PUBLISHER’S LETTER
BECOMING YOUR OWN MASTER T
his February issue is focused on what I feel is one of the most important topics, a topic that many of us struggle with, self-love.
What is self-love? For me, self-love is both seeing myself as and feeling that I am a fully lovable being who is complete. Self-love is an extension and an expression of the Divine. I am fully responsible for my own self-care, physically, mentally, emotionally, and financially. There are many hurdles to self-love, but I will talk about the one that I have struggled with the most, codependency. I was brought up in a house where nobody talked about love or expressed love in a way in which I could feel it. I am the oldest of four kids, and when I was nine, my mother went to the U.S. So, it was up to me to take on the “mom” role, cleaning, cooking, doing homework with siblings, etc. While I grew up to become a woman who is responsible, smart, quick, and funny, I lost the most important person in my life, which was me! I became codependent on other people physically, mentally and emotionally. I lost touch with what is important to me; my dreams, my values and my happiness. When I became aware of my codependency, I knew that I needed to heal myself from it. Otherwise, I would never be happy, joyful and truly free. KATARZYNA (KASIA) SZUMAL PUBLISHER
My road was long, but through practicing yoga and meditation, taking walks in the woods, appreciating myself, and seeking stillness, I came home to myself. I found my own self-governance. Now when I look in the mirror, I see a woman who is becoming her own master. To learn more about shaping the person you see in the mirror, turn to What Do You See In the Mirror? by Ania Haas. One very powerful way in which we can show ourselves self-love is by maintaining a healthy lifestyle. To get some ideas for nutritious and delicious foods, read High Vibe Foods by Betsy Bruns. Love, whether it’s romantic love, friendship, neighborly love, or self-love cannot be forced. Alan Cohen reminds us that “Love has to spring spontaneously from within.” Read Alan’s column, Unlegislated Love, for some more suggestions on how we can encourage love to spring forth in our relationships and our lives. I encourage you to seek love within yourself this month. You will surely find it! Happy Valentine’s Day!

[COMMUNITY Q&A]
ASK ALECIA by Alecia Rice
Q: I’m a spiritual woman who runs in
spiritual circles. I’ve seen a trend lately of lightworkers undermining other lightworkers by judging their way of being, as if somehow, they’re doing it wrong. I’ve been a target of it myself. I find this a disturbing trend, and I’m not quite sure how to process it. Any words of wisdom? — Just Observing A: Dear Just Observing,
All manner of wisdom has been shared throughout the millennia regarding chaotic times like these. One of my favorites is, “Be in the world but not of it.” This concept offers the guidance to understand that while we do live physically on the planet with billions of other human beings, our calling is to raise our consciousness, to BE and create from a higher energetic place that many don’t yet understand. Many of us have learned about the difference between 3D (the real world out there) and 5D (the thought/being energetic world inside). Our beliefs and thoughtforms create new higher ways of being, which beckon us to bridge heaven and Earth by embodying higher spiritual concepts, and yet-to-be-realized modes of energetic creation. This makes us Energetic Revolutionaries of Light. We each have a very specific spiritual purpose and calling, “a spiritual
occupation,” if you will. We come hardwired with passions to live out that purpose. We’re called to BE and DO in our unique way, which isn’t for anyone else to question or judge. In these times, we must follow our hearts and our guidance as to how we, as unique individuals, are meant to shine as beacons of light and possibility in this world, while breaking from the herd to be way-showers of a new way. As lightworkers, many of us struggle somewhere between setting our spiritual ambitions and meeting those goals, which can cause us to be hard on ourselves. This can then cause us to be hard on others, due to our own discontent with not being our highest vision. We must be mindful that even though we are a tribe that stands in the highest intention of raising conscious awareness on the planet, every single one of us comes with our own unique mission. For unity, it’s important not to judge other lightworkers, but to hold space for who they are and what they do as their own energy signature, which represents their unique flavor of work on the planet. Trust them to know themselves, while we do the same for ourselves, for there’s BIG work to be done. If they are imbalanced, hold space for their highest good. Some are meant to be the provocateurs and the agitators to wake the collective
up to a spiritual and conscious revolution. Others are sensitive empaths that aren’t meant to take that job on because their nervous systems can’t take it. Others came to fully embody love, so that others might be touched by the magic of that unconditional experience. Still others are called to create conscious media, which stimulates the body, mind and spirit through images, words and sounds that bypass the mind, moving energy through the more subtle subconscious channels. We have different jobs, each of which requires a distinct set of skills and abilities to fulfill our unique part of the energetic puzzle. It’s imperative to remember this as the collective shadow rises to the surface to be healed. It’s of the utmost importance to manage our imbalances so as not to leak our energy onto those who have a different job to do. Most importantly, we need to honor those of our tribe who believe the same things yet whose calling may look different. Don’t undermine their work. None of us gets to decide or determine the right/wrong, good/bad of how others are doing it. If we find ourselves doing so, it’s important to notice and make a conscious notation, that’s not who we want to be, point ourselves in another direction, and resist the temptation to get in someone else’s business. They know who they are, where they’re going, and how they’re supposed to get there. It’s not up to another to make that assumption. We need to keep our eyes on our path. There’s no time to be siphoning off another lightworkers energy through judgment. Merely hold them up, trusting them to be clear on their path and purpose. It’s challenging enough for us to figure out how to complete our mission. Alecia Rice is a Spiritual Alchemist and a personal advisor for those ready to unravel their issues with conscious choices. ONLY THIS LOVE A Spiritual Approach by Katie Davis All love is one Love and when we fall in love with one another, it is said that we are experiencing the Divine. Rumi, a 13th century Sufi poet, defines love as a mystical moment, when two spiritually connected individuals meet. We call it love at first sight. In this meeting of eyes, Rumi romantically writes, we not only experience the union of two loving souls, but also the Love that is the crux of the universe. Whether ethereal or everyday love, such as mother for child, when this cherished moment appears, we often have the misperception that someone or some other thing caused this rising in Love. In truth, we lose ourselves. This disappearance creates a crevice through which radiant love shines. There is only This Love and it is ever-present. Love requires no other. Kirtana, a lovely songwriter and guitarist, sings, “Beloved, I have been waiting throughout time to welcome you into these arms of mine.” Free of any other, in an effortless, spontaneous instant, Kirtana dissolved, the present moment disappeared, and only Beloved remained. The Beloved is the sacred substratum of our existence, which is free of lovers altogether. It does not reside within the confines of time. It is discovered in the twinkling of an eye of no time. 8
