ailor Made T

WHEN A HOME MEETS THE LIFESTYLE of its occupants to a T, it’s not by chance. The right team of builder, architect and designer make it happen, down to every last detail. The customization of this one-of-akind home is so on point, it’s easy to imagine how each space lives for its owners. The quality construction amplifies the design details in every room making it a clear standout on the 2023 Spring Parade of Homes. A big congratulations goes to JDH Custom Homes as a clear winner of “The Best of Spring 2023” honors.

A true, custom builder, JDH Custom Homes has been building unique, tailor-made homes since 2007. With an appreciation for timeless design, the company is open to building all home styles with a commitment to excellence. Owner Josh Hankamp is a trim carpenter by trade and is still today, very much a hands on builder with a passion for creating impressive, “out-ofthe-ordinary” design elements with exceptional results.

“We tend to build a lot of forever homes,” said Josh. “This home, for instance, has a very timeless feel yet it is really unique to what this family wanted. It sits on over 40 acres of land where the owner wanted to build his dream home.”

Garage Door

(Opposite Page) The handcrafted, wood overhead door, from Environmental Door, is a warm and beautiful complement to the contemporary exterior. It is made of hemlock, tongue and groove and has a custom stained finish. From the Wayne Dalton series, this hand built door was custom made to the home’s specifications with thorough attention to every detail.

Lighting

The outdoor landscape lighting, from The Lighting Corner, features products from WAC and Kitchler. The WAC mini spots illuminate the trees and have a wide variable wattage range allowing your spaces to be as bright or as dim as you desire. The Kitchler path lighting is very popular as it brightens paths and walkways with subtle beauty.

Railings

The one-of-a-kind railing created by GR Metal Works for this stairway gives a contemporary feel to the transitional space. It was designed to bring a modern twist to natural tree branches inside. It is an architectural work of art, custom to this home.

Interior designer, Kristi Carlson of Infinite Concepts worked with the owners early on to help them create their ideal home. “This edgy family was nothing but a joy to work with,” said Kristi. “Truly, the list of exceptional detail, product and craftsmanship on this project make it an absolute, high-end stand out in any crowd. All things urban finds the perfect rural setting — talk about the best of both worlds!”

The grand foyer is a bright and artistic welcome to the home. Flooded with light from an abundance of windows, the space is punctuated with special details under a 14-foot ceiling that emphasizes a spacious feel. On one side, an eyecatching, custom railing system highlights the way to the lower level. On the other is an impeccably stylish home office next to an oversized hallway that is illuminated with 13 up-lit niches, leading to the primary suite. Colorful artwork and intriguing light fixtures accentuate the home’s modern appeal.

“As soon as you walk through the front door, you’re hit with this captivating space,” said JDH Custom Homes’ in-house interior designer, Stephanie Lustey. “From every angle you see something that catches your eye.”

Appliances

The home’s gourmet kitchen features state-of-the-art appliances from Gerrit’s Appliance including Sub Zero, Wolf and Cove products. The 36-inch all fridge/freezer built-in unit is the ultimate for space and overall food preservation. The dual fuel Wolf Pro Range provides incredible cooking performance. The Cove dishwasher, the newest in the Sub Zero family, features ultra quiet operation and flexibility for loading all different types of cookware, utensils, pots and pans.

The primary suite is a relaxing escape to luxury. An elongated fireplace inset in a stone-look, porcelain wall adds warmth to the neutral palette. Double doors open to a fabulous closet/dressing room for two. The primary bathroom is a lavish space that continues the suite’s palette with a large, beautifully-tiled shower. The suite overlooks the pool area and beautiful property with a glass door leading to a multi-season patio complete with a small kitchen with infrared heating, a gas fireplace and motorized drop-down screens.

The home’s gourmet kitchen continues the modern aesthetic with a waterfall quartz island and sleek cabinetry, built on-site by JDH’s trim carpenters. State-of-the-art appliances and an open butler pantry increase the space’s luxury feel as does the adjoining dining area with unique wine display. Another elongated fireplace wall makes for cozy fireside meals and fabulous entertaining.

“The dining room and kitchen boast elegance and command attention with the layers of lighting, waterfall edge island countertop and fireplace with built-in wine rack,” said Stephanie.

The great room showcases more artistic details and is a well-appointed complement to the home’s timeless yet unique design. Anchored with a 12-foot high, bookmatched porcelain fireplace surround, the room instantly feels spe-

Fireplaces

The home includes multiple fireplaces but the one in the great room is a stand out. Here, a12-foot high, bookmatched porcelain surrounds an 84-inch DaVinci gas insert from Fireplace Gallery. It’s modern elegance at its best complemented by a slat, white oak ceiling inlay with color changing backlights. The space is ideally appointed with an alcove bourbon nook that sets a scene right out of vintage Hollywood.

The space is ideally appointed with an alcove bourbon nook that sets a scene right out of vintage Hollywood. Just looking at it makes winding down from a long day easier.

“The great room ceiling is an example of the different things we like to tackle,” said Josh. “It has a metal frame welded in and is back lit — it took our metal fab guy, our trim guy — our whole team, our AV guy to make that work but, when it’s all done, we were excited with the results.”

The lower level also offers great options to kickback and unwind including a comfortable family room with a handsome fireplace. A theater room with 18 recliners brings the true, bigscreen experience home and a nearby snack bar completes the “at-the-movies” feel. An exercise room on this level is also a must for a family that likes to stay active.

Staying active might be an understatement for these homeowners. With plentiful acreage, the owners created their own dirt bike course surrounding a large, man-made pond. The nearby

“We had a lot of fun with this build,” said Josh. “These homeowners were great to work with from the initial sit down meeting till the very end. It was one of those builds where, when it was all done, we said that was cool.”
