Alicante province to avoid worst of latest heatwave The Alicante province is set to escape the ‘alert’ for high temperatures this week but elsewhere, temperatures will reach the high 30s. According to predictions by Spain’s met office, AEMET, the week will begin with cloudy skies across much of the Valencian Community but temperatures will rise by around Wednesday when bursts of hot, dry air continue to arrive from the Sahara. Coastal winds will bring temperatures in some areas down by as much as three degrees, but weather experts warn that many areas in Alicante – especially inland – will experience extremely high temperatures around midweek. A total of 40 Spanish provinces are on alert for high temperatures this week, 14 of them with
'orange alert' (significant risk) and will reach temperatures of 40 degrees, according to the predictions of the State Meteorological Agency. This will be the latest in a series of heatwaves which have swept across the country since June. Last month, temperatures broke records as 33 weather stations recorded their hottest ever weather for June – some measuring as much as three degrees above previous records.
Spain recorded its highest temperature ever in July 2017, when thermometers in Córdoba measured 46.9 degrees. The hottest temperature for on record for the month June was logged in 1965 at the monitoring station at Seville airport, when the temperature reached 45.2 degrees.
