Colossians 1:12-14 REFLECTION: Here is a clear message about our salvation. It begins when God delivers us from the depths of ruin into which we were plunged. For wherever God’s grace is not, there is darkness. The Bible clearly teaches that we ourselves are called darkness, born of sin for sinning. People who are wise and observant can readily see that our world is governed by the Prince of darkness. Under this tyranny we are held captive until we are set free by Christ’s hand. Some people will not agree with this statement. The reason is that people think we have a proclivity to do good and that our bad behavior is taught to us. Nothing is further from the biblical truth! The whole world, with all its pretended wisdom and righteousness, is regarded as nothing but darkness in the sight of God. Apart from the kingdom of Christ, there is no true love, faith, and hope. When a person becomes a Christian they are transferred into being a citizen of God’s kingdom. When we transfer into the kingdom of Christ we pass from death into life. 1 John 3:14 “If we love our brothers and sisters who are believers, it proves that we have passed from death to life. But a person who has no love is still dead.” Find a place to worship this Sunday and try to humble yourself before God. PRAYER TIME: Loving God, your word is a lamp to my feet and it guides me to embrace Your Son’s glory.

I pray this day that You continue to open my ears to hear the invitation to be loved by You. Open my eyes to see how You have enabled me to share in the inheritance of your eternal Kingdom. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Letter to the Editor To the City of Otsego Voters With you We Stopped Public Act 33 of 1951

The City Commission did not make any cost saving cuts to this year's budget. Many concerned residents of Otsego believe that should have and could have been done.

The City Commission did approve the 2022-2023 budget with about 3% in raises for the office staff.

At this time the City Commission has not shared any plan to help the Fire Department with their needs or concerns for Fire Trucks.

Wanted to let you know As of June 30, 2022 the D.D.A. has a Cash Balance of about $200,000 per D.D.A. AGENDA 7/11/2022. The D.D.A. talked about how they could SPEND the $200,000.

The D.D.A could keep all the funds and pay for the needed building and parking lot upkeep the City said they needed.

They could give it to the City. The City could use 70% that needs to be divided between the general fund, PD, and recycling. That could help the general fund. The other 30% has to go to the county.

Next City Commission meeting 7pm on 7/18/22 We have attended the City Commission meetings and we still need your help.

Coco is perpetually happy, playful, a bit silly and loving. He would do great in a home with plenty of room to play and be active. Coco would love a home with another dog (but this is not necessary) as he really wants to play! He could be too enthusiastic for some dogs, so if there is a dog already in your home, a meet and greet will be set up to make sure the dogs are a god match. He was a little nervous when he was tested with cats and will be tested again if a potential adopter has a cat. It is recommended that any children in his forever home are 10 years old and up and respectful of pets. Coco is just 2 years old and weighs 60 pounds.

Danyel A. "Dani" CALDWELL AGE 37 - PLAINWELL, MI "Among the best things we can give each other are lasting memories."

Danyel passed away on Friday, July 1, 2022 with her family and friends by her side. She was born on February 6, 1985 in Kalamazoo, MI. She is the daughter of Vickey (Dines) Christopher and John L. Caldwell, Jr. In 2004 Danyel was employed with Borgess Hospital as a "Transporter". She moved on to work for Allied Cash Advance in Plainwell, MI where she held a management position ten years. To further her goals in life she took on a position with OnStaff of Otsego, MI, becoming an office manager. She helped others better their lives with job positions within our community. We all know Danyel as a "beautiful, loving, caring, single mom of three children who gave 100% and more."She loved participating to her fullest in Trinity and Thomas's school activities and sports. But most of all she loved adventuring with her kids and her friends camping, fishing, mushrooming, and river tube floating. She always enjoyed traveling down to Tennessee on the kids' spring break to spend quality time with her mom and step-dad as well as returning to Michigan to be with her mother-in-law, Marcia Holdeman. She has "always" been the one "all about our family and friends." Danyel will truly be missed but the memories she left us will last forever as the love she holds in her heart for us all. Surviving are her children, Trinity, Thomas Almaquer and Johnathon Holdeman of Plainwell, MI; brother Tyrel Caldwell (Katie Garlick); stepsisters Dainelle (Marcus) Sleeman, Katie (Rob) Kuiper, Christy (Mike) Billman; step-brothers Devan Christopher, Rickey (Jamie) Lynd; grandpas Douglas Duryea and Robert Dines and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, John L. Caldwell, Jr., grandma Shirley Duryea and greatgrandparents. Per Danyel's wishes, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2022 from 2-6pm at cousin Rodney and Jean Robinson's residence: 5401 E. CD Ave., Kalamazoo, MI 49004 with her uncle Willis Caldwell speaking. Contributions in memory of Danyel for her children can be made at Honor Credit Union, Plainwell, MI to the Danyel Caldwell Savings Account.

Franklin Richard Stoneburner passed away July 9, 2022 at Ascension Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo. Frank was born January 29, 1938 in Alamo Township, the son of Clinton and Ruth (Kaylor) Stoneburner. Frank owned a dairy farm in the Delton area since 1965 and continued to farm even after retirement.

Faith was important to Frank and he was a member at Solid Rock Bible Church. In his free time, Frank enjoyed gardening and attending his grandchildren’s many activities and sports. He was a very social person and relished in the opportunity to sit and visit with the many friends he had. Frank’s family will remember his ability to make up different lyrics to songs and his witty humor he was so known for. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 63 years, Judy (Lukins) Stoneburner; children: Denise (Don) Osborne, Glenn (Barb) Stoneburner, Andy (Terisa) Stoneburner; 10 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; siblings: Harry Stoneburner, Judy Jaeger, Hugh Stoneburner; several nieces and nephews. Frank was preceded in death by his parents, great granddaughter, Emmalynn Osborne; and nine siblings. Frank’s funeral service was conducted at 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at Solid Rock Bible Church. Pastor Roger Claypool officiated. Burial took place at Prairieville Cemetery.

Memorial contributions to Solid Rock Bible Church will be appreciated.

Believers in Christ have been compared to runners in a race. The metaphor comes from the ancient Greek games in which runners competed for prizes. Athletes, who competed according to the rules, were crowned not with medals or trophies, but with evergreen wreaths (2 Timothy 2:5).
