There is POWER in your PERSISTENCE! Jessica Williams, Assistant Editor
Sometimes, as Christians, we tend to be impatient and want things on our own schedule, instead of waiting on the Lord and trusting Him and His timing. At times, we honestly feel like we are so deserving of it all and should not have to work for anything. And that, is a shame. We make the constant mistake of thinking that just because we say we love the Lord and receive Him as our Lord and Savior, that there should not be any work involved to validate our words; we shouldn’t walk what we talk. The Bible clearly states that “Faith without works is DEAD!” It also says in 2 Thessalonians 3:10 that if a man does not work, he does not eat. You must put in the work and show that you really desire what the Lord has in store for you. You should be PERSISTENT in all that you do in life, especially whatever you do for God. He knows the exact moment when you can truly appreciate that blessing you have been longing for and use that blessing for the ultimate edification of His kingdom. You can go back into the Old Testament and see how God blessed those who had powerful persistence. For instance, Joseph. He was sold into slavery by his own brothers and put in jail behind false accusations, but he ultimately ended up being the one who would save his people. He remained persistent in his faith even when it seemed like there was nothing left for him. Job became ill, lost everything he had, and even his wife told him to curse God and die. He remained persistent in his faith and told his wife that “Although he slay me, yet will I trust Him.” God not only restored everything that Job lost, but gave him TWICE as much! That is a true example of how powerful your persistence can be! There are many people in the Bible who are examples of powerful persistence, such as Moses, Gideon, Jabez, Peter, and those are just a couple. Imagine what God would do in our lives if we remained persistent in our walk with Him? We couldn’t thank Him enough for all of those blessings, even if we had ten thousand tongues! He wants to bless us and give us the desires of our hearts, but we must have power in our persistence! -8-

Dr. Martin Luther King Parade Foundation, Inc.
SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
“Give 29 to Help Build Strong Minds” The Dr. Martin Luther King Parade Foundation, Inc. has established the “Give 29 to Help Build Strong Minds” Scholarship Program. In honor of the 298th year anniversary of the City of Tampa’s Martin Luther King Day Parade, the Foundation is soliciting minimum $29 contributions from all who want to contribute. College costs are increasingly out of reach for far too many deserving students and a college education has endured as a major key to success. A $29 contribution allows donors big and small to make a difference in the future of our young achievers of tomorrow. Our theme: “I Live the Dream, I Give $29 to Help Build Strong Minds!”
Local Non-Profit Dr. King was a staunch supporter of education for all and the Foundation wants to honor his dream by doing the same. This program is also consistent with the Foundation’s mission of ensuring lasting positive community impact stemming from the parade. The Foundation is pleased to announce this year’s Scholarship Chair in Mrs. Gwen Myers. She along with Honorary Chairpersons Ms. Tamara Shamburger, Hillsborough County School Board Member, Mr. Bob Conigliaro, VP of Community Relations Caspers Company McDonald’s and her committee will be working diligently with local schools and organizations vetting qualified applicants. Community service hours are also part of the scholarship application criteria. Moreover, the scholarship awardees have an established track record for service as a prerequisite. Larger contributions are of course welcome but your $29 will go a long way to helping us reach our goals. Awardees going forward will receive a special MLK Commemorative Gift and be announced at our soon to be annual Parade Gala preceding the parade in January. Our Annual Gala will be Thursday, January 11, 2018 where we officially award the 2018 scholarship recipients and other programs. Please make your contribution today! MLK Commemorative Gifts $29. - MLK Arm Band $129. - MLK T-Shirt $229. - MLK Print $329. - MLK Gala Ticket (1) $429. - MLK Gala Tickets (1) and Patron Listing $529. - MLK Gala Tickets (2) Note: For each additional $100 donation over $529, a Gala ticket will be awarded. Donate now To make your donation online, visit our Facebook page at Dr. Martin Luther King Parade Foundation “Go Fund Me” campaign, or mail your check payable to Dr. Martin Luther King Parade Foundation, 5508 N. 50 th Street, Suite 28, Tampa, FL 33610.
The Dr. Martin Luther King Parade Foundation, Inc., a 501(c)3 non-profit, was formed in the year 2014 for the expressed purposes of expanding, improving and strengthening efforts to make the City of Tampa’s Martin Luther King Day Parade an event the city could be proud of year after year. Founder and Foundation President Robert Scott Jr. started his involvement with planning and implementing the city’s annual parade as a city employee and key member of the City of Tampa-Hillsborough County Employees MLK Memorial Scholarship Fund organization. Upon his retirement from the city, and with the encouragement of former parade organizers, Mr. Scott took over the coordination of all parade activities and started the Parade Foundation to provide a permanent infrastructure for planning and funding the parade, while building an organization that would be capable of putting on an outstanding event on a consistent basis.

Drisdom The Drisdom Family's Favorite Scriptures and/or Hymns are: Abe (Jay) Drisdom, Sr. Psalms 23
Ava Drisdom Psalms 23 Abriana (Bri) Drisdom Because of who you are Abe (AJ) Drisdom, Jr. Psalms 51; I Surrender All The Family that prays together, stays together. I'm sure I am not the only person who has heard this saying, and if you attend First Union or visited, you have seen Abe Sr., Ava, Abriana and Abe Jr. ... the DRISDOM FAMILY... praying together! The Drisdom’s originally joined First Union Missionary Baptist Church under former pastor, Sylvester Robinson. After leaving First Union and seeking a Church home, they decided to return and become active members. The family will be celebrating their 5th year of membership this year and are definitely holding true to their decision to not only rejoin the Church, but to become active as well. Upon returning to First Union, the Drisdom's rolled up their collective sleeves and began serving. Abe, who goes by 'Jay', is a member of several ministries. He currently serves as the Secretary of the Male Chorus, member of the Board of Trustees, a member of the Missionary Society (Mission Ministry), and is 'on call' with the Drama

