DPW Technician DPW Technician is a labor intensive position that requires a current and active CDL. The Otsego DPW is a small team that have many responsibilities. Duties will focus on maintenance of City-owned assets including streets, parks, and buildings among others. An ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of construction, general maintenance and mechanics and have an appreciation for teamwork and public service. This is a union position and will start at $22.75 per hour and will be increased to $24.55 after 6 months.

The Customer Service Specialist opening can be Part or Full Time with a ½ day on Saturdays and 34 flexible weekdays. The flex days should be consistent once determined.

All candidates must have:

Every generation has a moment of national crisis. Here are just some examples:

• December 7, 1941 (National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day) • November 22, 1963 (The Assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

• April 19, 1995 (The Oklahoma City Bombing, homegrown terrorism)

• September 11, 2001 (The Terrorist Attack on America)

The question of my generation was “What were you doing when President Kennedy was shot?” A teenager at the time, the world became very silent. My home church invited people in to pray. The next generation asked, “What were you doing on 9/11?” I was watching the morning news when our nation came under attack by terrorists. The image of people running frantically away from buildings while first responders ran into buildings will be etched in our minds forever.

I find the date rather ironic. We write the date September 11, 2001 numerically as 9/11. The number 911 is the universal emergency number in our country and Canada. The origin is explained as an easy number to remember. Further, it has never been designated as an area code or service code.

Josh is a happy silly doggo - he likes to go for walks, roll in the cool grass and get back scratches. He would love to join a home that already has a dog so they could become best buds. Josh will likely chase cats in the home, however if the cat is used to dogs and you are willing to introduce them slowly, plus teach Josh to generally leave the cat alone, then he should be okay joining a home with a cat. It is recommended that any children in Josh's forever home are teenagers.

This brings us to the words of Psalm 121. In ancient times, believers made periodic pilgrimages to Jerusalem. It took many days to travel on foot. They would camp out at night in the desert and there was always the danger they would be attacked by wild animals or robbers. Thus, a guard or sentry would be stationed on a high hill near them. He would be in a position to warn of possible danger.

The point: God never falls asleep! God is on call 24/7! The psalmist wants us to know that we can trust God to help us regardless of what we may suffer, fear or lose.

Cindy passed away Friday, September 3, 2021 at the Laurels of Sandy Creek in Wayland. She was born July 29, 1958 in Plainwell, the daughter of Gayle and Eleanor (MacDonald) Livingston. For many years she worked in the emergency room at Borgess and Bronson retiring in 1987. Cindy enjoyed reading Stephen King novels, Mickey and Minnie Mouse, watching Jeopardy, M.A.S.H. and the Wizard of Oz, cats and making people laugh. Surviving are her sons, Michael (Jessica) Livingston of Holt and Thomas (Andrea) Chappell of Holland; 5 grandchildren; siblings, Bonnie Goodacre, Cheryl Heckman-Starkey and Jan Myers-Carpenter along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and half-brother, Tom Ellwood. According to her wishes cremation has taken place. Burial of ashes with a graveside service will take place at 11:00 A.M., Friday, September 10, 2021 at Mountain Home Cemetery in Otsego. Steve passed away Sunday, September 5, 2021 at his home in Otsego. He was born April 18, 1954, in Allegan, the son of Earl and Mable (Kurtz) Holmes. For 37 years Steve worked for AT&T. In his free time he enjoyed woodworking, tinkering around the house, doing home improvements and was always willing to help his family and friends. On June 5, 1976 at Otsego Church of God, he married Marie Watson who survives. Also surviving are his children, Kari (Edwin) Swartz and Chad Holmes; brothers, Donald (Eileen) Holmes and Russell (Marsha) Holmes; sister-in-law, Melinda (Ken) Holmes-Watson along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Kendall Holmes. According to his wishes cremation has taken place. Burial of ashes will take place at Mountain Home Cemetery in Otsego. Contributions in memory of Steve may be made to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.

Victor proudly served in the U.S. Army from 19721976. In 1973, he was united in marriage to the former Karen Kleinbrink for several years. Victor is survived by their children: daughter Melanie Smith, son Matthew (Shannon) Goddard and daughter Heather Goddard of NC. Also surviving are their grandchildren Dustin and Lexus Smith of Otsego and Demitrius Makala and Kendra Goddard of Martin. Victor is also survived by his sister Helen Haan and brother Rick Kurtz of NC as well as many close nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother Betty and sister Doris of Mount Pleasant. Victor drove semi for many years, then more recently school bus for handicapped children. Cremation has taken place at his request and no services are planned at this time.

Jim is survived by his wife, Amy, children Amanda, Logan, and step-daughter, Megan. Jim had three grandchildren: Jacob, Jason and Jaden, his mother, Mary Ann, in-laws Greg and Diane, sister, Michelle Lynn, nephew, John, aunt, Karen, uncle, Jack and best friend, Rob. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard. Jim will be remembered as an avid sportsman who spent many hours with family and friends hunting and fishing. Although his loss was sudden, his memory will live on in everyone who knew and loved him.

