Companies do not always have a clear idea of where to begin, or how to show progress, or how to maintain productivity. The reality is Safe Work Australia reported 7 worker deaths in manufacturing over the last year and 174 Australian workers were fatally injured while working during the course of 2019. Any number above zero must resonant with all business owners as they are ultimately responsible. A lack of knowledge on how to maintain productivity while making manufacturing safe is one of the biggest reasons behind businesses not ensuring safeguard measures on machinery. However, organisations can overcome the common challenges to machine safeguarding with a five-step process that incorporates a strategic plan, training, risk assessment, an implementation plan, and integration.
