model is used as our foundation to organize the wisdom and guidance in the Conscious Life Journal. The Journal follows the 5 stages of healing: Mind, Body, Spirit, Integration, and Balance. Our goal for the Journal is to provide a roadmap for individuals on their journey to a higher state of consciousness. Used together, stage by stage, while building upon each other, this 5-stage process moves you from confusion and inaction to clarity and peace. STAGE 1: YOUR CONSCIOUS MIND is the stage of healing which uses your mind and the powerful word “why” with the intention to see yourself and your life with greater clarity. In Stage 1 you may experience feelings of Confusion, Denial, and Anger. STAGE 2: YOUR CONSCIOUS BODY is the stage of healing that works through the body so that you can experience true acceptance. In Stage 2 you may experience feelings of Fatigue, Relief, and Gratitude. STAGE 3: YOUR CONSCIOUS SPIRIT is the understanding of forgiveness and how it is imperative for personal healing. In Stage 3 you may experience feelings of Connectedness, Tolerance, and Peace. STAGE 4: CONSCIOUS INTEGRATION explores a deeper level of personal responsibility and choice. In Stage 4 you may experience feelings of Clarity, Happiness, and Empowerment. STAGE 5: CONSCIOUS BALANCE examines the joy and happiness found in living fully conscious and in a state of freedom. In Stage 5 you may experience feelings of Peace, Expansion, and Freedom..

W

e invite you to join our

conscious community and get involved! There are many ways to live a conscious life. We want to know what you do—no matter how big or small—to live more mindfully, joyfully, and sustainably.

In this issue, Stage 5, it is all about Freedom!

It is in the Conscious Balance stage that we live fully into joy and happiness. We have found our balance and our freedom. In this last stage, we are able to live our lives with more peace and clarity because we know more about who we are and who we choose to be. We have investigated and accepted and forgiven and integrated, and now we are FREE. We have made the hard choices inside, and now is the time for outward action. Our goals for this stage are to consciously and confidently move toward the manifestation of our desires and dreams. From this peaceful and balanced state, we can effortlessly change those things in our lives that no longer serve our highest good. Now we can put power and action behind our choices and have the freedom to do what feels right to us—live our passion, find our soul mate, and love ourselves relentlessly! Laugh, play, be silent, be loud, be YOU!

INTERVIEW

MATT KAHN A Conversation With

Whatever Arises, LOVE That

CLJ: I love the way you go about what you do with love and an open heart. Tell me more about that.

MK: After years of doing sessions with people I realized that the way people approached healing, awakening, and transformation sets them up for infinite success or inevitable failure. The greatest tool that a teacher can give someone is teaching them how to be on the spiritual path. How lovingly we approach ourselves and our spiritual journey is the single most important factor as to whether we evolve into our highest potential or just spin in circles forever. If the way they were approaching their journey wasn’t with the utmost humility and respect, if they weren’t rooted in their hearts, they become instantaneously tainted and just recreate another spiritual ego. It’s not what we seek but how we are seeking. Because when how is totally dialed in, the things that people spend so many years trying to micromanage spiritually within themselves are done by the universe for them. We just have to do the how; the universe does the what. We learn to connect with Divinity to become aware of how Divinity treats all of its creations so that we can, in turn, start treating ourselves and all of our creations as the Divine does. That’s the ultimate reflection of consciousness. CLJ: That’s huge. Go further into that. MK: People have all these experiences of the moment they felt separate from 6

w w w.myconsciouslifejour nal.com

Source, but we are only as separate from Divinity as how we treat ourselves or others differently than the unconditional loving way that the Divine treats every living creature. The reason we have that moment of oneness or serenity is because we are remembering that we are always connected to the Divine. Once we begin to open up to that approach, the separation from Source or the rejection from love heals instantaneously. CLJ: So all those blocks to love that happened to us as children are held in place by not being able to reach that level of lovingness? MK: Absolutely. The core of abuse is neglect and we’ve all been neglected on some level, whether by ourselves or by our family. The core of our spiritual journey that unites us all is that all of us are learning how to develop the level of worthiness that allows us to see and treat ourselves as God always does. Once we focus on the worthiness, anything that needs to be healed that stems from that source of unworthiness collapses and clears on its own. Once we clear the source of it, all the periphery stuff just disappears on its own. What causes separation of Divinity is a sense of not feeling worthy of Divinity or not knowing how to be worthy of how the Divine sees itself in us. CLJ: I know I’ve had profound healings and then life happens to me again and I forget. What is that?

MK: That’s a test. It’s our own Divinity testing our consciousness to see how unwavering our faith is. When “you know what” hits the fan, are you going to open up and say this is my next vision quest where I walk as one with the light of God, or can some outcome turn you away from the light of truth? As we become fully embodied, heart-centered, enlightened masters, we are celebrating the light of our divinity in all forms, and no matter what happens, it doesn’t turn us away or distract us from the light. It only turns us toward it in a deeper way. CLJ: So how do you deal with those sticky things like people who are in relationships and don’t know how to get out. Is that a symptom of this core that we’re talking about? MK: The level of stress or drama, whether it’s coming from you or others, is indicative of some degree of unworthiness. So if you are going about life, will you allow the light of Divinity to be remembered in every moment and not let anything distract you from that? A lot of people say they would fail that every single time. And that’s why the spiritual journey exists. We realize that the level of forgetfulness of Divinity, the level of being distracted by turmoil, the unconscious ability to continually manifest disasters, adversity, and drama and conflict is just showing us a level of unworthiness. Loving ourselves is becoming the messenger of Divinity that only reaches out to its

creation to pull it out of the shadows and return it to the light that it always is. CLJ: As a consciousness magazine we’re reaching out to people who might feel that these kinds of understandings are completely foreign to them. Where do they start to understand this? MK: Victimhood is maintained by insisting on blaming the characters in your life who didn’t give you what you wanted. Redemption is turning towards the idea that “nothing in my life can change until I open up to the fact that only I can give myself the things that other people seem to withhold from me.” We will suffer for as long as we blame and we will heal as quickly as we are willing to love. We have to be patient with ourselves. We have to be foster parents to our own adopted inner children. The first step always feels too big because it’s a step out of the ego’s known reality. Even the feeling of “that’s too big for me” just shows the first one to be loved. When you let love lead the way, love can’t be confused by this. We have to see what shows up first, and that’s the one that we love as the child in our heart. CLJ: That is so comforting. Does this way of thinking help those who beat themselves up about where they are right now? MK: Of course. Regret is one of the last ditch efforts for the ego to say “my present

moment is becoming more harmonious and stable so I can only look to the past to feel bad.” No matter how far you’ve come on your spiritual journey, as long as you’re in a physical body you’re on a spiritual journey. You’ll realize that as far as you’ve come, you’ve only just begun again. So the recurring vibration of awakened consciousness is just continuous realization of new beginnings. We only experience death until we realize birth is the only reality. If you take the word birth and the word death and you smoosh them together, you have the word breath. So it’s in the recognition of our breath that we realize the exhale only seems like a death just to bring about the new beginning of the next inhale. And if the inhale is a birth and the exhale is a death, that means the breaths you take in one 24-hour-period are the experience of endless resurrection. CLJ: Everything you say has with it this underlying foundation of “it’s all okay." MK: People are okay when they’re okay and I allow people to not be okay with whatever they’re not okay with. For how many years on this journey have people known that the answer is love? You know “oh, I should love myself ” but no one knows how to do that. Or you go to a yoga class and the teacher says “find your center,” and if you knew how to do that you wouldn’t be at a class. What I offer is to look at all the things that we all know are important and beneficial and to break

" . . . if the inhale is a birth and the exhale is a death, that means the breaths you take in one 24-hourperiod are the experience of endless resurrection." them down into how do we actually do that instead of just talk about it. How do we talk as consciousness instead of talk about consciousness? How do we go from unworthy to one with Divinity? The most fascinating part of this entire journey is cracking the code. That’s what fuels me. How, for me, is the key. CLJ: We’re talking about an inner transformation but do you have howtos as to what that looks like on the outer? MK: The inner work is taking the time to learn how to give ourselves positive, nurturing attention and that’s key. You can be “working on yourself ” and because you’re not giving yourself positive, nurturing attention, you’re perpetuating neglect. So the inner work is learning to give ourselves the time and space to focus on ourselves and not get lost in the roles we’re playing to seek validation from others. We give ourselves inner positive attention that helps us to raise the vibration of our consciousness so that we can perceive and respond to other people at their highest selves, whether they’re acting that way or not. And when we’re not able to do that, that shows us how much more love we need to give July/August 2017

to ourselves. That way we have an inner journey where we can work on ourselves without neglecting ourselves, and then we also translate that into the love we cultivate in our hearts that becomes blessings of transformations for all of those we encounter. CLJ: What you just described could be the death knell for lots of relationships. MK: Sometimes people go their separate ways because one or both are not willing to step into a new paradigm. Or it could be the birth of a new relationship if both people are willing to grow and evolve. But the recipe for the healthiest relationship under the new paradigm is that two people spend time making it their business to show their partner how much love and respect they deserve to offer themselves. As you cultivate more inner love for yourself, now you have more love to bestow upon your partner as you then undertake the goal of “my job is to show my partner how much more worthy of love they are, as my partner shows me how much more love I’m worthy of in myself.” As we become loving autonomous beings we find our own inner wholeness so that we can celebrate that wholeness together—as one—instead of just relying on the actions of another person to try to make us whole. CLJ: That’s exactly it! You won’t let someone love you more than you love yourself. MK: Part of the problem is that if your partner is going through a process, it immediately feels as if they’re pulling away from you. But when we are loving ourselves unconditionally we can give our partner exactly what they need instead of making it about us. And if we can give ourselves what we need, we can love our partners from a space of freedom. And whether our partners should be loved over time and we’re together forever, or whether we were only brought together to be pulled apart, we can celebrate every moment w w w.myconsciouslifejour nal.com

of partnership, savoring the love that we receive without just waiting for the most fearful outcome to dawn. CLJ: What’s next for you? Just keep doing this wonderful work? Do you have another book in you? MK: My first book Whatever Arises, Love That was amazing. I love that people are getting so much out of it. I’m currently writing my second book, Beyond All Barriers, and ninety percent is brand new material that I’ve never taught before. It feels like the next horizon of spiritual evolution for the planet. It’s going to be published through Hay House, the fulfillment of a lifelong dream, and I can’t wait for the world to read this. When I’m done with this book, I’m starting number three immediately. We are going to “Wayne Dyer” this situation. I grew up watching him, but what I focused on wasn’t what he was saying, but how did I feel in my body when I listened to him? That’s how I learned to become who I am. Everyone has a way of sending their message to humanity, but the choice is how are you going to deliver the message and how conscious are you of people’s experiences while you deliver the message? You could deliver it harshly and directly if that’s what you’re called to do. But if you have the awareness that you can love and embrace, console and heal the deepest innocence of every being while you’re delivering what you’re destined to deliver, that for me is the highest obtainment. And that’s why it’s a cornerstone of my offering. f Matt Kahn is a spiritual teacher and highlyattuned empathic healer. His spontaneous awakening arose out of an out-of-body experience at the age of 8 and through his direct experiences with Ascended Masters and Archangels throughout his life. Using his intuitive abilities of seeing, hearing, feeling, and direct knowing, Matt feels the emotions of others and is able to pinpoint what blocks any heart from opening. As a result, he brings forth revolutionary teachings through both the written and spoken word that assist energetically-sensitive beings in healing the body, awakening the soul, and transforming reality through the power of love. He is the author of the best-selling book Whatever Arises, Love That which is being translated into seven different languages.Together, with Julie Dittmar, they offer messages and energetic transmissions to serve the awakening of humanity, and to assist you in your journey of embodying more peace, ease, and love than ever before. They invite you to join the “Love Revolution that Begins with You.”