| CONSCIOUS COMMUNITY MAGAZINE FEBRUARY 2021
This Self-discovery allows unconditional love to emerge into our lives, our relationships and into the world. As time travelers, we are identified as being a lover who loves someone else. As long as this subject-object relationship remains, true love cannot thrive. We expect and demand this or that to satisfy our self-created sense of lack. This lack is the ego’s belief in individuality as identity and its separation. It manifests in this world as the never-ending search for personal love, gratification and acceptance. The false sense of “me” hopelessly pretends to separate from Totality and then expects someone else to fill the resulting pain gap. It fears the loss of a lover; it feels jealous, competes and needs. It voices its love for the Divine and faithfully expresses deep longing. Yet, it stubbornly insists upon maintaining its sense of separation and of course, the result is suffering. Nonsensically, it then blames someone else for the pain. It is the divided one, who is longing and searching, that sustains our estrangement. Love is not personal. It cannot be gained through any other. Love cannot be given to you, nor can it be threatened or taken away. It is essentially who you are. When you are seeking a lover, you are actually searching for love. You are overlooking
that you are what you are seeking, which is why it cannot be found. Before you continue this search, my invitation is to discover that you are love’s fulfillment. In this discovery, you then have the opportunity to meet romantic love in wholeness. You are free of the pre-existing condition and pain gap. You no longer need to complete yourself. If you are already in a problemtaic realtionship, such as personal relationships can only be, as true lovers, you can disappear together. Free of “you” and “me,” we intimately rise above the push and pull of personal relationship and preciously fall into the Love that we are. In its purity and wholeness, Love is synonymous with Selfrealization. It is the true wisdom and maturity of the human Being. Then, romantic love does not need to bloom. When the perfect lover appears, the Rose already is. Unconditional love surrounds us and it originates from the Ocean within you. We do not need to seek love for living, in the same manner that the spinner dolphin does not cry for water while swimming. The mind has its idea of perfection and what it needs to be happy. All the while, we are the very joy that we are seeking. The separate self is the time-based mind’s attempt to divide and it will prove to be futile, since separation is unattainable. Its sense of lack is its own demise. Whereas Selfrealization is an ease, since it is already complete. Fulfillment means completion, not a fractional part, and love’s completion is the discovery of who you really are. After all, a drop of water does not separate to be a part of the ocean, but rather dissolves its partiality.

Desire inherently contains its opposite, which is fear. So while we are creating our personal desires, we are also creating poverty, greed, sexual obsession, power over others in the herd, and every form of lack. In other words, when we desire, we are also saying that we lack. Consequently, both seem to be created. If we are acquiring in order to be happier at a future time, ever-present joy will elude us, since it is not a future endeavor. It is here now, uncaused, and free of every-thing. The dual mind will prove to be ravenous for its desires, as it runs from its fears. Its bottom line will always be “more!” When it finally discovers that its treasures only provide a fleeting happiness, it discovers the root of its longing; the realization of the Heart. The spaciousness within you is joy’s way. You are welcome to continue collecting things to try to fill that space, as some sort of future compensation, but things and circumstances within time is not where joy resides. In the meantime, you needlessly suffer, while hoping for personal empowerment that at best can only be partial. Sooner or later, it will be recognized that the space around all of your accumulations is the direction and that it originates from within. Essence is deeper than “you and your thoughts,” and more profound than “your attention.” It is the pure attention of the loving Heart; the only omnipotent power of the universe: Love. [ A C T I VAT E A N D A L I G N Y O U R P O W E R ]
WHAT DO YOU SEE IN THE MIRROR? by Ania Haas How can you know who you are and experience self-realization? Everyone and everything around you gives you hints about yourself. You perceive the world not as it is but as you and your internal programs allow you. Basically, we all perceive the world in slightly different ways. Every person you meet holds a mirror and shows you bits and pieces of yourself as a reflection in that mirror. You can recognize the pieces of yourself in individuals you admire, and you can also be triggered by others which may bring up feelings of rejection, not being loved, or not being accepted. All those mirrors are important to look at without preference; that one is better than the other, because they are perfectly designed to be used in process work. Awakening, finding inner power and achieving your goals are processes connected to letting go of the shadows—aspects of yourself that you don’t like, don’t accept, or push away—along with strengthening the aspects of yourself that you like and would like to grow. True self-work starts with honest self-evaluation, which begins with allowing yourself to be curious, loving and friendly to what comes through observation. Last month, I invited you to send emails to five of your friends to give you information about the talents and unique characteristics that they see in you. If you didn’t have a chance to do it, you can read about it online at https://consciouscommunity magazine.com/why-you-dont-get-the-things-you-want. This exercise is a wonderful way to understand how others perceive you and to start building your awareness. With this activity, your feelings about yourself can be confirmed, or just the opposite, you might receive a note that surprises you. Either way, take the feedback you receive, look at it, break it down and feel how it resonates inside of you. For example, if someone told you that you are a great listener; think of the last time you listened well, recall how you listened and connected to the speaker. Did you listen to the voice or connect through emotions? Did you ask questions back? Or, maybe you used your body to show your engagement in the conversation? Give yourself space and time to take this journey inside. After that, recall a couple of times when you didn’t listen so well and ask yourself how you felt. What emotions trigger when you think of those experiences? Ask yourself what 10
| CONSCIOUS COMMUNITY MAGAZINE FEBRUARY 2021
