Who are you and where are you from?

I’m Matt and I’m from Rochdale just outside Manchester
You are an Expat living in Marbella, what attracted you to the Costa del Sol?
The prospect of an outdoor lifestyle more conducive to being fit and healthy, and of course the sunshine!
Why did you become a personal trainer?
By accident at first just to make money whilst at university, but I found that I loved helping people achieve their goals so much and I’m coming up to 20 years in the job!
What are your personal fitness goals?
Still the same as they’ve always been, to be bigger, stronger, faster, leaner and more flexible!
What qualifications have you earned?
I have BSc Hons in Sports Science, Certi- fied Strength and Conditioning Specialist with the NSCA, England Amateur Boxing Coach, Gym Instructor Level 3 and a ton of other courses I have done and forgotten about.
Have you trained anyone Famous?
I worked with Frank Grillo over in LA, I’ve trained Nikki Sanderson, Lee Ryan, Tony Jeffries and a bunch of premiership footballers and professional boxers over the years.
What types of fitness classes do you do?
I specialise in bodybuilding style training, getting people lean and toned, and I also teach boxing and kickboxing. I´m a former England Team Kickboxer.
What do you know about nutrition?
I know that nutrition has much more to do with the psychology of an individual and habits, and I have been a student of nutrition for over 20 years.
What would you say to someone who is anxious about starting fitness exercises?
Take it one step at a time, do something simple to begin with, and if you are worried or nervous then I would hire a coach to take you through everything and if they are good, they will make you feel at ease right away!