The Law of

Polarity

WISDOM THOUGHTS by Melba Black, PhD

“Everything is dual; everything has poles; everything has its pair of opposites; like and unlike are the same; opposites are identical in nature, but different in degree; extremes meet; all truths are but half-truths; all paradoxes may be reconciled.” – The Kybalion

I

n this issue, I would like to explain the Hermetic Law of Polarity. First, let’s look at what polarity means. Polarity is a term used in electricity, magnetism, and electronic signaling. Polarity is defined as “the property or characteristic that produces unequal physical effects at different points in a body or system, as a magnet or storage battery.” Science tells us that the body is a veritable antenna using electrical and electromagnetic waves and particles traveling through neural pathways, neurotransmitters, chakras, and more. The Law of Polarity tells us that everything is dual and has poles—everything has its pair of opposites. Even though things appear as opposites, they are, in fact, two extremes of the same thing. For example, heat and cold appear to be opposite, but in truth, they are just varying degrees of temperature. The same applies to love and hate, peace and war, positive and negative, light and dark, east and west. The only difference is the degree of vibration. This law is mutable, which means that you can consciously raise your vibration and transform your thoughts and not be a victim of extremes. In humans, the extremes manifest as emotional ups and downs related to external circumstances.Thoughts and feelings have electrical and electromagnetic charges similar to magnets, with our strongest magnetic center being the heart. The heart is where we attract either positive or negative vibrations based on its interpretation of our thoughts. For example, you may place your security in a job and then suddenly be terminated due to downsizing. You haven’t changed, but your circumstances have. This sudden change in your physical world can be a catalyst for you to learn how to let go of the structures of the third dimensional plane and begin to awaken to the vast and beneficent Universe. By utilizing positive thoughts and feelings through this job loss situation, you are able to transmute the emotional extremes of losing your job. For instance, fear may be transmuted into courage. Rather than worrying about being out of work, you now have an opportunity to explore a new location or vocation. The Law of Polarity usually operates only in the physical and mental realms and not the spiritual realm. By placing your awareness on the connectedness of the Universe with your heart center, you begin to discover that the laws act in your favor as long as you work within their framework. Understand that the laws are neutral and are just laws; correct interpretation is necessary. In time, you will recognize how you influence this mutable law. The law still exists, but it no longer has dominion over you. The law can be transmuted by managing your thoughts and emotions—staying grounded and connected to your Higher Self through Spiritual practice such as meditation, getting out in nature, and many other ways to stay in balance. As you begin to understand and apply the Hermetic laws, you become aware that there is an order in the Universe in which you can engage as a co-creator and develop self-mastery. The Universe desires to cooperate with you, but has to work within the Universal law framework. “Mastery consists not in abnormal dreams, visions and fantastic imaginings or living, but in using the higher forces against the lower-escaping pains of the lower planes by vibrating higher. Remember always, student, that transmutation, not presumptuous denial, is the weapon of the master.” – The Kybalion f Melba M. Black, PhD, CLC is a writer, mentor, innovator, and scholar. She has over thirty years of experience in holistic health, spirituality, and energy healing, including Life Coaching, Reiki, Intuitive Development, Meditation, Yoga, Qigong, and more. Mastering the Ar t of Getting What You Want

Powerful Habits for Creating a Life You Love

T

here is a level of awareness available to you that you are probably unfamiliar with. It extends upwards and transcends the ordinary level of consciousness that you’re most accustomed to. At this higher plane of existence, which you can access at will, the fulfillment of wishes is not only probable—it’s guaranteed. At this level, your wishes—all of them—can indeed be fulfilled. By using your imagination and practicing the art of assuming the feeling of your wishes being fulfilled, and steadfastly refusing to allow any evidence of the outer world to distract you from your intentions, you will discover that you, by virtue of your spiritual awareness, possess the ability to become the person you were destined to be.

HABIT 1: Believe You Are an Infinite Spiritual Being Having a Temporary Human Experience The first step to learning to manifest your reality is to create a new concept of yourself as an infinite spiritual being having a temporary human experience. This “I” that you use to describe yourself isn’t the physical form that you occupy and take with you everywhere. The “I” is your higher self, changeless and real.

HABIT 2: Become the Observer of Your Thoughts If you want to manifest your dreams, you must become a master at monitoring the thoughts and feelings you are aligning yourself with. Your thoughts and feelings become your reality, so become adept at observing the thoughts and feelings you are creating for yourself.

HABIT 3: Release Your Imagination from Current Limiting Circumstances Do not let your imagination be restricted to the current conditions of your life or what I call “being obsessed with what is.” Everything that you’ve believed got you to precisely the point where you are now. If you want to elevate your life and become a manifester, then you have to change what you’ve believed to be true about yourself that has landed you where you are. 10

HABIT 4: See Your Wish as Already Accomplished In my mind I see my wishes as already being accomplished. I experience what that feels like, savoring the feeling in my body. I stay in a profound state of gratitude for my wish having been realized—as if it already were brought into being. My prayer is felt as an already accomplished fact.

HABIT 5: Believe in Your Own Divine Power If you practice studiously, you can begin to manifest for yourself virtually anything that you are capable of conceiving in your mind. You must unplug from your conditioning, and know in that private space behind your eyes, that you can and will take on the challenge of manifesting your destiny. It is my belief that you are never given the power to dream without the equivalent power to manifest that dream, and make it your physical reality.

HABIT 6: R emain Independent of the Good Opinion of Other People Never allow outside circumstances to deflect you from your desires. Keep yourself fixed on your ability to attract whatever it is that you previously thought was missing in your life. When you trust yourself to decide what is to be your destiny, you don’t allow externals to discourage or influence you.

HABIT 7: Reconstruct Your “I Ams” Examine all the supposed lacks and scarcities in your life. Then say to yourself, “I created all of this with my thoughts, conditioning, beliefs, and actions.” Run through as large an inventory as you can of the things that you would like to define your life. Then make the shift in your imagination from “I am not” or “I am hoping to become” to “I am.” You want what follows “I am” to be congruent with your highest self, which is God. Beginning with your inner dialogue, simply change the words that define your concept of yourself.

HABIT 8: Be Patient & Banish Doubt Be infinitely patient with your attempts at imagining your wish fulfilled. When you banish all doubt in favor of faith, there’s nothing more powerful on this planet. Henry David Thoreau said: “[You] will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.” Thoreau suggests that the universe will begin to conspire with you to fulfill your wishes. This is the law of co-creation. When you trust in yourself, you are not looking for solutions to your life problems in someone or something outside yourself. Instead, you remain in a state of trusting. Then, in a trustworthy manner, you can proceed to attract the energy to you that provides the solution.

HABIT 9: Align Yourself with the Feeling of the Wish Fulfilled Think about what you plan to manifest—then use your imagination to feel what that feels like in your body. Albert Einstein made this astute observation: “Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere.” Your logic—that is, the facts that you’ve accepted as true—have gotten you to point B. Now you’re going to reprogram your imagination to take you everywhere—everywhere that you are brave enough to envision for yourself.

HABIT 10: Take Stock of How Natural Your Dream Feels to You The more natural an experience your wish feels for you, the faster you will create it in your life. The key word to contemplate is “feels.” If being healthy, prosperous, happy, successful, strong, intelligent, and so on, currently feel unnatural to you, naturalness may yet be achieved by persistently using your imagination and your subjective attention to make this feeling stick.

HABIT 11: Phrase Your Intentions as Given Statements When you place an intention in your imagination, do not allow a question mark at the end of your pronouncement. See your statement ending in a grammatical exclamation point. “I bring this into my reality!” is easy to say if you’re already living from that declaration in your imagination, and have assumed the feeling in your body of that wish being fulfilled. Remain confident that through continued reliance on your imagination, your assumptions are materializing into reality.

HABIT 12: Choose Your Reality with Love When you attempt to manifest from a place of selfishness, or potential harm to anyone else, you invoke the ego. The ego is always about winning, overpowering, being better than others, and so on. So the secret is to feel yourself as already being and having what you desire, and to keep the entirety of it all wrapped up in a spirit of love. Always weigh your choices on the scales of love.

HABIT 13: Know that What You Already Have Is When you stop needing more of everything, more of what you desire seems to arrive in your life. Try this now: feel gratitude for everything you have in this moment. Know that this is enough.

Becoming More of Who You Are

O

ur creative power is the ability to convert the energy of our thoughts into a newly materialized form. Manifestation is the result. Beginning with one intention at a time, you can learn how to manifest anything in your life. Think of yourself as a consciousness being played out by God just as a wave is part of the ocean that is being played out by the ocean. This theory of nature will promote the kind of trust that you need to attract to yourself all that belongs to you in the universe. You cannot receive it or even come close to manifesting it if you have an absence of trust in yourself as an extension of God. Manifesting then becomes the business of doing nothing more than bringing into form a new aspect of yourself. You are not creating something from nothing. You are learning to align yourself with an aspect of your being that your senses have not known they could activate. When you know your highest self, you are on your way to becoming a co-creator of your entire world, learning to

manage the circumstances of your life and participating with assurance in the act of creation. You literally become a manifester. This may appear to contradict the “Ask and you shall receive” version of prayer that you were likely exposed to. It may feel new, but it is so important that you acknowledge your own Divine role in the fulfillment of your spiritualityaligned desires for yourself and others. f

LOCAL Interview with Brenda

Cobb

by Elise Vachon

"I teach people natural, holistic ways to create optimum health, including mental thinking, emotional healing, stress reduction, detoxification and cleansing, and optimum nutrition for their specific health needs."