impacted it? What prevented you from being present for the other person? Finally, connect those two pieces and think of ways to improve your listening skills. Building self-awareness in the process of self-evaluation is a foundation of becoming authentically yourself, your realized self. Self-evaluation is not a one-time test and then all is done. It is an ongoing process of “checking-in” and becoming aware of yourself in each moment. When you are strengthening your awareness muscle, working on letting go of the past heavy experiences, releasing emotions (shadows) and surrounding yourself with positive emotions, activities and people, you are not only helping yourself to feel good, becoming more powerful and achieving more, but also, you are helping others. Emotionally intelligent people are the ones that can stop, feel and respond with clarity, without emotional charge. What are some other ways to practice non-judgment and self-awareness? Pay attention to the way you feel. Stop and look for sensations and delay your response. Become aware of how your mood impacts others. Ask yourself what triggers your emotions, and what types of emotions are being triggered? Observe how your emotions and moods impact your work and performance. If you would like to share your experience with me, or if you have any questions, please send me an email at info@aniahaas. com. I’m sending you lots of good energy. See you next month! WHEN I WAS SOMEONE ELSE by Stéphane Allix For a week, I have been living like a hermit. I live alone in a small hut built in the middle of the Amazon rainforest. I have embarked on a retreat after working intensely for years. I’ve been longing to take this time off, to escape from the day-to-day and get to know myself again. Now here I am—no phone, no email, no books, no distractions; a rare and precious moment that I intend to use to take stock of my life. The sun has been rising for several hours and is already high, and eagles circle above my head in the clear sky. I do my morning exercises before it gets too hot. I feel good, muscles relaxed, and energy flowing freely through my body. My mind is finally calm. Intuitively I suddenly feel that I must settle down, be still, and listen to my feelings. I lie down on my little wooden bed and close my eyelids. I’m not sure why I’m doing this; 12
| CONSCIOUS COMMUNITY MAGAZINE FEBRUARY 2021
I just daydream. My eyes are closed, and my mind starts to wander. The first thing I visualize is where I am: a tiny house built in the middle of the rainforest, located just above a shallow river in the foothills of the Peruvian Andes. I see the river as if I am flying high above it, as if I were a bird; an eagle. At this moment, I am fully aware that I am the one imagining this vision. Then, something unexpected happens. An image that surprises me, that I did not put together, and which nevertheless stands out clearly: I am still flying over the river, but I suddenly observe men advancing. At this height, they are small black dots. So I get closer and, as I fly closer to the ground, the vegetation disappears, the river disappears and gives way to a uniform white landscape, as if covered with snow. I am at their level
now; and I am shocked to see that these men are soldiers, and there are tanks too. Now I see that they are Germans, and this is war. And strangely, I am one of them—an SS officer. I am injured; shrapnel has torn through my neck, and cut my jugular vein. And now I see I am dying. Captivated and amazed by the intensity of what is going on, I realize that I am at once lying on a bunk in Peru, and that I am catapulted into another time, another place, into another being. Suddenly I know what this officer is called. His name is Alexander Herrmann. I know this to be absolutely true and I am sure he is in the SS. “Obersturmführer” flashed in my mind—I who do not speak a word of German. Then comes the number 25, the meaning of which I do not understand. I can’t see the man’s face well, but I see him walking in a landscape of desolation and corpses. Everything is white, as if covered with plaster dust or snow. The silhouettes are black. Faces are screaming. My throat is dry. He wears a long dark coat. He is tall, lean, but well-built and muscular. The scene of his death, my death, repeats. I experience several more visions — they are scenes from his life crashing before my eyes —scenes from his civilian life. Then I see him collapse again, blood pulsing from his throat, spilling over his collar, onto the floor. He holds his neck, his life slips away. His gaze fades. A white dust covers him. The earth around him is pulverized by explosions and covered with snow. There is fire, fury, and intense cold. He is dead. The vision is over, and a half hour has passed unnoticed. The experience is totally unexpected. I don’t understand it, nor do I understand the astonishing force with which it came upon me. Did I imagine all of this? And if so, why? Who is Alexander? What just happened? In the days that followed, the images of this German failed to fade. The memory of him will not leave my mind. I see him everywhere, in the forest, and hear the sounds of war in the din of the insects at night. Who is this man who appeared from the depths of darkness, entered my reality, and remains there, in me? I see this sinister landscape again, death, violence, his gaze ... Alexander will not leave my consciousness, and when I return to France, I cannot forget him. I find myself haunted by him. And when I decide to find out more, I discover this man really existed, and that he died under the exact circumstances “seen” in my vision. And when I do further research and get my hands on the military file of SS-Obersturmführer, Alexander Herrmann, kept like that of tens of thousands of other SS officers, at the National Archives in College Park, Maryland, I am astonished. This man is me. Stéphane Allix is a journalist, former war correspondent, and founder of the Institute for Research on Extraordinary Experiences (INREES). He is the author of The Test: Incredible Proof of the Afterlife, and the writer and director of the French television series Extraordinary Investigations (Enquêtes extraordinaires). THE INTERACTIVE IMPULSE by Jakeb Brock One of the most basic laws of physics involves the physical reality that a vessel can only hold a certain amount of content (whether solid, liquid, gas or energy) before it fills to capacity. Once at capacity, any attempt to add new content will fail unless some of the previous substance is emptied out. This same law comes into play as we explore new depths of consciousness. When practicing mindfulness, it does not take long for us to observe the various characteristics that consistently color our thinking and emoting. We might acknowledge a certain train of thought as dominantly anxious or troubled. Eventually, after observing such qualities about our thoughts and emotions, we may wish we could do something to change or eradicate them. This desire to interact with our perceived inner workings 14
| CONSCIOUS COMMUNITY MAGAZINE FEBRUARY 2021
constitutes a second phase to the practice of mindfulness. First comes observation; then comes the interactive impulse. There are different stages or levels of interaction. At first, we tend to target a particular thought or emotion, judge it as undesirable, and then try to change or delete it. After a while, we may begin to feel overwhelmed with this singular approach. The more attuned we become, the more we realize that most of our conditioned thoughts and emotions are undesirable. To further compound this dilemma, we realize that the good thoughts and emotions that we wish to have are being kept at arm’s length by the physical law of capacity replacement. We come to understand that our inner world is like a vessel— one that when filled to the brim with troublesome conditioned thoughts and emotions has no capacity to take in any new
content. This can be a discouraging realization, but there’s good news. The emptying of our psyche’s vessel can be achieved by an act of our own interactive consciousness. When it seems as though our good is being withheld from us, it’s not because of some whim on behalf of the universal life force. Rather, it is because we have not emptied out the toxic content of our conditioned minds. All we have to do is to empty ourselves out. The filling takes place according to universal law.
