PUBLISHER’S LETTER

YOU ARE INVITED! I

am so excited to share with you the November issue of Conscious Community Magazine which is full of the love, acceptance, appreciation and gratitude that November is all about!

Last month I attended the wonderful Women Yoga and Breath Detox Retreat run by Sylwia Domagala, to work on myself and to recharge my batteries to better serve this community. During those three days, of yoga, breath work, great food and conversations, I realized how much we need each other to grow, not only as humans but also to grow as a collective consciousness. Also, this experience showed me how nourishing, healing, transforming and uplifting God/Higher Power is when we allow ourselves to heal our wounds. I have recently received many calls from readers telling me how grateful they are that they have found Conscious Community Magazine and how much they appreciate the like-minded people they’ve met through this community. I am grateful for all your feedback that I get from you, even though in many of these conversations, readers end up crying and smiling at the same time. You are never alone!

KATARZYNA (KASIA) SZUMAL PUBLISHER

We are living in the era of technology and social media which is supposed to connect us like never before, but statistics show us something different. We are more depressed and lonelier than we have ever been before. We are body, mind and spirit in one body; working on all of those parts makes us whole, connected and one with everything. On this note of connection, I would like to invite you to the Conscious Community Holiday Party that will be on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at 5 pm at EQUILIBRIUM
Energy + Education,
850 S. Wabash Ave., Suite 300, Chicago, IL 60605. It is a potluck-style party with great music, gifts and great conversation. No alcohol. Let’s mix and mingle and celebrate all of us in those last days of 2019! Please RSVP by Thursday, November 28, 2019
by phone 847-966-1110, or email to Info@ConsciousCommunityMagazine.com. On Thursday, Nov. 28, we will be celebrating Thanksgiving in the US. It is the time of year when we gather around the table and share food with family members and friends. It is a time of year when we express gratitude for the things we have and the experiences that we’ve gone through this past year. Gratitude is a very powerful action—which we can take every day of our lives—that brings us closer to the things we want. By saying, “Thank you,” we are letting the Universe or God/ Goddess/Higher Power know that we love our lives, and we want more good things to happen. For more about gratitude, read Sandy Daliege’s article The Universe Is Grateful for You. Enjoy the November issue and see you at the Conscious Community Holiday Party! Happy Thanksgiving! focusing more, forgiving yourself, becoming confident—you now have an internal conflict. What you want is not what you know or what you are used to. You’re trying to use an application that you don’t have installed. Your conscious mind acts as a barrier to the subconscious. So, when you make a conscious decision to change something about yourself, your behavior, or your life that change is rarely completely adopted right away. Change has to be accepted by the subconscious to make it a habit or a belief. During hypnosis (your heightened state of focus and awareness) one can directly ‘speak’ to the subconscious mind to increase the likelihood of and decrease the time that it takes for a new way of being to become one’s new normal way of being. In this course you will learn about: • Our mind’s storage system, the subconscious. • What motivates us to behave the way we do. • How our stored habits and beliefs run our lives. • What hypnosis is.

Self-Hypnosis Workshop Saturday, Dec. 14, 2019, 12 p.m. The mind is like a computer. Like the applications on your computer, your subconscious is where your habits, beliefs, memories and tendencies/behaviors are stored for when needed and where they stay when not being used. Most of what you do is based upon what you already know, what you have already done, as well as what you already believe—what you have stored. However, when you make the conscious decision to better any area of your life—quitting smoking, eating better,

[COMMUNITY Q&A]

ASK ALECIA by Alecia Rice

Q: I attended a wedding of an acquaintance of my partner. We helped with wedding setup, donated money to defray expenses, and I even sent a message afterward thanking them for including me in their special day, with no acknowledgment. Later, a thank you card arrived, addressed solely to my partner with no mention of me. I feel like I’ve been ignored and I’m not sure what to do with my hurt feelings. — Wedding Blues A: Dear Wedding Blues, My guess is that the lack of acknowledgment speaks more to a lack of presence due to intense wedding planning and the exhale from it being over, instead of a slight directed at you, but we can consider some other things. In Don Miguel Ruiz’s book, The Four Agreements, one of the agreements is “Don’t Take Anything Personally.” Anything that others say or do (or don’t do) is a projection of their own reality. This one small concept is huge in holding our own space which can alleviate symptoms of perceiving ourselves as victims. When taking things personally, I invite people to play the “What if…?” game, which encourages searching the landscape for other possibilities as to why that person may have reacted that way for counterbalance. An example would be, “What if...they didn’t realize ALL that I did in support of their special day?” For many, wedding day details can become a blur because it’s

packed with so much excitement and so many people. Confusing situations can cause our pain body to rise up, which causes us to view people’s non-actions through a painful, twisted lens that confirms why we’re not enough. “What if..?” can help neutralize the pain of feeling that one has been slighted by considering other possible explanations that aren’t personal. This can be an effective exercise for people who are insecure about their value to others. It can assuage “less than” feelings by understanding that there are many things that could have caused another to overlook our contributions. One might also ask the question, “Would I have done anything differently if I knew I wouldn’t be acknowledged afterward?” Sometimes this can help unearth realizations about what drives our subconscious decision-making, which can bring clarity to our motivations and subsequent disappointment. One last suggestion comes from another of The Four Agreements: “Don’t Make Assumptions.” This beckons us to find the courage to ask questions to clarify circumstances. This helps tamp down issues of self-blame, hurt feelings and needless drama. If there’s something about this situation that you just can’t release, then go to the source to help you with clarity. My guess is that it was a mere oversight. Q: I’m a senior who has drastically changed my beliefs and the way I live over the last several years. My fam-

ily doesn’t understand me and they harshly judge my new ways. How do I deal with this? — Silver Rebel A: Dear Silver Rebel, This reminds me of the delightfully rebellious poem entitled Warning: When I’m an Old Woman I Shall Wear Purple, where she writes about “making up for the sobriety of her youth.” Please look it up. You just might see yourself in it. My advice is shared in a context where we’re still being responsible and not hurting ourselves or others with the changes we’re making. That said, what a great time in your life to have the courage to change things up to see how they feel! We’re never too old to try new things. Are you happy with your new life? If so, you’re entitled to live in new, unconventional ways. It’s not unusual to reach one’s senior years realizing that much of life has been lived toeing the line to set good examples while meeting the needs of our family, job and community. If we can’t break free of certain beliefs and rules in our senior years, then when can we? I often talk about close relationships being like a dance. Each person becomes accustomed to dancing a certain dance with us based upon who we’ve been. When we change, the dance steps change, which often throws others off because most of us don’t deal with change well—especially with big changes in others close to us. Most of us feel awkward learning new dances, so it’s not unusual for them to try to goad us back into being who we were before so they’re comfortable again. The “dance” may feel awkward for a while until others finally become accustomed to relating to our new ways, so just stay at it. Alecia Rice integrates higher concepts with wisdom to bring forth balance, perspective and clarity. She’s a personal advisor, speaker and gatherer of women. For perspective on life issues, you’re invited to text questions and comments to 681-321-1109. Discussions continue at Ask Alecia on Facebook. CONSCIOUSCOMMUNITYMAGAZINE.COM