CLJ: Are you following your dream? Cobb: I am an artist, writer, and musician. Along with helping others heal, I also enjoy being creative. With all of these things combined—being able to be creative every day and helping others—I am following my dream. CLJ: When did you realize this was your calling?

CLJ: How did you get involved in your field? Cobb: I founded the Living Foods Institute in 1999 after being diagnosed with both breast and cervical cancer. I refused to do surgery, chemo, or radiation because I had seen what that approach did to my mother and aunts on both my mother’s and father’s side of the family. I saw that it did not work and actually made their situations much worse. I was determined to find something that would help my body heal naturally. I discovered how to use organic raw and living foods, cleansing and detoxification, mental thinking, emotional healing, and stress reduction to help myself. In six months I was cancer-free and have continued to remain healthy and happy all these years. I teach people about all of the things that I did so they can apply them to their own health challenges. I have seen many thousands of people heal from all types of diseases including the most advanced cancers, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s, ALS, diabetes, addictions, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibroids, hypertension, obesity, inflammation, and many other common, as well as rare, diseases. I work to empower people to become pro-active in their well-being, so that they can create the most optimum health for themselves. CLJ: Why do you do what you do; what drives you? Cobb: I want to give back to the world and to help people stay healthy. I want to do something that I believe is truly of benefit to people. I believe that as we heal ourselves, we help bring healing, peace, harmony, and love to the planet. In the world we live in today, that is more needed than ever before. My mission is to “Help Heal the World One Person at a Time.” I love seeing a person achieve their health goals, heal from a disease that they have been told was hopeless, terminal, or incurable, and go on to live a long, healthy, and happy life. CLJ: What do you feel most proud of? Cobb: I am most proud of myself for stepping out of my comfort zone and starting a business that I knew nothing about, of surrendering to the Divine Power that inspired me to make a change in my life, and devoting my life to helping others. It isn’t easy to change career directions or to do something so unexpected, and that took a lot of courage. I am proud that I was able to do it. 12

w w w.myconsciouslifejour nal.com

Cobb: I realized this was my calling, my destiny, my mission on planet earth, and my reason for living when I was on my own healing journey in 1999. Early on in the process, I was divinely inspired to help others. CLJ: How are you making a difference in the lives of your clients? Cobb: I’m teaching my clients a better way to think, eat, enjoy life, love, and appreciate themselves for the wonderful people they are. When I help a person heal on an emotional level, the physical body heals. To have played some small part in helping save a life, extend a life, or bring quality to a life, that is a gift to me as well as to my clients. I get everything I want in life as I help others get everything they want. It is as much of a blessing to me when I help someone else as it is to my clients, maybe even more so. CLJ: What advice do you have for others when it comes to finding balance with raw and living foods and the results? Cobb: Just start where you are. This is not a race or a competition. Every day that you decide to eat a little better than you did yesterday, you achieve another step toward good health. Think about replacing one thing that you have eaten cooked, and instead eat something raw. Keep a balance in your life by indulging yourself every now and then with your favorite food, even if it isn’t the most healthy food. If you feel deprived and you constantly crave a particular food without having a little of it, you will tend to get off track and revert back to unhealthy eating habits. If you go to a birthday party and you want a little birthday cake, have a little. Just do your best to keep splurges in moderation. That truly is the key to most everything we do. Sometimes people go to the extreme and attempt to be perfect when following a particular diet. They actually end up sabotaging themselves because they are unhappy with what they are eating. It is a journey and not a destination. What works well for one person is not necessarily best for another person. Find out what your own body physiology is and what foods serve you best, and include those in your diet. If you perceive that you are going to get something good from eating more raw and living foods, then you will benefit. If you are doing it and dreading it every step of the way, you will not benefit from it as much.

Cann Dentistry welcomes chemically and environmentally sensitive patients, as well as patients who simply want their dental care to be in harmony with their healthy lifestyle.

CLJ: How do you see the world positively changing today in your area of expertise? Cobb: More and more people are coming to our Institute to become certified Living Foods Institute Educators so they can go back to their own communities and help others. This is very inspiring as there are many millions of people all over the world that can benefit from good health principles. I believe that people would do better if they knew what to do. To get the word out to a lot of different people, we need many educators dedicating their lives to helping others and teaching them what to do. I get very excited when I think that when it is time for me to leave this planet, there will be many others continuing to carry on this very important and life-changing work.

YinYang AN EXPLORATION OF OUR

What does Personal Freedom Freedom is many things to many people, but women seem to have a special relationship to it. Down in their bones, women feel they have a longer road to freedom than men. It’s not surprising. With eons of history as the lesser class—the submissive gender, the nurturer, and the caretaker—women have it coded in their cellular memory that they are defined by and confined to the back seat of culture and progress.

"Even in our progressive times, women around the world continue to seek freedom ..." by Diane Eaton Even in our progressive times, women around the world continue to seek freedom in many forms: freedom from abuse, reproductive freedom, the ability to achieve personal and professional dreams, freedom to speak their minds and hearts, and a level playing field to be powerful in the world. Clearly, women have some serious conditioning to overcome. Behaviorists report that women in business meetings and conferences tend to be far more contained and soft-spoken than men. For one, they apologize more frequently. (“Oh, sorry. Were you done speaking?”) They express being unsure of themselves. (“Oh gosh. Maybe I should have brought the other list with me.”) And they tend to be much quieter than men, contributing far less to the conversation overall.

14

w w w.myconsciouslifejour nal.com

So what’s in the way of women’s freedom? What keeps women from soaring like the eagle, wild and free, above it all? One way to get there is to recognize the two roads to freedom: freedom from and freedom to. Spiritual masters tell us that, whether you’re male or female, there’s only a limited amount of power you have to get free from something. Sure, it may be worthwhile to unburden yourself from that job that doesn’t pay you appropriately, or that partner that is emotionally abusive. It is an expression of power and freedom to not just keep taking the hurt and abuse. But there’s even more power in focusing on the freedom to do or be something. Think of it as a principle of the Law of Attraction. When you focus on getting free from something, you give energy to what you don’t want in your life. When you focus on being free to do something, you resonate with what you want to create in your life. Want to break through some personal constrictions? Resonate with one or more of these for a while. • Freedom to love yourself • Freedom to do what you want • Freedom to be authentic • Freedom to go after your dreams • Freedom to be healthy • Freedom to easily express your divine Presence And let us know how it feels! f Diane Eaton, The Writing Doctor, is a copywriter, editor, and ghostwriter for authors and entrepreneurs who love to heal, enlighten, and serve humanity. INNER FEMININE AND MASCULINE

mean to you? Why do you stay in prison, when the door is so wide open? – Rumi Most men in modern society—despite all they have and all they do—don’t have true personal freedom. They are beholden to societal, cultural, and gender norms dictating how they live much of their lives. They are conditioned to suppress their feelings, hide their vulnerabilities, mask their flaws. They usually focus on work, money, and family as their highest priorities. While this way of life occasionally helps men feel productive and somewhat satisfied, it can also debilitate them. They think and act unconsciously, going through the motions, sacrificing themselves, and compromising their values and passions for the sake of other people and “security.” This can lead to stress, fear, isolation, inauthenticity, and other negative consequences. What’s the secret to true personal freedom as a man? One way is through conscious thought, speech, and action. By expressing and embodying who you truly are, resolving troubles from your past, and actively making a positive difference in the world, you can experience emotional, mental, and spiritual fulfillment—the highest levels of personal freedom and worth. Here are ten ways you can achieve true personal freedom: • Focus on love more than fear • Follow your heart—embody your values and passions • Be of service and make a difference in whatever way you can • Tap into your emotions and heal any unresolved pain from your past • Heed your internal voice directing you to do and say meaningful things

• See the similarities rather than the differences between yourself and others • Avoid “making money” and acquiring material things as your highest objectives • Embrace your spiritual nature—appreciate your connection to something bigger • Be conscious of your thoughts, words, and actions, and the impact they have on others When you live as a conscious man, you realize your true potential (there are few limits to what you can do); you embrace your true purpose (to make the world a better place in whatever way you can); and you understand your true self and what you truly want from life (no one else can ever again tell you either of these things). Becoming more conscious starts with a simple choice: stepping through the open door of your self-imposed prison. All the goodness in the world lies on the other side. f

Health and Healing

on the Sacred Land of Elohee

“ The land is living and breathing, and old and deep, and healing and loving and full of possibilities if we just listen.” – Eve Cook

E

lohee is a secluded retreat center carved out of Landsong, which is what they call the 216 magical acres of undeveloped land located in Sautee Nacoochee, Georgia (about six miles from Helen, Georgia). In 2010, Andy and Carolyn Bralley purchased the land while their daughter, Eve Cook, was battling refractory Hodgkins lymphoma. The land became a haven where she and her family could recuperate and connect during the often-brutal treatments. Thankfully, Eve is now cancer-free. “I feel like my experience during this battle has mirrored the seasons, and it has been really something else to see our changes—mine, as well the land,” Eve said. “Winter was a time of death—killing my cancer, leaving me hollow, quiet, and still. Winter on the land was brown, quiet, and cold, yet it was also the time that we could see so far; with no leaves on the trees the vistas were expansive. We returned to the land in spring, where the buds were just beginning to pop out of the dormant limbs. I was also feeling the rustling of life returning to me. We came up every weekend since that time and have seen such lovely changes in the land. Flowers blooming, birds flying, green bursting. Each time we arrive, it is just full of even more life, and that is how I am feeling.” Eve and her husband Michael, her parents, and other family members share the vision of using this sacred land to help others connect and heal. Since they purchased the property, they have spent countless hours exploring, planning, and completing projects in the section of land that rests in the heart of Landsong and is now the Elohee center. Since their first successful retreat in 2011, they haven’t looked back. It’s amazing what a small group can accomplish when they come from a heart-centered place with good intentions. Today, Elohee is a highly-regarded sanctuary, where guests can take part in courses related to stress-reduction, self-transformation, community building, health maintenance and improvement, trauma recovery, art, music, ecology, and sustainability. Elohee’s mission is to be a home, rooted in nature, for deepening human awareness, facilitating the healing of mind and body, and transforming individuals and society.

The "Grand Hemlock" tree is a special place for ceremony.