Spiritual authority is different than the kind of authority we see commonly accepted in the world. It has nothing whatsoever to do with worldly accreditations—nothing to do with diplomas, letters following one’s name, or years of experience in a certain field. True spiritual authority comes through enlightened consciousness expansion and development. Once our consciousness has been thusly imbued, we will be able to detect a new authority inherent in all our dealings, especially those of an inward nature.
The practice of mindfulness often reveals this disconcerting reality: our thoughts and emotions are not really our own. This is because we are all products of our infantile conditioning. This is not a case of an occasional isolated conditioned thought or emotion. Our conditioning has effectually commandeered our entire mental apparatus and has taken over our identity somewhere along the way.
Without true authority behind it, our interactive impulse may meet with resistance. Our conditioned mindset will be reluctant to give way and vacate. Even when this is the case, we can be assured that we are on the right track. The important work— recognizing that our conditioned self is not who we really are— has been done and leaving our conditioning behind is only a matter of time and persistence.
Instead of our thoughts and emotions being representative of our true self, they belong to an identity that was imposed upon us in childhood—a cloned version of the collective human entity with all of its common fears, beliefs and reality views transmitted via human culture. That is why it is often referred to as “cultural conditioning.” Logically then, the stronger and more confident the collective entity is in its cultural indoctrination, the more overpowering our infantile conditioning will be. We are living in a time when our cultural conditioning is stronger than ever before.
Once we have gained the necessary authority, we will find that we can move mountains with our interactive impulse. We can then practice pouring out our conditioned self with all of its residual aspects daily. We will be able to experience our psyche’s vessel being emptied out and subsequently filled with the elixir of goodness and new life—the substance of the benign universal life force that pulsates through our world.
There is no such thing as one correct reality view. There is your individual view; there is my individual view, and there are seven billion other reality views; all of which are valid and correct. The onslaught of cultural conditioning renders our individual views as hopelessly neglected and undeveloped. We yield to the collective mindset and consider it to be the only valid reality view. Our true reality view has its origins in our individual perceptions, and this function of a human being is impossible to clone. Every individual in our world, if allowed to perceive things freely, would have a totally unique reality view. Through infantile conditioning, this uniqueness is squelched. The practice of mindfulness acts like the antidote to conditioning. It allows us to first observe the conditioned state of our inner world. Then it empowers us to interact with our mental apparatus and successfully reprogram it. The interactive impulse inherent in the practice of mindfulness sets us free as individuals to be fully ourselves. The one catch to all this is that our conditioning tends to be so deeply ingrained that it takes a strong display of authority to root it out and unseat it. It does not leave easily but must be commanded to do so by a strong interactive impulse. Observation is a necessary first step in this equation. Before we can do anything, we must shine the light of awareness on our habitual inner workings and expose them. We must make the unconscious conscious. To be set free, we must go one step further and act out the role of authoritarian.
This same wonderful practice will bring us yet another benefit. It will plug up all the places in our psyche where vital life energies have been consistently draining out of us. This draining is the result of our conditioning’s fearful, anxious and bitter composition. These negatively charged psychic energies have had free rein within us and have inundated our psyche’s membrane with holes. They act like an acid-based compound that burns through whatever substance they come into contact with. That is why so many people suffer from chronic illnesses, listlessness and fatigue. They simply have no gas in their tanks. Their gas (vital life energy) has been steadily draining away for years. But our authoritative interactive impulse immediately plugs up the acid holes in our psyche, thereby putting an end to the drain. The more we practice emptying our vessel of our former conditioning and letting the universe fill it with new life, the more neutralized and sweet our thoughts and emotions become. Our inner world is then both shored up and renewed so that we are free to be our unique individual selves. The universal life force moves in to fill us anew without any prompting on our part. We need not pray, plead or even ask. It happens automatically based on the created laws of physics. Our part is only to follow the interactive impulse inherent in the second phase of our practice of mindfulness, to confront our conditioned mindset and put it to flight. UNLEGISLATED LOVE by Alan Cohen A friend told me, “Marriage is a great institution if you don’t mind living in an institution.” Since February is the month of lovers, let’s take a look at what it takes to be a great lover and find great love. The funny thing about love is that the more you try to organize it, the less like love it becomes. As spiritual master Meher Baba noted, “Love has to spring spontaneously from within and It is in no way amenable to any form of inner or outer force. Love and coercion can never go together; but though love cannot be forced upon anyone, it can be awakened in him through love itself.” People usually institutionalize things when they don’t trust life to take care of itself naturally and spontaneously. I’m not saying that institutions are bad or that we should not have them; they serve a purpose. But institutions have a way of becoming hollow shells that the heart gradually dies out of. Most religions, for example, began with a genuine enlightenment experience by a prophet whom God spoke to. That experience was so powerful that it inspired others to follow in their footsteps. The glitch in that formula is that if you really want to meet God, you have to follow in your own footsteps, not those of another. It’s more about energy than action; more about consciousness than behavior.
16
Suddenly a shaft of light broke through the leaves above him and he realized he was one with all life, eternally whole, and filled with peace. In other words, he became enlightened. When the fellow returned to the village, everyone realized there was something extraordinary about him; he had been transformed and he glowed with a new light. When the villagers asked him, “What happened to you?” he explained, “I was just sitting on the big rock down by the river eating an avocado. A beam of light fell upon me, and I saw God.” The next morning when the tribesman awoke, he found no one in the village. He looked in all the huts, but everyone had mysteriously disappeared. Finally he decided to give up searching and just go back to the rock he loved to sit on. When he arrived, he was amazed to find all the people from the village clustered on the rock, avocados in hand, scrambling to get to the top of the rock. Silly as this parable sounds, it’s not very different from the way we try to institutionalize spirit. The key to the tribesman’s illumination is that he sat on his favorite rock enjoying his avocado. The villagers would have met God more quickly and directly by going to their own sacred places rather than legislating his.
