PART THREE PRODUCT HIGHLIGHTS
NEWS | TOP TEN HIGHLIGHTS Here we present our top ten product highlights from a selection of our International Partner Brands who all exhibited at Salone del Mobile 2017:
1. LUNE SOFA BY JAIME HAYON FOR FRITZ HANSEN AT THE MAGICAL POP-UP ‘FRITZ HOTEL’ Curated by Jaime Hayon, the Fritz Hotel was a magical place where the impassioned tropics met the cool minimalistic north, celebrating the long lasting and close cooperation between the fiery Spanish designer and the Danish manufacturer of timeless design. Dubbed ‘Scandinavian Tropical’ by Jaime Hayon, the Fritz Hotel was a temporary installation in Brera that showcased the world of Fritz Hansen during MDW17. The major news launched by Fritz Hansen at Milan Design Week was the new modular Lune sofa. Forget all your conventional thoughts about modular sofas. Lune is different. Born out of Hayon’s Ro™ and Fri™ chair design concepts, Lune is based on the same curvy design philosophy, making it quite distinct from other modular sofas. The bold design looks and feels like a conventional sofa but offers the versatility of a modular construction. The functional, modular system offers unlimited possibilities, from a straight two-seater to larger L-shapes, along with chaiselongue options. Hayon’s addition of a unique aesthetic dimension to the flexible, modular sofa concept ensures that Lune is not only extremely comfortable but also beautiful from every angle.

2. YUH COLLECTION BY GAMFRATESI FOR LOUIS POULSEN For the first time in eight years, Louis Poulsen returned to Salone del Mobile to launch its latest news; a spectacular collection of lighting designed by studio GamFratesi housed within a special stand installation also designed by this trailblazing design-duo. Both the new YUH collection and stand illustrated Louis Poulsen’s simple and beautiful design philosophy of ‘shaping light’. The new YUH collection is named after the phonetic form of ‘you’; reflecting the flexible nature of the lamp - which comes in floor, wall and table styles. The most essential feature of the light is that it is personal; it can rotate, rise and lower, illuminating and creating ambience which can be tailored to your exact needs. Geometric in form, the light forms a minimal silhouette created from simply a circle and a line. YUH is available in black or white in three styles: wall mounted, floor and table.

3. POLTRONA FRAU EXTENDS REN COLLECTION BY NERI & HU The series of REN accessories by Neri & Hu for Poltrona Frau has grown, with the addition of a bookcase, magazine rack and table mirror. As with the rest of the collection, the supporting structure is in solid Canaletto walnut. The joints between the upper crosspiece and the sides are decorated, internally, by brass elements. The magazine rack is a sheet of Cuoio Saddle Extra leather attached to the upper wooden crosspiece by two brushed steel bars with brass finish, to become an elegant and tactile container. The bookcase is a graphical weave of lines. The two lateral uprights, slightly inclined, support the birch plywood shelves, upholstered in Cuoio Saddle Extra leather and with a Canaletto Walnut veneer on the sides. The upper crosspiece is fixed to the wall using metal hooks with a natural brass finish. The bookcase comes in a low version with a round multi-purpose tray upholstered in Cuoio Saddle Extra leather hanging from the upper crosspiece, and in a tall version. Both variants can be completed with bookends in brushed steel with a natural brass finish. The table mirror consists of a round element (310 mm in diameter) supported by two lateral uprights and two crosspieces. The internal surface of the mirror frame, upholstered in Cuoio Saddle Extra leather, is decorated with a brass band.

4. ANGLEPOISE LAUNCHES CERAMIC & METALLIC RANGES This year at Salone del Mobile’s Euroluce Exhibition, British lighting brand Anglepoise celebrated tactility and materiality with the launch of Ceramic + Metallic; a new series of on-trend finishes for the brand’s classic and much-loved range of desk, wall, floor and ceiling lamps. Ceramic Collection The new 4-piece Anglepoise Ceramic Collection exudes simplicity and elegance. The glossy smoothness of the pure bone china shade is complemented by smart, chrome-plated fittings. When the light source is switched on, the white gloss-finished shades turn translucent, radiating a soft and ambient light around the room. This premium collection includes a wall, table and pendant, along with a cluster pendant - a first for Angelpoise. Metallic Collection In addition to the Ceramic Collection, Anglepoise is proud to announce that the anodised brushed aluminium finish that has proved so popular in their Type range is now available in Gold and Copper Lustre, as well as the original Silver. Applied to three classic designs, the Type 75™ Mini desk lamp (now with switch seamlessly integrated into the top of the shade), the Type 75™ Mini wall light, and the updated Type 1228™ wall light, this sophisticated Metallic Collection brings a beautiful new richness to the functional elegance and faultless engineering that is synonymous with Anglepoise.