The Land The heart of Elohee is located on Bald Mountain. Visitors enjoy endless forest vistas and panoramic views of the North Georgia mountains. There are seven new cottages that can accommodate groups up to fifty-six people. There are also a few camping spaces for those really wanting to connect with Mother Nature. Two+ miles of well-marked trails wind around the center. Trail maps easily guide you to the “Thanksgiving House,” a charming old stone cottage (original to the land when they bought it) available for smaller groups. As you walk down the “Hobbit Steps” to the cottage, you can take in the beauty of the 100-foot waterfall. According to Eve, there is also an old gold mine on the property, but it is not open to guests. There are plans to build a labyrinth, a food forest, a learning pavilion, and a woodland meditation hut. Another special place on the property is the “Grand Hemlock” tree, estimated to be over 400 years old. The location of this blessed tree has become a special place for ceremony and opportunity to connect to the land. Due to a rapidly spreading infestation of the hemlock

woolly adelgid, north Georgia’s hemlocks are in danger of extinction. A tree doctor was brought in to help save this tree and about 200 others. According to Eve, her health and that of the Grand Hemlock’s have been parallel and are gaining strength together. She invites guests to visit the tree and experience the energy of love. The main building, Mandala Hall, is a seventeen-sided structure with a large room for groups upstairs, and a dining room and kitchen downstairs. Visitors can sit on the wraparound porch and relish 360° mountain vistas or enjoy the vanishing edge reflecting pond, a man-made, self-contained, self-cleaning ecosystem that is chemicalfree, harnessing aquatic plants as natural filters and rocks seeded with friendly bacteria to produce clean, clear water. There is also an outdoor hot tub, a waterfall that aerates water into the pond, a swing, and a fire ring. I was drawn to the Adirondack chairs positioned at the mountain’s peak for meditation. It is also possible to schedule a massage in the newly completed spa or pick up a homemade loaf of Aunt Pat’s sprouted bread at the sundry shop.

The Retreat Immersion “We are new to this land, but the land is old. I’ve always loved the Appalachian Mountains because of the ancient wisdom they breathe, and this land is no exception. From the moment we stepped foot on its earth we felt its wisdom, its healing, its magic. There is a lot to learn from this land and my senses are open and listening.” – Eve Cook

I arrived at Elohee around check-in time, 3:00 p.m. The directions were concise, pointing out a common GPS glitch to avoid. I was to call or text thirty minutes before my arrival to ensure that I would be met, since parking is about a half-mile from the main campus. At the gated entrance, I was greeted by a friendly lady, Sandy, who checked off my name from her list and showed me where to park. My luggage and I were swiftly transported up the fairly steep grade, directly to my cottage. On the way, I had paperwork to look over and was shown the various buildings and features. After unpacking my belongings, I had a few hours to relax. With camera in hand, I explored the facilities, taking in the clean mountain air and the breathtaking views. I relished a cup of tea at the crest of the mountain. Then it was time for dinner. I really cannot say enough about the food. It was fresh, delicious, healthy, and there were gluten-free, vegan, and vegetarian options. The gourmet buffet-style meals are organic and locally sourced as much as possible. According to their new chef, Ari Warsaw, “Much of our cooking here at Elohee is inspired by our immediate surroundings—sights, smells, and sounds—reflected in our seasonally-driven, locally-sourced menus. Rooted in our sensory cooking is the value that sharing food is an essential component of a retreat or workshop. We seek to create cuisine that nourishes our guests along their journey. The individual’s needs are equal to the total sum of the collective experience. We utilize the opportunity to provide fresh, creative, and healthy meals as a conduit to express our gratitude and appreciation for our guests from hearth-to-heart.” I signed up for “The Painting Experience,” a five-day intuitive process painting class led by Stewart Cubley that sounded right down my alley. The course is for anyone wanting to experience that intelligent part of their

intuition providing access to a deeper knowing through creative expression. This is for any level of painter—in fact, if you are a beginner, you don’t have to “unlearn” many things about creative painting. I was so blessed to be able to attend and have been integrating things I learned. Not only do I feel I realigned with my creative source and can better trust my spontaneous thoughts and feelings, I also feel like I reconnected to nature through this sacred land. It was interesting to hear the other participants tell stories of what they learned. There were a lot of epiphanies, as well as tears. Although I didn’t have any raw emotional moments, I spent a good bit of time revisiting my childhood and getting in touch with my inner child. I feel that by connecting, I was able to enter a creative mode that is less restrictive and full of freedom. It’s so refreshing to feel welcome to enjoy nature’s most healing gifts through this place and to know the loving people whose mission is to share it. The Bralley’s and Cooks are so accommodating to every guest. You can feel their love for the land and the love that the land gives back. It’s truly magical and is what makes this place so special. They brought their dream into reality with love and healing intention. Thank you! I will be back, Elohee! For more information about Elohee and to book your special retreat vist www. In Sanskrit "mandala" means both circle and center, suggesting that it represents both the visible and invisible—the macrocosm around us and microcosm deep inside our hearts and minds. Thus, it seems fitting to refer to the seventeen-sided building serving as Elohee's primary meeting space as Mandala Hall.

BALANCE

s e r i e s

The Power of Three Our spiritual bodies M encompass three

by Christina McCarthy

20

y sister recently got a new puppy and cute little Tash has two speeds—running around like a tornado to see what mischief she can get into or crashed out asleep. Watching her reminded me that as children, we were once like that too—all or nothing—and while the egoic child’s mind still operates in those extremes, the adult learns to find balance between those seeming opposites to live a healthier, happier life. Our spiritual bodies encompass three aspects: the mental, emotional, and physical realms. These three are designed to work in conjunction to achieve harmony in the day-to-day and remain flexible in times of struggle. We achieve balance within each aspect and in integration with one another by becoming more aware of when we go back to the child’s way of “all or nothing.” Because we spent our entire lives bouncing from one extreme to the other, changing that behavior is a process that takes time and patience. Movement is key in all areas, so we must be aware of any aspect we do not invest energy in, as well as any areas where we overinvest, and adjust accordingly. The child lives in extremes—sometimes in avoidance and sometimes in obsession—but neither is a place of creation. In avoidance, there is no movement and all energy is fixated on the goal of not moving (mentally, emotionally, or physically), therefore no energy is going toward the creation of anything. With obsessive thoughts, feelings, or emphasis on the physical, the energy is spinning over and over the same point without a direction. Our job is to direct the energy to create the lives that we want. Whether we are talking about stagnation or overstimulation in the emotional, mental, or physical realms, the balance of creative energy lies in between the two poles. You may find yourself very compulsive about working out and caring for your body, but completely shut down to feeling your emotions. Or you may overthink every situation, but forget to give your physical body any attention. Anytime we overinvest in an area and neglect another, we are out of our natural balance.

aspects: the mental, emotional, and physical realms.

Just like the triangle is the strongest geometric shape because of the ability to distribute force evenly to all three sides, our systems are perfectly designed to support and work in harmony. There is strength in the unity—the whole is stronger than the individual parts. We are all naturally more gifted in certain aspects, but to value one over the other only does us a disservice. True wisdom is found in utilizing all of who we are and allowing God to speak to us through our mental, emotional, and physical bodies. When we ignore any part of that system, we hinder the natural communication. Take a self-inventory and see where you are strongest and where you avoid, then work on integrating them all in a balanced, unified way. Living while disregarding any aspect is like trying to ride a tricycle with one flat tire—you are just dragging when you could be flying! f Christina McCarthy has a degree in psychology and is a Certified Master Facilitator in the Burgess Process. TRUE FREEDOM:

Balance & Freedom from a

Buddhist Pe r s p e c t i ve by Gareth J.Young

“ True Freedom is freedom from your own mind.” - Anonymous

W

hen I read this line many years ago, it resonated and has stayed with me ever since. It reflects a deep truth of Buddhism: when we have ideas and goals and ambitions, likes and dislikes, when we allow ourselves to want certain things and not others, we are ceding control of our lives to our minds. But if, instead, we look closely at what our minds are doing and smile at our desires and compulsions, as we would smile at a small child, then we move away from this compulsion towards a different, freer life. Much is said of seeking a balanced life, but my understanding of Buddhism sees this as a limited perspective. Balance is holding two things in proportion, and when it comes to our lives, this is unstable and, frankly, unsatisfying. For me, the Buddhist perspective would point us to integration rather than balance. In meditation, we let go of thoughts and experience a fuller and deeper life—the life in which on the one hand we are human beings in our particular time and place and with our particular responsibilities, and on the other hand where we are not just connected with, but actually are the whole universe. This simultaneously brings infinite power and infinite humility, infinite authority and infinite responsibility. It is a lot to swallow. These two sides cannot be held in balance, for the slightest slip would throw everything off; they can, however, be experienced directly as different aspects of the same whole, and integrated. In “Sweet Marie,” Bob Dylan sang, “ . . . to live outside the law you must be honest.” Freedom is like this. It is not about being able to do what you want or about seeking after (and maybe achieving)

personal goals and ambitions. Rather, it comes from a deep sense of integrity and honesty. In a spiritual, Buddhist sense, it comes from knowing who you are, from being who you really are. Golfers know this freedom when they are in the groove: they experience a “Zen” moment where they feel emptiness and the ball flies just where it should. Musicians do so too when they lose themselves in their music. The kind of honesty I think Bob Dylan is pointing at is the deep honesty born of self-knowledge, born of self-awareness. It is the kind of honesty born of losing the self and acting not out of ego, but out of a greater sense of being. From this place, living our lives is effortless. We do just what we are supposed to do.