A friend of mine studied with a Native American shaman whom she adored. One day my friend asked the shaman, “How can I be more like you?” The shaman gave the best answer I ever heard: “If you want to be more like me, be more like yourself.” He was teaching that the road to enlightenment is paved with authenticity, not imitation.
Great relationships are built on joy, choice, and full presence. If you meet in the temple upheld by those pillars, you are in a holy place indeed. You fuel the flame of love by being fully alive yourself, and when your partner is fully alive too, you have a bonfire. If one or both of you brings less than full life to the altar, the relationship becomes a charade of fear, and it will wither and die.
The story is told about an African tribesman who went to his favorite rock by a river and sat there eating an avocado.
Abraham-Hicks suggests an odd but meaningful marriage vow; “I like you pretty good, and I plan to stick with you as long as
| CONSCIOUS COMMUNITY MAGAZINE FEBRUARY 2021
being together brings joy to both of us.” While such a vow may sound scary if you are afraid your relationship might not last without more of a commitment, it can be empowering if you recognize that commitment to life is the foundation of great relationships. If you stay true to your spirit and your partner stays true to his or her spirit, and you find yourself paddling in the same canoe, you are in the best ride of your life. I heard about a spiritual community in Italy at which married couples renew their marriage contract on an annual basis. Each year the couple revisits their agreement to be together and they ask each other if they want to remain married for another year. I rather like this formula, since that’s how it is anyway. We are all making it up as we go along. Commitment is important, and a meaningful lifetime commitment can be highly empowering. Just be sure that your commitment is less about time in your life, and more about life in your time. St. John of the Cross said, “Take God for your spouse and friend and walk with Him continually, and you will not sin and will learn to love, and the things you must do will work out prosperously for you.” The Steve Winwood song “Higher Love” bears the same message: Show up as yourself, trust life and love, let higher power orchestrate your relationship, and no rule you make will be as powerful as the joy you feel together when willingness is your motivator. THE NEW/FULL MOON ENERGY for February 2021
by Donna Stellhorn On Jan. 28, there is a Full Moon in Leo, putting the focus on pleasure, romance, and risk-taking. Curiosity chases away fear. Consider trying something new, and bringing a little adventure into your life. This is also a good time to find love. If you’re looking for a relationship, this is the time to put your profile up on an online dating site. On Feb. 1, Venus enters Aquarius bringing positive energy for connecting with friends and the community, especially through electronic means. If you have been dragging your feet about video conferencing, now it’s time to ask your 10-year-old nephew to help you get online. On Feb. 12, the New Moon in Aquarius marks the Lunar New Year and the Year of the Metal Ox. This energy is about simplifying your life, going back to basics and rebuilding. In Ox years, it’s time to strap on the yoke and plow the fields. The work ahead is straightforward and simple, and there’s a lot of it! Success comes from hard work. (Check out my YouTube 18

channel for video predictions for the Year of the Metal Ox.) On Feb. 17, Saturn squares Uranus. Rigid aspects of your life could be shattered. It’s good to be flexible at this time. On the positive side, Uranus can open up new ways of doing things that save you time, money and energy. On Feb. 18, the Sun goes into Pisces. Pisces is about dissolving boundaries. This could be the boundary between you and the Universe, helping you feel more spiritually connected. It also could dissolve a boundary between you and a virus. It’s important to use man-made boundaries at this time. Mercury is retrograde until Feb. 20. Try to avoid getting a parking ticket, as you might get two. If buying jewelry or highend clothing, make sure you can return it in case you change your mind later. If your home is for sale, try not to lower the price now as Mercury retrograde could cause
you to lower it a second time. On Feb. 25, Venus, the planet of love, enters romantic Pisces. At the same time, action-oriented Mars makes a trine to obsessive Pluto. This combination can focus your attention on a single goal. While this could be a love relationship, it could also be an art project, a business venture or a topic of study. And finally, on Feb. 27, there is the Full Moon in Virgo, focusing your energy on health and daily routines. We’ll talk more about this next month.
Aries There’s an expanding circle of friendships this month. You might be heading up a local community or church group. Extracurricular activities are fine, but your main focus is on making money. Saturn squaring Uranus focuses change energy on your standing in the world. Avoid posting controversial memes on social media or other things that could damage your reputation. This month, you might change your wardrobe or hairstyle.
There’s a lot of healing energy around you. You’re recuperating and finding yourself more balanced and peaceful. Money from career improves, and you could get more sales commission or a possible increase. You may be spending some time alone. Perhaps your sweetheart is away visiting family. You may be considering a change in vehicles; however, it would be ideal to wait until after Mercury goes direct on Feb. 20. Saturn squaring Uranus could increase your interest in tarot cards or channeling.

HIGH VIBE FOODS For the Heart by Betsy Bruns
Welcome to February, the month where we celebrate the heart—in health and in love—with both Valentine’s Day and National Heart Health Month! In Feb. 2016, I spent the days by my sister’s side as she recovered from open heart bypass surgery. It was her 52nd birthday. In the year leading up to this event, I inquired with her medical team about the impact of a plant-based diet on her heart health and asked the team to consider food as a way to heal. 20
| CONSCIOUS COMMUNITY MAGAZINE FEBRUARY 2021
My attempts to support my sister in recovering her health more naturally were dismissed. I can’t lay blame on health care providers. Given that our current medical system receives little training in nutrition, why would they view food as medicine? My sister had the surgery, endured a painful recovery and ended up back in the same boat just a year later. This time she made a different choice. These same doctors were shocked to learn that, although her first heart bypass had
failed and she was facing another, she chose to refuse surgery and heal with food instead. Several months into her plant-based journey, she met with her cardiologist. Upon examination, after a nuclear stress test, it was confirmed that she no longer needed the surgery. The cardiologist was so shocked and so impressed with these results he later went plant-based too. Eating a highly raw, whole-food, plantbased diet did for my sister what
pharmaceutical drugs, five stents and invasive surgery could not do. She healed her heart disease and many other medical conditions by avoiding meat, dairy and eggs, and replacing them with fruits, vegetables, grains and beans. My life transformation was more emotional than physical. When I gave up meat nine years ago, I noticed a greater sense of peace and my “vibe” was higher. I was more joyful and loving. I’ve come across many others, including my sister, who have had similar experiences.