[ALL ABOUT TOWN]

EXPLORING YOUR POTENTIAL THROUGH MINDFULNESS ARCHE MEDITATION CENTER OF PURPOSE AND JOY OAK PARK, IL – September 22, 2019 by Theresa Puskar “Let’s dance, let’s shout…shake your body down to the ground.” — The Jackson Five For this month’s column, I attended Sandy Daliege’s one-day workshop on “Exploring Your Potential Through Mindfulness” at the Arche Meditation Center of Purpose and Joy in Oak Sandy Daliege and Theresa Puskar Park. Sandy is a delight! She truly walks her talk and models generous and unabashed positivity that radiates from her soul to all those who are graced with her tutelage. 10

| CONSCIOUS COMMUNITY MAGAZINE NOVEMBER 2019

One of the first experiential exercises that she guided us through was a conversation with our subconscious. Throughout all of my years in the self-empowerment and consciousness-raising industries, I have never been guided as such. The conversation began with a question: “What is your name?” I got an instant response from my subconscious, and thus began a dialogue with her. The second question was, “What would you like to do right now?” This is where Michael Jackson came into play; as the response from my youthful subconscious friend was, “I just want to dance and shout and shake my body down to the ground!” I was delighted and tickled. She was perky and energetic. Of course, once the message was heard, I knew it was important to honor her request. So, during our lunch break, I walked the streets of beautiful Oak Park, headphones planted in my hungry ears, moving to the beat, unabashed and filled with joy, as I became the sixth Jackson for four minutes and four seconds.

“Form a bond of cooperation with your subconscious… Dialogue with her upon awakening each day…Keep your conversation private, and don’t forget to praise her.” — Sandy Daliege While a great deal of transformational information and experiential exercises were shared in the workshop, I was especially delighted with the interplay with my young subconscious-self. Sandy Daliege (right), and her daughter Courtney As I listened to Jackson’s words in the song, I noted one phrase in particular, “I need to do just something to get closer to your soul, and you do know that I want you.” I pondered, “What more can I do to get closer to my soul?” As I ask myself this question, I welcome you to ask the same of yourself. I look forward to dialoguing with and praising her each day, and in doing so, continue to nurture a growing relationship between us. Sometimes making the most basic commitments can raise our spirits and feed our souls. The message I received from her was crystal clear, “Dance, dance and dance some more!” Backtracking a moment to my childhood, I was extremely self-conscious about dancing. In fact, my nickname was “Stiffy.” My inner critic kept me stiff and still for about 50 years. Then I reached that golden age of 50+, where I started doing what I wanted to, irrespective of how ridiculous I looked or what anyone else thought of me. The real shift came when I was participating in the Deepening Process at Oneness University in Chennai, India. An integral part of the experience was a daily celebratory ritual that included several hours of dance and song. They played a plethora of ancient Indian chants, along with Beatles hits, modern gospel and classic rock. It was glorious! I relish the fact that my spirit can join my body in “dancing and shouting” its appreciation for all of the wonders of my being. Freeing my mind of self-judgment and physical awkwardness has been liberating on so many levels! Is there any part of yourself that you have tucked away on the shelf of your subconscious? Is there any joyful practice that you used to do as a child before self-consciousness set in? Perhaps it’s time to grab that “microphone” scrub brush in your shower, or videotape your dinner preparation routine, posing as a worldrenowned Michelin chef. It’s never too late to step out of the box of adulthood and listen to the whisperings of the innocent child that rests within your subconscious. As I looked back on my past, I saw glitter, gleam and light…and I felt deep gratitude!

Another meditation that Sandy guided us through near the end of the workshop was delightful. She took us to the base of a hill, the top of which was not yet visible to us. Before starting our journey upward, she suggested that we look back at the terrain that we were leaving behind. She encouraged us to let go of the jagged rocks and challenging trails of our past. What surprised and delighted me was that when I looked back, I saw no jagged rocks, nor difficult terrain. The landscape I was leaving behind was filled with loads of sparkling shine and glittering wonder. I realized that my past, while at times, challenging, was a huge gift. When I heard the prompt of the “jagged rocks,” I tried to change the scenario I was visualizing, but what came from my subconscious was again, not a rough terrain, but a glorious carnival. There were rollercoasters and plenty of frightening amusement park rides, each, while scary at times, was illuminated with a radiance that was plugged into a sense of excitement, enthusiasm and joy. When is it all enough? When are we satisfied, if ever? I am so grateful for the experiences I have had in my life. It has truly been a glorious ride! The funny thing is that on my birthday this past March, I told my daughter how grateful I was for my amazing life. I explained that if I died tomorrow, which I have no intention of doing, I felt so blessed at the extraordinary life I have led. Her response shocked me into a reality check: “Well, I’d never know you felt that by the way that you speak in your day-to-day life!” I was flabbergasted. I took a deep breath, and then I realized that she was right. While I am so grateful for the delectable life I have led, there is always underlying angst and yearning; a sense of “This is never enough! That was remarkable but now what? Where is my next adventure? When will I achieve…experience… manifest...find…” So, I ask myself, and I encourage you to ask yourself, “When will I, my life, and my experiences be enough?” Will they ever be enough, and is if okay if they are not? Therein lies the quandary. So, I sit, and watch, listen and learn… Theresa Puskar is an author, performer, speaker, minister and motivational audiobook producer. [FROM THE HEART]

TO BOLDLY GO by Alan Cohen

On March 9, 2015, pilot Andre Borschberg lifted his experimental aircraft Solar Impulse 2 from the Abu Dhabi runway. His bold plan: to fly a fully solar-powered airplane around the entire globe without using a drop of fossil fuel. In the stirring documentary, The Impossible Flight, we ride the roller coaster of challenges and triumphs that characterized Solar Impulse 2’s epic journey. While the inventors planned to 12

| CONSCIOUS COMMUNITY MAGAZINE NOVEMBER 2019

make the trip in 12 legs at an airspeed of 45 miles per hour, the fragile craft was continually thwarted by rough weather and equipment malfunctions. The toughest moment came when the lightweight vessel was set to fly its longest leg over the Pacific Ocean from Japan to Hawaii—a grueling five-day trek through adverse weather systems. The pilot had to sit in a fixed position for almost the entire trip, except for occasional 20-minute power naps. As

the flight neared the midway point of no return, the team’s on-ground meteorologists and engineers sadly concluded that the weather ahead was too dangerous and feverishly urged the pilot to turn back. But the pilot refused. “I have a very good feeling we can do it,” he replied and pressed on. After two more harrowing days threading the needle between storms, Borschberg landed safely in Honolulu. SI2 later went on to return to its starting point, 504 days after its departure.