Everything—the good, the bad, and the ugly—is intuitive and happens naturally. It happens with and in calm and peace, and the whole of life is imbued with a sense of peace and confidence. When you can see that you are not your mind, but rather that your mind is just something that happens to you, then everything changes. YOGA

oga (Sanskrit for “Union”) is an incredible tool in the journey toward balancing your life. Yoga is the Union between Mind, Body, and Spirit. Bringing all parts of yourself into union brings harmony and balance to your life. Yogic Paths have a history of over 5000 years. Hatha Yoga is most widely practiced in the West. This form of yoga focuses on preparing the body for meditation through poses and breath work that clear tension, stagnancy, and dis-ease from the body’s energy channels. The point is to allow life force to flow well through the body that can lead to deeper meditation and self-exploration towards one’s own enlightenment. You can tune into your Spirit using the most basic building block of yoga, the breath. The breath is the most basic necessity for Life, but the most powerful tool for transformation and growth. Learning to breathe with awareness can change your perspective almost instantly. The basic breath in yoga is the Ujayi Breath or Ocean Breath. It is a deep, slow, diaphragmatic breath with closed lips that uses a slight “H” sound in the back of the throat to sound like an ocean wave in your head. (It also sounds like Darth Vader!) This breath calms and warms the body. Deep breathing can create the space to reevaluate a difficult situation, to come from a more centered place before responding. It can also clear chaos when your head is spinning from overwhelm with your current circumstance and even bring about new inspirations and great ideas. Another benefit of yoga is helping to manage and gather the mind. You may often feel like your mind is in control of you. If your mind races with to-do lists or loops into habitual thoughts of worry or criticism, your Yoga practice helps you quiet it down. To harness the mind, focus on the breath. Observe and feel the breath pour in and out slowly. You can do this in each pose of

w w w.myconsciouslifejour nal.com

your yoga class. Let the rhythm of the breath hypnotize you to get into the present moment and shift out of looping and/or chaotic thoughts. Using your breath, your focus, and the movement in your body, you can make some space between your thoughts. After calming your mental faculties, you can start to hear the whispers of your True Self, your Spirit, inspiring you with the truth of who you are, offering clarity and ideas to deal with your current situation. Your yoga pr actice also incorporates the embracing of your physical body. You get into your body using your breath and calming your mind to allow presence in the moment. You develop body awareness, like in Chair Pose, where you are standing with your feet together and knees bent deeply like you are sitting in an invisible chair with arms either extended in front of you or over your head. You become aware of what your legs are doing. You learn to use your core appropriately. You learn the balancing act of work and ease in your muscles. You feel your strength, not just physically, but mentally and spiritually. You lengthen your spine with presence to create space within your body that helps you calm and create space in your mind. Your yoga practice gathers all parts of you— Mind, Body, and Spirit. It’s a tool to utilize all of your facets of being alive more harmoniously. You’ve given yourself an opportunity to feel that all parts of you are working together for your greatest good. You are living more fully in balance and can also catch yourself more quickly when you start to teeter from your center. f

Your yoga practice gathers all parts of you. . . Mind, Body, and Spirit.

Sacred

Union

Balancing the Masculine and Feminine Aspects of the Divine By Lisa Michaels

hen we think of Spirit as having elements of both masculine and feminine, mythology gives us the image of Divine Consorts, with God and Goddess in Sacred Union. When we engage with the Divine feminine and masculine in our spiritual devotions, the practice can evolve an expression of divine balance, joy, and freedom in our relationships with self and others. We want to evolve a balanced view of these energies within ourselves and use these understandings to bring our creations into form. In doing so, we must consider the feminine and masculine aspects of the Divine.

Defining the Divine Feminine and Masculine Gendered perceptions of the Divine can be limiting, as both women and men carry the receptive and active, yin and yang principles within themselves. The classic metaphor of the sun and moon working in union with one another demonstrates the ebb and flow of these principles. The active principle of the sun provides light for day and outer activity. The receptive principle of the moon allows the darkening of nighttime to turn inward and rest. Each individual holds these energetic signatures of sun and moon. Each of us also carries the energetic signatures of Divine feminine energy and Divine masculine energy. Through the feminine, it is possible to honor the Divine aspect of

nurturing and birthing new life. The Divine masculine is honored as the one who nurtures, grows, and then plants the seed itself. Essentially, the Divine feminine and masculine expressions give women and men a way to more deeply know themselves in connection to the wholeness of all life, sometimes called “unity consciousness.” To embrace the masculine and feminine active and receptive principles within ourselves is to honor the divine within.

The Divine Masculine and Feminine in Balance As we develop active and receptive principles within ourselves, we can allow them to function in co-creative harmony. The deep work of Genia Pauli Haddon tells us that yin and yang, feminine and masculine energies, combine in four different ways to bring new creation fully to the outer world; there are masculine yin and feminine yin, masculine yang and feminine yang. Their roles and functions include: • The masculine yin energy – contains and nurtures the seeds of a new creation • The masculine yang energy – brings the ability to expand, penetrate, and plant the new creation seed • The feminine yin energy – represents the place where the seed is nurtured to its fully developed state • The feminine yang energy – embodies the birthing energy that brings forth new creation into the outer world

This consciousness (this co-creation with Source) serves our inner world as well as our outer relationships. The ability to work in harmony with the aspects of ourselves helps us find inner balance, as well as offer a balanced perspective to our partnerships in the world. f Best-selling author and creation coach Lisa Michaels teaches conscious alignment with nature to help visionaries dynamically increase their intuition and creation abilities. BALANCE

s e r i e s

Balancing the Body  with Body Awareness by Leslie Clayton

T

he art and science of living with a balanced body in life is simple but not easy. Your brain and body want to live in a state of homeostasis, so in that way it’s simple. Give your body what it needs— nourishment, rest, activity, a positive internal voice, and a supportive environment, and it will respond in a positive way. Yet, it’s not easy because of a toxic external environment and collective consciousness, insanely busy lives, more tendency toward isolation, and an unconscious and often unhealthy internal dialogue. All these things cause our nervous systems to function from the fight, flight, or freeze response. Most people live in bodies bound up by tension they’re not even aware of, and they don’t know how to shift. Many of us have become numb from the internal and external stress. The brain and body can work together to give you exactly what you need right now to find that balance. The latest neuroscience is exploding with proof that our bodies are responding directly to the individual and collective mental and emotional stress in which we are steeped. Fortunately, as researchers learn more about how the brain works, they see the importance of cultivating healthy internal and external environments for people to thrive. When you suffer from pain in the body, unhealthy relationships, or live in an area that does not support your highest potential, it’s much harder to relax your mind and enjoy simple pleasures in life. Your lower brain, or survival brain, will work overtime to keep you safe. Unfortunately for all of us, sameness = safety. So most people will continue to eat the same way, avoid adding new exercises or new nutrition, stay in unhealthy relationships, and

24

w w w.myconsciouslifejour nal.com

continue to live in places that are less than ideal for growth. If you have back pain, or any kind of pain, your energy and attention are being hijacked by that pain. This makes it hard to start or maintain good fitness regimens. The lack of core strength and flexibility weakens your spine and affects your posture, which then affects your emotions and the health of your vital organs. It takes desire and insight to focus on what’s not working in your life and lots of willpower to choose new habits that will activate the part of the brain where bliss, joy, peace, and purpose abound. It’s important to reeducate the brain and body to build new pathways for better breathing and movement patterns that promote better physical, mental, and emotional health. Find a coach or mentor who knows how to give you the tools for structure and discipline, and the techniques that will help you create new physiology in your body and brain for sustainable change and higher consciousness. One area that people may not realize is important when looking at the physical health of the body is how they are being in relationship to others. When you are stressed or feeling shut down in some way, or need to protect yourself from perceived threats, your defensive response limits your ability to feel the intentions of others. This blocks the flow of energy, or qi, in the body. It takes courage to expand your emotionalenergetic range, and to create authentic connection with others. The art of practicing presence with yourself and others leads to learning how to listen to this internal body awareness, and it develops the capacity to access deeper levels of joy, intimacy, and connection in all areas of your life.

To create more health, balance, and experiences of joy and freedom in your life, start by meeting your body with respect.

To create more health, balance, and experiences of joy and freedom in your life, start by meeting your body with respect. Learn to listen to the internal dialogue that rarely stops. Tune in to the subtle sensations that are moving through your body. Take a tactile shower (no washcloth or sponge). What does it feel like for your body to breathe? Feel the sensations of relaxation and openness when you let your shoulders drop. Cultivate awareness of your internal environment—your breath, your emotions, how tension is created and released, and how your thoughts affect you. Those thoughts carry energy. Make sure they are kind. Address every aspect— body, mind, relationships, and environment—to bring yourself to balance, to stasis. Free your breath, relax your body and your mind to achieve inner peace and outer aliveness. This integrative approach will help you to create your optimal life. f Leslie Clayton founded the Body Awareness Pilates studio in 1993. Pilates, Higher Brain Living facilitator, Heart IQ coach. ife is filled with an incredible variety of emotions and experiences. These are the very things that help form our beliefs and perceptions. It is through our individual beliefs and perceptions that we are able to observe any situation on our own unique terms. Consider the burning building scenario. Same building burning but place a different individual at each corner of the building, and you will get four different recounts of exactly how the building burned. And all four accounts will be totally accurate, based on each individual’s beliefs and perceptions. This story illustrates that you always have choices about how to experience life. You can change any beliefs or perceptions that no longer serve you. Feng Shui is the study of how we create our outer environment utilizing the energy patterns we hold inside. Another way to understand this concept is by understanding how aura photos are created. External metal finger plates capture the energy patterns your body is emitting, and these patterns are then expressed as different colors surrounding your body. The ancient science of Feng Shui studies how an individual creates the same energy patterns in their environment. It can be difficult to determine our own beliefs and perceptions. But by applying the principles of Feng Shui, you are afforded tools that can help you identify these areas. For example, if you are having difficulty having a healthy love relationship, look at the far, back, right corner of the various rooms in your home. How are these areas decorated? How do they make you feel? Are you happy to sit comfortably here? Remember, nothing in these areas is causing your faulty beliefs or perceptions, the areas merely reflect them. If your Love Relationship area of the Bagua matches your current relationship issues, then evaluate what you have in this area and consider what you might do to make changes. For example, if you have a lot of items that represent your career, then honestly reflect on how much you are allowing your career to be your substitute passion, or consider how much your career may be affecting your love relationship. Apply this same level of reasoning to all nine areas of the Bagua. It is common for several areas of the Bagua to interrelate. The example above demonstrates how the career area of the Bagua interrelates with the Love Relationship area. It is very important to understand you are healing yourself.Your furniture, color selections, and knick-knacks The Bagua is a tool used in Feng are not CAUSING your issues. There are no magic Shui to analyze the energy of a trinkets. The doshas derive from the five elements and their related properties. These elements are found in all living things—ether, air, fire, water, and earth—and are the building blocks of life. Doshas are dynamic in that they are constantly changing. They are biological energies found throughout the human body and mind, governing all physical and mental processes and providing every living being with an individual blueprint for health and well-being. There are three doshas according to Ayurveda: • Vata is composed of space (ether) and air • Pitta is composed of fire and water • Kapha is composed of earth and water Use the Dosha chart (opposite page) to help you determine which dosha or combination of doshas best describes your predominant constitution. ANIMALS AS GUIDES

by Tammy Billups

Decisions on

Your Animals’Behalf

T

he big decisions are inevitable and rarely easy. We let these incredible furry and winged love-filled beings of light crawl inside our hear ts and hole up there. So, of course it’s difficult to find clarity because our hear ts are utterly and completely invested in a positive outcome. Seeing your beloved animal in pain or potentially suffering can really get you ungrounded. The tendency is to pack your bags and go to a place I call Crazy-Fix-It-Island (a place I’ve been to frequently, I might add). You take your pet to vets and specialists, and seek the opinions of friends and family. You watch her like a hawk and your thoughts are filled with “figuring out” what you can do to make things easier for her, all the while agonizing over the emotional or physical pain you imagine she’s feeling. In the middle of making a big decision lies an opportunity for you to tap into your inner wisdom, the land of golden clarity, which holds the key to knowing the highest and best decision for your pet.

