Gift Wrapping Ideas THE VALUE OF A GIFT DOES NOT ALWAYS LIE IN THE COST OF THE ITEM ITSELF. A SIMPLE GIFT CAN BE SO ELEVATED BY SPECIAL WRAPPING. IMAGES AND IDEAS BY ELIZABETH KELLY OF ELK PRINTS. It's the thought that counts they say. It's true. But what better way to make that thought extra special by adding a unique touch to your gifts? Gift wrapping, and giving, like parties are a perfect opportunity of creative expression in our otherwise dreary lives, and makes your recipient feel oh so extra special! Elizabeth Kelly, an artist and owner of party stationery business Elk Prints, was kind enough to give us some of her tips for personalising gifts.
12
Firstly, use kraft or white art paper for your wrap. It's blank and much more cost effective! For the brown paper, we have used the parcel wrapping paper from Officeworks, it's perfect for it. For embellishment, keep it easy by layering lots of ribbons of different sizes and textures. Another idea is to decorate your gift with beautiful foliage or flowers. Painting directly onto the paper to make your own style of wrapping paper. is another idea.
ELIZABETH'S GIFT DRIP DIY Why not design your own wrapping paper? You too, can create something unique like this gift wrapping drip DIY! You'll need white art paper (you can find this at Officeworks, Riot Art & Craft or a dollar store), a brush of your choice and some high flow acrylic paint. As the paint comes in a bottle, it is rather easy to create the drip effect on the edge. Just make sure you've put some paper down to control the mess! Once that is dry, you can then go over it with the brush and create strokes of your choice. Voila! Your very own gift wrap design!

Sausage Dog Winter Cookies THE PARTY PROJECT HAS CAPTIVATED INSTAGRAM ALL YEAR WITH THE CUTEST SWEET TREATS AND SALLY BRUCE, THE NAME BEHIND THE FEED HAS GIVEN US AN ADORABLE DIY TO TRY. 1. Roll out your cookie dough and cut out your dogs with the cookie cutter remembering to dip the cutter in corn flour in between so it doesn’t stick. Chill the cookies on their tray in the fridge for ten minutes prior to baking so they keep their shape. Bake the cookies and let them cool. 2. Roll some fondant onto your knitting weave mould. Carefully peel it off. If it is sticking, dust the mould with some icing sugar and start again. 3. Using a sharp knife cut out some little clothes for the dogs. A scarf, hat, coat and a collar. Use the cookie cutter as a guide for sizes. 4. Once the cookies are cooled, its time to ice. Prepare some royal icing in a bowl, enough to cover the cookies. Mix it to a toothpaste like consistency. Add a little brown food colouring. Pop it into an icing bag and then line the cookies to create a dam for the thinner icing not to leak out.
7
5. Empty the leftover contents your icing bag into a bowl and add a little water. I just add a sprinkle at a time as it doesn’t take much. This will thin out your icing to a shampoo like consistency. As you are using the same icing the colour will match perfectly and disguise the dam. Pop your icing into a new icing bag and ice the cookies inside the dam, using a toothpick to get rid of any bubbles. 6. Now you can dress your dogs with the cute outfits you have made! If you have made a collar, add a silver cachous. Let the icing dry. It can take several hours. 7. Make some darker brown royal icing to the thicker toothpaste consistency. Pop it into an icing bag and pipe on the nose and the ear. 8. Using a small paintbrush and edible art paint finish off your dogs by adding the eyes! There you have some very cute winter sausage dogs.

A ChristmasHigh Tea Fairy Tale A ROYAL FAIRY TALE CHRISTMAS PARTY FIT FOR LITTLE PRINCES AND PRINCESSES! BY AMY SALES OF GLASS SLIPPER ENTERTAINMENT.
Why should grown-ups always get the fun Christmas parties?
The tea party theme goes perfectly with our princesses and brings so much elegance to it. We decided to hold this shoot at a very secret location (a local elderly couple’s back garden) as it was intimate and stunning; perfect for our theme. We paired this shoot with just a few simple present props, a lolly table, tea party and a few baubles.
Welcome to the fairy tale Christmas party. What a wonderful way to kick start the holiday season! Gather the children, set up a high tea table, invite some special friends and off we go! Too often we see the traditional Christmas of red and green, The location was the main prop with the gorgeous so we wanted to show the beauty of Christmas in modern colours. The scheme for this party was white archway of flowers, hedges and water fountain. Definitely a feeling of being in a land far far away! and gold, with pastel colours.

