PUBLISHER’S LETTER

SHINE LIKE A DIAMOND W

elcome to 2021! Given that 2020 has been utterly unprecedented with change and upheaval, many people are breathing a sigh of relief that we’ve made it to 2021. We start this year off with a new president, and we also begin the Age of Aquarius. “[In the Age of Aquarius,] the power is turning over to the individual, and giving the freedom for you to choose your own reality based on what aligns with your soul.” — Adama Sesay, astrologer All of this sounds very optimistic, but we are missing the most important piece of the puzzle—that is YOU! You are the creator of your own reality every moment of your life. Each of you have a soul inside you that is immortal and can create infinite possibilities in life. It is our inside job to create the world we would like to live in. You can read more about this in Phyllis Light, Ph.D.’s article: Taking Back Control: An Inside Job.

KATARZYNA (KASIA) SZUMAL PUBLISHER

In this January issue, we are featuring articles about who we are, change, manifestation, and making shifts in our lives. Turn to Cyndi Dale’s article, Remember the Resolve in Resolution Before Setting New Goals This New Year, to learn more about setting New Year’s resolutions that are in tune with your heart’s needs. If you are feeling like you’ve gotten off track, turn to Dr. Linda Howe’s article, Navigating Transformation: A Spiritual Approach. If you are longing to get in touch with your power, go to our newest column, Activate and Align Your Power with Ania Haas. In this first installment, Why You Don’t Get the Things You Want, she discusses how we can change through self-discovery and awareness. Also, I want to welcome Ania Haas to the Conscious Community Magazine team. Ania will be sharing practical tools to help you become your best self and create the life that you dream of. If you need more assistance or are looking for a oneon-one session, I recommend that you check out our Business Directory filled with life coaches, past life regression hypnotherapists, spiritual advisors, and other professionals. I will tell you a personal story about change: letting go of the old can create space for new things, which can lead to something even better. When I came to the U.S. in 2002, I collected all the spiritual, conscious magazines that I could read in both English and Polish. After more than a decade of collecting different kinds of magazines, I managed to collect hundreds of issues that took up half of my closet. I had this feeling inside me that someday I would need them. I moved three times between 2002 and 2016, and every time, I took those magazines with me. One morning, on Friday, May 20, 2016, after we went to print with the June issue of Conscious Community Magazine, I woke up with this fresh idea in my head; it was time to let go of all of those magazines in the closet. It was time for them to go. Without procrastination, I took ALL of those magazines from the closet to recycle. Surprisingly, it felt really good! One hour later, I received a call from Walter Perschke’s (the previous publisher of Conscious Community Magazine) daughter that he had passed away that morning. Then I discovered that Walter had left me Conscious Community Magazine in his will. You have everything inside you that you need to succeed in 2021. My wish for you is that you discover it and shine like a diamond! Happy New Year!

[COMMUNITY Q&A]

ASK ALECIA by Alecia Rice

Q: I waste so much time playing the

“middle person” for others. It’s hard enough to manage life without spinning my wheels in circumstances that aren’t mine. Any tips on how I can extricate myself? — Spinning My Wheels A: Dear Spinning My Wheels,

These shifting times are calling all of us to better manage our energy by making course corrections and figuring out ways to ease what stresses us for peace of mind. It’s imperative to create more time to just BE—to attend to what’s really important—bringing more joy and fulfillment to our lives to compensate for all that feels so unbalanced and topsy-turvy. Playing the ‘middle person’ can be extraordinarily draining and frustrating. Sometimes we don’t even realize we’re doing it until things pile up and we just can’t take anymore. This realization is the perfect time to rearrange things to extricate ourselves and get back on track. One way to do so is to re-evaluate things in our lives, to figure out where we might be wasting our time and energy so that we can reclaim that space. Once we figure out where we need to do this, we can begin to shift the responsibilities back to others by rerouting them to each other, refusing to take the bait, and by setting boundaries and keeping them. Allowing them to fill each other in by engaging directly with one another develops their relationship and takes the pressure off of us. An example of this might be that people connect with you to ask questions about

others, instead of going directly to the person in question. If they need to know how someone else is doing, tell them to ask the person directly. If they want to know what size that person wears or what their address is, reroute them. (Unless, of course, it’s a surprise gift that they’re trying to send.) Women—especially moms—often automatically fill these spaces, which seems harmless at first but adds up collectively to lost time. Encouraging others to go directly to the source fosters closer bonds in those relationships, while helping others to attend to their needs. Reclaiming these spaces frees us up for “me time,” to take that relaxing Epsom salt bath, get to our sewing, or read that book we’ve been wanting to get to. Don’t feel guilty about making changes. Doing what we’ve always done gets us what we’ve always gotten, and that doesn’t work well when we’re rolling with changes and needing to relieve some pressure. Q: You speak often about setting boundaries, and I realize that I need to set them. I’ve gotten to the place where I’d like to start trying, but I’m not sure how to start. Can you give me some tips? — Seeing the Light A: Dear Seeing the Light,

Healthy relationships require healthy boundaries, as well as a sense of selfrespect. Boundary-setting can help us save lots of time and prevent bad feelings. Boundaries are essential to selfcare; especially right now, when change is in the air. Some tips are as follows:

1. Observe how you feel and know your limits. Identify what is no longer tolerable in your life. Bad feelings, such as discomfort or resentment, are barometers that point us in the direction where boundaries might be needed. Resentment often arises when we feel disrespected or taken advantage of. 2. Find your voice and communicate clearly. This can be difficult, especially if we haven’t been using our voice, which may have gotten us to a place where we’re feeling resentful. Changing this up can ease the resentment over time because we’re now standing for ourselves. 3. Set boundaries during a state of calm, so they can be heard and received more easily. Doing so during an argument often causes what we say to be ignored and discounted. Approaching with a calm, yet firm voice ensures clearer communication that can be better delivered and received. 4. Practice setting smaller boundaries first. Baby step your way with smaller issues, working your way up to larger, more difficult things as you gain confidence. 5. Make sure to have a plan to reinforce boundaries if they’re not honored. Without any concern of repercussion, there’s no motivation for others to honor what’s been requested. 5. Create a “safe space pact” with someone you trust and are comfortable with for a place to use your voice without fear of negative repercussions. This is the perfect way to practice building that muscle until you have enough courage to do so elsewhere. Misstepping is natural when we’re learning, so cut yourself some slack for being imperfect and continue on! NAVIGATING TRANSFORMATION A Spiritual Approach by Dr. Linda Howe We live in the age of awakening spiritual awareness. The era of acquisition is giving way to a new era of collective transformation—achieved one person at a time. While the past unravels, we wait for what’s next to emerge. Thriving in the unknown requires previously unidentified skills, which have historically been the domain of a select few. These times insist on the democratization of personal awareness— a beautiful ideal, born of storms and the failure of corporate consciousness. Watching our external structures collapse, nothing seems reliable. The magnificent opportunity of these times is a conscious, deliberate shift from reliance on external structures to our internal light-life force. How can this happen? Who will lead the way forward? Each one of us is responsible for our own consciousness; no leader is coming to rescue us. The karmic imperative is to become our own spiritual authority. 8

| CONSCIOUS COMMUNITY MAGAZINE JANUARY 2021

As each individual grows into awareness of this possibility, the externals of human existence will reorganize in ways we can trust but have yet to realize. Honoring our personal truth will bring dignity to us all. Let’s consider how this may come to pass. Consider the state changes water moves through: from a block of ice through liquid water into steam. A series of difficult, chaotic shifts occur as heat is applied and the molecules gather energy enough to break apart—finding enough freedom from the pack to turn to liquid. With the continued presence of increasing heat, molecules hasten their dance, crashing into each other until the rate is sufficiently accelerated, at which point the molecules rupture and become steam. The entire block of ice does not transition at the same time; collective shifting occurs as each individual molecule changes form. Change becomes possible when the requisite degree of heat propels the transformation.

Is it possible for mere mortals to transition from one level of knowing to even greater dimensions of knowing? Yes! Much the same process is available to us living in a crucible of transformation. “Initiation” is the process of transiting from one level of knowing to a greater arena of awareness. This glamorous idea, bordering on seductive, beckons us to keep forging ahead. Success requires sufficient “escape speed” to break through limitations and leap into the promised land of new possibilities. Although none of us can change another, we can each do our individual part. We stand together, and yet, we are each responsible for our own path of change. Over decades of exploration in the Akashic Field, I have become aware of a remarkably effective spiritual strategy for navigating such terrain: The Ascension Matrix. Whether we are moving away from distress, or turning toward favorable experiences, progress ensues—with satisfying results. Activation is simple and accessible; this Matrix resides within. Ascension is a process of rising above life’s difficulties with increasing frequency into ever-expanding realms. This process is not manipulative, but rather it propels its practitioner to thrive—even in uncertain conditions. From this progressive altitude of awareness, our relationship to our humanity transforms. We begin to live in the world without unnecessary entanglements—engaged but not engulfed—resulting in effective participation, conscious contribution, and personal fulfillment. Finding freedom to experience and express the infinite love and goodness within us becomes a very real possibility—unleashing the reservoir of unlimited love, wisdom and aliveness cultivated over the span of lifetimes! We have immediate and inspired access to inner treasures to mine and share in our own unique ways. The Ascension Matrix, a natural, innate part of us, is composed of three aspects, gratitude, grace and generosity, each with its own role. Gratitude gives us momentum. As we experience gratitude, we move forward, grounded and gathering speed. Even in the worst of circumstances, we can find a reason to be grateful, even if it is an awareness of our misery. The Universe appreciates honesty. As we tell the truth about our inner reality, our experience begins to change. Deliberate seeking brings discovery. Looking for reasons to be grateful leads us to find infinite reasons for gratitude. This effective strategy empowers us to take responsibility for our thoughts so we can direct ourselves toward preferred paths. Generosity is simple–give! The act of giving liberates us, opening up space for new opportunities. Thoughts of giving are a good place to start, but ours is a planet of action. We always have something to give: time, attention, a listening heart. By giving what we have and as we are able, we literally lighten up, making it easier to rise above. As we give, we stimulate our unlimited essence. Generosity gives us velocity—moving upward and forward simultaneously. Fortunately, the age of martyrdom has officially ended. So now we ask: What and how can I give in a way that nurtures and sustains me?

Grace is the catalyst, an exquisite energy bringing out the best wherever it is recognized. While grace may indeed be present everywhere, it awakens only when identified— challenging us to look for that quality of specialness, elegance, compassion, appreciation or mercy. As we awaken to the presence of grace, grace is stimulated, enhancing the experience of the observer. The three parts of our matrix already reside within us, so there is no need to install anything. Where and how can you activate your Matrix right here, right now at this moment? This practical spiritual approach uplifts us as we navigate these times of epic change. The transformation we crave is through life, not outside or beyond, by embracing our humanity and discovering our divinity. Spiritual principles are applicable as we live into the experience of our oneness, honor our unique precious individuality and respect the same in others. As each of us does our part, we expand the path, opening the way for the inclusion of all. Collective transformation requires us to be what we hope others will be. Let it begin with me! REMEMBER THE RESOLVE IN RESOLUTION Before Setting New Goals This New Year by Cyndi Dale Several years ago, my son Gabriel was brainstorming ways to make money. Apparently, he didn’t think he would receive enough for Christmas—not an amount adequate to purchase that mighty amazing electric guitar anyway. So, he was establishing various tasks by which he could fleece his mother out of as much money as possible. How about $20 for a flushed toilet? How about another $100 to clean it—just the top of course? Upon hearing too many refusals, he chose another recourse. A threat.

least in part, from the previous one. So, we set resolutions.

“Mom, if you don’t let me make money, I’ll become a lawyer when I grow up.”

Most of us review the past as if flipping through the pages of a book once read, stopping at the turned-down corners to peruse the most important moments, lessons and events. Some storylines are painful. Life is tragic. It is full of undeserved pain, hurt inflicted by others on us, and even worse, harm we’ve caused to others.