Truth: No one is more connected to your animal’s wishes than you are. No one. When you are able to trust your intuition and connection with your animal for guidance on her behalf, your “worst case scenario” fears dissipate.

Here are three steps to get you more grounded and out of the land of ambiguity.

1. Ask for help from the Divine Call it Universe, Angels, or the source of your good, but just be sure to make the call! Asking for help sets up the “ask and it is given” Universal truth, and helps you to know that you aren’t in this alone. It frees up space for the divine to navigate more easily through the heart of the matter. When you are asking or praying for help, be sure to ask for the highest and best outcome for your animal.

2. Surrender the outcome Release what you think must happen so what needs to happen can reveal itself. Make a conscious intention to pull back your energy and gently pivot from over-worrying about your animal and a particular outcome, and it will be an easier experience for you both. Then you’ll be able to get grounded, connected, and tap into the courage needed to take action.

3. Signs, signs everywhere! Be awake and aware of your surroundings for synchronicities and coincidences that could be your animal or the universe gifting you help with your decision. Animals can and will give you obvious signs so you’ll know their desires . . . so, heads up! You will know when the decision is right. You’ll feel it in your heart to be truth for you and your beloved animal. Trust yourself and keep your decision-making power. Wait until you feel the sense of certainty, or knowing. Love yourself through the experience. Your animal believes in your ability to tap into their wishes. Give yourself permission to believe it too. h Tammy Billups is a pioneer and specialist on the animal-human emotional relationship. She is a Certified Interface (Bioenergetics) Therapist for people and animals. She’s facilitated thousands of sessions nationwide on both two- and four-legged clients. ike many people I know, I believed that being alone meant I failed in the love department. Forever branded a loser, unworthy of finding happiness and companionship, I was destined to spend the rest of my existence a lonely old lady. As a young girl, reinforced by the many Disney Princess movies I watched, I believed I would marry Prince Charming, and then one day, in a faraway land, live happily ever after. If a partner was the necessary ingredient for happiness, that put a whole lot of pressure on finding, and then holding on to, a relationship, regardless of how dysfunctional it might be. This flawed premise ruled my life until a few years ago, when at fifty-two years of age I found myself divorced . . . again. If life with Prince Charming was not all that happy, then what was wrong with Cinderella’s formula? The secret, I discovered, is that unless I love me—truly love me—there is no way to find happiness through another, let alone sustain it ever after. Relationships are a wonderful and necessary part of life; however, the work of awakening is to place complete responsibility for our happiness where it belongs—within. Being single at this stage of my life, with my three adult children enjoying their own independent lives, offers me an opportunity to cultivate an important relationship—with my Self. Through nurturing my Self, I’ve discovered that within me is the very presence of love I sought from others. With plenty of time to now date me, I am rediscovering passions that were put aside while I was in the pursuit of happiness on the outside. Interestingly, I now enjoy time with others, not to get happiness, but to share the happiness that overflows from my nurtured and love-filled heart. One of the passions I am actively nurturing is gardening. I am blessed to have several friends that have no interest

in gardening but have wonderful yards I get to play in. Gardening is one of the ways I feel deep happiness, as my hands till the soil and tend to the plants. Gardening grounds me with Mother Earth, and as I receive her embrace, the happiness I experience is truly multiplied as I share it with my friends. I have also discovered that I love the uninterrupted time I spend meditating and communing with Creator. I cherish that often the only sounds I may hear all day while at home come from my own breathing or my puppies’ snoring. I am grateful for this gift of solitude, which I now experience as an expression of self-love. The dancer in me, whom I shelved because my husbands were not dancers, came forward as I began to take dance lessons. Oh, what fun it is to move my body to the rhythms of joyful music. I relish that my Creator placed this gift within me. I feel so happy sharing my talent with other dancers with the same passion. Happiness does multiply when it is shared. I may not be married, but I am definitely not alone. Being single has allowed me more time to cultivate deeper and more meaningful relationships with my Self, my Creator, my family, and my friends. I’m cultivating a peaceful balance that nourishes my inner world as I’m embraced by the one surrounding me. Love is simple; for it to flow it only asks that I be happy, ever now! f Inspired by her own awakening, Laina Orlando simplifies spirituality so it’s easy to understand, and practical to apply in everyday life. HOW HEART-BASED TECHNOLOGY is Leading People to Inner Balance and Happiness

M

By Deborah Rozman, PhD

ost people know that joy, happiness, and fulfillment come from within. They may not realize how the heart is engaged in this process. At HeartMath® Institute we discovered that a measurement called Heart Rate Variability (HRV) is reflective of people’s emotional states and that HRV, or heart rhythm analysis, offers a unique window into the communication between the heart, brain, and emotions. Researching HRV helped us develop techniques to synchronize heart/brain communication and self-generate a highly beneficial state called physiological coherence. This physiological state is also referred to as heart coherence. Because the heart is a key instigator of this state, it is associated with our capacity for self-regulation and emotional balance, access to intuition, and improved mental functioning (focus, memory, creativity, etc.). Practicing heart-based qualities and values, such as appreciation or gratitude, develops resonance and coherence between the heart, mind, brain, and emotions. When these powerful energies are not resonating as a team, or have opposing desires and agendas, this generates most of our stress accumulation. These divisions within us create incoherence, which represses the spirit and heart energy that supply our joy, happiness, and sense of well-being. When our heart energy is low, we feel less care, kindness, and connection with others, and are scattered within ourselves. HeartMath researchers found that feelings of love, care, compassion, appreciation, joy, and other uplifting emotional qualities long-associated with the “heart” generate a coherent heart rhythm pattern (heart coherence), as shown in the graph. 30

w w w.myconsciouslifejour nal.com

This discovery, published in the American Journal of Cardiology, led to the development of HeartMath HRV coherence technologies (emWave® and Inner Balance™ Trainer), which are being used by people in over 100 countries as a way of training themselves to increase coherence. The heart’s intuition is the natural language of our true authentic self. Many have reported that HRV coherence feedback helps them quickly access a meditative state and signals them when they lose focus or presence, prompting them to shift back into heart coherence, which enhances intuitive clarity. HeartMath founder Doc Childre explains more in the book Heart Intelligence: Connecting with the Intuitive Guidance of the Heart. “Our attempts at happiness are vulnerable to constant disruption. We can change this pattern as we understand the value of coherence and use it to realign our mind and emotions with our heart a few times throughout the day. Practicing heart coherence is important at any time for boosting our intuitive connection, resilience, and emotional balance, especially during times of personal or global stress. Our soul (higher self) nudges and supports us in becoming more coherent, as this is the optimum frequency and vibration for creating harmony and fulfillment. Coherence is also the baseline for wholeness healing practices. Opening our heart more in our interactions with others is a higher vibrational practice and a fundamental step towards personal happiness and fulfillment. As we practice raising the coherent vibration of our love rather than chasing happiness through people, stimulation, and stuff (even if good stuff), we discover that increased happiness is

LOVE • CARE • COMPASSION •APPRECIATION • JOY

a natural occurrence that just shows up when we are qualifying life through our heart. It’s counter-productive to apply for continuous happiness without clearing out lower vibrational attitudes that can’t share the same space. When we achieve a vibration of happiness that doesn’t have to be baited or conditional, then everything else is an add-on, not a depend-on (which is the mother of disappointments). View happiness as a high-end spiritual perk that we learn to unleash from within, and not make life an endless pilgrimage trying to find it.

CONSCIOUS PERSPECTIVES

Let’s hold compassion in our hearts for the millions of people who don’t have the luxury to be concerned about happiness, as they are deeply pressed in the survival mode from wars, natural disasters, starvation, abuse, etc. We can’t change this picture overnight, but our love and compassion can help in ways that we can’t see. No genuine love is ever wasted even if we can’t always monitor and track its fine workings. Better times for the whole are unfolding—and we are the transformational engineers.” Heart-based technologies that develop our heart qualities and intuition empower us to engineer our transformation into more fully conscious, joyful, loving human beings. New technology that can enable millions to live more from the heart will accelerate the evolution of humankind from separation to cooperation, and awaken us to who we truly are. f Deborah Rozman is a psychologist, business executive, educator, and author. Having penned numerous books and co-authored with Doc Childre the Transforming book series, published by New Harbinger, most recently she co-authored Heart Intelligence: Connecting with the Intuitive Guidance of the Heart. THE WAY OF THE

DRUID by Melba M. Black, PhD

"It is often said—usually by those who have not studied the subject—that the world-view and philosophy of the old Druids is lost beyond recall . . . [but] it is by no means impossible to regain in the present age the spirit of original Druid philosophy. It is essential indeed to do so; for a revival of the old Druidic way of thought, acknowledging the sanctity of the living earth and all its creatures, seems the only alternative to planetary dissolution." – John Michell, Stonehenge

W

hat is a Druid? Most people either have never heard it before, or have some vague recollection of an ancient, mystical Celtic society. It is indeed an age-old fellowship. References to the Druids date back to 200 BCE, where they had an established reputation as philosophers, healers, and seers. Accurate information about the Druids is sparse due to the fact that it was forbidden for them to record their practices, philosophies, and way of life in written form. Hence, all their teachings and wisdom were passed down generationally through oral tradition. It is also believed that the esoteric and mystical gifts were passed down through bloodlines. 32

Druidry is a living tenet that is constantly evolving, but at the same time is timeless and venerable. It is a way of living in the world, while being guided by intuition, wisdom, and a sense of knowledge and energy from within. Druids revere nature, the Universe, and the body as divine. There is no dogma, fixed set of beliefs, or practices. Being a Druid is a spiritual path consisting of virtues. Only by cultivating their innate divine power can Druids demonstrate truth, honor, integrity, strength, courage, and justice. According to my Druid grandmother, whom we called Mamo Moore, I am at least fifth-generation Druid (and this perhaps goes back into the eons of time). She taught me to be a practicing Druid in ways that were fun and explorative. When we were out gathering herbs, she pointed out the balance of nature, and how all of the complexities therein worked in unity, from the rocks and dirt to all the unique creatures who live within this veritable paradise.

