As this article is being written, extreme heat has a firm grip on our nation. When we pray for rain, let us include a prayer of thanksgiving for the farmers who work the land and trust God for the harvest. There are times when all of us have experienced spiritual drought. Some of the greatest saints of the church knew the dark night of the soul. Before he started the Protestant Reformation, Martin Luther experienced severe depression. John Wesleyâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s hunger and thirst for God led to his conversion at Aldersgate (England) and prompted the Methodist movement. Back in 2007 the world was shocked to learn, from her letters, that Mother Teresa endured a fifty year period when she did not feel the presence of God. The only cure for spiritual drought is to drink from the fountain that never runs dry. Jesus said, â&#x20AC;&#x153;He who believes in Me, as the Scriptures has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living waterâ&#x20AC;? (John 7:38). One cannot give out what one has failed to take in.â&#x20AC;? Apparently, the invitation of Christ continues on into eternity (Revelation 22:17). Prayer: Lord, I am hungry and thirsty for You. Please come into my life today. In Jesusâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; name. Amen. Evelyn Irene Japhet AGE 88 - SHELBYVILLE
Evelyn was born June 17, 1924 and passed from this life on July 3, 2012 at her home in Shelbyville. She was the last of four children born to Henry and Bessie Gruber Japhet. She was preceded in death by her parents, both her brothers Henry and Carl Japhet, her sister Helen and brother-in-law Glenn Shook as well as her two nephews Roger and Robert Shook and great-great nephew Patrick Sanders. Evelyn is survived by her niece Raylene (Steve) Bennington, several grand nieces and nephews as well as great-great nieces and nephews and cousins. She spent most of her working life in Otsego at Mason Can and Michigan Cottage Cheese Co. Cremation has taken place. Family and friends gathered at East Martin Cemetery for graveside services on July 17th with Pastor Rich Goldsmith officiating.
The Family of Ron Ray would like to thank everyone for being there for Ron’s Celebration of Life. The support of everyone was greatly appreciated. Special thanks for the donations made to the Veteran’s Memorial, Rick, Ron, Amy & the Ladies Auxiliary. Ron was special to many people.

AGE 67 - OTSEGO
David passed away Monday, July 16, 2012, at his home. Dave was born July 21, 1944 in Toledo, OH to Grant and Ernestine (Radsick) Holmes. From 1961 to 1981 he served his country in the US Navy. He was a Life Member of V.F.W. and a member of the U.S.S. Little Rock Association. Dave retired from the U.S. Navy in 1981, but he fully retired in 2008 with his wife, Bev.They moved into their motor home and became full-timers! The first year on the road took them to 27 states, which Bev chronicled on their blog. Eventually they settled in the RV in summers at Schnable Lake Campground in Otsego and winters in Las Vegas or Florida, traveling wherever they wanted on the road in between. On November 25, 1977 in Otsego he married Beverly Ann Hoyt, who survives. Also surviving are 1 son and 2 daughters, Daniel Holmes of Traverse City, Kimberly (James) Hall of Bonney Lake, WA, Michele (Brett) Everson of Graham, WA; 5 grandchildren, Andrew Charles, Kyle Everson, Heather Hall, Adrienne Holmes and Ellery Holmes; a brother, James E. (Gaye) Holmes of Hayden, AL; a sister, Faye Ann (Harold) Rickabaugh of Spring Lake, MI; 47 nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews; good friends, Bruce and Lynda LaFountain of Otsego. He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Holmes; a sister, Mary Lucinda Klosinski; and a great nephew, Jesse Tyminski. Funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Friday, July 20 at Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego, with Pastor David Reed officiating. Cremation will follow. Contributions in memory of Dave may be made to the U.S.S. Little Rock Association.
