his month we focus on family, with our Family & Community Service on August 23rd. So what does the Bible say about Family?
The concept of family is extremely important in the Bible, both in a physical sense and in a theological sense. The concept of family was introduced in the very beginning, as we see in Genesis 1:28, “God blessed them and said to them, ‘Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground.” God’s plan for creation was for men and women to marry and have children. A man and a woman would form a “one-flesh” union through marriage (Genesis 2:24), and they with their children become a family, the essential building block of human society. Let us remember that family is not just the future of our own legacy, but also of society and the backbone and foundation of humanity. We must be more practical in the way we empower our families. Pray together and seek God, together. Bishop Jonathan Jackson

Did I offend you? Part 2 love, that God gives to us, we are able to see them through God’s eyes and love them as Christ loves us.
S
o, we forgive people of the offence, but we still feel the pain of what they did. You don’t hold it over them but when you see them it still hurts. But what does the Bible say about how we are to deal with the people that offended us? Not only does he expect us to forgive but God wants us to pray for them and love them as Christ loves us. The Bible says in Luke 6:28 “Bless those who curse you. Pray for those who hurt you.” He goes on to say also in John 13:34, “A new commandment I give unto you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.” Prayer is the solution to the start of our healing and by keeping on the lenses of

When we pray for them we are basically allowing the wounds in our hearts to be healed and we pray to give god a chance through his grace and mercy to change them from hurting anyone or you again. Who has hurt you? Have you asked God to heal you? Have you prayed for them? It is hard sometimes to love past our pain, but God doesn’t give us more than we can bare. If we allow God to strengthen us when we feel weak, we are more than able through him to overcome any hurt, any pain or problems. Sometimes addressing that person in love can also help us to heal because we no longer hold the pain, we share it. God has everything you need to give you healing, to restore relationships and put all offences behind. Cast all your cares on to him because he cares for you. Stacie Johnson

in. Sheldon Neil, one of Canada’s most prolific speakers and upcoming recording artists, is pleased to announce his UK summer tour entitled, “Evolve”, July 28th - August 12th 2015. This exciting tour will combine the inspired preached word of God, by Min. Sheldon Neil, and in your face, high energy LIVE performances from Min. Sheldon Neil’s own, award-nominated, gospel group, ‘The Way’. The Way is a group of young-people set to bring a unique sound to the presentation of the gospel to the world. Sheldon Neil was born in Canada’s national capital city – Ottawa, Ontario. He is an international speaker and ordained minister, with the Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ of Apostolic Faith (C.O.O.L. J.C.). Sheldon Neil is also a recording artist signed to the Redeeming Music Label. His anticipated album Y-Evolution is taking listeners by storm! He is an accomplished Journalist with a Bachelors Degree. He is no stranger to television or radio. He has worked as a reporter, producer and on-host for a variety of Canadian media. I caught a few hours with NTCG The Rock’s musical director, COURTNEY KING, just two days before his annual summer ministry trip oversees to talk about his time at The Rock, projects, ministry and faith!
P
icture the scene... Courtney comes rushing out of his house while juggling between closing the front door and putting on his cream suit jacket. He gets in the car and says ‘Yeh man, so, I’m gonna take you to this place... They sell the best Caribbean food!’ We eventually get to ‘Golden Spoon’ (Smethwick). Courtney walks in proud and excited as I come trudging along behind with my camera bag. ‘Yes sir... My usual, please! And a fried chicken dinner for my friend also! Thank you!’ He then turns to me and says ‘I think you’re gonna like this, bruv’ gleeming with excitement. So what’s the usual? I hear you ask... Well, as the food eventually came I looked at his food... I’m seeing all sorts; Oxtail, chicken and I think some mutton on top of a bed rice & peas and covered with steamed veg. This guy loves his food, as do I, so you can imagine it took us at least 15 mins before we actually started talking. You can’t eat with your mouth full, plus, I doubt either of us would anyway, as we were too busy enjoying our food! When our polystirine boxes were eventually empty, this is what I found out about NTCG The Rock’s Musical Director......