This wise woman taught me that the cosmos collaborates with nature, and that we are to follow the Farmers’ Almanac for planting and harvesting according to moon phases and astrological patterns. Grandmother showed me how to become a student of the stars and all things natural, so as to learn how to live on this great planet, Gaia. Mamo Moore explained that the more you become intimate and connected with the planet, the more you are alive and are able to invoke assistance. Just as in human friendships, it is much easier to ask someone for help if you have a close relationship with them. So it is with the Universe and Gaia. Growing in this awesome relationship with the Universe and Gaia, there begins a noticeable balancing of divine feminine and masculine energy. The virtues and gifts integrate within our being, and the external and internal world expands in consciousness as oneness and connectivity. Awareness, integrity, love, respect, responsibility, and wisdom are the tenets of this path. We need these philosophies, spiritualties, and ideas that can help us get back in touch with Nature. Druidry is a way of life. The Old Ways, reinterpreted for our times, offer us the kind of gifts we need to heal ourselves and the planet. The challenge for the reader is to develop a close relationship with the Universe and Gaia. Both are ready, excited, and waiting to walk with each of us! f Melba Black is a mentor, innovator, and scholar. CONSCIOUS “ The term work-life balance was a mistake from the start. Because we don’t really want balance. We want satisfaction.”– Matthew Kelly, Author of Off Balance PERSPECTIVES

Is There Really a Work/Life Balance? by Sharron Ragan

2.

W

hat is work/life balance? The phrase work/life balance was first used in the United States in 1986 by anthropologists who used a definition of happiness as having as little separation as possible between your work and your play, and feeling satisfied. Despite the worldwide quest for work/life balance, very few have found an acceptable definition of the concept, and today most people find it impossible to figure out how to do it. Experts suggest that this blurred boundary of work and life is due to the emergence of the information age. Most entrepreneurs and corporations use email, social media, and smartphones to enable and encourage employees to stay connected to the business even when they are not in the office. Whether you’re a manager or an entrepreneur, continuous connection causes job penetration beyond the boundaries of the traditional workday and workplace 24/7. The more blurred the boundary, the more work/life conflict occurs, which is actually a replacement for the old authoritarian control in business. Before email and smart phones, you would be in an office with your manager looking over your shoulder. So how do you set boundaries not only at work, but with yourself, and prioritize between work and lifestyle to achieve a kind of satisfaction balance that works for you?

1.

First, there is no such thing as an equal balance between work and life. The definition of balance lies within the heart of each human being’s feeling of satisfaction. Life must be fluid. What works today, and where you spend your time, may not work tomorrow; and it will vary over time as your needs change. Your constant strive for balance becomes a moving target.

Balance starts with you and the real purpose you are doing what you do in life, and in your business or career. There is no perfect one-size-fits-all model. Everyone has different priorities depending on the kind of career and work ethics they embody. Make a pie chart of where you spend your time and what you are achieving. Then make one of where you want to spend your time and what you desire to achieve. Explore your options then ask the question over and over, “What’s holding me back from the life I want?” Allow yourself time to think this through and listen to your inner wisdom—it will come forth if you’re ready to listen and willing to take action.

3. The framework of work/life balance

is to be clear on who you are, your values, and what makes sense in your scope of a balanced life. Once you’ve embraced your clarity, it’s possible to feel deep and permanent satisfaction in your soul. Many people are unhappy in their work/life balance mostly because they don’t set boundaries and don’t know what they truly want in life.

We live in a world of rapid and continuous change that sometimes forces us to choose a life or a career we really don’t want, and for all the wrong reasons. It’s impossible to balance choices that aren’t for your highest good. I think the work/life balance phrase must become “work/life satisfaction choices”; this rises out of having things and experiences you deem most important. Your inner wisdom prompts you to see the things and experiences that will build a better you, and this will allow you to understand the true value of achieving your divine satisfaction in work and life. f Sharron Ragan is a brand creativity consultant and intuitive change agent. Real Talk | Learning to Just “Be”

Self-Care for All Stages of the Journey

By Martha Burgess Novak

W

e have smart phones, smart TVs, smart cars. We have demanding jobs and a family to provide for. Still, despite assor ted technologies we use to make life easier, our lives seem more complicated than ever. Why do we continue to feel so overwhelmed? Because we lack balance. Balance is a state of being where you have the different elements of your life in correct proportions to one another. If you think we just wake up knowing this kind of thing, think again. This is what consciousness, and consciousness alone, teaches us. Balance from within is nourishing. It encourages the good kind of stress: excitement, invigoration, and action. Here, in the inner experience, we learn to take care of ourselves and this, in turn, influences us to keep our balance in the external world of distractions, upsets, and heartbreaks. We must learn that our balance is not determined by our external circumstances, but by our inner state of being where inspiration lies. This balanced inner state of being develops from three disciplines.

DISCIPLINE 1 You must know yourself. By this I mean having a “sense of self.” No one in ego has a solid sense of self. The egoic child’s mind is up and running because of your fragile 34

w w w.myconsciouslifejour nal.com

sense of self and its seemingly inescapable insecurity. The egoic system is designed to protect you. The problem is that this is the operating system for most people their whole adult lives. We should be evolving past the egoic experience and into our highest selves, becoming more loving and altruistic—spiritual beings in all their glorious potential.

DISCIPLINE 2 You must know what you need. Knowing what you specifically need is called knowing your “balance points.” For example, my balance points are the people I love, animals, a garden, beauty, creativity of all kinds, fashion, new levels of learning about subjects that interest me, color, reading great literature, enjoying well-written scripts, and watching great actors. No matter what is going on in my life, who is in it, or who is not, I know I can always find my way back to my center if I can just experience my balance points. Your balance points might be very different from mine but are as important to you as mine are to me. These things must never be given up. You must honor yourself by using them no matter who your partner is or what his or her interests are, no matter your children’s demands on your time and energy, and no matter your crazy schedule.Your balance points are the things

that make you happy. Not having them . . . well, you already know how that feels.

DISCIPLINE 3 You must meet these needs on a consistent basis. Many people will hear my lectures and determine to experience their balance points. They’ll have a great two weeks and then revert to their old patterns of putting everything else above their own wellbeing. And then they wonder why they’re resentful, angry, and depressed. Be willing to make some changes in order to have a more balanced life: get a babysitter, turn off your phone once in a while, don’t jump to do every little thing, prioritize, and delegate. We all want to be liked. We want to be happy. We want to be loving. All of this first starts with the word “be.” We must take the time to find out, and then be, who we are. And this, my dears, is the beginning of a wonderful life. h Martha Burgess Novak is a peak performance trainer working with individuals and corporations. VISION All Manifesting Starts With

by Betty Humphrey Fowler

V

isualization has been proven to be one of the most powerful mind exercises to help people achieve their goals. A vision board puts your visualization into a form that you can see on a daily basis. It is important to focus on how you want to feel when you have achieved a specific outcome, rather than the specific item itself. Emotions create the energy behind the visual and are the driving force behind everything we want in our lives. The ultimate emotion we want is happiness—that joyous feeling of being one with life! Before designing your vision board, sit quietly for a few moments and consciously think about your current desires. Focus on finding appropriate photos, drawings, phrases, words, or other visual objects that bring a smile to your face and peace in your heart. As a Feng Shui consultant, I find dividing my vision board using the bagua, or energy map, is a wonderful way to address the “treasures” of my life. I draw a huge tic-tac-toe grid on my board, dividing the full area into nine equal spaces. Each space represents one area of my life. My inspirational pictures, words, and symbols

by Burge Smith-Lyons 36

w w w.myconsciouslifejour nal.com

are placed in the corresponding space. The center of the bagua represents my overall well-being, so I always place something grounding, peaceful, and beautiful there, something from nature such as stacked rocks or flowers. There are no rules to follow when designing your board, other than intentionally creating it while you see and feel your desires as if they are already achieved. You also want to feel your desired outcome each time you view your board. Place your board where you’ll see it and be inspired, daily. It can be on the back wall of your closet, across from your bed, on a wall in your bathroom, or in a central area of your home, such as a living room or kitchen wall. I always move mine around the first week to find the ideal location. Having your board as a daily visual reminder infuses you with positive energy and manifesting power without having to intentionally spend time praying or meditating over it, which can often create a feeling of scarcity or worry rather than happy anticipation! It is perfectly fine to only concentrate on one or two areas instead of all aspects of your life, or even make more

than one board. However, having a main vision board is a wonderful way to bring conscious thought to every treasure in your life as a whole. For example, my Family/Health section shows healthy eating, feeling good and strong, lean and fit. Mid-year, I shifted my nutritional focus, began taking supplements, and got back into regular exercising. I’ve lost over thir ty pounds and now feel stronger, leaner, and fitter than I did when I made my board. In the Creativity area I have a photo of a ranch style home which looks like the home we were renting, and loved. We ended up purchasing it last August. Vision boards do work to help manifest your true desires! Continuing to appreciate what you already enjoy is as important as what you anticipate happening.

W

the journey and not the outcome, chances are you will not set yourself up for disappointment. Your journey is the reason you are here. There is no destination. In other words, if going back home is the ultimate end of a vacation, then why go? You are already there at home. People go on vacation to enjoy the journey. Life’s directions can be enjoyed no matter what you create on the way because the destination is not the result.

herever you go, there you are! I love that saying because in the last thirtysix years of my teaching Essence of Being, many people ask, “How can I have more freedom, joy, and live my purpose?” One might think, “If I just fix or get rid of that person, place, or thing, I’ll be happy.” People get attached to how their life looks or how they show up or what success means. I always say, “If you get attached to the outcome, there is a chance you will be disappointed.” If you focus on

Life is like a fruit bowl. You have a lot of different colored fruit in your bowl and sometimes the fruit rots and you must replace it. The fruit can represent the “stuff ” in our lives like a new home, new car, new job, new relationship, new purpose, etc. We think that if we throw the old one out and get a new shiny object in the fruit bowl we will be happy. But after a while, the object starts to rot or get stale and we think “time to get a new piece of fruit.” This cycle continues forever until we realize that all we are doing is replacing the content in our lives, not our context. The fruit bowl remains the same, which is our paradigm or context or filter in which we see the world. If we want things to change or be okay with where we are, we must change the fruit bowl or our context. Once we change the perspective of who we are, everything changes. Remember, wherever you go, there you are! You cannot escape your own beliefs and paradigms and filters; however, you can shift them so that you can experience more freedom, joy, and happiness. h Burge Smith-Lyons is an international bestselling author, motivational speaker, intuitive healer, cer tified rebir ther, hypnotherapist, channeler, minister, and founder and CEO of The Essence of Being, Inc. Spiritual Bicycle