Nancy received her wings on August 7th, 2021. She was the sixth of seven children born to Orley James and Nancy Lilly Stocking on July 31st, 1937 in Grand Rapids, MI. After graduation from Sand Lake High School, she worked at Michigan National Bank. Nancy married Charles Pritchard. They raised three children: Cheryl M. (John Martinson), Renee (George) Smith and Charles (Bobbi) Pritchard. Nancy was a member of Amvets, the Moose, and the American Legion. She loved her church family of United Church of Christ in Holiday, FL. Nancy moved to Florida and married Roger Pickron. She loved her stepchildren as her own: Laurie (Mike) Bell, Kathy (Gene) Fein and Bobby Pickron. Nancy loved and adored her yorkie, "Dixie". Family was the most important to Nancy. She had four grandchildren: Trina Marie Marks, Cody and Kenny Moore, Issac Pritchard, and also Jessica Kettler; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Nancy had so many interests. She refused to slow down, always had to be busy, busy. She skydived on her 60th birthday, loved karaoke, and raised her children with the love for music. She loved watching her son and husband playing in bands. It wasn't unusual to find her family singing and dancing at home. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, five siblings, both husbands and one stepson. Her Memorial Service will be on September 18th, 2021 at 4:00pm at the the Otsego VFW. Cremation has taken place and burial will take place with her husband Roger Pickron at the Mountain View Cemetery in Otsego

Lee has passed on to greener pastures September 3, 2021. After 87 years, we no longer have the pleasure of his company. Preceded in death by his Wife Norma Sheridan and his parents George Sheridan and Gladys Morey MIchaels, he is survived by his two brothers Tom & Dave Michaels, currently living in Montana. Lee was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan but lived most of his life in Allegan and Van Buren counties. Lee was a well respected Horseman, Auctioneer, Entrepreneur, Horse Trader and had a successful run with Michigan Thoroughbred Horse Racing, breeding and training several very successful race horses. However his real passion was riding gaited horses with friends and family. He loved to go fishing, especially when he caught fish. He also enjoyed meeting new folks and doing a little horse trading. He spent much of his first 60 years in the horseback riding stable business and could always be counted on to drive out into the boondocks to look at another horse, sometimes trading: eating chickens, laying hens, pregnant rabbits, and saddles with tack just to make the deal a little sweeter. Throughout his life, he gained a greater understanding, appreciation and respect for his Amish neighbors and was honored to call them friends. Lee was the Father of 5 Children: Rex Van Koevering, Robert Sheridan, Debbie Sweet, Curt Sheridan, and Dottie Sowle as well as his step daughter Leah Pruitt. All still live in the area with children of their own - 8 grandchildren and 6 greatgrandchildren as well as his faithful dog, Amy. It is easy to see he left his mark in Michigan, with endless possibilities for the future.

Jim passed away on Tuesday, August 31, 2021. Jim was born on March 7, 1936 in Vest, Kentucky the son of Alex and Mollie (Hayes) Fugate. Jim enjoyed traveling, spending time with friends and family, the fellowship of church, and dinnertime. Jim is survived by son, James Edward Jr. (Candy) Fugate; daughters: Kristy (John) Huddleston and Marlene (Fred) Fugate both of Arkansas; grandchildren: Jordan McFarlane, Ashley Miller, Stephanie Gibson, Erik Freeman, Jennifer Sibley, Dakota Fugate, and Dylan Fugate; great grandchildren: Laney, Taylor, Madelyn, Jack, Stephen, Lillian, Gavin, Kyle, Ethan, and Dylan; brothers: Alex (Bud) Fugate, Bill Fugate, Charles (Marilyn) Fugate, Jerry (Sharion) Fugate; sister, Herma Dehn, all of Michigan; and numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; former wife, Alice Fugate; daughter, Sandra Winn; granddaughter, Rachel Freeman; brothers: James (Rusty) Elden, Rooselvelt, and Herman; sisters: Annette, Ada, and Margaret. Sharon went to be with her Lord on September 1, 2021. Sharon was born on October 16, 1956 to Richard & Sharon (Versaw) Ulrich. Sharon is survived by her children: Meg (Dion) Buchino, Emma (Rick Burd) Mendoza, John VanGemert and Thomas VanGemert; five grandchildren: Adrian, Brandon, Devin, Brice, and Charlee Lou; her siblings: Dick Ulrich, Elizabeth Ulrich, Paul Matusiak, Janet Wing, and Maggie Matusiak; her Uncle Bob Versaw, as well as several nieces and nephews. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings: Mark Ulrich and Terry Beaman. Sharon enjoyed playing music, working, and rock hunting. She loved her restaurant, customers, and her family. Sharon had a strong faith and enjoyed doing devotions and spending time with the Lord. She loved to spend time with her grandkids and the quiet times visiting and rock hunting at Lake Superior. She was a very charitable, humble woman who gave without expecting anything in return. She will be missed. A graveside service was held on Friday, September 3 in Grandville, Michigan.
