Tyler Equipment Corp. Adds Rental Department Staff Tyler Equipment Corporation, the dealer of Volvo, Allied Hammers, Rogers Brothers trailers, Sennebogen, Craig Mfg. and Bandit in western Massachusetts and Connecticut, has announced three hires to its newly created rental department. “The employment of these three individuals is an investment into what we think is going to be an increase in the industry,” said Bill Tyler, vice president of Tyler Equipment Corp. “This is what we felt we needed to do to increase the service to our customers.” “The rental department is new — before the salesmen were in charge of rentals and sales,” said Brooke Tyler III, president of Tyler Equipment Corp. “Now we have full-time branch-level employees whose sole responsibility is rentals and inside sales. They are available to take calls every day and focus solely on providing the best customer support and service to customers interested in renting equipment. “They can now provide immediate assistance and service to any prospective customer that calls when a salesmen is unavailable. “Business has been good and we have seen a lot of growth within the company since last year. Tyler Equipment’s number one priority is that we maintain proper service to our customers,” Brooke Tyler said. Jasper Diers Jasper Diers is the sales representative and product support of eastern Connecticut, including the counties of Tolland, Windham and New London. He also is doing product support for northern Connecticut, including Northern

Litchfield and Hartford county. Diers began working for Tyler Equipment Corp. in 2002 and worked for the company for eight years. After a brief hiatus he returned to Tyler Equipment Corp in February. “I am happy to rejoin Tyler Equipment,” said Diers. “Working for the Tylers is great. The co-workers are good people … everyone has been here for a long time.” Sean King Sean King is now the rental coordinator of the East Longmeadow, Mass., location. He handles the trucking schedules and the daily rental activity. He also handles all incoming sales calls when sales representatives aren’t available. “This position was created so account coordinators can focus on sales. It takes a lot of pressure off them,” he said. King started working with Tyler Equipment Corp. approximately one year ago as a yard person at its East Longmeadow, Mass., location assisting the salesmen, organizing the yard, moving machines, etc. He helped Tyler Equipment Corp. with its transition from the old Prospect, Conn., location to its newer Berlin, Conn., location. “Doing this helped me get familiar with all of the attachments and machines.” King filled in at the rental desk in Berlin, Conn., then moved to East Longmeadow, Mass., store. But within that year, he said, “I learned so much about the equipment and dealing with customers. see TYLER page 6

New Rental Department Reflects Co.’s Belief in Future Increases in Industry TYLER from page 4
“I think it was easy for me to learn everything so fast because almost my entire family has been in this trade their entire lives so I have grown up around it. I owe a lot to my father [PJ Mason, sales manager of both of Tyler Equipment Corp.’s locations and branch manager of the Berlin, Conn., store.] From the time when I was a kid until now he has always been the one to show me the ropes. “I’m still young and learning every day, but that’s what makes me love my job so much … there is so much to learn and the fact that I love to help people, so working on the rental/sales side of things helps me a lot. “I hope to continue to learn and grow with Tyler Equipment Corp.” Roland Mason Roland Mason is the rental manager of both the East Longmeadow and Berlin locations, and is the rental coordinator for the Berlin store. This new position allows him to “put more eyes on inventory and watch closely as to what’s going on within Tyler Equipment Corp.’s rental operations,” according to the company. “He can focus solely on rentals.” He also is putting rental processes into place, such as
paperwork flow, and inventory controls. Mason previously worked at East PBE for 15 years as rental manager, then equipment manager and finally sales manager. He started in the equipment industry in the early 1980s with his father, working in the parts department at Shawmut Equipment’s store in Manchester, Conn. “I love working here [Tyler Equipment Corp.] The Tylers have been awesome. When you start with a new company there is always the possibility of it being just another place of employment, but there’s a whole new outlook here … it’s very exciting to be here. We have a lot of potential and I look forward to our future.” “The objective of these changes is to improve Tyler Equipment’s response to the customer on all rental inquiries, reduce the time, cost and number of personnel required to complete the process,” Brooke Tyler said. Tyler Equipment Corporation has been in business in southern New England since 1922. Its territory includes all of Connecticut and the four western counties of Massachusetts. Tyler provides sales, service, rentals and parts for all manufacturers it represents. Wesco Inc. Introduces Cormidi Line at Customer Event
I
t wasn’t only the annual Customer Appreciation Day at Wesco Inc. Tractors and Equipment held in late March. It also was a form of international diplomacy, international business and a new family partnership launched. One Italian construction equipment business family came to Norwalk, Conn., to spend two weeks with another. Brothers Armando and Sandro Cormidi, two of the managing partners of the family-owned Cormidi line of track skid loaders, track dumpers and other European equipment, introduced their new line to local customers of the Testa family’s Wesco Inc. Four Cormidi brothers own the mid-size contractors looking for the kind company. Two of them flew here for two weeks from of equipment offered by Cormidi. “We have a wide array of customers who use this type of equipment. We were searching for a niche product, something other than the typical equipment,” said Adam Testa. “They have been using this equipment in Europe for many years. It is a product that really holds up. The last thing we would do is bring a product here that is not tested or is unproven. That was our biggest concern. We would never let our customers be guinea pigs for some new-fangled product that looked nice, but didn’t perform. We would never get a customer angry [over such a product] because Sandro Cormidi demonstrates a track dumper to the attendees at it is our reputation that suffers. Bob Testa knew he had the right line to import. “We were looking for a product line that fits our business operation. We tend to sell to small to intermediate sized contractors, pavers, landscapers, light to medium construction. We looked at other company lines and we found the Cormidi line out of Italy. We made contact with them. We discussed our business plan and thoughts. They needed to see what kind of dealership we were. It was a great fit. The fact that we are a fatherson business and they are four brothers, we struck an immediate bond. With that, we shook hands and they asked me to become their distributor. Our long-term goal is to set up dealerships throughout the country.” “We started talking with the Testa family in September. In November, we started meeting,” said new partner Armando Cormidi. “We agreed to begin in March, to push into the American market. In Europe, we produced for YANMAR YCEE.