Y

ou are here to become the BEST that you can be. So let’s begin by directing the appropriate energies into the different aspects of your life. I like to illustrate this by using the “Spiritual Bicycle.” The spokes represent the different aspects of your life that need and desire your attention. It is your job to master these aspects as you move along on your spiritual journey. The back wheel of your spiritual bicycle is divided into four aspects: mind, body, spirit, and emotions. Start putting energies into these aspects through meditation, listening to your thoughts, feeling your emotions, and giving attention to your spirit and what makes you happy. You are being called to declutter your mind by cleaning up your mind-set and racing thoughts. You are being called to feel your emotions and when you’re stuck, get yourself moving because stuck emotions need motion.Your spirit loves to express itself. So sing, laugh out loud, take a walk in nature. You nurture your spirit by doing. The most valuable tool is observing your emotions. Emotions, like clouds, come and go; they are your internal guidance system telling you how you are feeling. Pay attention to what you are thinking about because there is no more room for “stinkinthinkin.” You get to become your own detective and clean up your life. Once you take care of the back wheel, those energies begin to move into the aspects on the front wheel. The front wheel is divided into eight parts: health, love life, financial, work, life purpose, family, spiritual, and fun and joy.

by Marilyn Segal

Without judgment, look to see where you spend most of your time and energy, and notice the areas that get the least amount of your attention. Taking ten percent of your energy from the area that gets the most attention and putting it into the area that gets the least attention will begin moving energy. For instance, if you do not take time to seek fun and joy in your life because you are too busy working and not making enough money . . . whew! Need I say more? It’s time to tweak some energy. Your soul is seeking some fun and joy. As a spiritual being having a human experience, it is important to feed and nourish your soul with fun and joy. When your spirit is happy, you can focus new energy on getting better results. New ideas will flow in effortlessly. The “bicycle” is a metaphor for your life and RIGHT LIVING. Life is a balancing act. So how are you doing? Are you willing to take this journey of loving yourself at the deepest level possible? As you heal and love yourself, others around you begin their process too. Love is all there is. Now, hop on your bicycle and get yourself moving. Remember, life is the journey. Balance Your Diet With By Brenda Cobb

H

ave you thought of adding more raw foods to your diet for health reasons, increased energy, better skin, or just out of curiosity? That’s great news! Sometimes people hesitate about eating raw because they think it is too challenging to eat only raw foods. I want to clarify that you can get a lot of benefits from including some raw food in your diet and you don’t have to eat 100 percent raw. Just start where you are and where you feel comfortable. Here are some tips on how to get started in a balanced way. Begin your day with a raw breakfast smoothie made with fresh fruit, vegetables, sprouts, and seeds. Chia seeds are grounding, warming, comforting, and full of protein, fiber, antioxidants, and omega-3 fatty acids. They lower the risk of heart disease and Type 2 diabetes. For lunch feast on a raw salad with a variety of your favorite greens and vegetables. If you are in the mood for something warm, try a steaming bowl of raw soup including carrots, red bell pepper, onion, garlic, cayenne pepper, and ginger. Use a Vitamix or other high-speed blender to blend and warm up the soup while preserving all the enzymes and nutrients that cooking destroys. Dehydrated crackers made with nuts, seeds, and warming spices like curry and turmeric keep you grounded and comforted. Crunchy dehydrated crackers can satisfy even your worst craving for junk food snacks. What could be more satisfying than a big plate of spaghetti? This is one of the easiest raw food dishes to prepare. Serve this delicious recipe (see recipe below) at room temperature or put it in the dehydrator and warm to 110 degrees. Sprinkle with some nutritional yeast for a cheesy-flavored meal without dairy. There are many approaches to eating raw. You could split up your day by having your morning smoothie, a lunch salad with dehydrated crackers and a bowl of raw soup, and then finish the day with a cooked dinner. Try the 50-50 plan where half of everything on your plate is raw, and the other half is cooked. Or eat raw for every meal during the week and eat cooked food on the weekends. There are so many ways to bring more raw

food into your diet and stay completely balanced. The most important thing is to make a plan you can live with, enjoy, and that makes you happy!

Tomato Basil Zucchini Spaghetti 1 cup sun-dried tomatoes 2 pitted medjool dates 3 cups alkaline water 2 cups fresh tomatoes ½ cup fresh basil 2 cloves garlic 3 Tbs. fresh lemon juice ½ tsp Himalayan salt dash cayenne pepper 1 Tbs. olive oil Soak the sun-dried tomatoes and dates in three cups alkaline water for two hours and drain the water off and reserve. Wait until these are fully soaked before preparing tomato basil sauce. Prepare the tomato basil sauce: Chop the garlic, dates, fresh tomatoes, sundried tomatoes, and basil. Blend well with pepper, lemon juice, salt, and olive oil.

ssential oils are a fantastic complement to supporting a balanced body, mind, and spirit. Beware of synthetic imitations and always use pure, therapeutic essential oils. One should experience and identify oils suitable for his/her body chemistry. The three oils highlighted below are only examples among a wealth of variety of essential oils.

YlangYlang

Ylang Ylang, meaning “flower of flowers,” is mostly known for its aphrodisiac properties. Noted as an oil that balances male and female energies, ylang ylang offers much more. It is calming for the body, mind, and soul. It has a sweet and uplifting aroma that repels negativity, helps deal with occasional stress and anxiety, and restores confidence. It is good for the heart, mind, and elevating the spirits.

Geranium

Often confused with rose oil and known as the “poor man’s rose,” Geranium oil offers a sweet and powerful aroma. Soothing to the emotions, elevating to the mind and spirit, and supportive of the body, Geranium balances, uplifts, and inspires. It is used to nourish beautiful and healthy skin, to support women’s occasional discomforts, to free the body from occasional tension and negativity, and foster well-being and peace.

OUTRAGEOUS

FREEDOM Stepping into Your Authentic Self

By Allyson Roberts

I

am often asked, “What is outrageous freedom, exactly, and how do I achieve it?” Hello, my name is Allyson Roberts, and I am the survivor of sexual, physical, emotional, spiritual, and mental abuse—mostly at the hands of my mother, but the entire family was taught to abuse me through lies, secrets, and neglect. This is the first step to outrageous freedom. You must declare who you are and where you come from, with absolute and complete honesty. The second step of outrageous freedom is to tell your story, so that others may heal, without living your story any longer. The freedom comes with knowing that “That was then, and this is now.” Without that, the role of perpetual victim comes out to play. There is no freedom or emotional security in being a victim. Next, you must insist on being the conduit of your own healing, asking for qualified help as needed. Without a healing path to whatever shadow is in your past, you may repeat patterns in your life that no longer serve you and, as a matter of fact, can seek to destroy you, especially if you walk the planet unaware. I call this “spiritual sleepwalking.” It’s a dangerous state of existence.

40

w w w.myconsciouslifejour nal.com

Combining your voice along with action, you then must make sure that you have healthy boundaries in place where your “no means no, and your yes means yes.” This includes being able to say you need time to think about something if you find yourself uncertain. This “self-permission” allows you to begin to see your own worthiness and that the world doesn’t collapse simply because your relationships shift in energy. Start today. Begin writing down all the things you want to achieve in this lifetime. Look at the list. What is standing in your way? You see, you cannot achieve any level of outrageous freedom if you feel caged in your own life. It’s impossible. So, the next step is to look at your life, examine your key players, and see if any changes need to be made. You know this already, most likely. No one is going to rescue you. The secret ingredient to outrageous freedom is realizing that no other relationship, no other job, no new house or car is going to “fix” you. You must step into the “hero” role and rescue yourself. hen you’re on the spiritual path, it’s not always about climbing towards that elusive summit. Sometimes you just need to get through the day. To help me with the daily grind is my well-read copy of Simple Abundance: A Daybook of Comfort and Joy by Sarah Ban Breathnach. I was gifted my copy years ago by a dear friend when my spiritual journey was less meaningful. In fact, I didn’t even open the book for about a year. It seemed a well-intentioned but useless gift. So I let it sit and gather dust. Then one day I began to read and simply fell in love. Simple Abundance offers 365 days of hope and promise in simple, practical ways. The author doesn’t claim to be an enlightened guru. She is a mother, housewife, struggling author, and dreamer who has her good days and bad days and found ways to make sense of them all. The book centers around six spiritual principles: gratitude, simplicity, order, harmony, beauty, and joy. Each principle

covers two months, time to ease you into the feeling of a new perspective and a way of being/doing. Each day of the year starts with a quote (from authors, poets, philosophers, magazines, and hymns) that summarizes the intention for that day. Then Breathnach explains the issue at hand and how to deal with it. January is the month of new beginnings and cherished memories. You’ll take a look at who you are and what you have, and begin to examine what you see through the lens of gratitude. May explores order—appreciation of the sacred in our daily lives. July embraces harmony, when the daily rigors of life subside with the onset of summer. And so on. One of the ways to achieve balance is by letting nature nurture us. Breathnach recounts how a woman’s Victorian brownstone fronts an alley full of prostitutes, drug dealers, drunks, and the homeless. Frequent attempts to keep the alley clean failed miserably until

the woman created a four-foot triangle overflowing with butterfly plants. The garden attracted her neighbors and now the alley is spotless and people have a way to commune with nature. “It’s a gentle but powerful reminder of ‘biophilia’— Spirit’s silent wake-up call that all of life is a sacred continuum.” Every time I read a page of Simple Abundance I am refreshed. My breath releases. My heartbeat slows. My spirit floods with light. Gratitude, simplicity, order, harmony, beauty, and joy—six “simple” principles to guide you. As you journey through life, let Simple Abundance be your constant reminder that there is an easier way. Our energy becomes imbalanced, reducing our ability to heal. Pain, illness and “dis-ease” can be the cause and effect of anxiety, fear, sadness and other emotions that are held in the body. You may feel stuck and unable to move forward. By restoring flow, holistic healing activates the body’s natural ability to heal. R EO rFi g i nLa l PEo e C T I O N S try and Musings See-Saw

by Michael M. Burke

What blessings appear for me to see All come down to what I saw Is perception a gift of recollection Can Truth be seen by its own inception Do I produce what I create Or am I created by what I produce Does a revelation actually reveal Or am I revealed by the revelation For in getting to know my Self I must let go of myself All that I know that’s related to vision Conjures upon me a state of division The painting is done before I begin But it’s up to me how the colors come in For to see is all about what I draw From what it is I think I saw Is a moment of Divine clarity A clearer perception of this painted confusion

Do my mirrors somehow become windows And are the windows part of the illusion I don’t have to see through to see within But I must go within to see through I believe the answer to Who Am I Lies in the question Who Are You Why did I draw you in to my life And why did you draw me in yours Is it to show that our happily ever afters Are actually all happily ever befores I’m a child on both sides of a see-saw As one goes up the other goes down And through a repeating point of balance A constant comes around And that is that I can truly trust This child in my playground Who knows that balance Is not something searched for Balance is something Constantly Found.