I think the idea was that he could then sue me for everything I was worth. Every January, the turn of the calendar is synonymous with the word “pause.” Most of us want our upcoming year to differ, at 10

| CONSCIOUS COMMUNITY MAGAZINE JANUARY 2021

A resolution is usually defined as a goal or a promise. We decree that this year, we’ll lose weight, meet a mate, break up a bad relationship or exercise. That’s great! But, we have to remember that another definition of the word is “the process of resolving something.” We can’t create the future until we embrace, reflect upon, and with kindness, release the past. And maybe we need to make a few changes.

Some narratives are happier. Life is comedic, glistening with

the serendipitous. We seemingly can’t—or don’t know how— to have one without the other. If we really desire a better future, however, we have to be a little more intentional than simply read the highlights. We have to dig. We have to dig for the selves we’ve buried. We lose so much of ourselves on the way. That five-year-old who was hated by her mother? That 10-year-old who was yelled at by dad? That first real-life partner, the one who cheated on us? We’ve left so many ages of ourselves behind, thinking we’re better off without them, when the truth is that whatever— whoever—we fail to bring “up to date” continues to run our lives. That 5-year-old will continue to attract relationships based on hate. The 10-year-old has either become an alcoholic or partners with one. And broken hearts just keep on breaking—or breaking the hearts of others, don’t they? If someone hurts us, we’ll either hurt others the same way or become vulnerable to people who are all too happy to scald us with the same hot water. New Year’s Eve is a perfect time to pay tribute to who we are and have been by listening to the “village within,” the various selves that have been hurt, damaged, confused or treated with unrecognized kindness and civility. Taking an hour or two for quiet reflection is a good start. Sit in silence, or listen to calming music and ask the unremembered selves to appear. There might be quite a queue. Let each present him/herself and ask what occurred that made them feel like they had to remain hidden in the past. Most of the time, your inner selves will present detrimental or abusive memories. Sometimes, however, they’ll hold up a joyful event, one you’ve forgotten to remember, and so, are having a hard time repeating. As the adult in the process, treat the inner self in the way you wished an authority would have. If you are confused, ask your Higher Self to assist. This is the part of you that knows it is connected to God. Or, ask the Divine to help more directly. Finally, remember to reflect on the word “change.” Are there any actions you should take to complete this healing? To alter the present so you can forge a more fruitful future?

10 pounds. Do we really want to pretend that we’re going to shed them, or would we rather work harder and buy a new wardrobe? If you don’t get an immediate answer, meditate on the subject for a few days. Let the process unfold the outcome. It’s also important to examine the motives for our goals. It would be a sad world, for Gabe to become a lawyer just because he’s mad at his mother. The truth is that people set objectives for the wrong reasons all the time, and then live in regret, yet another way of hiding in the past. That potential artist? The writer? The super-duper accountant or horseback rider or business consultant? He or she is still secreted in a corner of our hearts, while the adult self cloaks itself behind medical garb, an apron, or cowboy boots, or some other attire that doesn’t suit us. Above all, remember the “two sides” to resolutions. There’s the part that concerns the past and the part that regards the future. In the middle is our Divine Self—the Self that can be contacted in any pause. Between heartbeats. Between breaths. Between thoughts and actions. We can visit this place, this space within ourselves, once a year as most people do, or we can decide to live there. Maybe Gabe won’t grow up to be a lawyer after all. Cyndi Dale is an internationally renowned author, speaker and energy healer. She is the author of 27 books on energy medicine, intuition and spirituality. Visit www.cyndidale.com.

We don’t always have to walk the road of the distant past. Sometimes more recent inner selves require a listening ear. Maybe we forgot to say, “I’m sorry,” to someone we love. Maybe we need to say the same to ourselves. Maybe we need to pepper the universe with more thankfulness. Peering through the looking glass backward is only half of the New Year’s blitz. Once we’ve jettisoned the anchors to the past, we have to decide where we’re going to head. Why set sail without a course? Most of us confine our goal-setting to New Year’s Eve, but it’s not a process to rush. Pause. Take time to savor your desires one at a time. Ask your heart if an objective is really all that important, or if you’d rather spend the energy a different way. We might want to buy a new house, but do we need to? Is the outcome worth the effort? Might we be better off spending more time with our kids or taking up a hobby? There’s that negligent

WHY YOU DON’T GET THE THINGS YOU WANT by Ania Haas

Let’s begin with a short practice. I would like you to think of one situation from your life that makes you feel heavy. This may include someone who is holding you back from achieving your goals, an experience that affects your confidence, or an anxiety that prevents you from getting things done. Think about them right now; you might even want to write them all down. After you are done, take a few deep, cleansing breaths into your body. Feel yourself relaxing. When you are ready, imagine that you are falling asleep. While you are sleeping, something magical happens; all of the things from your list become magically erased. Poof! Gone. You wake up from that wonderful imagined nap, and your life is changed. How exciting! You look at yourself in the mirror in disbelief. From now 12

| CONSCIOUS COMMUNITY MAGAZINE JANUARY 2021

on, nothing holds you back. What does your life look like without these blocks? Pinpoint the differences. From this new standpoint, what would you allow yourself to do? How would you look? How would you talk? How would you act? Who would you share your experience with? Some people say it would be just marvelous to wake up each morning with a smile and passionately meet the day. They could cultivate the things and activities they love and surround themselves with people who understand them fully. Everything that they wish would come easily and effortlessly. Would you agree that a life filled with joy, passion and love would feel wonderful? So, why do you do the opposite,

and sabotage your happiness? By allowing mental blocks and past experiences to define who you are, and what possibilities there are for you, you take power away from yourself. If you look for validation by comparing yourself to people, you undervalue yourself. By the way, do you still believe that you need to work hard and give up all that you have to be considered lovable, appreciated and recognized? If yes, I’m asking you to stop. Instead, I invite you to wake up, shake yourself from this old paradigm— the stories told by others. I’m here to remind you about who you are, your talents, your visions and the power you hold within. You are the creator of your life experience. Knowingly or unknowingly, you repeat the same sequences of your life over and over again. Each time you repeat the same sequence, you are anchoring your belief about your life experience. Know that this chain of information is not created by you consciously. It was created by the way you were raised, the culture you grew up in, and your family of origin. Although the old program is there, you can stop being a passive observer and instead start actively participating in your life. You have the power to change it! Let me share with you three steps I invented to create change through self-discovery and awareness: 1. Assessment: In this step, you will look honestly at yourself and find out more about yourself. 2. Design: Here, you will ask yourself to answer two questions: What do I want? What is my purpose?

