Help Wanted: City of Otsego Wastewater Treatment Plant Maintenance Worker Position

Responsibilities include, but not limited to operation, maintenance, and repair of the Wastewater Treatment Plant & Lift Stations; performing laboratory testing; and assisting the Water Department as needed. Roy passed away Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. He was born February 7, 1933 in Trowbridge Township, the son of Everett and Lillie (VanCamp) Ellison. Roy worked at BASF in Holland for 40 years until his retirement. In his free time Roy enjoyed collecting antiques, working on clocks and shopping with his wife. He was a member of the Cornerstone Christian Center in Plainwell. Surviving are his wife, Meriam; daughter, Chris (Larry) Bolhuis of Galesburg; step-children, Steve (Charleen) Wooten of Plainwell and Rita (David) Wooten-Meyers of Battle Creek; granddaughter, Emily; step-grandchildren, Chris and Steven and step-great-grandchildren, Ellie, Bella and Marissa. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Lucy; step-granddaughter, Melissa and by his siblings. Friends may visit with Roy’s family starting at 10 AM, Friday, July 30, 2021 at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego, until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 A.M., with Steve Wooten officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Allegan. Contributions in memory of Roy may be made to Cornerstone Christian Center of Plainwell.

Our beautiful daughter, Lisa, went home to be with her Saviour on Sunday, July 25, 2021 at her home in Plainwell. She was born April 4, 1973 in Paw Paw, the daughter of Paul and Brenda (Brown) Shinault. Lisa was a 1991 graduate of Bloomingdale High School and received her BA in business from Cornerstone University. For 11 years she worked as office coordinator at Tengam Engineering in Otsego. Lisa loved and adored her son Jack and enjoyed watching him play sports. She also liked relaxing in her hot tub, mowing the lawn, writing her blog and spending time with friends. Surviving are her son, Jack of Otsego; parents Paul and Brenda Shinault; sisters, Teresa (Mike) Dykstra and Danielle (Roy) Nuismer all of Grand Junction along with 8 nieces and nephews and 2 great-nieces. According to her wishes cremation has taken place. Friends may greet the family on Saturday, July 31, 2021 from 11:00 AM until the time of the memorial service at 11:30AM at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in South Haven with Pastor Larry Phillips officiating. Burial of ashes will take place at Grand Junction Cemetery at a later date. Contributions in memory of Lisa may be made to a scholarship fund for her son Jack Holmes.

Gregory Lee LAFORGE AGE 58 - PLAINWELL, MI

Greg passed away unexpectedly on July 20, 2020 at the age of 58, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife Sheri, their children Eric (Brenna) LaForge and Kevin LaForge (Jayden Guarisco), his brother Mark, his granddaughter Nora, and many friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Phyllis LaForge. Greg was born November 30, 1961 in Gary, Indiana. He graduated from Otsego High School in 1979. He received his bachelor’s degree in computer science and his MBA from Western Michigan University. He then worked for several companies including Parker Motor Freight and TGIF Software. Greg also devoted 22 years of his life to the Boy Scouts of America, serving as Cubmaster and Committee Chair of Pack 3024, and Scoutmaster of Troop 35. Greg and Sheri were married on May 18, 1985, and they had just celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary. They welcomed their sons Eric and Kevin in May 1992 and December 1999, respectively. Greg loved spending time with his wife, kids, and his granddaughter. He loved camping with the Scouts and planning trips, like hiking in Alaska. He enjoyed spending time at Gun Lake and taking his friends and family on boat rides. He loved traveling, especially to Hawaii. Greg loved to go hiking at Hawaii Volcano National Park and watch the lava flows. Another passion of Greg’s was cooking-- especially testing out new recipes for Scout Camp. He was known for his infectious spirit and his ability to befriend anyone. A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, August 7 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the McCowen & Secord Funeral Home Marshal Gren Chapel; 120 S. Woodhams St. in Plainwell. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 at the same location. Donations can be made in his name to the Plainwell Scout Troop #35, or to ACCF Greg LaForge Memorial Scholarship, PO Box 278, Allegan, MI 49010, or online at https://alleganfoundation.org/product/greg-laforge-memorial-scholarship-fund. Gordon “Gordy” Berwin HENSON PLAINWELL, MI

Gordy passed away on Monday, July 26, 2021, at Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo, MI. Gordy had struggled the past few years with many serious health issues. Gordy was born in Plainwell, Michigan and graduated from Plainwell High School. He enjoyed hunting, ﬁshing and working with his father on many projects. Gordy was a good friend to many. He is survived by his father, Berwin Henson; nephew and niece, Chris and Hannah Ward. There will be a memorial service for Gordy on Saturday, August 14, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at Joldersma & Klein Funeral Home, 917 S. Burdick St. Kalamazoo. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Gordy will be laid to rest next to his mother at West Cooper Cemetery. God wants us to grow into His likeness day by day. That is because this life is a preparation for the life to come. I was reminded of this recently when I noticed a friend wearing a tee shirt with the following words printed on it: “EVERY DAY IS TRAINING DAY.” Coaching legend John Wooden said, “When opportunity comes, it is too late to prepare.” The question is: What does it mean to be trained in righteousness? Let’s take a closer look:

There is peace in knowing we are on the right track and guided in the right direction. What greater peace can we have than the peace of Christ’s presence? My ninety-five year old High School typing teacher is one of my Face Book friends! In her class I remember her repeating often the three keys to being a good typist: Practice! Practice! Practice! This is also true for living the Christian life. The secret to Christian growth and maturity is Practice! Practice! Practice! Yes, it is true. When it comes to Christian living, “Every day is training day.”

She is having a hard time at the animal shelter; she is losing weight and feeling down. She needs to find a foster home or better yet, a forever home ASAP. Please help her. Belle is sweet, friendly and energetic, she will make one lucky family an awesome companion. A fairly active family that will spend time playing /exercising Belle each day and also wants a buddy during TV time would be perfect! Belle loves to play with toys, but really enjoys being pet and loved up! She also enjoys laying in grass and stretching out on her belly. Belle is a young pup, a little over one year old . She is a nice sized girl, not too big and not too small (currently less than 50 pounds). Belle has super cute markings and has super soft tiger striped fur. Belle is friendly and loving, however at this time, she will need to be the only pet in her forever home. It is recommended that any children in Belle's forever home are teens.