Two different people live in your mind: One is an engineer calculating odds and risks according to known science. The other is the voice of passion, intention and spirit, prone to take leaps of faith beyond known science. Both are important.

Two different people live in your mind: One is an engineer calculating odds and risks according to known science. The other is the voice of passion, intention and spirit, prone to take leaps of faith beyond known science. Both are important. Science helps us understand and maneuver the world we know. Our sense of vision and adventure propels us to go beyond the world we know into more exciting dimensions. The engineer measures probabilities. The spirit is motivated by possibilities. We must honor the engineers who designed that brilliant aircraft that could break records; but if it were up to the engineers alone, the airplane would have turned back and the records would not have been broken. Something within the pilot said, “I can and I will,” which ultimately achieved the goal. The journey to success is like a train ride powered by a steam engine. The tracks guide the train to its chosen destination. The steam propels the train forward. The tracks represent the earthy calculations to stay goal-focused. The steam is the passion to reach the goal. If you have tracks but no steam, the train will not get anywhere. If you have steam but no tracks, the train will bounce around helter-skelter and crash or do damage. To reach your goal, you need steam and tracks. Hunter S. Thompson said (in other words), “the purpose of life is not to arrive safely at death....” Some people spend their lives playing it safe, never launching out into new, exciting and possibly dangerous territory. In the process, they squash and lose their passion; each year they become a little less alive. Benjamin Franklin said, “Many people

die at age 25, and are not buried until they are 75.” Franklin was one of a small group of people who founded a nation on the radical idea that citizens could make choices for themselves rather than letting a monarch control their lives. While we now take democracy for granted, at that time every country was ruled by a king, emperor or czar. It took a huge leap of faith to establish the first modern democracy. The Founding Fathers considered their project a great experiment. They had the courage to boldly go. Thomas Jefferson penned the first draft of the Declaration of Independence when he was just 33 years of age. He could have said, “I’m too young, too inexperienced. This project is bigger than me.” But the vision of a free nation was greater than his personal doubts. He pushed on and initiated one of the most important documents in human history.

2 found himself in that historic journey. That project encountered tremendous adversity, but its innovators persevered until the dream became a reality. So, will you persevere until you fulfill your destiny? Someday, sometime, you will look back on your adventure and recognize it was spirit-guided. At that point, the engineer and the visionary within you will give each other an exuberant high-five and congratulate each other, “Well done!” Alan Cohen is the bestselling author of A Course in Miracles Made Easy. Join Alan and musician Karen Drucker in Hawaii, Dec. 1-6, 2019 for an extraordinary retreat, “A Course in Miracles: The Easy Path.” For more information about this program, Alan’s Holistic Life Coach Training beginning Jan. 1, 2020, his books and videos, free daily inspirational quotes, online courses, and weekly radio show, visit www.alancohen.com.

When the Wright Brothers flew the first airplane at Kitty Hawk in 1903, the distance of that flight was shorter than the wingspan of a modern 747 jumbo jet. If you had told anyone that year that a man would walk on the moon only 66 years later, less than one lifetime, you would have been called crazy. But passion moves people to do things that reason would never approve. At this moment you have a vision to do something you have never done before. You have a book, song, relationship, seminar or business calling to you from your womb of creativity. A voice within you shouts, “You can and must do this!” While another voice chides, “Turn back before it’s too late.” When making your choice, you stand at the same midway point where the pilot of Solar Impulse CONSCIOUSCOMMUNITYMAGAZINE.COM

THE UNIVERSE IS GRATEFUL FOR YOU by Sandy Daliege

The Universe has a very giving nature. Have you noticed? Every day the Universe is providing you with opportunities to be grateful. People you meet, circumstances you encounter, the flower on the side of the road when you’re stopped in traffic. Beauty surrounds you all the time, but sometimes the blessings are disguised so you have to look closely to appreciate them. For example, driving in the rain may seem like an inconvenience, but when you get to see a rainbow, it’s not so gloomy 14

| CONSCIOUS COMMUNITY MAGAZINE NOVEMBER 2019

after all. Or flying on a rainy day; once you move beyond the clouds, the sun is shining. That’s what life is like. Once you clear your vision, life is always shining for your benefit in some way, whether you’re aware of it or not. Gratitude helps you see the rainbow. That’s how the Universe works. You’re never alone; it’s constantly working with you, conspiring to help you grow. When you’re open to it, it gives you a nudge to pay attention. Look over here, listen to this, stop for a moment. So, when you

open a book at random and you get an answer to something you’ve been wondering about, or you hear a song that transports you into another dimension, or a friend says just the right thing to ease your aching heart, you’ve experienced the Universe providing comfort and inspiration. These are moments to be grateful for. Pay attention to your life; there’s no such thing as a coincidence. You don’t want to miss a moment of all the beautiful ways the Universe is helping you

sculpt your unique expression. Children are naturals at this; they live in a state of wonder. While we’ve made life very complicated, children simply live in the moment, practicing mindfulness with ease. I learned a lot from observing my daughter growing up. When she was about three years old, I remember rushing to get everything into my car for work, while she stood admiring a rock on the ground. When I turned around to ask her what she was doing, she said, “Mom, look at this cool rock!” (She was into rocks.) She was right. It was a cool rock, and I was missing it. Gratitude is a practice that reminds us to see life through the eyes of a child and through the eyes of the soul. My daughter experienced the wonder of the rock while my soul experienced a joyful connection with my daughter, and I was grateful she reminded me of the beautiful spiritual union that exists within us all. This is true of every encounter. You are a gift to every person you meet, and they are a gift to you. Giving and receiving; it becomes as natural as breathing, in and out. This is the natural order of life—to give and to receive. The Universe gives you the opportunity to share your gifts with others and you get the opportunity to receive their blessings in return. Of course, you may not recognize the gift they’re offering at first but take a moment to reflect on all of the people in your life, for there’s something to be learned from everyone. Even a lesson like patience can be a blessing if that’s a quality that needs strengthening within you. But be discerning; the idea is to be grateful for every experience but not critical or judgmental. You want to see the value that exists in everything and everyone, including yourself. Your soul can be helpful with this for it views life through the eyes of Unconditional Love. The soul is your true identity; your authentic self. You do not have a soul, rather you are the soul, a Divine, Loving Spiritual Being connected to all of the spiritual qualities within the Universe. But throughout your incarnation, you’re also living with an inner child, your subconscious, who’s

able to see the wonder of life but sometimes also gets worried, afraid or overwhelmed. Your role as the soul is like a parent to that child. You need to nurture it, calm its fears, watch over it and guide it in a loving, compassionate way. Since your subconscious is your life partner, helping you accomplish everything you do, it deserves to be praised for those accomplishments and treated with love, respect and gratitude. Praise is a form of unconditional love, which helps you grow in self-esteem and self-worth. The same goes for every person in your life. Remind your loved ones how much they mean to you. Tell them you love them. Praise them for the qualities you admire in them. That kind of gratitude goes a long way in enriching healthy relationships. What about your unique gifts and blessings you’ve already welcomed into your life? They need to be acknowledged as well. It’s helpful to sit down and make a list. Expressing gratitude in this way is a very healthy practice. It’s a great idea to start or end each day, reflecting on your blessings and your value; for you are a very unique individual expressing talents, skills, and qualities that only you can bring to life. You are a gift to the world; you make a difference. You’ve attracted relationships and opportunities, and accomplished things that only you could’ve done. Write all these down. It will help bring you clarity for fulfilling your purpose in life, where all of your unique qualities fall into alignment so you can shine your light in the world.