THE EARLY YEARS Courtney has been at NTCG The Rock all of his life (26 years now). He is admittedly very old skool when it comes to church. A man that heavily appreciates some of the older ways, songs and people. He remembers the days when the congregation was alot smaller than the 200+ weekly atendees The Rock is used to now and recalls nights, as a child, where you would be at church for hours on end waiting around as the saints would be tarrying for the Holy Ghost, weekly prayer meetings and family training and being put up for exhortations and he believes it’s those things that taught him about the importance of seeking God. He knows now that many things are different now but ‘The church is a bigger entity, right now. But my prayer is that we don’t lose the power (glory) of God. It’s great to be a part of a big church, it’s great to build big congregations, but if we were to ever lose God, if the glory of God was to ever leave the church, it’s a dangerous
thing! I’m proud of where our church is... And with the young people, I pray that they have a hunger for God and to really seek and go after Him!’
LOVE FOR THE SENIORS His appreciation for the ‘old’ and especially the older members and stalwarts of the church comes from his time and memories of his Grandmother, who was the one that would bring him to church each week. Being around her and being guided by her thoughout most of his life. Courtney makes no secret of the love he has for the older generation and has expressed it on numerous occassions, but most notably through the last two projects of The Rock Mass Choir, which he directs. ‘The Pentecost Experience’ (2013) was a project that focused on songs that have helped define the Pentecostal church. Songs like ‘Ride On King Jesus’, ‘He Touched Me’ and ‘What A Friend We Have In Jesus’. And the most recent project ‘The Golden Years’ (2014), where during the night of the recording the seniors were sat infront of the choir, facing the audience, as similar to the style to ‘The Gaithers’ and some even sang solos.

spotlight direction of Courtney, his team and the dedication of all invovled. Courtney has seen the progression of the ministry of the past 15-20 years. ‘Back in the day before we even had a worship team, before we even had people at the front to sing, we used to just have someone in the congregation or the moderator would just raise a song! That’s how it used to be... Then we had ‘song/chorus leaders’, two or three dedicated members of the congregation that would raise the song and the band would just have to pick it up! There was no rehearsal, no team of 15 singers of which 6-9 singers are on stage each Sunday, like we do now’ So when you see Courtney on a Sunday at his keyboard beaming with pride and passion you begin to understand his joy in the progression of the Music Ministry to what it is known for now.
SUMMERTIME It is through this passion and dedication to music that has brought Courtney many opportunities in his relatively short life (remember he is only 26!) Being able to minister at countless different churches, playing at conventions and also ministering abroad both with his former group ‘King’s Ministries’ and by

himself. Something that has now become an annual fixture for Courtney in the last 5 years. Each summer Courtney jets across the Altantic to Canada where he spends up to two months travelling to different churches in different countries to deliver choir direction, worship workshops & training, organising events and ministering at conferences (He’ll be halfway through his stay at time of press). What started out as being a small tour of Canada has now evolved, to where this year Courtney has been blessed to be travelling throughout Canada, USA and the Caribbean. As you can imagine, such a project is not funded easily and both faith and dedicated fundraising needs to be done each year. Courtney has turned his skills to many things, as well as working full time jobs he has also raised funds through his barbering talent and also love of male suit accessories, through his small company ‘King’s Bespoke Accessories’ where he has been selling men’s ties, bow ties and pocket squares... Something he plans to expand on on his return to the UK. But the most prominant occassions are those of faith, faith that God will also provide at times where you think he may have forgotten about you, or time is running out. He shared this... Two years ago when ministering at a church he mentioned the work he would be doing and called for a small offering to help fund the work
he was about to embark on in Canada. The request was for members of the congragtion, who felt lead to, to donate £5 and £10 into his ministry, relatively small seeing as the target needed at the time was around £1,000... ‘The pastor of the church came up to me after service had finished and said “There’s an envelope here from someone saying... You don’t know who i am but i am so blessed by this young man’s ministry that God’s told me to sow this into his life and to the project that he is doing. Here is a cheque”... I opened it, looked at the cheque... One, zero, zero, zero......... I almost started bawling! I couldn’t believe it!!’ God always provides! On that note, we wiped our mouths and hands, picked out the food from inbetween our teeth and dusted ourselves off and embarked on our next destination for the evening ‘Shiloh Apostolic Church: Landmark Convocation’ where Courtney was guest keyboard player for the evening... Yes, two nights before leaving for Canada! Only Courtney King! AH