3. Implementation and Results: In this step, you will activate and align your action with your
goals, let go of any emotional and energetic blockages, and see the results.
Sounds good? Great. Before we start with the first step, I will give you something to work on. In that way, you will find out more about yourself and about your unique talents. Here is what I ask you to do. Draft a short email and send it to five people who know you very well. Ask them to write five things that they believe are unique about you. What people will write might surprise you, because you don’t know how others perceive you. When you receive the emails, I invite you to sit with each and let the information sink in. Feel how it resonates with you. If you would like to share your experience with me, or if you have any questions, please send me an email at info@aniahaas.com. I’m sending you lots of good energy. TAKING BACK CONTROL An Inside Job by Phyllis Light, Ph.D. All that is happening on the planet represents the collective consciousness of humanity. In other words, we’re all co-creating the reality of today’s world together. How did we “create” it to be “so bad?” The answer is simple. There is a “shadow side” to every one of us, and sometimes, we need to look at it collectively to see it and transform it. One of the big issues that is surfacing for many people is the area of “control.” How “in control” do we feel? If we feel out of control, what are we doing about it? How much do we want someone outside of us to step in and control us, to make us feel safe? Since we seem to be creating a fairly “out of control” world at this time, then each of us must have “control issues” that need to be examined. Everything going on “out there,” around us, reflects something going on inside of us. This is a fundamental, metaphysical truth. We can’t simply blame “some virus,” “some political leader,” or some external situation that is causing us to feel out of control. Whatever we are feeling is an inside job. There may well be something externally triggering our old, negative programming, and this may be causing us to feel bad or out of control, but we must take responsibility. We need to look inside and tell the truth about our negative beliefs and programs about being—or not being—in control and then be willing to heal and transform them. As we come to a greater master of this issue within ourselves, we will have a greater impact on the consciousness-at-large. By healing ourselves, we are helping to heal the world. If life isn’t giving you what you want, it’s time to look inside and see which thoughts, attitudes, and beliefs are creating your version of reality. (We all have different versions.) Then be willing to work on transforming that inner negativity. This will help you get through your current challenging situation(s) and diminish your need to attract something similar in the future. Once the inner lesson is learned, the outer circumstances can change for the better! One challenge for us as humans is that we tend to buy into 14

whatever beliefs are “out there” in the collective. That is we assume whatever we read in the newspaper or see on television is “the truth.” We do what others are doing; we believe what they believe. Somehow, we feel safe in being just like everyone else. However, if you do that, particularly in today’s world, you are buying into boatloads of beliefs that are not for your Highest Good. Such beliefs will continue to create a bleak reality and leave you feeling out of control. Do you ever find yourself talking about how bad things are or how terrible things are getting? The more negativity you focus on, the more you will increase that energy in your life. And, you will always “get to be right” about your beliefs. If you believe it’s “so bad” out there, you will continue to experience that in your version of reality. We all want to be right about what we believe. This is the ego’s way of “being in control.” The problem is, most of our beliefs do not come from self-examination and inquiry into what is true for us. They come from what we have assumed to be true from those around us. There is a deeper way to “be in control,” that is not egobased. It is about choosing more positive thoughts, more positive actions, more positive and life-affirming beliefs in each subsequent moment. In other words, you want to remain maximally flexible and open, newly choosing in each moment. “What do I want to believe NOW?” What do I want to experience NOW?” “What do I want to create NOW?” You have more control over each new moment than you know! Feeling in control, or in charge of your life, is truly an inside job. Acknowledge the people in your life that make you smile. Be grateful for all the good you have. Focusing on the positive increases that energy in your life. It’s okay to be aware of the negative to be able to work on transforming it, but which side are you energizing? This will determine how in control, or in charge, of your life you feel! THE NEW/FULL MOON ENERGY for January 2021

by Donna Stellhorn

Hello everyone, I hope you’re safe and well. On January 28, there is a Full Moon in Cancer, focusing your energy on home, family, as well as good food. This lunar energy helps you usher in the New Year in the comfort of your home as you release the energy of the past year. You may want to burn a white candle or some sage on New Year’s Day to help clear the energy. This Full Moon in Cancer is about creating emotional closeness and connection in new ways. You may have a desire to care for and nurture others at this time. Your community spirit could increase as you check in with neighbors to see how they’re doing, or wish them “Happy New Year” as you walk around the neighborhood. On Jan. 6, Mars enters the money sign of Taurus, and there’s a focus on material security as well as the ability to act to create new streams of income. This energy 16

will last all month. It’s a good time to consider starting your own business, or turning a hobby into something profitable. The New Moon in Capricorn is on Jan. 12, and on the same day, Mars squares Saturn in Aquarius. As you are gaining momentum, you come to a steep hill and are going to have to pedal harder to keep from sliding back. But this New Moon gives you the determination to get to the top. Once there, your actions and hard work are seen and admired by others. This can be a boost to your reputation and help you make positive career connections. On Jan. 17, Jupiter squares Uranus. Now it’s productive to get off the beaten path and take your own road. This is a good time to do it your way. That said, avoid risky sports on this day. Choose another day for bungee jumping.

The Full Moon in Leo arrives on Jan. 28, reminding you to be yourself because you are extraordinary. Time to let your creative side loose. This might mean you are doing more art, music or dance. But any type of creativity will bring something wonderful into the world. On Jan. 30, Mercury goes retrograde, and for the next three weeks or so, avoid doing things you don’t want to repeat, such as root canals, visiting the DMV, or getting a divorce. Mercury retrograde can also bring difficulties with electronics or vehicles. We’ll talk more about that next month.

