Barbara passed away on July 27, 2020. Barb was born on January 10, 1923 to Peter & Mary (Alicki) Marciniak. Barb’s family includes her children: Jeanne (Bill) Cooper and Mark (Janyce) Darrow; grandchildren: Keith Darrow, Lisa (Dan) Cox, Lynne (Don) Seibert and Molly (Calvin) VanKeuren-Bragg; 9 great grandchildren as well as an abundance of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Guy and her 11 brothers and sisters. Barb and Guy were big Detroit Tigers fans and attended several opening day games as well as several other games throughout the years. It is fitting that Barb passed away on opening day of the Tigers season. For several years Barb was an integral part of Guys work at the local Hardings Market. She hosted countless employee gatherings. She also enjoyed volunteering for Christian Neighbors.

Greg passed away unexpectedly on July 20, 2020 surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife Sheri, their children Eric (Brenna) LaForge and Kevin LaForge (Jayden Guarisco), his brother Mark, his granddaughter Nora, and many friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Phyllis LaForge. Greg was born November 30, 1961 in Gary, Indiana. He graduated from Otsego High School in 1979. He received his bachelor’s degree in computer science and his MBA from Western Michigan University. He then worked for several companies including Parker Motor Freight and TGIF Software. Greg also devoted 22 years of his life to the Boy Scouts of America, serving as Cubmaster and Committee Chair of Pack 3024, and Scoutmaster of Troop 35. Greg and Sheri were married on May 18, 1985, and they had just celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary. They welcomed their sons Eric and Kevin in May 1992 and December 1999, respectively. Greg loved spending time with his wife, kids, and his granddaughter. He loved camping with the Scouts and planning trips, like hiking in Alaska. He enjoyed spending time at Gun Lake and taking his friends and family on boat rides. He loved traveling, especially to Hawaii. Greg loved to go hiking at Hawaii Volcano National Park and watch the lava flows. Another passion of Greg’s was cooking-- especially testing out new recipes for Scout Camp. He was known for his infectious spirit and his ability to befriend anyone. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. Pat passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at Life Care Center in Plainwell. She was born May 6, 1935 in Bowling Green, Ohio the daughter of Carl and Marie (McNally) Miller. Pat enjoyed crocheting, needlework crafts, reading, online puzzle games and watching game shows. On June 2, 1986 she married John Clark who passed away in 2013. Surviving are her children, Rod (Ribut) Coe, Deb West, Terry (Lori) Coe, Ron (Kim) Coe, Jeff Coe, Dawn (Randy) Moore and Jay (Susan) Clark; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. According to her wishes cremation has taken place. Burial of ashes will take place at Vicksburg Cemetery at a later time. Helen passed away Thursday, July 23, 2020 at Kalkaska Long Term Care. She was born September 15, 1919, in Grand Junction, the daughter of Homer and Pearl (King) Evans. While her husband was stationed in Arizona she worked on the U.S Army base and then at Western Michigan University for 20 years retiring in 1983 as the administrative assistant of the Industrial Technology Department. Helen enjoyed taking care of her children and following and helping with all of their activities. She was a leader with the Twin Lakes 4-H and was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Otsego. In her free time Helen stayed busy canning and freezing food for her family. On July 10, 1943 she married H. Ross Jerrett Jr. who passed away in 2006. Surviving are her daughter, Susan (Thomas) Sawasky of Mancelona; daughter-in-law, Mary Lou Jerrett of Port Huron; grandchildren, Laura, Todd (Bridget), Heather and Chad; great-grandchildren, Jeremy, Kayla, Jacob, Luke, Owen and Nickolai and her sister, Blanche Wilkinson. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Harris R. “Jerry” Jerrett III; sisters, Ethel Michaud, Maude Butler, Florence Nelson and June Overhiser and her brothers, Clare, Ralph, Bob, Mart and Lawrence Evans. “SURVIVING TRAGIC TIMES”

Romans 12:12 What will survivors of COVID -19 tell their children and grandchildren someday about these times? Pastor Rick Warren explains that everyone lives on one of three levels: survival, success or significance. Most of us live in the survival mode. I think if we were to interview survivors of notable times of difficulty, we would hear stories of faith and hope. Let us consider the testimony of some of those survivors. On April 15, 1912 the Titanic, known as the unsinkable ship – hit an iceberg and 1,500 people lost their lives. Pastor John Harper was one of them. At a survivors meeting in Ontario, Canada four years following the tragedy, a person testified, “I am the last convert of Pastor John Harper.” Other examples are survivors of The Great Depression (1929-1933). I remember my father saying, “We were poor, but no one told us we were poor.” I have heard others say things like, “Times were hard but we just kept moving on.” The amazing Corrie ten Boom was a Holocaust survivor. She started a rehabilitation center for concentration camp survivors. She also formed a global ministry to preach the power of forgiveness. She famously said, “There is no pit so deep that God’s love is not deeper still.” Thirty thousand people were killed in the Armenian Earthquake of l989. A father was able to miraculously rescue his son from the rubble of an elementary school. The young boy said he remembered his father telling him, “I’ll always be there for you.” This brings to mind the words of Jesus, “Lo, I am with you always” (Matthew 28:20). On September 11, 2001 terrorists hijacked U.S. commercial jetliners and crashed them into the World Trade Center in New York, the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and in a field in Pennsylvania. Total lives lost were 2,977 and more than 6,000 were injured in the attack. One of the survivors, a young man who worked in the south tower, told of the darkness and confusion in trying to escape. The force of the second plane sent him to the floor. In the midst of the darkness he felt a hand on his shoulder. It was a policeman who said, “Follow me. I know the way out.” From its beginning, the message of Jesus has been, “Follow me, I am the way” (John 14:6). Apostle Paul, a missionary in the early church and author of most of the New Testament, knew the meaning of human suffering (2 Corinthians 11:24-27). In Romans 12:12, he gives us three ways to cope: “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, and faithful in prayer” If we practice these three things, we will survive.

Prayer: “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit” (Romans 15:13). In Your strong name. Amen.