share this philosophy through my center, The Arche Meditation Center of Purpose and Joy. Arche stands for the Divine Principles within us and I seek to help others discover their own purpose and set themselves free to enjoy the wonder of life. I am truly thankful, grateful and blessed to have played a part in so many people’s lives who’ve surrendered to receive all the richness the Universe has to offer. The Universe is grateful for you. Life can be an enjoyable adventure when you surrender to the beauty that surrounds you. Open your heart and receive the myriad of blessings the Universe has waiting for you. Michelangelo stated, “I saw the angel in the marble, and I carved until I set him free.” We are all sculptors, setting our souls free to express our Divine Light and Love in our own unique way. Gratitude helps give you that freedom. That alignment came for me 40 years ago when I learned a simple, ancient philosophy that awakened my soul. Hearing this truth was like coming home— spiritually, mentally, emotionally, physically, everything fell into place. I experienced a shift in Consciousness that aligned me with my highest expression. I continue to be graced beyond measure as I now CONSCIOUSCOMMUNITYMAGAZINE.COM

FULL MOON NOV. 12, 2019 Feasible and Fabulous by Donna Stellhorn This Full Moon in Taurus is a time to be both optimistic and pragmatic. This month, it feels like you’re reaching for the stars to touch wonderous Venus and Jupiter in Sagittarius. But, your feet are firmly planted in the practical energy of the day-to-day activities of the Moon in Taurus and Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn. These energies are about making a living, getting the kids off to school and having time to spend with friends and your partner. Finding the connection between these energies is key this month. In the first two weeks, Jupiter passes through the point of the Galactic Center. Your curiosity is piqued by a book, a podcast or a news report. Then down the rabbit hole you go investigating, learning and researching. Whatever has caught your fancy; learning to cook your own Thanksgiving dinner, planning your next vacation, learning astrol16

ogy or whatever, you have a thirst for knowledge at this time. Venus moves to meet Jupiter around November 23. This can be a lucky period if you want to ask someone out, launch a product or buy a lottery ticket. Mercury is retrograde until Nov. 20. This is a good time for doing things you want to repeat, like seeing friends, taking an art class, or traveling to a beautiful location. But there are a few activities to avoid as Mercury retrograde can be an unpredictable time. Postpone buying a new car, upgrading your phone or signing important contracts. Any of these types of activities can cause disruptions or later regrets when Mercury moves forward again. The best news this month is a planetary sextile chain. This is when planets line up and bring opportunities, one after another. This month, the Sun in Scorpio sextiles Saturn and Pluto

in Capricorn which sextiles Neptune in Pisces which sextiles the Moon in Taurus. You can activate this energy by taking an action such as putting out your resumé or suggesting a coffee date with someone you admire. Then opportunities will present themselves and you need only act to go through the open door to find success.

ARIES You are doing well financially this month, but you may not be feeling it. This could be because you’ve prudently stashed money away in a savings or retirement account. You may also be waiting for a payment, and it will be coming through. By the end of this period, you will be feeling more confident about your financial picture. Your love and romance areas show fun in the bedroom. For those Aries natives looking for a relationship, opportunities come towards the end of this period in early December.

TAURUS The Full Moon is in your sign of Taurus, and your powers of manifestation are strong. Keep your thoughts positive and visualize happy outcomes for meetings and connections with others. Love and friendships are highlighted as the sextile chain can introduce you to interesting and influential people. An increase in finances is directly related to another person. This month, you can ask for the raise, increase your prices, or get with your partner and expand a home business. GEMINI For Gemini natives, you have lots of healing energy to work with this month. This can bring great practitioners, good advice and loving support to help you feel better. Finances can improve by talking to lenders or banks about lowering interest rates or consolidating debt. A celebration is possible as a child comes into the family, or a kid brings home a great report card. Love abounds this month. There is good communication and people are pulling together as a family to support one another. CANCER There is a lot of activity at home. You may be moving, redecorating or getting ready for the holidays with a deep declutter. Your energy improves and a new exercise routine or eating habit is proving to be very beneficial. There is the possibility of a bonus or small windfall connected with your career. A love relationship shifts towards permanence. You may be taking your love relationship to the next level. Those Cancer natives already in a committed partnership benefit by reaffirming that commitment. LEO If you work for a company and are in an office or store all day long, there may be some changes to your job duties now and not all of these changes make sense to your logical mind. It would be good to take some time off (if possible) and find a creative outlet. Home life improves. Children are doing well in school. There is fertility energy around you, facilitating pregnancy or adoption. If you’re looking for love, you can find

interesting possibilities at spiritual gatherings, art shows and/or political rallies.

VIRGO This month, education is the focus. You may be taking a test for job certification, or turning in a project at school. Find a study-buddy to help you focus on the material. You are lucky with real estate. This can mean an investment opportunity or things are just going well at home. Extra money comes in through a relationship. You may be selling a large ticket item or negotiating a work deal. Contracts signed after Mercury goes direct will be very beneficial. Love can be hard to find if you avoid meeting new people. LIBRA Finances improve as you focus on debt repayment. You may find lower interest rates and improved terms. Your energy is high and you’re breezing through your list of things to do. Writing, teaching and speaking in public are all highlighted. You also have good luck with contracts, car purchases (after Mercury goes direct) and short trips. A love relationship can start, but you must make time for that person in your busy schedule. Issues at home need your attention. Home repairs may be necessary. SCORPIO You are lucky with money this month but keep an eye on your spending, or you’ll end the month with more stuff and less cash. A small windfall is possible. A lot of behind the scenes work is happening. An old flame may come back into your life, causing you to do some soul searching about whether to go back to a relationship from your past. Be careful signing contracts, especially during Mercury retrograde. You benefit from getting extra sleep this month or by taking a short vacation near home. SAGITTARIUS Your brain is exceptional this month and you are impressing those around you. Your charisma is strong and you can attract many admirers especially in early December. Your finances benefit from a written budget and your generosity can be your financial undoing if you’re not careful. There are some changes

at work with personnel that can add to your list of things to do. Use some creative thinking to streamline your day. You may find excitement in a new way of eating that is healthy and delicious.

