MAY is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and to raise funds and awareness, tickets have gone on sale for the biggest event on the Noosa calendar. The annual Mingle with the Mayor Ball is to be held on September 3 at Peppers Noosa Resort & Villas. Hosted by Womenkind Australia Inc and Patron, Noosa Mayor Clare Stewart, the aim of the gala evening is to raise funds for transitional housing solutions for locals who are experiencing domestic family violence. Womenkind Australia Inc Founder Josanne Falla said that housing is a huge issue, especially in Noosa. “We already have a housing crisis and in 12 months’ time, the National Rental Scheme will end and we will have thousands back looking for housing on the Sunshine Coast,” Josanne said. “We need space now for these vulnerable members of our community and we need to make this a much bigger conversation and bring the whole community together.” “The event will not only raise funds for transitional housing for

victims of domestic and family violence but it will bring together a community of different organisations and start a very important conversation and get everyone joining in.” Cr Stewart said supporting Noosa’s domestic violence response was a Council priority. “The Shine Houses are one of Noosa’s longest-running and most successful domestic violence support initiatives.” “For more than a decade these houses have provided those who are fleeing violent family and domestic situations with transitional accommodation and access to support services in order to help them establish their independence, deal with trauma and get back on their feet.” “Back then, Council provided land for their construction and just recently we provided a further land parcel, and secured funding from the State, to assist with the construction of another house, which I’m pleased to say is now up and running.” But Cr Stewart said that the community also has a part to play and the ‘Mingle with the Mayor’ Ball is an opportunity to dig deep and be a part of the conversation. “Noosa is at its best when

it gets behind its own," Cr Steward said. "The community support and business support for the ‘Mingle with the Mayor’ Ball last year was overwhelming, to say the least.” “Last year’s Ball raised over a quarter-of-a-million dollars to dramatically increase access to specialist DFV counselling services in Cooroy and Noosa.” “I can’t wait to see what we achieve at this year’s event.” Josanne said this year’s Ball, themed The Enchanted Garden, is going to be a night of wow factors. “The theme means to deliver our dreams, to bring out the magic in the world and the room.” “We have an amazing special guest lined up and tentatively booked but yet to be confirmed.” “There will be fun, an amazing three-course meal by Matt Golinski, and endless cocktails together with the opportunity to bid on fabulous auction items and take part in other creative fundraising activities.” For more information on the Mingle with the Mayor Ball, visit: https://events.humanitix.com/ mingle-with-the-mayor-2022

The first event, the Dowling Cup, coincides with the Queen's Birthday long weekend in Victoria, New South Wales, Tasmania and South Australia and promises to be a country style polo experience featuring traditional car boot space hospitality, bars and food trucks, couple with live entertainment and traditional polo favourites including the divot stomp. Noosa Polo Cup Day is known as one of the premier sporting events for the Noosa region and will feature VIP marquees, fashions on the field, and high end entertainment. The invitiation only bespoke dining experience that is the Food & Wine Long Lunch with Chukkas will this year feature a menu inspired by Argentinian food, paired with premium wines and boutique craft beers. Player interviews and a live match will be played too. To find out more visit: noosacountrypolo.com