5. MAGIS EXTENDS OFFICINA COLLECTION WITH UPHOLSTERED DESIGNS The Magis stand at Salone del Mobile 2017 was centred around a museum-like concept, expressed though light structures framed in bold primary colours. Against a backdrop of crisp white, these colourful lines frame the many new product releases from the likes of the Bourouellc brothers, Jaime Hayon and Konstantin Grcic. Our product highlight was extensions to the Officina collection. With the Officina collection, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec developed a new creative language for forged iron. Following on from the tables, chair, stools and accessories, the collection now expands to include a series of upholstered pieces. A voluminous lounge chair, ottoman and sofa are introduced, along with upholstered and timber options for the classic chair design.

6. CARL HANSEN & SON INTRODUCE NEW CHAIR DESIGNS AT THE MILAN HOME For this year’s Milan Furniture Fair, Carl Hansen & Søn created an apartment that explored the way we translate the house we live in into our home. Complete with a hall, kitchen, dining, study, living and bathroom, The Milan Home was a beautifully curated space that featured bold colours and unique details. Styled by Despina Curtis, the six rooms showcased new and existing products in unique ways. Our product news highlights at The Milan Home include the new Rocking Nest Chair by Anker Bak along with the reintroduced PK1 Chair by Poul Kjaerholm and Beak Chair by Ole Wanscher.

7. PREVIEW OF BILGOLA BY ADAM GOODRUM FOR NAU AT LOCAL MILAN Set within a spectacular historical church in Milan’s 5VIE district, the LOCAL MILAN installation by Emma Elizabeth showcased the work of 11 established Australian designers, each chosen for their crucial role in the current Australian designer landscape. Among the 11 designers was Adam Goodrum, a talented industrial designer who has worked in partnership with Cult since 2014. Goodrum used the LOCAL MILAN installation as an opportunity to preview his new Bilgola collection; a beautiful series of timber furniture inspired by the modernist architecture prevalent on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. Goodrum has designed this collection for NAU. Established by Cult, NAU is a contemporary design brand, offering furniture and lighting by a collective of Australia’s most spirited designers. NAU will launch internationally in May at ICFF, New York and locally in June at DENFAIR, Melbourne. Stay tuned for more!

8. NEW JUDY ARMCHAIR FROM ZANOTTA We are thrilled to announce the introduction of Zanotta into the collection at Cult! This iconic Italian design company is known for its classics by the likes of Marco Zanuso and Achille Castiglioni, along with contemporary design collaborations with Gabriele Rosa, Frank Rettenbacher and Terri Pecora. Established in 1954, Zanotta is celebrated for its diverse manufacturing techniques, exceptional quality and approachable liveable pieces for everyday life. Within Hall 16 at the Salone del Mobile fairgrounds, the Zanotta stand is an impressive palace; white and minimal architecture with large clear openings and small windows through which to peer into scenes from daily life. Video installations showcasing people performing everyday domestic activities are also used to enhance this concept. Beautifully styled by Studio Salaris, the space is divided into nine settings, each defined by a precise chromatic shade. According to Alessandra Salaris, “The colours selected, one for each setting, are declined in shades that talk to each other and harmonise in a balance of shapes and colours. Our favourite pick from the Zanotta 2017 product news is the sculptural Judy armchair; a stunning highback lounge chair with a timber shell and inner upholstery.

8. CELESTIAL ACCESSORIES BY DARIEL STUDIO FOR CAPPELLINI Cappellini presented the 2017 collection at ‘Cappellini Point’ in Bastioni di Porta Nuova, with a vibrant installation complete with striking colours and avant-garde design. This year, the contemporary Italian design brand went down an oriental path, with an east-meets-west aesthetic seen in the new products, branding and installation styling. Taking cues from the natural world, tiger, flower and celestial motifs are seen throughout the new collection, which was presented against post-modern 80s-style frescos. Our product highlights include the Blue Candleholders and Off The Moon Tray by Dariel Studio. Blue Candleholders Thin and rounded stems are the distinctive feature of the pair of candlesticks in laminated metal with base in durmast veneer; decorating the space while lighting it with blue indigo colour enhancing their shape. Off the Moon Like the moon reflecting into a mirror of water, a brass tray with copper finishing in polish pink. The simplicity of lines emphasizes the decorative sphere while evoking the mesmerizing beauty of the universe.

10. EXTREMIS LAUNCHES ITS LATEST ‘TOOL FOR TOGETHERNESS’ WITH THE VIRUS COLLECTION A highlight at the Extremis stand was the launch of Virus; a picnic table in various guises. Dirk Wynants has designed different versions based on an identical seating frame for two to five people. This is a fun way of filling a space with a mixture of small to medium-sized seating sets without losing uniformity. The compact design responds to the trend for smaller living spaces, offering a solution that enables you to use the design on balconies and in urban gardens. Virus is available in four different sizes including a 2-seater, 3-seater, 4-seater and 5-seater. The indoor version is made with structured powder-coated steel and the outdoor version is zinc-coated for extra durability. Choose from seven colours including black, white, earth, silk grey, reed green, wine red and sky blue.
