A Sampling of the Names in the Collection: The Otsego Area Historical Society is pleased to offer for sale individual portrait negatives and prints from the Plainwell and Otsego photographic studios of Joe Sherman, Nick DeVries, Russ Culver, and Cecil Davis. This historic collection of nearly 30,000 portrait sessions covers the years 1935 – 2009, and contains individual and family portraits, weddings, high school senior pictures, and many more! The collection is now fully indexed thanks to thousands of volunteer hours, and is available online at www.otsegohistory.org (see “Photo Index”). Search for your family name among the thousands of entries. The index contains basic information regarding each portrait session, including date, negative number, and sometimes a brief description. If you find a listing that you’d like to see, simply jot down the negative number and last name, and contact the historical society at oahs@otsegohistory.org, 269-744-1458, or visit the museum on Thursday evenings 6:30pm-8pm or Saturdays from 10am-2pm.

“Now faith is being sure of what we hope for...” Hebrews 11:1
Kay passed away Monday, July 9th at home with her family by her side. Kay was born March 21, 1939 in Kalamazoo, a long time resident of Plainwell and retiree from the Plainwell Paper Mill. She was preceded in death by her mother and father; Neil & Elizabeth Meninga, and brother, Ronald. She leaves behind four children: Donald Scott (Jeannie) Greene, Rodney Allen Greene (Shar Black), Cheryl Kay (Randy) Schmidt, Jeffery Steven (Diane) Greene; grandchildren: Tyler, Caleb, Heather, Melanie, Tammy, Matt, Amanda, Alex; 10 greatgrandchildren; two brothers: Gary (Candi) Dunham, Fransis (Sharon) Dunham, a sister: Jan (Bob) Stevens, and many nieces and nephews. A service to celebrate Kay's life will be held at the Otsego Moose Lodge on M-89 Saturday, July 21st at 1:00 pm, with a luncheon to follow. Donations can be made to Wings of Hope Hospice, Allegan or CJD Foundation.
Faith may be defined as acting out what one believes. Faith believes God loves us and sent Jesus Christ to save us from our sins. Faith is trusting God no matter what our situation. “Faith without works is dead” (James 2:l7). But faith must have an object. One must believe in someone or something. God is our Someone – the object of our faith. Now we can say with the psalmist “For you have been my hope, O Sovereign Lord, my confidence since my youth …” (Psalm 71:5). Apostle Paul reminds us that we are saved by hope (Romans 8:24). We can rejoice in hope (Romans l2:12) knowing hope is stored up for us (laid up for us) in heaven (Colossians l:5). Apostle Peter reminds us that God “in his great mercy has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead” (I Peter 1:3). Here are some other ways of expressing this blessed promise: Faith is trusting God’s Word; Hope is faith lived out. Faith believes God; Hope is living for God. Faith is expectation; Hope is realization. In other words, “Faith is being sure of what we hope for.” Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to trust you completely today and for all my tomorrows.