CAPRICORN Spiritually, you’re very connected this month. Messages and insights flow in with ease. You see blocks in your life dissolve and disappear. If you’re looking for love, you can find interesting people to meet through friends of yours. Career energy is strong. You can find a new job or ask for a new position at your current company. Changes with children bring a reason to celebrate. An adult child may be bringing home a partner, or a younger child may show off a great report from school. AQUARIUS This is a great month for your career. You may receive recognition, a great job offer or a promotion. If you own a business, this is a good time to expand your product line, raise prices or hire new people after Mercury goes direct. There are changes at home. Someone may be moving in or moving out. It’s good to move the furniture around as it gets stuck energy moving again. A friendship becomes deeper and more meaningful. It may turn into love if that’s your objective. Visualize a happy connection. PISCES There may be changes at your job, but you’re protected at this time. If you’re wanting a new job, you can receive an offer—set your start date for after Mercury goes direct. Education is also going well. Funding or financial support can be obtained for school or to start a business. Travel is possible, especially to see family or with your partner as a way to reconnect in your relationship. For those looking for love, a possible connection where you least expect it can happen. Visit new places. Donna Stellhorn is an astrologer, Feng Shui expert and author of 15 books. FREQUENCIES PUSH US OVER THE EDGE by Phyllis Light, Ph.D. Times are intense, in case you haven’t noticed, and have been, since late January this year. For those who know astrology, it has been a powerful “Pluto/Saturn” period and will continue for a number of months to come. For those who don’t know astrology, let me elaborate. Pluto is the planet of death and rebirth, ultimately signifying major transformation. We absolutely want the transformation Pluto brings, but the “death” part of that process can be quite tricky as we may feel like some part of us is dying deep down. In fact, this is true. But it doesn’t have to be an actual 18

| CONSCIOUS COMMUNITY MAGAZINE NOVEMBER 2019

death. It is more like the legendary bird, the Phoenix, that first crashes and burns, but then rises, transformed, from the ashes. Accompanying the “death” part are often beliefs like: “Life is too much for me, who wants to be here?,” along with feelings of being overwhelmed, out of control, and unable to keep up with all that is on our plate. This can trigger deep parts of us that say, “I don’t want to be here anymore… I can’t deal with life… get me out of here now!” And since our thoughts create our reality, we could create accidents, illnesses or other circumstances that help us “get

out of here,” if we continue to buy into these programs. Then we have the “Saturn” part, which can be equally as tough. Saturn represents the ultimate taskmaster which is driving us onward and upward to achieve mastery in life. And mastery doesn’t come easily. You have to climb that huge mountain before you can make it to the top. So, what gets triggered during a heavy Saturn period? “It’s too hard, I’ll never make it to where I want to be. I don’t want to keep doing this. I just want to quit. It hardly seems worth it.” Does that sound familiar to any of you at this time?

When you put Pluto and Saturn together, you get a lot of what I call, “death stuff.” That is: feeling overwhelmed and tired; the journey seems unbearably hard, the goal seems so out of reach, and all of that makes you want to throw in the towel, give up, and ultimately check out, so you don’t have to do this anymore.

There are ways to both “clear your negative programming and protect yourself from the frequencies, but you may have to make your physical and spiritual well-being top priority.

Now let’s talk about the frequencies, and see why they may be “pushing you over the edge.” Before 1975, we got hit by about 40 frequencies per day from the several TV and radio stations that existed then. They disrupted our energy field, but we were able to recover from that, due to the infrequent bombardments. After 1975, TV satellites started broadcasting programming 24/7, and we started getting hit by more and more of these life-damaging energies over time. Fast forward to 2019, and we get hit by approximately 300,000 or more frequencies per minute! These frequencies weaken our energy field (we were not designed to sustain such bombardments), and over time, cause stress, irritability, depression, immune system disorders and cardiovascular disease. When you carry a cellphone, use a computer, broadcast WiFi in your home or office—or anywhere you go, watch TV, listen to the radio, or use anything electric or electronic, you are being blasted by countless energetic frequencies that wreak havoc on your energy field, causing your physical body to break down in various ways, as it tries, unsuccessfully, to fight off the frequencies. In addition to creating physical challenges, such as asthma, cancer or

other auto-immune disorders, the frequencies actually disconnect you from your Higher Self and intuitive nature, making you feel depressed and separate from who you really are as a spiritual being of Light and Love. Now add that to this intense “Pluto/Saturn” period we’re all in, and you can see why life can seem so overwhelming! I have heard of more people committing suicide during this period. Not only do you have all the “death programming” getting triggered, but you have all these high-tech frequencies beating on you 24/7, making you feel like you might as well end it all now, since there seems to be no relief in sight. Although this is an incredible period for growth and transformation, being beaten down by all the frequencies is really pushing us over the edge. There are ways to both clear your negative programming and protect yourself from the frequencies, but you may

have to make your physical and spiritual well-being top priority. Sometimes life has to knock you down so far, that you finally decide to make new choices that lead you to the transformation your soul desires. The energy for such transformation is stronger now than ever, so take advantage, and know that you can find the resources you need to help make it through this incredibly challenging period. There will be times when active listening isn’t possible for you: you may have so many feelings that you simply can’t create space inside for the other person’s feelings. This is particularly true if their feelings are about you. It is the rare person who can use active listening when they are the target of another person’s anger or frustration. Yet it remains true that resistance breeds resistance. If you give up on active listening and just fire back with your charges and countercharges, sharing feelings can quickly turn into a nasty fight. If you can’t do active listening, but you know that resistance is likely to make things worse, what is the solution? Years ago a marriage counselor taught my wife and me a simple technique that may have saved our marriage. It’s called the FiveMinute Rule. Each person gets five minutes to say whatever they want, any way they want. The other person does not interrupt at all (or display any emphatic body language). Then they switch. The person who has been silent gets five minutes to say whatever they want, and the other person remains silent. If, at the end of both turns, people still have feelings they need to express, they do another round of five minutes each.

ACTIVE LISTENING

in Close Relationships by James L. Creighton, Ph.D.

Couples fight. Sometimes a little, sometimes a lot. Sometimes these fights provide comic relief. At other times they threaten the very survival of the relationship. Ironically, the hardest person to use active listening with is your partner, particularly if they are upset with you. Someone you love can stimulate your feelings faster than anyone else. Soon you may be unable to keep the focus on the other person’s feelings. There’s a paradox here. When people are in a fight, it would be helpful if they had their feelings acknowledged, which active listening can do. On the other hand, active listening may seem artificial, not the real you. It may be time for the Five-Minute Rule.

