We had a fantastic open-doors weekend for the first time in August 2008 and we thought it time to have another. Cornerstone is linking with five other Oxfordshire venues to celebrate arts and entertainment across the county and, specifically, the great venues where we can all come and enjoy ourselves.
Ages 16+ Arthur Smith is fantastic. An all-round institution and one of the funniest and most original comic performers on the circuit. One of the leading lights creating the alternative comedy that spawned the stand up of today, Arthur’s material remains current – and hilarious! A favourite on Grumpy Old Men, QI, Have I Got News for You on TV; Loose Ends, and Smith Lectures on Radio,
Arthur has also recently published his memoirs entitled, My Name is Daphne Fairfax, extracts of which are included in the show. Mirth, anecdotes, scandal and a little bit of rudeness! www.arthursmith.co.uk
There’ll be behind-the-scenes tours, workshop tasters, the chance to see a show setting up, walkabouts and open-air acts. Come and have a nose around, get stuck in or just watch – and find out what we can do at our local venues. Look out for more details nearer the time. EXHIBITIONS. Whether you are interested in contemporary art or in more traditional media, we hope to have exhibitions that inspire you. Already this year our walls have been adorned with landscape photography, monoprint, etching, woodcut and a unique style of painting using aerosols. We encourage you to share your thoughts on our exhibitions, recently one visitor to Jane Goodall’s exhibition of landscape photography said ‘Really amazing quality and light,
we may...buy one’. Artists value the opportunity to show and sell their work through Cornerstone and we are proud that inside many local homes you’ll find unique works of art seen and purchased right here - hanging on the walls!
Jim Vincent Imaginary Landscapes 12 May - 26 June Jim Vincent’s interest in a variety of artistic genres, including portraiture, landscapes, interiors and abstracts works, is testament to his 30 years of painting experience. This exhibition shows his most recent collection, a series of abstract paintings focusing on the relationship and oppositions between music and painting, expressed through the medium of oils, acrylics and mixed media to create textured collages.
12 July - 26 August An open exhibition showing local and regional artists’ responses to the theme Coast. The exhibition will include scenes of beaches in mid summer, the coast line in Britain or abroad, sea and plant-life. There is bound to be something that captures your imagination and takes to you to a far away place.
