Como No, as well as being the producer of the La Linea festival since its inception in 2001, promotes a year round programme of the best of music and dance of Latin origin and other things we like. In 2012 we have produced an extensive European tour by Danza Contemporanea de Cuba, who perform in the UK from the end of this month, and shows by Los Van Van, Amadou & Mariam, Orchestra Baobab and Baloji. In July we are producing Ondatropíca for the British Council, the band brings together the best of old school Discos Fuentes era Colombian musicians with a younger generation under the musical direction of Quantic and Mario Galeano of Frente Cumbiero with performances at Hackney Empire on July 20 and as part of BT River of Music at the Tower of London on July 22. Other summer highlights will feature in Vamos – our online and in print guide to London’s Latin summer produced with Jungle Drums. On Saturday November 3 we present the long awaited return of Oscar D’Leon and his full Venezuelan band in London’s autumn salsa event at the Roundhouse. Have you seen and heard our story wheel? La Linea - The London Latin Music Festival presents
‘A Story Of Latin Music In London’
A fascinating virtual slide show depicting 70 years of the capital’s love affair with Latin music. Narrated by Mark Coles, of BBC Radio 4 Today Programme, and using the innovative Soundcloud Labs Story Wheel application. Starting in the 1940s with Cuban bandleader Don Marino Barretto performing to pilots on Salisbury Plain before the Battle of Britain, moving into the 1950s with Edmundo Ros teaching then-Princess Elizabeth and her sister Margaret to dance. From Gilberto Gil’s time spent in political exile in London and Héctor Lavoe performing his first ever London show in a packed pub in 1975, to the present day, maybe it’s because I’m a Londoner that I love Latin Music so.
WRASSE RECORDS Brazilian singer-songwriter and actor Seu Jorge has released his new album Musica Para Churrasco. This is his party album of pure funk rooted in the 1970s, and one of the strongest records that Jorge has produced. One of Brazil’s most important leading team of singers for decades along with the other rebellious ‘tropicalistas’ such as Caetano Veloso & Gilberto Gil... Recanto is her brand new album and a labour of love by Caetano Veloso, who has written all of the songs. ALSO AVAILABLE THE DEFINITIVE COLLECTIONS Already released: Milton Nascimento & Mercedes Sosa Soon to be released: Caetano Veloso & Jorge Ben