THE FIVE-MINUTE RULE Active listening requires you to genuinely hear what the other person is saying. When I am doing active listening, I sometimes have the feeling that I need to clear out a space inside me, putting aside my own feelings, to be able to hear what the other person has to say. Sometimes it takes a real effort. 20

| CONSCIOUS COMMUNITY MAGAZINE NOVEMBER 2019

There are ground rules. Both people agree that either one can invoke the Five-Minute Rule at any time (with some possible exceptions, such as not in front of the children or other people). Once the Five-Minute Rule has been invoked, both people stop whatever they are doing. The only discussion that is allowed is who is going to speak first. Sometimes it is obvious that one of you has a more urgent need to express feelings. But if it’s not obvious, flip a coin. The reason the Five-Minute Rule works is that for five minutes nobody is telling you that you are bad, stupid, or crazy for feeling the way you do. In ordinary tit-for-tat arguments, you are being told you are wrong every twenty seconds or so. Five minutes is long enough that some of the heat of the argument dissipates. I find, for example, that after about four minutes I am repeating myself to the point where I’m beginning to bore even myself. I still feel the way I did, but a whole lot of the intensity has gone out of my feelings. I don’t have the feeling that I just have to get the other person to understand and respond. When using the Five-Minute Rule, do not interrupt your partner, no matter how he or she is expressing feelings. If each of you can avoid blaming and accusing during your five minutes of speaking, it will make it easier to feel good about each other when the exchange is over. If you interrupt your partner to point out that he or she is doing a poor job of sending “I” messages, you will so antagonize them that you’ll lose all the benefits of the Five-Minute Rule, or you’ll trigger a whole different argument. Above all, we want to avoid behaviors that make fights escalate to painful levels. If we can learn to identify behaviors that make things escalate, we can keep ourselves from engaging in them. That’s the next step on our journey. James L. Creighton, Ph.D., is the author of Loving through Your Differences and several other books. He has worked with couples and conducted communications training for nearly 50 years around the world. Visit him online at www.jameslcreighton.com. HEALTHFUL THANKSGIVING RECIPES to Prevent Diabetes and Weight Gain by Betsy Bruns

26

Giving thanks in November is an American tradition that dates back to 1621 when, as the story goes, a harvest feast was shared between the English colonists (Pilgrims) of Plymouth and the Wampanoag people, or the native people of North America, who were here in America before any of the other Europeans arrived. Over the next 300+ years, there were many Thanksgiving proclamations by Congress and Presidents. However, we credit President Abraham Lincoln for declaring Thanksgiving a federal holiday in 1863, to be celebrated on the last Thursday in November, until in 1942, President Franklin D. Roosevelt issued a proclamation designating the fourth Thursday in November as Thanksgiving Day.

unconscious with the traditional fare of turkey, butter-infused stuffing and mashed potatoes, cheesy macaroni and pie, pie, pie! We continue feasting on fatty foods and gathering with friends and family throughout the holiday season until the end of the year, when many Americans will find an extra five to ten pounds of body fat under their belt.

As the country became more urban and family members began to live farther apart, Thanksgiving became a time to gather together and feast. In modern times, Thanksgiving Day observations include football games and stuffing ourselves

What many Americans don’t know is that fat, worn on the body and/or ingested by fork to mouth, is a leading cause of type 2 diabetes and pre-diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is defined as a chronic condition in which the pancreas produces little or no insulin.

| CONSCIOUS COMMUNITY MAGAZINE NOVEMBER 2019

While we are initiating the holiday season and gaining girth, we are also recognizing Diabetes in the month of November. Nearly 30 million people in the U.S. have some form of diabetes and one-fourth of them don’t know it. National Diabetes Month is an annual event in November to boost awareness about the risk factors, symptoms and types of diabetes.

While Type 2 diabetes, the most common type of diabetes affecting 95% of those with the disease, happens when blood glucose, also called blood sugar, is too high; it is also reversible in most cases. Did you know that a plant-based diet is a powerful tool for preventing, managing and even reversing type 2 diabetes? The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) has put the plant-based diet to the test with thousands of patients who have type 2 diabetes and determined that a plant-based diet controlled blood sugar three times more effectively than a traditional diabetes diet that limited calories and carbohydrates. Their studies showed that eating a diet high in fatty foods can cause fat particles to build up inside our cells. These fat particles interfere with insulin’s ability to move sugar out from our bloodstream and into our cells. Instead of giving our cells energy, the glucose stays in the bloodstream, eventually leading to diabetes.

A plant-based diet is low in fat and optimizes insulin function. According to Dr. Neal Barnard, president and founder of the Physicians Committee, “A plant-based diet is a powerful tool for preventing, managing, and even reversing type 2 diabetes. Not only is this the most delicious ‘prescription’ you can imagine, but it’s also easy to follow. Unlike other diets, there’s no calorie counting, no skimpy portions, and no carb counting. Plus, all the ‘side effects’ are good ones.” To trim the fat from your feasting, improve your risk factors and waistline, give one of these plant-based holiday dishes a try.

Directions To make the filling: In a large pot over high heat, combine the wine, thyme, rosemary, garlic powder, and mushrooms or cauliflower. Cook for seven to eight minutes or until the mushrooms release their juices and begin to reduce down. Add the onions, carrots and celery and cook for another three to four minutes. Add the flour, tamari and Worcestershire sauce, if using. Reduce the heat to medium-high for a few minutes to cook out the raw flavor of the flour. Stir in the tomato paste and add a few tablespoons of the water. As the mixture thickens, add another quarter cup or so of the water. Stir. As the mixture thickens again, add the lentils and the remaining water and continue to stir. Let it thicken and bubble, then remove the pot from the heat. Stir in the peas. Transfer the mixture to a baking dish.

SWEET POTATO SHEPHERD’S PIE* This delicious, nutritious twist on Shepherd’s Pie is made from a base of lentils and mushrooms with savory seasonings and crowned with a crisp sweet potato topping. Ingredients Makes 5 Servings 2 tablespoons red wine 1 teaspoon dried thyme ½ teaspoon dried rosemary ½ teaspoon garlic powder 1 pound or about 3 cups white button or cremini mushrooms or 2 cups minced cauliflower 1 cup finely chopped onions ½ cup finely chopped carrots ½ cup finely chopped celery 2 tablespoons whole-wheat pastry flour 3½ tablespoons tamari 1 teaspoon vegan Worcestershire sauce, optional 2 tablespoons tomato paste 1 cup water 2½ cups cooked lentils 2 /3 cup frozen peas 2 cups cubed cooked sweet potato 2 tsp. reduced-sodium tamari 1 tsp. chopped fresh thyme leaves Few pinches freshly grated nutmeg Freshly ground black pepper, to taste ⅓ cup breadcrumbs A pinch of sea salt

To make the topping: Preheat the oven to 400°F. In a medium bowl, mash the sweet potatoes with the tamari, thyme, nutmeg and pepper. Using a spatula, smooth the sweet potatoes over the filling. Sprinkle the breadcrumbs and salt on top. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes until it browns around the edges and is bubbly. Let sit for five minutes or so, then serve.