Aries With Mars going into your house of money, you have a lot of financial opportunities. Action will be needed to secure these, but the path can be quite clear. If you’re in school, things could go

quite well, and you may meet someone who becomes a close friend. However, romance could be a little tricky, as your schedules don’t seem to match up. Try not to take it personally if you get stood up. Some career recognition could come to you and even bring you a new job or an opportunity to lead the team.

Taurus You have more energy once Mars moves into your own sign. You can breeze through your to-do list. Some resources become available to you. This could mean a lowinterest loan or great terms for refinancing a house. There are some changes to your job coming from the very top. You may feel uncertain, but in the end, they are to your benefit. Education is highlighted, and you can get help with funding for school. There is some intimate romance this month mixed with a little adventure.

Gemini As Mars goes into Taurus, Gemini native, you have more energy than usual (which is saying something). You may find yourself bouncing off the walls, unless you have a project to pour this energy into. Relationship energy is also quite strong. Some Gemini natives may be going from introductions to passion pretty quickly. There could be a contract for you to sign for employment or a large purchase. You may be having a discussion with a knowledgeable family friend about an investment opportunity.

Cancer Mars enters Taurus in your house of friendship, bringing you an opportunity for friendship. This could be a person with a lot of energy for exercise, running or hiking. Work can go well, as you may be getting an assistant or more support in your job. You have a strong focus on your finances, and you may be keeping track of the pennies so that you can put extra money in the bank. There’s excellent relationship energy, especially if you’re looking for love. You can find an interesting match.

Leo Mars goes into Taurus energizing your house of career. If you’re looking for a new job or want to shift positions in your current job, you have a lot of backing for this. There is good romance energy for Leo natives, along with some fertility

energy. This is good if you want to add to the family. You also can find a business partner or someone to collaborate with you on a project. They may have the technical expertise that you need. A new health routine really pays off this month.

or family member and they can give you a boost. There are some great financial opportunities for Sagittarius natives. You might be selling some large ticket items. A salary increase is also possible.

Virgo

Mars in harmonious Taurus gives you a burst of creative energy. You might use this for your own business. This is also very strong fertility energy if you want to go that direction. This month, you may have a spiritual experience where you really feel your guardian angel or notice your intuition. You’re keeping a close eye on your finances, and this helps you increase your take-home pay. As the sun travels through Capricorn (Happy birthday!) others notice your confidence. This may lead to love.

Mars in Taurus enters your house of education. This could help you do well on tests, or it may bring a class for you to teach, or a meeting for you to lead. You might be redecorating at home or successfully finishing up a renovation project. A new exercise routine is not only good for your body, but it could be helping you get more restful sleep. There’s a business opportunity that could be perfect for your skillset. Consider getting a friend’s advice on this, or even getting together to take on this venture.

Libra

Capricorn

Aquarius

Mars in Taurus unlocks some financial resources for you. If you’re looking for a bill consolidation loan or some great investment advice, you can find it now. Your communication is improving, and people may be complimenting how you lead meetings. More people see your writing. Romance is possibly a little bumpy as someone likes you, but you’re not sure if you like them. Here’s where your natural diplomacy is handy. Home life is good. There may be a visit from close relatives.

Mars in Taurus goes into your house of home and family. You might be talking about moving or making some big changes to the house. A new friendship is possible with somebody who you knew in school, or who shares your spiritual beliefs. A relationship that was having some difficulty now has an opportunity to be mended. A hidden talent of yours emerges and could make you some money. There could be financial gain related to real estate. Organize your home office to attract prosperity.

Scorpio

Pisces

Mars in Taurus activates your house of relationships, and you could be actively working on your love life at this time. If you’re looking for love, this is an excellent opportunity to find someone who’s a great match. A small windfall is possible, but there’s also more spending happening. You could be tapped for a new position at work, but you are uncertain whether you want the additional responsibility. You can do some negotiations and get what you want. You can even get the terms in writing.

Mars in Taurus is in your house of communication and siblings. You may be talking more with family members and even mending fences. You’re well-liked in your job, and if you make requests, supervisors could go out of their way to help you. You may be starting a healthy eating plan as well as doing meditation or yoga. A friendship can turn into a romance. If you have been communicating with a person through an online dating site, now you can meet. This could be a great match.

Sagittarius Mars in Taurus enters your house of health, and you may suddenly decide to train for a marathon or go cross-country skiing. Several people compliment you on how good you look. You are turning heads. If you’re in school, you may be feeling unmotivated. Get with a school counselor

Beans

Good for the Heart by Betsy Bruns

Beans, beans, they’re good for the heart...the more you eat…the more you lose. Traditionally, this time of year, many people embark on a weight loss plan in an attempt to release excess pounds. You may know where I’m going with this, as I’ve written previously about the many incredible benefits of a plantbased diet. According to The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, plant-based diets can help you lose weight and keep it off because they are packed with fiber, which helps fill you up, without adding extra calories. Eating 40 grams of fiber each day will keep you full and energized.

Did you know that beans are a fiber powerhouse? According to a meta-analysis published online in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, beans, lentils, chickpeas and other legumes help with weight management. Researchers reviewed 21 articles encompassing 940 overweight or obese participants on the impact of eating legumes on body weight, body fat and waist circumference. One serving of beans each day resulted in about half a pound lost after six weeks, compared with those who did not consume a daily serving of legumes. Legumes are not only high in fiber and protein, they increase satiety with fewer calories.

Who doesn’t want to lose weight by adding food into their diet? A dramatic increase in fiber and bean 18

consumption can make life more “musical” if you know what I mean. See the guide from the Physicians Committee to learn how to make the switch with more ease and less wind.

