Prophetic Fathers (A REDEMPTIVE PRAXIS)
I
f ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him? Matthew 7:11 What love I have for my father! I believe he is God’s blessing to my life. I began to consider what makes his fatherhood special and Godly. Consider these seven things about Prophetic fathers 1. Prophetic Fathers must know God personally. 2. Prophetic Fathers must hear God personally. 3. Prophetic Fathers must obey God personally. 4. Prophetic Fathers must be a constant source of hope.

Did I offend you? Part 1 ost of us get on the defensive when people offend us. We hold on to it for the principle sake, when we really ought to let it go.
M
instruments being used. We need not to focus on the offence but look at what caused the offence, because sometimes that very person who has offended may be in need spiritually.
Sometimes people can hurt us with their words or actions and do things that are unforgivable. But are we handling our offences in the flesh or in the spirit?
Matthew 6:15 says “But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” How much times have we done things that were unforgivable to Christ? God forgives us and shows us love, that’s the approach we are to take towards people who offend us.
The reason why we can get easily offended sometimes is because our expectations of other are high. They might be your family so you expect loyalty and respect from them, they might be your friends who you expect more from because you shared intimate feelings and thoughts with them. Whoever it is that offends you and how you deal with it is crucial to your own walk and growth. We set ourselves up when with think we will never get offended by anybody. Jesus tells us in John 17; 1 “Then said he unto the disciples, It is impossible but that offences will come: but woe unto him, through whom they come!” It is IMPOSSIBLE, so we are to expect it like true soldiers in Christ’s army. We have to be alert and on guard, knowing that the enemy can use anybody to get to you. But they are not your enemy, the devil is, they are just 4
The bible tells us we are to forgive 70 times 7. What makes us the judge to other people’s behaviours? Is God not the judge? Yes we probably wouldn’t do what they did, but just because we sin differently doesn’t make us higher or greater than them. I have never deserved forgiveness, but God still forgave me. If we see people through our fleshly eyes we would never forgive, but if we see people through our spiritual eyes, with the lenses that God places over them with the lenses of love, it will make it easy to forgive. Let’s forgive more quickly, love more quickly and walk in the spirit. Stacie Johnson

CARE TEAM
T
he Care Team is part of the Evangelism Department at NTCG The Rock. Our role, with the support of the Leadership team, is to encourage and support the new believers in their walk with the Lord. This is in line with the scripture in 1 Peter 2:2 “Like new born babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation”. As a team we will contact, assist, support and encourage the new believers through telephone calls, messages, emails, cards, as well as home visits. We encourage them to pray and read the word of God, trust, believe and depend upon the Lord for all things, all of which aids in their spiritual growth and development. We organise socials and events so the new believers can have, fellowship with one another and the wider church. Our Goal in line with ‘The Rock Principle’ is to ‘Reach’ and ‘Keep’ souls for the Kingdom and also to integrate the new believers into the life of the church.
NTCG CARE TEAM SPONSORED WALK JULY 4th 2015 Contact Lorna - 07794058149 to take part or to sponsor
We are currently organising a Sponsored Walk on 4th July 2015, to raise funds for a weekend Retreat with the New Believers. Our efforts will also support the local Food Bank which runs every Thursday at church. The sponsored walk is open to everyone who wants to take part. We hope you can join us or sponsor those taking part to help us raise funds for these worthy causes. For more information please speak to any members of the Care Team. S.O.S BIRMINGHAM - 2015
T
he distress signals of our souls are sounding! We got the chance to ask Jermaine ‘J-Man’ Straker, the founder of Restoration Movement UK, how he seeks to offer a safety net to those crying out for Christ to save their souls. Restoration is back by popular demand and is coming with something very different to what they have done before!
"Restoration is talkiNg about bringing something Back to its oriGinal intended stAte" 10
M A G A Z I N E
What is Restoration and how did it start? Restoration is a movement of young people who were once broken, have been restored, and are now telling others that God can, and will, restore everything that seems lost. How did it all start?……. Back in 2004 there were not many Christian events outside of the four walls, so at the age of 18 I started Restoration! A place where Christian artists could come and express and exercise their gifts and talents, over the years we started to add themes to our events like ‘Im Calling’ , ‘A Love Like This’ , and ‘Behind Closed Doors’ to name a few, we started to touch on areas that the church were scared to talk about and we started to see God deliver and save many. Why ‘S.O.S’? What is the thinking behind this theme? When someone becomes stranded or shipwrecked S.O.S is the most common distress signal, everyone from every country recognises what S.O.S stands for. The Lord showed me that people are stranded on their desert islands and they are screaming “S.O.S!”. People come to church and you would never know that behind the smile and the “I am blessed and highly favoured” is someone who is depressed, suicidal and without hope, this event is going to be a rescue mission.
Streets’ where we will be going to Birmingham City Centre to share the Gospel with the public, this will be facilitated by a group of young people from London called ‘Back to Acts’ . In the evening we will be having a concert with what I am calling a ‘4D sermon’ being preached, we will be turning the stage into a desert island with full props, sponsored and provided by the REP Theatre, so it’s going to be real different. Who are ‘Back to Acts’, tell us a bit more about what they are about? I like these guys! They go to Hyde Park, Dalston Market, Brixton and preach the Gospel on the street. I remember watching a video of them praying on road for a man who was on crutches. They are very radical and have such a passion to see people who would never walk inside a church, come to know Jesus. I know there are a remnant of people who take the Gospel outside the walls in Birmingham, I’m praying this will encourage more people to take to the streets! What is your expectation for Restoration? We call it ‘The 3 R’s’ .... Restoration, Restitution and Revival. You see, Restoration is talking about bringing something back to its original intended state.... now Restitution is not only bringing something back, but it’s recovering all and that little bit more! I’m expecting to see people who come in hopeless, catapulted into their God given purpose.
Is there going to be anything diiferent this time around to previous events? Yes, this particular event we will be launching an afternoon session called ‘Church on the