Ingredients ½ cup soft or silken tofu 1½ cups cashew or nondairy milk of choice 2 tablespoons cornstarch 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 2 cups canned pumpkin purée ½ cup whole-wheat pastry flour 2 teaspoons baking powder ½ cup brown sugar ¼ teaspoon salt 2 teaspoons cinnamon ½ teaspoon nutmeg ½ teaspoon ground ginger ½ teaspoon ground cardamom Non-dairy whipped cream (optional) Cinnamon (optional) Directions Bring the oven temperature to 350°F. Cut a sheet of parchment paper to size to line the bottom of a 9-inch pie dish. Put tofu, cashew milk, cornstarch and vanilla into a large blender or food processor and blend until smooth and uniform. Add pumpkin, flour, baking powder, sugar, salt and spices. Purée for another minute until everything is evenly mixed in, scraping down the sides as needed when the blades are not running. Pour the filling into the prepared pie dish and smooth out with a rubber spatula, if needed, so that the mixture is level. Bake pie uncovered for about 1 hour or until you can stick a toothpick in it without the pie sticking to it. Cool pie to room temperature. Cover and place in the fridge until firm or a minimum of 4 hours. Slice pie into eight wedges and serve. You can top it off with a dollop of non-dairy whipped cream and a pinch of cinnamon.

PUMPKIN PIE You don’t have to give up traditional comfort foods or dessert when eating a plant-based diet. This pie will satisfy your craving and offers a scant 1.4 grams of fat per serving, compared to 10, 15 or more grams of fat in traditional pumpkin pie recipes. Chances are, you can serve this low-fat version, and no one will know the difference.

COSMIC DAILY WEATHER November 2019 by Bernadette Evans

Overview

The energies start off moving slowly in November. You could feel like you’re working away on one project while four other projects vie for your attention. Mercury began its retrograde phase in late October and is retrograde most of this month. This could be the reason that things are not moving as quickly as you’d like. Also, Mercury is in Scorpio and the conversations you’ve been having are intense. You express yourself with passion and intensity. It can really pack a punch but also gets to the heart of the matter. You’ll hear me say this a lot… just breathe. Neptune turns direct after being retrograde for over five months. While Neptune was retrograde, you may have been seeing situations clearer. Maybe you stopped deluding yourself about what was going on. When Neptune goes direct, you can put the rose-colored glasses back on, if you choose. Sometimes living in a fog is enticing; the real world is too tough to handle. Besides hiding behind those glasses, Neptune encourages spiritual and artistic pursuits. Your imagination is fired up, and you’re ready to write that novel or paint that masterpiece! This is also a time when you could feel more compassion for your fellow humans, which sounds like a plus to me. In whatever way you want to view it, there are always benefits and challenges to both the direct and the retrograde periods. Awareness about what is happening in the sky and choosing how you’d like to respond is key. The Moon takes about 28 days to complete its orbit through the 12 signs, staying approximately two and a half days in each sign. When we say the Moon is Void of Course (VoC), it means the Moon makes no more major aspects to other planets before it leaves the sign that it’s in. At these times, it can be difficult to get focused and accomplish a task. You may want to relax, meditate or do something where your focus is turned inward. Don’t try and get a new project off the ground when the Moon is Void. If you want to find out more about the Void of Course Moon, check out moontracks.com. The times below are listed in Central Standard Time.

| CONSCIOUS COMMUNITY MAGAZINE NOVEMBER 2019

Friday, November 1 Venus enters the sign of Sagittarius at 3:25 p.m. When Venus is in the sign of the Archer you could crave an adventure and may feel the urge to book a trip. There’s a feeling of not wanting to be tied down. The Moon-Sun sextile asks you what you’re passionate about? Do you have a project or hobby that lights you up? Time really does fly by when you’re fully engaged and doing what you love. Moon is in Capricorn.

Saturday, November 2 When the Moon conjuncts Pluto you may want to spend some time delving into your emotions or relationships. Where are you or they headed? You’re feeling everything more intensely today. It’s possible that a secret is exposed.

Sunday, November 3 Daylight Savings Time ends today. It’s time to turn your clocks back one hour. You may be feeling restless, bored and want to chuck it all when the Moon squares Uranus. You may go looking for something exciting to happen because you feel the urge for anything to happen. Be careful not to cause any unnecessary drama. There may be a desire for freedom, examine your

feelings before you do anything hasty. Moon VoC at 12:46 a.m. until 5:19 a.m. when it enters the sign of Aquarius.

Monday, November 4 When the Moon’s in Aquarius, you think differently than most and aren’t afraid of rocking the boat. You see things in an unusual way which frankly may scare some people. When you don’t fit into a box that people recognize and are comfortable with, they get scared and sometimes angry. You don’t have time for anyone’s nonsense, you have important projects to get started on, so walk away. Just be you.

Tuesday, November 5 Relations may be strained when Mars squares Pluto. Is there something you’re fighting for or struggling against? Is it worth it? Before you continue down this path, be sure this is a battle you want to fight. Moon VoC at 8:37 a.m. until 5:08 p.m. when it enters the sign of Pisces.

Wednesday, November 6 Emotions are heightened today with the Moon in Pisces. You may feel like numbing yourself out with drugs, alcohol, too much Netflix or meditation. There’s also the possibility of being swept away by feelings of love and romance. There are many ways to use the Piscean energy. Decide how you want to use it.

Thursday, November 7 Feelings may be brought to the surface when the Moon sextiles Pluto. There’s an intensity and a desire to put it all on the table. Add the Moon-Mercury trine to the mix and you’re able to powerfully communicate your feelings. All this could bring you some much-needed healing. Moon VoC at 7:13 p.m.

Friday, November 8 Passion for your work could be what drives you and propels you forward when the Sun sextiles Saturn. Focus, determination and action produce the results you desire. With your goal in mind, it leaves little room for sitting on the sidelines. The Sun-Neptune trine brings your dreams into focus. Moon enters the sign of Aries at 5:49 a.m.

Saturday, November 9 The Moon-Saturn square could bring up feelings of loneliness. Are you focusing

on the negative aspects of your life? By changing your perspective, things may not look as bleak as you thought. Do something for yourself today that lifts your spirits and brings you joy.

Sunday, November 10 The Moon is Void of Course in Aries for a good part of the day. If you’re trying to get work done, you may be frustrated if things aren’t lining up the way you’d like. Why not use this time to go and play? Enjoy yourself! Find joy in the little things like playing or hanging out with a good friend. Take this time out to experience all that life has to offer. Moon VoC at 8:00 a.m. until 5:18 p.m. when it enters the sign of Taurus.

Monday, November 11 You may be driven to have passionate and deep conversations, when the Sun conjuncts Mercury. There’s a need to explore and discuss topics that have been hidden or swept under the rug. It’s not always comfortable but could lead to some interesting discussions, revelations and transformations.

Tuesday, November 12 The Full Moon in Taurus is asking you what you’re ready to release. You’re aware of the changing tides and that something has to change. Are you prepared to let it go? The Taurus Full Moon wants to be comfy and changing or releasing something isn’t always a lot of fun. Being stubborn, just because, could be what keeps you stuck. Check-in with yourself and see if you’re biting off your nose to spite your face. Full Moon in Taurus at 7:34 a.m. Moon VoC at 9:48 a.m.

