proceeds go to the Truong family for medical expenses. The ride and participation in bike show is $15. Each passenger is $5. To participate in the bike show alone, cost is $10. For the first 100 registered and paid riders, you will receive a $20 gift card to Dougies Bar and Grill in Otsego. Kick stands up at 1pm. U.S. Air Force Airman Halee E. Manning graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force. Manning is the daughter of Timothy M. Manning of Augusta, MI., and Pamela D. Manning of Allegan, MI, and sister of Larry L. Crawford of Plainwell, MI., Candice L. Fritz of Bloomingdale, MI., and Chelsea A. Albert Jessiman LAWRIE (Abby) AGE 75 - PLAINWELL, MI

Albert passed away after a courageous battle against cancer, on April 20, 2017 at home with his wife by his side. Albert was born August 3, 1941 in Aberdeen, Scotland. Albert was educated in Scotland and completed an apprenticeship as a Textile Engineer. He worked in several woolen mills in the United Kingdom and Ireland before coming to America in 1984 to work for the Forté Cashmere Company. He ran several textile factories for the Forté Company in America, Belgium, and Asia until his retirement. Albert is survived by his wife, Jean; his son, Peter Lawrie (Grainne) of Aberdeen, Scotland; his daughter, Patricia MacLeod (Alec) of Almeria, Spain; a brother, James Lawrie (Sheila) of Aberdeen, Scotland; a sister, Wendy Anderson of Inverurie, Scotland; his mother in-law, Ada Ernst; two grandsons, Gavin Lawrie (Lynsey) of Aberdeen Scotland, Oisin Lawrie (Lynn) of Tarves, Scotland; a great granddaughter, Erin Lawrie, and was anxiously awaiting the arrival of a second great grandchild who is due May 13, 2017, and with several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Aliestereen Lawrie; first wife, Cathleen, who was the mother of his children; a brother in-law, Gary Anderson; and his father in-law, Frank Ernst. A Celebration of Life will be held May 21, 2017 at the Gun River Conservation Club in Plainwell, Michigan at 2:00 p.m. A second Celebration of Albert’s life will be held in Aberdeen, Scotland at a future date. Albert was a very generous man. In lieu of flowers honor Albert by making a contribution to a charity of your choice or consider doing a random act of kindness to the many needy people of this world. AGE 87 - KALAMAZOO, MI Formerly of Plainwell

Mary Louise Kaechele Weaver died peacefully in the arms of her family on April 26, 2017 in Kalamazoo, Michigan at the age of 87. Mary Lou is survived by her children, Julie Bonnette (Eric Zonyk) of Kalamazoo, Michigan and Matthew Weaver of Grand Rapids, Michigan, grandchildren Samuel Bonnette (Catherine) of Northbrook, Illinois, Olivia and Madeline Weaver of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Preceding her in death were her parents, her brothers Lloyd and David Kaechele, sister Margaret Anne Kaechele Terry, and daughter-in-law Ingrid Weaver. Mary Lou was born on April 9, 1930 in Allegan, Michigan to Arthur and Florence Voorhorst Kaechele. She graduated from Allegan High School in 1948. She attended Michigan State University and graduated from Western Michigan University with a degree in Education. She went on to earn two Master's degrees in Reading from WMU. She married Basil Weaver Jr. in 1951 and loved being an Army wife in Alaska. Together they brought two children into the world. When Julie and Matt were school age, Mary Lou and Basil divorced. She then began her teaching positions with Plainwell Community Schools, a career which spanned over 30 years. She spent most of her life in Plainwell, Michigan and later at Parkview Hills in Kalamazoo. In retirement, she especially enjoyed wintering in Bradenton, Florida. She loved visiting art shows, listening to guest lecturers, attending jazz concerts, and going to the beach with her friends. She also traveled extensively and treasured her favorite trips to Spain and Greece. She was an avid reader who wasn't afraid to lay her book down and go share a beer at a moment's notice. To her children, grandchildren and friends she was loving, devoted, witty and fun. They were blessed to have her for 87 healthy years. Her smile will be forever missed. A celebration of Mary Lou's life is scheduled for Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Parkview Hills Club House. Friends are welcome to gather from 6:00 8:00 P.M. to reminisce, laugh, and raise a glass to an amazing lady. Mary Lou loved all dogs, especially her granddogs. 1928-2017 ~ formerly of Allegan Donna passed away April 26, 2017 at Life Care Center of Plainwell. She was preceded in death by her parents Lyman and Wava Kelsey, her husband of 20 years Cle Snyder and her brother Lyman Kelsey. Donna will be lovingly remembered by her sisters Treva Snyder, Gladys Wortinger and Marion Kelsey. Several nieces and nephews, great nieces & nephews and one great-great nephew. Memorial to be announced at a later date.

Trevor (Ted) Russell WARNER AGE 84 - OTSEGO, MI

Ted Warner of Otsego passed into his heavenly world on April 28, 2017 peacefully at home with his family at his side. He wanted to go "home". Ted was born on August 26, 1932 to Russell & Bessie Warner and lived in the area his entire life. On January 23, 1954 he married Hazel Sylvia Try and they were married for 64 years. He was a tool and die maker and retired from Haworth in Holland, MI. He loved going Up North as much as possible. He enjoyed hunting and had many tractors that he would tinker with. Even after losing his sight he would put a tractor together by feel. He was always building something. He belonged to the Fly Wheelers and loved tractor shows. Ted was preceded in death by his parents, brother, son-in-law and son. Surviving are his wife Hazel (Tootie); daughters Terri (Rich) Story and Tamera Warner; grandsons: Rob (Jessica) DanielsWarner and Ryan Story, sisters: Vonda Kirk and Verda Nelson. Helen passed away on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at the age of 62. Survivors are her husband of 42 years Robert Eagan and 4 sons, Robert (Stacey) Eagan, Chris Eagan, Scott Eagan, and John (Colleen) Eagan. Several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also surviving, her mother Alice (Knobloch) Evans, 1 sister Mary Ann Steele, 5 brothers Robert Evans of North Carolina, Allan (Judy) Evans, Tom (Kelly) Evans & Darl (Penny) Evans of Allegan, and Tim Evans of Plainwell.
