The life of a real estate agent is not merely spent in negotiations and open houses. This is especially true for Compass agents. Here, agents dream big. They are restaurateurs, neighbors, entrepreneurs, parents, philanthropists, community activists, do-gooders, thought-leaders, and above all — dreamers.

It is this undeniable devotion to community that could easily transform their titles from real estate agents to community champions. Being woven into the fabric of that neighborhood and having a finger on the pulse of what's happening there is critical to doing our job for our clients,” Kat Barry says. Both a vegan cookbook author and environmental activist, Barry uses her passion for the rich communities and neighborhoods of Chicago to guide her clients home.

Community is also the uncharted territory of belonging — the feeling of familiarity and peace that can only be described as home. For Anne Fan, soon-to-be coffee-shop owner and real estate agent, her newest venture places emphasis on belonging. When she is not finding her client’s perfect place, she is diligently working to create a space that combines tranquility of home with a New World delight — freshly brewed coffee. “I feel so strongly about creating a space where no matter your path, you can come in and be present,” Fan says. How they give back is just as important as why they do it. “People have been helping me for a long time by pushing me and pulling me up, it’s only right that I pay it forward. If you’re not part of the solution then you’re part of the problem,” DeVon Chandler, local humanitarian and real estate agent, asserts.