VEGAN CAVIAR WITH VEGAN SOUR CREAM CHEESE* A simple appetizer that is a party in the mouth. I was never a fish egg caviar connoisseur, but this vegan version tastes luxurious and satisfying for a fraction of the cost. ½ cup black beluga lentils 2 cups water 2 teaspoons kosher salt 2 tablespoons minced capers, packed in brine 2 tablespoons brine from the caper jar ¼ cup vegan cream cheese 1 tablespoon white miso 2 scallions chopped, for garnish 16 to 20 water cracker rounds, or your favorite cracker

CHICKPEA BURGERS** Makes Six Servings These burgers are an exotic twist of flavors and healing ingredients. I’ve gotten rave reviews from students in my PCRM cancer workshops. 2 tablespoons sesame seeds ¼ cup potato flour ½ teaspoon salt ⅛ teaspoon cayenne pepper, to taste ½ teaspoon ground coriander or cardamom 1 teaspoon ground cumin 1 ½ teaspoons curry powder 1 tablespoon soy sauce ½ cup cooked bulgur or brown rice 1 can (or 1 ½ cups cooked chickpeas) drained and rinsed 1 garlic clove, minced or pressed 1 stalk or ½ cup celery, finely chopped 1 small carrot or ½ cup finely chopped 1 small onion or ½ cup finely chopped Vegetable oil spray

Rinse the beluga lentils and put them in a small pot with the water. Bring to a simmer, then cover and cook for 20 minutes or until the lentils are soft. Drain the cooked lentils and place them in a medium bowl. Add the salt, capers and caper brine. Mix well and refrigerate for at least two hours. Mix the vegan cream cheese with the miso in a small bowl. For serving, spread a thin layer of vegan sour cream cheese onto cracker rounds. Add one-half to one tablespoon of caviar to each and top with chopped scallions and additional capers, if desired.

Toast sesame seeds in a dry skillet until they begin to pop and become fragrant. Grind the toasted sesame seeds in a food processor or blender,

then transfer to a mixing bowl. Add onion, carrot, celery and garlic. Chop chickpeas in a food processor, using an on/off pulsing action, or by hand using a potato masher, leaving some chunks. Add chickpeas to vegetable mixture, along with bulgur or brown rice, soy sauce, curry powder, cumin, coriander, cayenne and salt. Mix thoroughly. Stir in enough potato flour to form a stiff dough. Knead for 30 seconds, then form into six patties. Lightly spray a nonstick skillet with vegetable oil spray. Cook patties over medium heat for about two minutes until the first side is lightly browned. Then flip and cook the second side for another two minutes until it is lightly browned. Enjoy

these burgers hot from the skillet. Store any leftovers in a covered container in the refrigerator. Leftover chickpea burgers will keep for up to three days. COSMIC DAILY WEATHER January 2021 by Bernadette Evans

Overview

Hello and welcome to 2021! This month, you can expect new beginnings and fresh starts— as well as some endings—and Mercury retrograde. Jupiter and Saturn are in the early degrees of Aquarius so they’re making a lot of contact with Mercury, Venus and Mars who are all entering new signs. I could be looking at this with rose-colored glasses, but it feels hopeful to me. Mars enters the sign of Taurus, signifying a desire to act towards a goal but in a careful, studious way. The other side of that is that you may get tunnel vision and hold to your course of action, even if it’s not the best way to go. A few days later Mercury will enter Aquarius, accentuating unusual and inventive thoughts. Mercury in Aquarius also processes information quickly. Be careful of getting stuck in your thinking, be willing to hear what others have to say. The same day, Venus enters Capricorn, emphasizing your appreciation for loyalty in your friendships. You’re grateful for the partner you can count on; one who is practical, dependable and responsible, whether it’s in business or a romantic relationship. Mercury will retrograde on Jan. 30 and will be retrograde until Feb. 20. This means he will be in Aquarius for approximately nine weeks instead of the usual three weeks. Mercury retrograde usually means there are delays in communications, lost emails or texts, possible misunderstandings. When Mercury is retrograde it gives us time to re-think, re-evaluate and revise our plans for the future, so that when we do move forward, hopefully. it will be smooth sailing. Moon VoC is Moon Void of Course. The times below are listed in Central Standard Time (CST).

| CONSCIOUS COMMUNITY MAGAZINE JANUARY 2021

Friday, January 1 Happy New Year’s Day! Communication and imagination are intertwined when Mercury sextiles Neptune. You express yourself beautifully. Getting lost in your own imagination is a possibility. See your ideas take flight when you play with words, paint a picture, listen to some great music, or just tune into the sounds of the Universe. It’s a playful day, so enjoy! Moon in Leo.

Saturday, January 2 The Moon trine Mars could give you the courage to take charge or stand up to someone or something. This is harmonious energy, but the Moon and Mars are both in Fire signs. You’re passionate about your beliefs and want to share your opinions with others. Unfortunately, not everyone is on the same page. Emotions could become amplified, so be wise when speaking with others so that you don’t put your foot in it. Moon VoC at 4:00 p.m. until 7:13 p.m. when it enters the sign of Virgo.

Sunday, January 3 What would you like to grow? The Moon trines Uranus and the Sun, forming a Grand Earth trine, which can be very grounding. Whatever you’d like to cultivate, you’ll need a firm foundation on which to build. January is the month when a lot of people set goals for the year. So, with that in mind, what would you like to create this year? Ponder what it is, and if you need someone’s help, remember to ask. You feel excited and ready to start the year off right!

Monday, January 4 There’s some flowing energy today when the Moon trines Mercury and Pluto. Mercury and Pluto are conjoined. Your emotions could be intense and you crave honest dialogues with others. Be patient with them and yourself; not everyone can express themselves so honestly. Just opening the lines of communications is a great start. See what comes to light once the conversations begin and go from there. Moon VoC at 3:34 p.m. until 11:42 p.m. when it enters the sign of Libra.

ideas and see what grows. Mercury enters the sign of Aquarius at 6 a.m. Venus moves into the sign of Capricorn at 9:41 a.m. Moon VoC at 7:59 p.m.

Saturday, January 9

You may feel hopeful and are eager to connect with others when the Moon is in Libra. Focus on partnerships and relationships and what you can accomplish when you work together. If there are any hiccups, think of how you can overcome them. You got this!