Salt, to taste Pepper, to taste Fresh basil, to taste Scallions, for garnish Wash and dry the squash and zucchini. Cut off the stems and cut the squash and zucchini in half. Use a vegetable spiralizer to turn the squash and zucchini into spaghetti-shaped noodles. Peel and cut shallots into thin rounds.
What is the magic of plant-based eating which not only helps heal the physical body but also helps to heal the emotional body too? How does it help to heal our hearts? I believe it has to do with love. When we make food choices from a higher perspective, vibration or intent, such as self-love, self-care, love of animals or for the planet, we are compassion in action. We are living love. We vibrate higher on all levels. This can only lead to a healthier heart in every way.
HIGH VIBE VALENTINE SMOOTHIE* 1 cup water or plant-based milk substitute of choice ½ cup frozen cherries ½ cup chopped raw beets ½ cup frozen strawberries 1 banana 1 handful of spinach (optional) Ice, as needed Add liquid to the blender. Then add the remaining ingredients. Blend until smooth.
ZUCCHINI NOODLES WITH GARLIC-ROASTED TOMATO SAUCE** Makes 4 Servings 2 medium green zucchini squash 2 medium yellow squash 2 medium shallots 1 tablespoon chopped garlic 10 halved cherry tomatoes 4 tablespoons (or more) water for sautéing
Add water to a 24-inch skillet and heat until smoky. Turn heat down to medium and add shallots, garlic, and zucchini and squash noodles. Stir with a wooden spoon for two minutes. Add cherry tomatoes. Cook for five minutes while stirring. Finish by seasoning with salt, pepper and fresh basil. Serve hot in a bowl with scallions. COSMIC DAILY WEATHER February 2021 by Bernadette Evans
Overview
This month, Mercury is still retrograde in Aquarius until Feb. 20. You may want to use this time to rethink some of your ideas. By reevaluating and doing some revisions, you may really like the improved and finished project. When Mercury is retrograde, remember that emails and texts sometimes get lost in transit. If you haven’t heard from someone you were expecting to, double check if the message was sent. As well as Mercury, there is a lot of Aquarian energy this month. Saturn will be there for approximately another two years. Jupiter will be in-out (because of its retrograde) for most of the year. It’s the Sun’s yearly 30-day journey through the sign of Aquarius, as well as Venus stopping by for a quick visit. Then let’s not forget about the Moon’s monthly cycle! All of this energy is in an Air sign. Air is quick; messages are usually passed back and forth lightning quick, but…Mercury is retrograde. Air likes to communicate, and in Aquarius, the ideas can be quite ingenious. Aquarius is also a fixed sign, which could foster stubbornness in some people. Be open to what someone else has to say and their ideas. It could prove enlightening. Mars is still meandering through Taurus. As frustrating as that can be for Mars, who likes to move fast, it could be the spark that keeps you plugging away on a new enterprise. Another positive of Mars being in Taurus is that Taurus is sensual. You might want to splurge on something beautiful that feels, tastes, sounds or looks good. This month, try to stay grounded if you can. Thinking outside of the box is great, and we all need new and improved ways of doing things. But, get out of your head once in a while. Do something physical and try and be present. You’ll be glad you did. Have a great month! Moon VoC is Moon Void of Course. The times are listed in Central Standard Time (CST).

| CONSCIOUS COMMUNITY MAGAZINE FEBRUARY 2021
Monday, February 1 Venus enters the sign of Aquarius at 8:05 a.m. When the Sun squares Mars, you’re in the mood to act. Your focus and determination could bring you the results you’ve been waiting for. Maybe you’re working on a relationship. Whether it’s a personal partnership or a working one, there are many stages. Tempers could flare from either you or another, and no one is backing down. Don’t let stubbornness, anger or your ego override your emotions. Moon VoC at 5:10 a.m. until 5:25 a.m. when it enters the sign of Libra.
Tuesday, February 2 You’re seeking connection when the Moon’s in Libra. There’s a desire to be with friends, wanting to laugh and forget about your troubles. Remember, don’t be afraid to reach out to others; everyone needs to love and feel loved. Don’t suffer in silence, or let negative thoughts plague you. Do something that brings you joy. Let go of limiting beliefs that are holding you back and trust the process and that know you’ve got this.
Wednesday, February 3 When the Moon’s in Scorpio squaring Venus and Saturn, you may feel like you’re being constrained. It could be of your own making, or there could be someone else pulling the strings. You could be trying to maintain a semblance of order in your life by controlling every element. Balance is necessary to keep your sanity. What can you let go of that
wouldn’t cause you too much distress? You may breathe a quiet sigh of relief. There’s a desire to know more about yourself and go deeper in your relationship. Of course, that will require you to go within and examine the darker shadow sides of yourself. Trust your intuition to show you what you need to know. Moon VoC at 12:15 a.m. until 8:15 a.m. when it enters the sign of Scorpio.
Thursday, February 4 You may be feeling irritated when the Moon squares Sun and you’re not exactly sure why. Other people may be getting under your skin. You may be in your head and over-thinking everything. If you can, take a walk outside and breathe in some fresh air. Put a pause on all the ruminating and just be. Give yourself a break and try not to be too hard on those around you either.
