An official ribbon cutting ceremony was held May 16, 2019 to welcome Liquid Note Brewing @ The Arpeggio to the City of Otsego. Owner Linda McPherson is a familiar face as she opened Maude's Taphouse, next door, five years ago. Liquid Note Brewing was an idea brewing in Mark McPherson's mind for quite a while. He and friend Chris LaPonsie were chatting on the phone one Sunday afternoon when Mark suggested that capturing the styles of artists’ music would be an interesting spin on beer. “What does Johnny Cash’s music taste like in a pint glass?” was the question that Mark posed to Chris. Instantly, more ideas started to form and it was evident that the beers would be very easy to design using this philosophy. It is up to you to figure out the artist that goes along with each beer! Mary passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, June 12, 2019. She was born to George and Elizabeth Gehring on June 27, 1955. She leaves behind her husband of 43 years, Richard Howrigon, 2 sons, Ryan (Trisha) of Portage and Sean (Megan) of Elmhurst, Illinois; daughter, Nino (Dato) Dekanozishvilli of the Republic of Georgia; 8 grandchildren, Brayden, Kellan, Claire, Elias, Titus, Silas, Masho and Dato; brother, Tom (Betty) Gehring of Gobles; sisters and brothers –in-law, Mike (Sherry) Hanson of Otsego and Dave (Karen) Howrigon of Tennessee; mother-in-law, Clara Howrigon of Otsego along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and father-in-law, Jack Howrigon. According to her wishes cremation has taken place. Friends may visit with Mary’s family from 10:30 A.M., Monday, June 17, 2019 at the First Congregational Church of Otsego until the time of the memorial service at noon, with Pastor Don Boss officiating. Private family burial of ashes will take place at Mountain Home Cemetery at a later time. In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of Mary may be made to Christian Neighbors.
Russ passed away surrounded by his loving family Monday, June 10, 2019 at William Crispe Community House in Plainwell. He was born December 15, 1935 in Plainwell the son of Eldon and Julia (Stewart) Fisher. After high school Russ had worked at Michigan Cottage Cheese and as a supervisor at Menasha for over 35 years retiring in the late 1980’s. He enjoyed whistling, racing trottingbred horses, antiquing, and following his kids and grandchildren’s sporting events. In 1984 at the Otsego United Methodist Church he married Shirley Senese who survives. Also surviving are his children, Brad (Char Forbes) Fisher, Shawn (Ron) Gleason, Dawn Koerts, Deb (John) Johnson and Denise Allen; grandchildren, Tera (Chuck) Kinnane, Glen (Rachel) Fisher, Sarah (Josh) Wooster, Kelly Worden, Jesse (Brandy) Blanchard, Kyle (Rita) Gleason, Rick Gleason, Tiffani Gleason, Kevin (Katie) Koerts, Jesse (Alyssa) Koerts, Anthony (Amber) Johnson, Derick (Melissa) Johnson, Jeffery Johnson, Desirae (James) Haydon, Justin (Kenzie) Allen; step-grandchildren, Serih, Chuck, Elijah and Enoch; great-grandchildren, Madison, Kennedy, McKinley, Sierra, Victor, Reagan, Chase, Adam, Michael, Aleyca, AJ, Sophia, Brendon, Grace, Lane, Colton, Alex, Addie, Clara, Aubrey, Luke, Caroline, Trenton, Trevor, Tyler and Adeline and son-in-law, Dale Richards. Mary passed away Friday, June 7, 2019 at the Wings Home in Allegan. She was born April 17, 1934 in Allegan the daughter of Ivor and Ruth (Coppock) Coburn. Mary was a bookkeeper at several area businesses and had retired from Menasha in the 80’s. In her free time she enjoyed cross stitching, gardening, pickling beets, drawing and playing piano. Mary was an animal lover especially cats. After her retirement she married Ray Gingrich who passed away in 2015. Surviving are her children, Michael (Lorna) VanLent of Otsego, Gregory (Diana) Morris of Otsego; 9 grandchildren; 18 greatgrandchildren; her brother Beverly “Cobe” Coburn along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ray; sister, Donna Carroll; first husband, Eldon VanLent and second husband, Robert Morris. A graveside service was held June 11, 2019 at Hudson Corners Cemetery, Allegan Township. Celebrant, MaryAnn DeVries officiated. Elaine M. ANDERSON (Prolo) AGE 71 - PLAINWELL, MI
Elaine went to be with our Lord on June 10, 2019. Elaine was born November 6, 1947 in Plainwell, MI to parents Lloyd and Hazel Anderson. Elaine was an avid reader and spent her quiet time enjoying book after book. She read a lot of them! She also loved cooking for her family and spending time with all of her nieces and nephews. It was important to Elaine to be a positive influence not only on them, but on everyone in her life. She always had a heart full of love to share. Surviving Elaine are her sisters, Karen Snyder and Denise Anderson, her brothers, James (Zena) and Lloyd (Jerrilyn) Anderson, Jr. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Loydeen and Sandra Anderson and brother-in-law, Ron Snyder. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Luncheon will be held June 29th, 2019 at the Otsego Elks Lodge, 113 S. Farmer St. from 1:00pm to 3:00pm
“Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers a multitude of sins” (I Peter 4:8)
The key word in the verse above is the word “deeply.” When love runs deep, it covers a multitude of sins. On this Father’s Day I am thankful to God for the people who have shown love to me in my life. I have tried to pass that same love of God on to others.
Stop for a moment and examine the extent of God’s love. The love of Christ is unconditional, universal and unlimited. It is all-forgiving, all-encompassing and all – inviting. It is selfless, self-giving and sacrificial. His love is world-wide (John 3:16). Jesus said the greatest commandment is to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with your entire mind… and to love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:37-40). It is the true mark of discipleship (John 13:35). Love is the greatest thing in the world (I Corinthians 13:13).
Love is the one virtue from which other virtues flow. It expresses itself in such things as joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and selfcontrol (Galatians 5:22, 23).
Love can make a difference in our homes, our churches, our community and our world! Jesus has given the perfect answer to world peace and national unity. All we have to do is follow His example.
Napoleon Bonaparte was right when he said, “Alexander, Caesar, Charlemagne and I have founded empires. But on what did we rest the creations of our genius? Upon force. Jesus Christ founded His Empire upon love; and at this hour millions of men would die for him” Question: How deep is your love?
Prayer: Dear Lord, in the words of the apostle, may my love be so rooted and grounded in Christ that I may be able “to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ” (Ephesians 3:14-19). Amen.