The overarching theme for today is clear skies with a chance of turbulence. The Moon in Sagittarius suggests stepping out for some adventure. Be careful while having fun so that you don’t stick your foot in your mouth. The Venus/Mars trine emphasizes being social and making connections. Everyone is more friendly, agreeable and open to suggestions. The Mercury/Saturn conjunction could help you focus on a project. Mercury and Saturn can also stir up feelings of not good enough, or even depression. Try to find the balance between thinking you know everything or feeling dejected and rejecting your ideas or shooting down someone else’s. Moon enters the sign of Sagittarius at 5:15 a.m.

Wednesday, January 6

Sunday, January 10

Tuesday, January 5

When the Moon squares Pluto, buried emotions may come bubbling up to the surface. There’s the possibility of power struggles either at work or in your other relationships. You could be the one trying to wield power, and guilt someone into doing what you like, or it could be that someone is trying to do this to you. You may have been burying some deep desires because you’re afraid or worried about what others may say. Step out of your comfort zone, be honest with yourself and follow your desires. You’re looking for a connection in your relationships. There’s a desire to open up to someone close to you, or someone may need to bare their soul to you. Be open and ready to talk and listen. Don’t be afraid to reach out to a friend or the Crisis line. Mars enters the sign of Taurus at 4:27 p.m. Moon VoC at 11:55 p.m.

Thursday, January 7 You could be searching for answers to life’s big questions when the Moon squares Jupiter. Philosophical thoughts about life and the here and now are weighing on your mind. Don’t let yourself be pulled in multiple directions, scattering your energy. Get grounded and focus on one specific area. Be here now. The Moon/Uranus opposition may bring up feelings of restlessness and being on edge. If anyone tries to exert any power over you, or even suggests an alternative plan, you’re likely to say no just to make them aware that you’re your own person and can’t be pushed around. You’re also ready to take flight if you feel someone is trying to control you. Moon enters the sign of Scorpio at 2:53 a.m.

Friday, January 8 When Mercury squares Mars, be careful of exploding tempers—yours or someone else’s. It could be that one of you is digging in their heels and being stubborn. You can overcome these obstacles by trying to see it from another’s vantage point. Don’t let something minor block you from moving forward. The Sun/Neptune sextile whispers of an opportunity to create your dreams. Find the balance when working with others, be open to their

The Moon is void from early afternoon on. Try and find the balance today between working too hard and not paying attention to any of your responsibilities. Finish up your to-do list—or maybe one of the items on the list—then go out for a walk, grab a coffee. While you’re enjoying that coffee, you may want to think about your plans. Jot down any ideas for future reference. Moon VoC at 12:29 p.m. and void the rest of the day.

Monday, January 11 You could feel like your head is buzzing when Mercury conjoins Jupiter. You have an abundance of ideas and want to get started on all of them! You may even want to study something new, take a class. Your brain is in high gear and your optimism and enthusiasm are contagious. While every journey starts with that first step, if you take one step here and another step in another direction, you could end up dancing in circles. Your mind is busy but it may be nice to unwind at some point. Remember to do something fun today too. Moon enters the sign of Capricorn at 7:30 a.m.

Tuesday, January 12 The New Moon is at 23 degrees Capricorn at 11 p.m. Pluto is snuggled up close to the Sun and Moon, which makes this a very powerful New Moon. You could have some added responsibility, which may pay out huge dividends. Whatever change is on your doorstep, it will be bringing huge results. New beginnings aren’t always easy, and at the time you may be unsure if you’re making the right move or not. If you choose to make a fresh start, you can be sure you’ll experience growth along the way. You can’t get around it. Change + Start = Growth/Transformation. Not everyone will be happy with your decision, but it’s your move, the choice is always in your hands. Remember who you are. Follow that compass and…full steam ahead!

Wednesday, January 13 A lot is going on in the skies. A New Moon late last night encouraging you to take a step forward. Movement and transformation can feel challenging

at times. You keep looking back over your shoulder and second-guessing yourself. As difficult as it is to make a change, let go of old thoughts, beliefs, attitudes, jobs or relationships that don’t push you to be your best. Turn around and look towards your future. Moon VoC at 1:22 a.m. until 10:44 a.m. when it moves into the sign of Aquarius.

Thursday, January 14 You could still be feeling the reverberations of the New Moon energy, but with the Moon Void all day in Aquarius, you may need some downtime. If you can, set aside some time to relax and regroup. Just take time to really breathe. You may be feeling some distance from friends and loved ones and are hurting from the separation. Pick up the phone to connect with a good friend. You’ll be happy you did, falling into an easy conversation where you both understand each other’s language. Uranus stations Direct at 2:36 a.m. Moon VoC at 3:28 a.m. and void all day.

Friday, January 15 While the Moon is still void in Aquarius until later in the afternoon, you may feel shaky, like you’re ready to burst from your shell. Maybe you’re not feeling like yourself. What grounds you and helps you feel centered? Take the time to connect with yourself or Source—however that looks to you. Try some different breathing techniques, meditating, walking in nature or moving your body. Then focus on all the blessings in your life. Moon enters the sign of Pisces at 4:17 p.m.

Saturday, January 16 You may feel like you’ve woken up from a slumber. The Moon sextiles Venus and you’re feeling happy, appreciative and full of life. You may want to decorate your home or blow the dust off an art project you hadn’t looked at for a while. Connecting with friends feels right, as does preparing a romantic meal for someone you care about! The gesture will be appreciated. Whatever you decide to do today, enjoy this lovely energy.

Sunday, January 17 You may have been feeling the energy of Jupiter square Uranus for a few days. It’s time to move, you may not know how or why but you feel compelled to do something, anything! There is a restlessness and a desire to make something happen. It doesn’t have to be drastic or earthshattering, you just need a change. Be flexible and open to all the surprises the Universe has in store for you. You never know what’s around the corner. Moon VoC at 9:44 p.m.

