“FILLED WITH THE

#2 – The Holy Spirit series

“They saw what seemed to be tongues of f re that separated and came to rest on each of them All of them were filled with the Holy Spir it ”

By Rev Dan Minor - revdminor1945@gmail com

The Day of Pentecost was one of the most dramatic and pivotal days in the histor y of redemption It inaugurated a new age the age of the Holy Spir it which we are yet in The Old Testament is about the Covenant God made with God’s people (Genesis 12:1-3) The Gospel accounts (Matthew, Mar k, Luke, John) are the record of the ear thly ministr y of Jesus, God’s Son The Book of Acts is the histor y of how God, the Holy Spir it, for med the church to carr y on His wor k

The disciples were in shock when Jesus talked about leaving them Yet He promised He would not leave them as or phans for the Holy Spir it would come to them (John 14:8) He added that it was necessar y for Him to leave, so the Holy Spir it could come (John 16:7) The promise was dramatically fulfilled on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2), commonly known as the Bir thday of the Church The sound of a mighty wind, tongues of fire, and speaking in tongues were all signs of the Holy Spir it’s presence The lasting significance of Pentecost was that ever y known nation, for the first time, heard the Gospel of Jesus Chr ist in their own native language

Being filled with the Holy Spir it is a mandate, not a request (Ephesians 5:18) The infilling is God-given, not man-dr iven His indwelling presence is not for self-edification, but for the glor y of God Like that early band of Apostles, the mission is the same today – to make Christ known to the ends of the ear th

I love the stor y of the old preacher who visited

Methodism’s founder, John Wesley, was conver ted to Chr ist That was the beginning of the movement of God’s Spir it that began a wor ldwide revival As the gentleman sat in the exact place where Wesley sat, he bowed his head and prayed, “Lord, do it again!” The good news is that God is doing again in the hear ts of those who tr uly believe

Never underestimate the power of God to change lives The Holy Spir it is alive! The only question is whether or not He is alive in us!

Prayer: Dear Lord, fill us with Your Holy Spir it In Your strong name and for Your glor y Amen

Maybe giving someone all your love is never an assurance that they will love you back Don't expect love in return; just wait for it to grow in their heart; but, if it doesn't, be content that it grew in yours

Hospitality is at the heart of Christianity It is not really about baking cupcakes, home décor, or channeling your inner Martha Stewart; Christian hospitality is not simply opening up your home, but opening up your heart to people Christians are called to love, serve, and value all people in ways that convince them of their great worth in God’s eyes Why? Because that’s what Jesus did

It’s one thing to offer hospitable love to friends and family, or to people who can repay the favor by helping you in some way But Jesus tended to offer hospitality to the ostracized outcasts of his culture, namely sinners such as prostitutes and tax collectors Jesus was often sharing meals with the “riff raff” of his day In the ancient world, sharing a meal was less about the food and more about the friendship To share a meal with someone was a way of saying, “This person is my friend ” Jesus was called a “Friend of Sinners” because he ate with them The religious leaders meant that as an insult, but Jesus took it as a compliment Romans 5:8 reads “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us When we were enemies and strangers to God, he offered hospitable love, befriending us through the extravagant sacrifice of Christ on the cross And here’s the catch: What God does for us he wants to do through us In other words he wants us to offer hospitality to all people, to make all people feel welcome and wanted because he made us feel welcome and wanted long before we welcomed and wanted him

Jesus didn’t establish the church to be a sanitized, sterilized pristine crystal cathedral for perfect people, but a hospitable hospital where messy people in messy situations can bring their mess to Jesus so he can turn their mess into a message of his gracious love How’s that for hospitality!

Jesus loves you, Pastor Lenny Luchetti