Ministry. Like, her husband, Ava is also very active in ministry work. She currently serves as the Assistant Secretary for the Greeters Ministry. She also serves, alongside her husband, Jay, as a member of the Missionary Society (Mission Ministry). Anyone who has been fortunate to have seen 'Faith In Motion', you have definitely been blessed to see Abriana (Bri) bless us through dance. She also serves with her mother as a member of the Greeters Ministry, currently serving as the ministry's Secretary. Bri also participates with the Drama Ministry. Although he is away at college, he is not too far away that we don't get to see the youngest member of the Drisdom family, Abe, Jr... better known as AJ. AJ is also a member of the Greeters Ministry and participates with the Drama Ministry as needed. The Drisdoms are a very close, tight-knit family. Abe and Ava have been together for 33 years and recently celebrated their 25th Wedding Anniversary on May 8th 2018.
Siblings, Bri & AJ, share a close bond.
The Drisdoms are native Floridians; Abe hails from Vero Beach, Ava is from Ocala, while Bri & AJ are Tampa born and raised. The family currently resides in Tampa, EXCEPT for their three other children. That's right, there are actually five Drisdom children! Harold lives in Cold Spring, NY; Takena in Bainbridge, GA; and Donte lives right here in Wesley Chapel, FL.
Both Bri and AJ are enrolled in school with Bri attending HCC and AJ attending South Florida State College Avon Park, currently in his sophomore year. Bri just obtained her Associates of Science Degree on May 4 th. Congratulations, Bri!

Gone, But Not Forgotten ... Gwendolyn Yvonne Sanders Sympathies are extended to the family of First Union's longtime member, SISTER GWENDOLYN YVONNE SANDERS. Sister Sanders crossed over into immortality on Saturday, April 28, 2018. Her home church, First Union MBC, is where family and friends gathered to comfort each other at the Wake held on Friday, May 4, from 5:00-7:00pm. Mourners returned the next day at 11:00am for her Homegoing Service , where the Rev. B.E. Garmon, Sr. officiated. After the Interment, (Orange Hill Cemetery), family and friends were received in the C.J. Long Fellowship Hall for the Repast. Along with her First Union Family, Sister Sanders leaves her sister Jean Harrison, niece Patrice Hopkins, and god-daughter, Yvonne Cook, to cherish her precious memories. Gone, But Not Forgotten...Annie Payne
One day with the Lord is the same as a thousand years, and a thousand years to us is just as one day to God! Man marvels at his time on earth, 70, 80, 90 or more years, as if it is some great accomplishment; but God says man’s life is nothing but a vapor that quickly vanishes away! We come forth in the morning as a flower, and ‘before’ the evening comes, we have already faded away.
It is with a somber heart that I write to inform you that the will of God has supersede the life of man and He has reclaimed yet another soul from the land of the dying to the land of the Living! On Friday May 11, at the tender young age of 93, Sis. Annie Payne was called from labor to reward. She has received her Crown of Glory which God has promised to all those who live for Him!
Annie Payne was born on April 15, 1925 in Tallahas-
see, Florida to the late Eunice McCray, Sr. and Geneva Brown, and was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Payne. Sister Payne was a member of First Union M.B. Church and loved making people laugh. She enjoyed cooking, decorating, and spending time with family and friends. Sister Payne was called home on May 11, 2018. Her Homegoing Service was held on Saturday, May 19, 2018, at 2:00 with Pastor B.E. Garmon, Sr. officiat-

Connie Williams to her mother, Yvonne
Pavonne' Scott to all the Mothers in her life
There are just no words that can express just what you mean to me, so I'll just say 'I love you, Ma'. Happy Mother's Day!
Happy Mothers Day to all the Mothers in my life. You mean so much to me.
Carla Garmon to her daughter, Erica
Happy Mother's day to all the mothers and a special shout out to my beautiful daughter, Erica. I'm so proud of you. Love, Mommy
Jessica Williams to her mother, Connie Happy Mother’s Day to my bestie, my ride or die, the woman who has molded me and shaped me to be the young woman I am today. Ma, I tell you everyday that I love you but today, not only do I want to say that but I also want to say I’m thankful for you. Some people are not as fortunate as I am to have their mother, especially a mother who is as caring, loving, hard working, and God fearing as you. My loudest cheerleader, my hardest critic, my most trustworthy confidant, the list goes on and on .... I could literally write a book on how absolutely awesome you are!! I’m not y’all, I’m not lol. It’s easy to honor, respect, and cherish ones dear to you when they are gone, but as long as we’re here together, you will know, everyday how much I’m thankful for your gorgeous self! Love you Queen!!!
Jessica Williams to her grandmother, Yvonne Happy Mother’s Day to this beautiful woman right here. If you ever spent any kind of time with her, she has truly been a blessing in your life. She loves with everything in her. Her caring spirit is indescribable. Her smile can turn anyone’s dim day, bright. She loves the Lord, she loves her family. Grandma, you are such a gem. The love you give/show me, the wisdom and knowledge you pass down to me, the strength you exhibit, each and every day, is absolutely remarkable. I can’t truly express in words how honored I am, not only to know you, but to be part of you. Being your granddaughter is something I will never take for granted. It’s a joy to be around you and to have such a special, close bond with you! You are ALWAYS there for me. I know that if anyone else in this world doesn’t love me, my mom and YOU do! I’m forever thankful for you!!