Monday, January 18 When the Moon sextiles Jupiter you may have a lot on your to-do list. Feeling optimistic you may be happily busy, completing tasks and meeting deadlines. Opportunities may seem to fall in your lap. Your enthusiasm and joie de vivre attract others, possibly some new acquaintances. It’s also a great time to catch up with old friends and see how they’re doing. Moon enters the sign of Aries at 1:07 a.m. WWW.CONSCIOUSCOMMUNITYMAGAZINE.COM

Tuesday, January 19 The Sun moves into the sign of Aquarius at 2:40 p.m. Happy Birthday dear Aquarius! When the Moon is in Aries and the Sun is in Aquarius, you could be paving the way in business and relationships. You’re passionate and willing to think outside of the box. Taking charge and being a leader and innovator may come easy to you, but make sure there is an equal distribution of work in any partnership. For all relationships to thrive and succeed, there needs to be an overall balance of energy. It doesn’t work if just one of you is putting in all the effort.

Wednesday, January 20 Impulsive, restless and innovative are the keywords for the day when Mars conjoins Uranus. You may be chomping at the bit to get started on a project or flesh out an idea with all this excitable energy. Sparks of inspiration illuminate your mind and you’re eager to see just how you could tie it all together. Take concrete steps right now. It could pave the way to your future goals. Moon VoC at 2:29 a.m. until 12:56 p.m. when it enters the sign of Taurus.

Thursday, January 21 When the Moon squares Jupiter you may be on a quest, searching for answers to life’s questions. While that’s a commendable pursuit, it would be unwise to think you know more than others and try to hit them over the head with your knowledge. Think about what resonates for you and what is true for you. Use this inner wisdom and knowledge to create magic. Overall, the Moon and Jupiter can create waves of generosity and optimism, which can feel wonderful.

Friday, January 22 Your emotions may be influencing your thoughts and conversations, just as your thinking influences

your moods. You could be having a hard time expressing yourself or getting others to understand you when the Moon squares Mercury. Thinking you know more than someone else doesn’t make for good relations. Others may not agree with your opinions either. Take the time to see situations from all sides. Moon VoC at 3:28 p.m.

Saturday, January 23 The Sun conjoins Saturn which emphasizes building something solid. It could be a business, a relationship, something new that will take some effort and time to grow. Patience is a virtue and you’ll have to possess it to stay on point. If you’re organized and focused on the task at hand, you’ll get it completed. It could also be time to wind up any outstanding projects that are on your plate. At the same time, Mars square Jupiter can give you the extra boost you need to get your project off the ground. Your energy and enthusiasm are exciting and admirable, but remember to breathe and slow down a little or you’ll burn yourself out. Moon enters the sign of Gemini at 1:43 a.m.

Thursday, January 28 A lot is happening with this Full Moon. The Full Moon is at 1:16 p.m. at nine degrees in Leo. Jupiter conjoins the Sun and they both oppose the Moon. Mars, not to be left out, squares the Sun and Moon, which makes this a T-square. You or someone else could be stubborn and not able to see past their nose. Emotions could be amplified and conversations become fiery. If you’re afraid of losing your cool and saying something that you’ll regret later, leave the room. Go out for a walk, count to 10…you know the drill. On the flip side, don’t let anyone push you around. Another side of this is that if there is a disagreement maybe you feel this relationship has run its course, and it’s time to release it. Only you can decide what is best for you. Everything happens just as it was supposed to happen. I know it’s a cliché, but it’s so true.

Friday, January 29

What are you wishing for? Your head may be in the clouds when the Moon squares Neptune. Today would be a great time to relax with a good book, watch a movie, listen to music, or tap into your imagination. Have fun playing, the possibilities are endless.

You may feel there’s a decision to be made, but you can’t see what it is when the Moon opposes Mercury. Maybe you don’t have all the facts. Do some investigating and gather more intel to help you make a more informed choice. You or someone else could be expressing themselves in a prickly and painful manner. Take care when speaking, bring it down a notch and try to be kind. Moon VoC at 7:53 p.m.

Monday, January 25

Saturday, January 30

Sunday, January 24

The Moon is void in Aquarius in the morning. Slow down for the moment and take a breath. Everything will get done, don’t stress. Then when the Moon moves into Cancer…well…the energy doesn’t change that much. Spend some time looking after your needs. Some R&R never hurt anyone. Then once you’ve recharged your batteries, you’ll feel more able to handle all that life has in store. Moon VoC at 1:17 a.m. until 12:52 p.m. when it enters the sign of Cancer.

Tuesday, January 26 Making an abrupt change and reversing directions all of a sudden are par for the course when the Sun squares Uranus. Plus, your ego is involved and the desire to express yourself is paramount. Be careful when voicing your opinion that you’re not squashing someone else’s right to expression. Everyone is unique and wants to be heard, so be flexible. You don’t want to lose a friend in the process.

Wednesday, January 27 While the Moon is void in the afternoon, you may want to take stock of your emotions, your relationships and what role you play in the scheme of things. Everything is a result of your choices and actions. You may want a do-over in some areas, but everything you experienced turns out exactly how it was supposed to. Be proud of the life you’ve built. When the Moon is void in Cancer, you could also be thinking of family and want to have a get-together. Time spent with a few people you care about is always a good way to while away the day. Moon VoC at 11:55 a.m. until 8:54 p.m. when it enters the sign of Leo.

Ideas and inspiration are being fuelled when the Moon trines Uranus. You may be able to channel that spark from your heart and mind to a creative project or a fun time with friends. Your enthusiasm is contagious. Be open to new ideas and chance encounters and see what surprises come your way! Mercury Stations Retrograde at 9:52 a.m. Moon enters the sign of Virgo at 2:02 a.m.

Sunday, January 31 Whenever Neptune is involved, there are a few things to be conscious of. You can be more sensitive and pick up on what other people are feeling. There’s the possibility of confusion and not seeing people or situations clearly. Then you may want to lose yourself, it could be with alcohol, social media or binging Netflix. As with all aspects, many potentials can play out; the Moon/ Neptune opposition is no different. So, if you’re feeling confused, vulnerable and maybe hurt by a perceived comment, give yourself some breathing room. Don’t drown your sorrows or indulge in harmful behavior. Everything will clear up soon enough. Look at the situation. Are you acting/ reacting out of past wounds and conditioning? Be present and know you have everything you need inside of you right now.