Wednesday, November 13 You could be feeling extra sensitive today when Mercury trines Neptune. There’s a desire to escape reality and travel wherever your mind will take you. Is there something you’ve shut your eyes to because it was just too painful to face? Listen to your intuition and trust in your own wisdom. Moon enters the sign of Gemini at 2:46 a.m.

Thursday, November 14 There’s the possibility of a new business venture when the Moon opposes Venus. You may also feel a push-pull about spending time with those you care about.

You long for communication but may also crave freedom. It’s a balancing act.

Friday, November 15 Family, whatever that may look like for you, is front and center today with the Moon in Cancer. Nurturing those in your circle feels good. Remember to nurture yourself while you’re at it. Have a nice bath, bake some cookies or whatever else it is that soothes your soul. Moon VoC at 5:40 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. when it enters the sign of Cancer.

Saturday, November 16 Mercury, Neptune and the Moon are all in water signs today forming a grand water trine. Intuition is heightened as are emotions. Be aware that your emotions may fluctuate today. You could feel inspired to create something. Take some deep breaths, go for a walk or write in a journal. Don’t be afraid to explore your feelings.

Sunday, November 17 You could feel compassionate and sensitive when the Moon trines the Sun. Your nurturing nature shines through, as does your ability to smooth any turbulent waters. You feel good and want others to feel just as happy and content. Moon VoC at 2:14 p.m. until 3:57 p.m. when it enters the sign of Leo.

Monday, November 18 When the Moon squares Mercury, you may be examining your feelings and figuring out the best way to say what’s on your mind. These conversations are never easy, but they are necessary. You also may feel you have to defend your position or your beliefs. Take a breath, you don’t have to justify or defend them; you can quietly have your beliefs and so can everyone else.

Tuesday, November 19 Mars enters the sign of Scorpio at 1:40 a.m. When Mars is in Scorpio you exude more power to go after what you want with passion and determination. Today’s Moon-Jupiter trine may bring up feelings of generosity. You want to share your good fortune with others. Sharing could also be in the form of passing down knowledge to younger generations. Generosity and sharing can show up in a variety of ways. Moon VoC at 3:11 p.m. until 7:54 p.m. when it enters the sign of Virgo. CONSCIOUSCOMMUNITYMAGAZINE.COM

Wednesday, November 20 Mercury Stations Direct at 1:12 p.m. It takes a little while before Mercury gathers up steam and you start to see some movement. Be patient and know that the irons that you’ve put in the fire will soon be ready—just give them time. Today’s Virgo Moon can help you focus on specific areas; it could help you recognize the areas that need more work.

Thursday, November 21 You may be reminiscing about how great your relationship was in the beginning when the Moon squares Venus. Try not to spend too much time going down memory lane; instead, be in the present and focus on how your relationships have evolved and grown since then. Also, be mindful of overindulging and possibly spending too much. Moon VoC at 9:31 p.m. until 10:20 p.m. when it enters the sign of Libra.

Friday, November 22 Happy Birthday, Sagittarius! It’s your month to shine. Sun enters the sign of Sagittarius at 8:59 a.m. When the Sun is in the sign of the Archer, you may feel like booking a trip. Getting away from it all and being an explorer in a new land is exciting. It’s also about expanding your horizons through education and being open to other

religions and ideologies. Whatever you choose, enjoy the journey!

Saturday, November 23 The Moon-Pluto square may have you feeling on edge. Emotions are more intense but could lead to new insights. It’s possible that the situation isn’t as bleak as what you first thought. Look at it again and see it with fresh eyes. Moon VoC at 8:49 p.m. until 11:58 p.m. when it enters the sign of Scorpio.

Sunday, November 24 Venus and Jupiter are conjunct. This could have you walking on air and wanting to be in a relationship or just in love with the idea of being in love. It’s pretty heady stuff. Even if you’re not in love, you’re pretty happy with life and feeling generous. You’ll probably want to spend some time with friends. The Mars-Uranus opposition could bring an unexpected opportunity your way. There’s also the potential of behaving in a rash or hasty manner that you could regret later on. Pay attention to your feelings and blow off steam by going for a run—instead of biting off someone’s head. You’ll be glad you did.

Monday, November 25 Venus enters the sign of Capricorn at 6:28 p.m. The planet of love, relationships and money is moving from a fiery, mutable sign to an earthy, cardinal sign. You may find yourself focusing on dependability, faithfulness and loyalty in your relationships. You want steady returns on your investments. You don’t mind working hard. In fact, you may expect others to work just as diligently as you. That may not always be the case, so don’t be too hard on others. Moon VoC at 11:30 a.m. and void the rest of the day.

Tuesday, November 26 Moon enters the sign of Sagittarius at 2:11 a.m. The New Moon in Sagittarius could find you looking for the next great adventure. Travel, whether it’s long-distance or a short trip, could be just what you need right now. It could be you’re yearning for something bigger, more profound but haven’t quite put your finger on what it is. Maybe it’s starting a new spiritual or religious practice or heading back to the classroom to explore a new subject. Have fun playing with all the possibilities and see what happens. New Moon in Sagittarius at 9:06 a.m.

Wednesday, November 27 When the Moon squares Neptune, you may find you’re either falling under someone’s spell, or you’re quite aware of what’s happening and your guard is up. Use your inner wisdom, courage and strength to discern who is doing what. Neptune Stations Direct at 6:32 a.m.

Thursday, November 28 Happy Thanksgiving to my American Readers! The Moon-Venus conjunction encourages socializing and having fun, as well as a little indulging. Feeling sentimental about family and traditions are at the forefront. You may want to bring a favorite family recipe to share. When Uranus trines both the Moon and Venus, you could find you have a surprise guest at the table. It’s Thanksgiving, the more the merrier, right? There’s also the potential for unexpected help when Uranus trines the Moon and Venus. Whomever or whatever this surprise is, it’s exactly what you need. It helps you move with strength and courage toward your dreams and goals. Moon VoC at 4:50 a.m. until 6:33 a.m. when it enters the sign of Capricorn.

Friday, November 29 Feelings of loneliness may overwhelm you when the Moon conjuncts Saturn. You may be focusing on what you’re missing, instead of what you have right in front of you. Then when the Moon conjuncts Pluto, you could be obsessing about someone or something. You have the power to transform this situation by loosening your grip, letting go and letting the chips fall where they may. Moon VoC at 9:57 p.m.

Saturday, November 30 You may feel restless with the Moon in Aquarius. You’re not concerned with what others think nor in the mood to settle for the tried and true way of doing things. What would be the fun in that! Be aware that some people may push back as they don’t like change. As Old Blue Eyes once sang, “I did it myyyy wayyy.” Moon enters the sign of Aquarius at 2:13 p.m. Bernadette Evans is a counseling astrologer, hypnotherapist, Registered Professional Counsellor and writer.