Friday, February 5 You may be feeling like you’re all alone and that no one understands you or is there for you when Venus conjoins Saturn. There’s the possibility you’re having a hard time connecting with others, which then could cause you to pull even further into yourself and isolate even more. If a relationship is ending, there will be sadness and grief. Express your emotions and let your tears flow, it will help you heal. Venus and Saturn together are about building strong relationships. Loyalty is valued. A healthy relationship could become even stronger at this time. Venus is also about your finances; money could be tight, so watch your spending. Moon VoC at 3:20 a.m. until 11:16 a.m. when it enters the sign of Sagittarius.
Saturday, February 6 When Venus squares Uranus there could be sudden changes in your relationships. Someone new could appear, or a relationship may suddenly be over. You may be looking for more freedom in your partnership; maybe you or your partner need more space. It could be as simple as carving out some “me time.” There’s a desire for some excitement; instead of looking outside of your relationship, you could try spicing it up with your significant other. A word of caution, be careful of impulse shopping and getting caught up in the thrill of buying something. The fabulous item you bought yesterday may not look so great tomorrow.
Sunday, February 7 The Moon is void in Sagittarius for a good part of the day. You could find yourself reflecting, looking back at where you’ve been and where you’re headed. Spend some time contemplating what you’d like your future to look like. Think of all the ways you could get there. You’re not alone. You have inner resources, resilience and friends that are there to cheer you on and support you. Moon VoC at 12:16 a.m. until 2:32 p.m. when it enters the sign of Capricorn.
Monday, February 8 The Sun and Mercury are conjoined, meaning communication and knowledge are highlighted. You
want to be free to express yourself. Getting your ideas out there is important to you. Likewise, you’re open to learning something new and expanding your awareness of the world around you. You’re attracted to unusual ideas and ways of thinking and not afraid to think outside the box.
Saturday, February 13
Emotions could be amplified when the Moon conjoins Pluto. Moodiness or depression could be present and you’re not sure how to get out of the funk or if you want to. It’s a process, so be patient with yourself. Slow and steady wins the race. Look at yourself and how far you’ve come. What are your thoughts? Tune into your thoughts for a moment…your thoughts can take you down a dark road. Can you catch yourself when you’re thinking something negative and turn it around? Try it and see what happens. You’re a child of the Universe and have a lot to offer. Remember that. Moon VoC at 11:22 a.m. until 7:20 p.m. when it enters the sign of Aquarius.
There’s a lot of talking going on. Friends, co-workers, everyone has their own vision of what they want to create. Their visions are probably different from yours and that’s okay. The JupiterMercury-Venus conjunction means there is a lot of ideas being floated around by friends and colleagues. Some of it may feel like it’s from left field…after all, these signs are in Aquarius, where thinking is often wacky, wild, unconventional and sometimes misunderstood. The Mars sextile Neptune could amplify the intuitive hits you get, connecting the physical world with the spiritual realm. Remember, these are all concepts until someone decides to act on them. Have faith in your ideas, devise a plan and execute it. As if you aren’t busy enough…when Mercury conjoins Venus, someone may try to sweep you off your feet with poetry or song. It’s Valentine’s Day a day early! You may be on the receiving end of the attention and compliments, or maybe you’re the one expressing affection for another.

Tuesday, February 9
There are six out of 10 planets in Aquarius! Wow… that’s a lot of energy in Air. It’s the prelude to tomorrow’s New Moon in Aquarius. There’s the potential to create partnerships where you and everyone else are throwing out new ideas—putting your heads together to come up with some brilliant concepts. It’s a lot of fun riffing off of each other’s imaginings and building on them. Tune into your intuitive side and have fun. Remember to leave space for everyone to contribute their ideas.
Thursday, February 11 The New Moon’s in Aquarius at 1:06 p.m. This New Moon emphasizes originality and being an intellectual pioneer. You have a unique vision and a voice that needs to be heard. Speak from the heart and be you; there’s not another human like you on the planet. Venus conjoins Jupiter bringing a feeling of optimism to the day. You could be feeling generous and inspired, wanting to hang out with friends. With all of this Aquarian energy, you could feel like you’re different and you don’t belong; like you’re the outsider. A lot of people may be feeling the same as you. Sometimes, instead of focusing on yourself and what’s not working, it boosts you up when you help someone else. Moon VoC at 1:06 p.m. and void the rest of the day.
Friday, February 12 Happy Chinese New Year! The Pisces Moon sextiles Uranus, bringing with it an opportunity to not only hear messages from your higher self but also encouraging you to act on them. What excites you? What are you passionate about? With hard work and determination, you can get the wheels turning and make your vision a reality. You may have someone in your corner who wants to help you. Be open to all the help the Universe wants to give you. Moon enters the sign of Pisces at 1:23 a.m.
Happy Valentine’s Day! The Moon in Aries usually points to taking initiative, being confident and a leader; so, don’t focus on past mistakes or past loves. Be here now and replace any feelings of doubt, scarcity or loss with gratitude and joy. The Mercury Jupiter conjunction can help you see the big picture. Focus on all the blessings in your life and watch them multiply. Mercury and Jupiter together could infuse the day with optimism and wit. Have fun. Moon VoC at 1:29 a.m. until 9:54 a.m. when it enters the sign of Aries.
Monday, February 15 The Moon sextiles Mercury, Jupiter and Venus, emphasizing communication, abundance and relationships. You could be invited to a small get together, where you can let your hair down and have some fun. The Moon in Aries can be impulsive at times, so keep that in mind when mingling with others. You may be feeling optimistic and thinking about your plans. What do you need to do to turn your dreams into reality? Be charming, persuasive and honest in your business dealings and personal life. Enjoy the energy and all the advantages that are right in front of you.
