Girls and boys basketball players donning CLS uniforms form a wonderful gallery of photos in this week’s edition of Christian Life School @Play. The Top Photos section includes boys and girls varsity players, plus boys junior varsity cagers.

A number of CLS athletes stood out in recent competitions. Headlining the Top Performers section of this week’s edition of the digital magazine are JV wrestlers Ryan Baird, Chris Gelin and Ryan Zierk; girls varsity basketball players Haley Johnson and Brie Tennyson; and boys basketball players Matt Pitt, Sam Brekke and Melvin Pitt.

Former CLS basketball players to

School alumni basketball games are usually reserved for the collegiate level. At the major college level, a pair of teams, made up of alumni, go at it on the hardwood, with fans paying an admission fee to watch. The event can be used as a revenue generator on gate receipts, not to mention bringing in those who have gone on to successful business ventures in an effort to entice them to re-connect with their university on the financial plane. A pair of alumni basketball games will be played at the Christian Life School gymnasium Friday, Dec. 23, but without all the hype and underlying motives of the college circuit. The women’s game will take place at 6:30 p.m., followed by the men’s contest at 7:30 p.m. The plan is to have an alumni-versusalumni game, but if not enough former CLS basketball players participate, then the current Eagles team will take on their predecessors.

Krass, who has worn many different coaching hats at the school. Krass is currently the head varsity girls basketball coach. “This event keeps our alums involved and gives them a reason to re-connect with their high school.”

Many former players are looking forward to the pre-Christmas event, including Kevin Black, who graduated in 2009.

“Alan Krass is an awesome guy and it’s great that he is putting this together,” said Black. “It’s a great way for us all to get together and News of the alumni game has get back in touch. I had a great excirculated via word of mouth and mass emails. Krass said it would be perience at Christian Life and now helpful to receive RSVPs in order to we can see where each other is at gauge how many former players to these days. We’ll spend quality time prepare for. Players can just show together while playing some ball.” up on the 23rd and be ready to play, Two brothers attending Arizona too. State University have returned to Wisconsin for Christmas vacation and are eagerly anticipating playing in the game.

“My high school always had an alumni game even though it is more of a college thing, so we are taking a page out of that. We did it with girls soccer here, and there were a lot of positives,” said CLS Athletic Director Alan Charles Crawford - Class of 2011 4 CLS@Play Digital Magazine I Issued December 21, 2011

“I think it’s going to be the coolest thing that happens on Dec. 23,” said ASU junior Jake Crawford, an economics major. “I’m down to play. It’ll be a lot of fun. If not enough alumni return, I’ll enjoy playing against the current varsity because I want to beat them.” Charles Crawford, who led the Eagles in scoring last season, is a freshman finance major at ASU. “It will be a lot of fun regardless of whether we play against other alumni or against the current varsity team,” he said. “I haven’t been back to the school yet

return to the school for alumni games Dec. 23 Women’s game will precede men’s game at Christian Life School gym since graduating, so it will be nice to see old friends.”

“This is great because it takes a lot of people who are now removed from the program and brings them back in,” said McComb, who graduated in 2005. “When I was playing, I remember having a game against the alums and it was a lot of fun and the alums had as much fun as we did.”

Charles said he has kept in shape since graduating and should have no problem navigating the court at full speed. “I play basketball at least two to three times a week at ASU and we go real hard. I’ve learned that you don’t win games shooting, you win games in the post.”

“Hopefully, the alums enjoyed their time in school here,” summed up Krass. “They’ll hang out after the game and eat some pizza. I’m sure there will be a lot of stories told and catching up to do. I’m really looking forward to it.”

Krass says there is a fellowship which extends across the graduating classes at CLS. Certainly, this is an advantage with a smaller school. Jon McComb was not in the CLS basketball program at the same time as Black, yet he will share the court with him on the 23rd.

Anyone who has not played basketball at CLS is invited to come and watch.

CLS wins road encounter at Faith Christian The Christian Life girls varsity basketball team took to the road to face Faith Christian Dec. 13. The Eagles took home a 43-24 victory. “We played a slow and sluggish game early,” admitted Eagles head coach Alan Krass. “They played a triangle-and-two matching up with (Brie) Tennyson and (Haley) Johnson to try to slow them. Once we started to move the ball, we were able to work it around for good shots.”

Haley Johnson doesn’t let a defender get in the way of her pass.

Brie Tennyson leaps over a pair of Faith Christian defenders to get her shot off.

TOP Performers

Brie Tennyson and Haley Johnson each scored 13 points to lead the Eagles to a 43-24 victory at Faith Christian Dec. 13.
