During my senior year of college I ended up rooming with a guy I didn’t know His name was Dave He was super shy incredibly introverted and a bit odd (aren’t we all) You’d never guess it from his quiet demeanor, but Dave would wake up and blast death metal music It freaked me out, which is why I slept with one eye open

One day, Dave said I have a crush on this girl in my class He told me her name and I found her phone number Without Dave’s permission and while he was in the room with me, I called her on the phone I said to her, “Hi, I’m Lenny and Dave would like to talk to you I forced him to get on the phone and chat with her He was speechless except for uh, um ” I whispered, “Dave, say ‘hello’ and ask her how her day was Tell her how you feel about her ” He handed me the phone, unable to speak to her

Dave was overly complicating what should have been simple communication He was overthinking it And he missed out on communicating with the girl of his dreams I, on the other hand, was able to communicate with that same girl Her name was Amy A few months later, I offered a simple sentence to her saying, “I’m growing quite fond of you ” I swept her off of her feet with that rather simple, ineloquent sentence Eventually, Amy became my wife Communication has its benefits

Communicating with God in prayer has incredible benefits too But sometimes we overthink it In the same way Dave couldn’t talk to the girl of his dreams we sometimes don’t know what to say to the God of our dreams We overly complicate the simple language of prayer Don’t worry about finding the correct words, just come to God with a contrite heart Greet him and tell him how you feel about him Some of the most beautiful prayers I’ve ever heard lacked eloquence but had heart They were real and raw, honest and humble Instant messaging with God through prayer is simple Keep it real Keep it simple Keep it going Jesus loves you, Pastor Lenny Luchetti Check out our website for more information about the church and our team: www.otsegocongregational.org