Tuesday, February 16 Emotions are magnified when the Moon squares Pluto. Someone may explode and you’re not sure why. Stay calm, don’t react, take a breath, and respond quietly and calmly. It could be that someone wants to prove they’re right and you’re not. It’s about power and control. It’s not actually about you. Something is going on in their life, and you just happened to be the lucky recipient of their wrath. It doesn’t make it okay, but hopefully, you’ll be able to see it as someone having a bad day, and they’ll apologize. Moon VoC at 6:17 p.m. until 9:12 p.m. when it enters the sign of Taurus. Wednesday, February 17 When the Moon conjoins Uranus and Saturn squares both of them, there’s a good chance you’re feeling sad, lonely and isolated. There are days when you don’t want to get out of bed, and this could be one of them. You’re not sure who you can trust, and your relationships could be suffering. It’s okay to be sad for a while, but try not to stay in that mental space and blame everyone around you for your troubles. Take responsibility for the choices you’ve made. You may be impulsive and blurting out something you could regret, so tread softly. Don’t let your thoughts go so far down the rabbit hole that you can’t see the positive people and situations in your life. Doing just one positive thing towards your goal could dig you out of a funk.
Thursday, February 18 Happy Birthday to all the Pisces out there! There’s harmonious energy in the air when the Moon conjoins Mars. A part of you may feel like singing from the hilltops, to let the world know how happy you feel. Another part of you is quiet, and understands what you need to do to get to your destination. Everything is within your grasp. You can breathe a sigh of relief and know that everything is happening as it should. The Sun enters the sign of Pisces at 4:44 a.m.
Friday, February 19 Relationships may be challenging when Venus squares Mars. Having fun in bed with your partner is one good way to make use of this energy if you’re in a healthy partnership. If you’re going through some tough times right now, you could become even more irritated with your significant other. Try not to lose it on them. Be kind and patient with your partner and yourself. Today’s energies are edgy and excitable, you could burn off some of this excess energy by getting some exercise. You could also have fun being creative, playing with words, art supplies or whatever

you have in the house…remember when you made art with macaroni? Just create/play without worrying about the result. Moon VoC at 1:28 a.m. until 10:04 a.m. when it enters the sign of Gemini.
Saturday, February 20 Your cup runs over when the Moon trines Jupiter. Good feelings bubble forth, and you want everyone to feel this great. You happily share your good fortune with others. Focusing on all the positives in your life brings in even more abundance. This is a great time to make plans for your future. Your planning and patience could bring you exactly what you’ve always wanted. Mercury Stations Direct at 6:52 p.m.
Sunday, February 21 There’s pleasant energy to the day when the Moon trines Venus. You could feel like relaxing with loved ones, or you may feel like doing some rearranging and decorating in your home. Whatever you decide to do, have fun tuning into your intuition and creativity; playing and creating with whatever brings you the most joy. Moon VoC at 12:39 p.m. until 9:53 p.m. when it enters the sign of Cancer.
Monday, February 22 The Sun and Moon are both in Water signs, emphasizing sensitivity, intuition and compassion. You may be feeling moody and focused on the negative aspects of life. Look around you and notice one good thing in your life to be thankful for. Replace feelings of lack with feelings of abundance and positivity. Take time to nurture yourself and maybe someone else.
Tuesday, February 23 Powerful emotions are swirling around in your mind. You could be examining your life and past relationships when the Moon opposes Pluto. Looking back on the past and acknowledging your part in the mix is important. Once you’ve embraced all the parts of you—the challenging and the flowing pieces—it helps pave the way towards a fresh start. If you feel the need to express yourself, do it. It’s better to say what’s on your mind rather than stuffing it down. Moon VoC at 10:54 p.m.
Wednesday, February 24 What are you excited about? Do you have a dream that a part of you is scared to wish or go for? When Mars trines Pluto, there’s a desire to create and transform. Your intuition is pointing you in the right direction. It’s up to you whether you go for it or not. If you’re nervous about what could happen, stay grounded by keeping yourself safe and secure. You don’t have to quit your day job, but if your heart is asking you to follow your dreams, listen. Start slow, in your own time and focus on your passion/project in your off hours. It could pay huge dividends. Moon enters the sign of Leo at 6:23 a.m.
Thursday, February 25 An unexpected opportunity could appear on the horizon when the Sun sextiles Uranus. It may be thrilling, but take it slow. There are times when you
want to quickly grab onto an opportunity before it disappears. I invite you to take a minute or two to savor and appreciate this moment. Breathe it in…then you can jump up and down. You may be surrounded by some unusual people who have a flair for originality. Enjoy mingling with different people, it will get your creative juices flowing. Venus enters the sign of Pisces at 7:11 a.m.
Friday, February 26 The focus is on relationships when the Moon opposes Venus. You may think one way about a situation, and your partner or someone else thinks another way. Neither way is better than the other. Try and communicate clearly, so you don’t get your wires crossed. Misunderstandings, or careless words, could have consequences. You get to choose how and when you want to be in a relationship. When the Moon’s in Virgo, you don’t want a mess, you want everything to be orderly—to know exactly what’s what. Venus in Pisces is romantic and whimsical and can float this way and that. If the Moon Venus opposition were a movie, it would be a romantic comedy where silly misunderstandings keep the lovers apart until the very end when it gets tied up in a pretty bow. It’s your movie, what part are you playing and how do you want it to end? Moon VoC at 5:32 a.m. until 11:07 a.m. when it enters the sign of Virgo.
Saturday, February 27 The Full Moon is in Virgo at 2:17 a.m. You may want to clean house when the Moon opposes the Sun. It’s time to let go of what no longer serves you. This can be easier said than done. It hurts letting go of lovers, friends, jobs or any other loss. However, if the foundations are crumbling, it may be best to release them. The Moon quincunx Saturn says, “Concentrate on building strong, supportive relationships that add value to your life.” It takes some work, and you may have to make some adjustments, but Saturn always requires you to put in some effort before you’re rewarded.
Sunday, February 28 Emotions are amplified in the morning when the Moon trines Pluto and Mars. You could feel excited and pumped, ready to start your day. Your confidence in yourself, coupled with your enthusiasm, helps you cross things off your to-do list. Another potential is you feel raw and wounded; maybe you’re not sure what is happening. You have more inner strength than you know. Remember how powerful you are and that you have people in your corner. Call on them if you need to. Moon VoC at 9:58 a.m. until 1:17 p.m. when it enters the sign of Libra. Bernadette Evans is a counseling astrologer, hypnotherapist, registered professional counselor, as well as a writer.