A RUSTIC AUSSIE CHRISTMAS WRITE OFF WINTER AND CELEBRATE THE SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE CHRISTMAS SPIRIT WITH THIS LOOK BY ANNA HOGBIN OF MAMA BEAR'S KITCHEN.
I've spent many Christmas seasons silently wondering how to reclaim the essence of an Australian Christmas while being bombarded with a tirade of unseasonal paraphernalia inspired by the Northern winter.
the dresser. I propped up two old window frames picked up from the tip shop and street rubbish collection. Using tartan checked ribbon, I tied three iced gingerbread cookie rings to the glass panel.
Snowflake tree decorations, Frosty the Snowman and delicious hot chocolate drinks might evoke thoughts of Christmas for our northern neighbours, but surely, I reasoned, there must be a way to express the joy of the season while embracing our natural beauty, vibrant colours and golden sunshine, preferably without resorting to putting Santa on a surfboard, or heaven help us, in board shorts.
While I cringe at the tacky snow inspired decorations filling our stores, there are some traditional elements of Christmas I chose to include in my display. To me, Christmas is not Christmas without gingerbread cookies, reindeer, rosemary springs and tartan checks. In keeping with the colour scheme, the tartan ribbons matched perfectly.
It is with these thoughts rattling away in my mind that I was prompted to style a Christmas dessert table which reflects our unique Australian beauty, while still holding onto the traditional elements that we all love. The theme was undoubtedly inspired by a gorgeous sideboard I own with vintage hot air balloons painted along the front. The colours of ruby red, Christmas tree green and golden yellow became the chosen palette for the entire display. These hues were also reflected in the vibrant native flowers, herbs and summer blooms used. I started by gathering vintage props and tins from my collection, to use as risers and cake stands, giving height to the display. Old tool boxes, kitchen scales, checked shortbread tins and vintage thermoses brought cohesion to the colour scheme while also adding points of interest. I wanted to keep the backdrop simple, so as not to compete with the sunshine colour of the wall behind
As the table is quite busy with two generous flower arrangements and vintage props, I wanted to keep the baked elements simple in terms of decoration. Gingerbread cookies were left plain with the exception of a tartan ribbon and a sprig of rosemary or cinnamon stick. Tying ribbon around a stack of gingerbread men makes for an easy and very cute Christmas gift. A naked gingerbread cake was adorned with two adorable deer and an abstract cookie Christmas tree. To give the cake a woodland feel, I put rosemary, yellow daisies and gum nuts behind the deer and sprinkled star anise, crushed cinnamon sticks and dried cranberries at their feet. Let me tell you, the cake smelled amazing! The star of the show was the tall red velvet cake decorated with dried orange slices and star anise, placed around the white chocolate buttercream frosting. This is an easy, yet stunning way to decorate any cake and suits the Christmas theme beautifully (continued overleaf).
21
(cont.) Cupcakes were also decorated with gingerbread star cookies tied with string or gold dusted cherries and edible gold stars, for a bit of Christmas magic. It did not escape my notice that there is a strong green and golden yellow accent throughout the table. In keeping with my desire to create an Aussie themed display, I felt these elements, along with the addition of ruby red to keep it all in the spirit of Christmas, helped bring together a richly coloured, bright and joyful dessert table, perfect for our Australian Summer.

CARLY STEVENSON OF SASSY SNAPS PLUS SHOWS OFF HER CHRISTMAS STYLE WITH THIS BLUSHIN' BRUNCH AND BUBBLY HOLIDAY LUNCH WITH GIRLFRIENDS.
I love hosting my girlfriends over for a Christmas celebration and blush is currently my favourite trending colour (I’ve even decorated my house in blush tones). Hence the theme of this party! Elements featured in this event include the balloon garland, mimosa bar cart, dessert buffet, and my favourite feature; the blushing Christmas tree.

All of the food was made - I didn’t make a thing. Our brunch of quiche Lorraine, Caesar salad and potato salad was pre-made by Woolworths for a quick and easy serving along with fresh rolls. I highly recommend this for anyone who either doesn’t have time, can’t be bothered, or doesn’t know how to cook (me)! Inspiration for the colour scheme for this event came from my house. We recently moved and I was finally able to decorate from scratch and I wanted to go with blush tones, and as a result I wanted our Christmas to
Our dinnerware featured gold cutlery and gold charger plates with pink plates. Kmart also released brand new pink and gold drink-ware which was featured on this table setting. I know every Christmas party features those paper crowns that you pop out of Christmas crackers, but I wanted something more magical for this event so I asked Liz from Schooza Handmade to craft some adult sized Reindeer crowns (in rose gold of course). My guests loved these as a keepsake instead of the paper crowns that usually wind up in the bin on the way out.

PARTY TALK
Shop Talk; Christmas & New Year WE CHAT TO SOME OF OUR PARTY FRIENDS ABOUT CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR. WHAT IS YOUR SIGNATURE DISH? "My favourite Christmas recipe is a festive salad in green, red and white. Start with quartered baby chat potatoes, celery, cherry red tomatoes, cranberries, mint leaves and marinated chèvre or goats cheese balls as a base. Usually I layer in a few other things as well, depending on where my inspiration for the year takes me. Always looks colourful and Christmassy and goes well as a side dish to whatever turkey, ham or prawns are being served".
ELIZABETH, ELK PRINTS "My signature Christmas dish would have to be Rocky Road. I can’t have Christmas without making some delicious, nutty, chewy, marshmallowy homemade rocky road!"
ANNA, MAMA BEARS' KITCHEN YOUR NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS?
"I want to learn 3 new things that will help me develop my skills, so I plan to undertake a few courses."
MARIA, CONFETTI FAIR 40
"Take the time to recharge, exercise and spend time with people I love"
SHANNON, TYPOFLORA "I am going to spend more time playing with alternative techniques to further my skills and also just to enjoy creating new designs"!
CAITLIN, A LITTLE CAKE PLACE "Mine is to live by the motto 'you can do anything but not everything'"
AMY SALES - GLASS SLIPPER ENTERTAINMENT WHAT ARE YOUR FAVE TRADITIONS?
"I love Christmas Eve with my extended family, where we indulge in the more traditional Christmas elements, such as baked ham and bonbons, compared to the Greek style lamb on the spit on Christmas Day".
ESTHER, CONFETTI FAIR
All the best for the holidays, 2019 and beyond! Love from Confetti Fair