DAD
To celebrate Father’s Day we asked three of our own fathers what they find important when bringin up their children
Truchio Powell 4 children As a father, it is important that I communicate with my children. We have weekly meetings to highlight their achievements throughout the week. I remind my children everyday that they are loved dearly. I lean heavily on the bible for teachings as to how to raise my children. I have four children. One birth child and three adopted children.
14
Riccardo Griffiths 3 children When i was growing up, there was a seperation between discipline and love, there seemed to be a lot of discipline and a lot less love. I have tried to raise my children with a balance of both. letting them understand what they have done wrong and praising their good deeds and showing them love. I have 3 children, 1 girl and 2 boys. I have taught my boys that manners and respect is also paramount to building them into men.
M A G A Z I N E
Jermaine Straker 4 children When it comes to Fatherhood, I have a great example that has been set before me by my Father. Fatherhood is about legacy, guidance and consistency. I am a father of 4 children, 2 girls and 2 boys, my eldest is 13, 9, 8 and then 18 months. For my daughters, I affirm them. I will be the reference point in which they measure all men they encounter in life. They see how a woman is supposed to be treated by the way I treat my wife and they will not accept anything less. For my Sons, I daily try to teach them the value of not shying away from responsibility and to do the right thing even when it’s not popular. Fatherhood is one of the greatest gifts that God can bestow on a man.
“As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him” Psalms 103:13
FATHER’S DAY AT THE ROCK We’ll be celebrating our fathers on Father’s Day (Sunday 21st June) at The Rock as part of our Highgate District Men’s Empowerment Fellowship. All details can be found on the back page and also on NTCG The Rock Facebook page 15

MUSIC CORNER
ESTELLA LETMAN
I
t’s NTCG Highgate District Convention and Bishop Jonathan Jackson, stands at the pulpit, holds up a CD case, and says ‘Where’s Estella?!’ Sheepishly coming from the seats behind him, where she was seated with the weekend’s worship team, she stands while raising her hand. ‘Let’s give it up for one of our own! This is her new single called ‘Hallelujah!’, Bishop exclaims in his excitement. After the embarrassment died down and we went for our break, I managed to grab a quick chat with Estella to talk about her new single and subsequent solo venture. Here’s how it went...
16
Adrian Howe: What is the new project and what inspired you to do it? Estella Letman: I‘m currently working on my album (my first, as a soloist). The album will simply be a collection of Urban/Contemporary, and a hint of traditional Praise songs, which I have written. I’ve been writing for a while, and a lot of my songs have not been heard. More of my songs were written very soon after having my daughter, 5 years ago, and I remember spending much of my maternity leave with baby in one arm, and pen & paper in the other hand. Songs were just downloading, and continue to do so. In the quietness, and prayerful moments of those days, I remember feeling really challenged by God to SING the gospel. (I say this, because I had offers to do Background Vocals for secular artists. Opportunities came, but I had my own convictions about it, and I had decided to turn them down). To sing the gospel, was a mandate on my life given to me in previous years, and I didnt do much about it, but I couldn’t get away from it. I began to hear the challenge of God again last summer, and things became more clear to me this is what I had to do, this year (or at least commence the process). God wanted me to give my testimony and the Gospel message in the way He gave it to me. I hadn’t planned on making a move like this as a soloist, at all, but it is what it is today. I eventually
M A G A Z I N E
figured it was just time to get on with it, and my Husband, family and Bishop (John Jackson) was, and is still very supportive. I met the right people, and made necessary arrangements, etc, and God just made a way. He made it quite clear to me, it was just TIME. AH: Inspiring story! When can we expect the release of the album? EL: It’s an album, so i’m taking my time to get it done, so this will be a continual process. I’ve no release date for the album as yet, but hoping sometime next year. I had released my recent single “Hallelujah” in February (2015), and my second single is almost completed, so looking forward to releasing that one soon. Just putting a few things in place. So, hopefully, I should be able to drop nuggets of my music until the album is complete. AH: This isn’t the first time you’ve recorded music... You were once part of a group, correct? EL: Yes, I was/am/was (lol) a third member of the gospel group Nu Life. We were initially extracted from a choir (by our then Choir director - Ms Audrey Lawrence-Mattice), to form a group, and we were entered into a teen talent competition. This was back in 1993,
and we were teenagers!! But long story short, we won the competition, and we had decided to stay together for a further 13-14 years after that. During that time, we experience a lot, met alot of people and we had favour, and got to sing in many places, including going on tour in Luxemburg with the brothers of Dawkins&Dawkins, from the USA, and also performing for the Queen...we had even managed to obtain a MOBO award for best gospel album in 2006. To God be the glory! Now, we’re all wives and mothers, with our own mortgages, lives and purposes. We’re like sisters...we’re quite close, although we may not see each other as often as before. The other 2 ladies of the group (Dionne Hepburn, and Maryanne Bean) are very excited for me, as I take on the challenge of continuing to sing the gospel. AH: And finally... How can we get a hold of the single? EL: At the moment, you can get my single on iTunes, amazon, or any online outlets; or you can contact me on facebook, if you need to place an order. My website is under construction at the moment.
