If You Want To Be A Winner, Make Your Warm Up Routine Count!

The main reason it’s essential to create a warm up routine before you play is to prepare your muscles and joints for the game ahead and to achieve a nice rhythm in your swing. Therefore it is important to warm up in the right order.

1. Warm Up With Pitch Shots

If you look at professionals on the driving range before a game, you will see nearly all of them start their warm up by hitting pitch shots with a sand wedge or pitching wedge. This warms up your muscles slowly and helps get your swing into a nice flowing rhythm. It’s important to practice your pitch shots so this is a good opportunity.

2. Practice Body Rotations

A good way to warm up is to practice body rotation. Simply hold a club horizontally across your shoulders and stand up right. Make sure your feet are apart and firm. Start rotating the club along with your shoulders and hips back and forth ensuring your body always follows through. Once you have repeated this several times, then lean forwards from your hips, and take up your set up position, and continue to turn around your spinal axis to practice the correct body rotation for your swing.

3. Practice Half Swings

Once you have practiced your body rotation, take a pitch or sand wedge and hit between five and ten half swings. Then play five balls with alternate Irons, such as seven and five, before turning to hybrid and fairway woods. Finally, take out the Driver. Concentrate on swinging the ball away rather than hitting it. The key phrase to remember here is “Swing on Hit”. Make sure you keep your balance as you swing.

4. Finish With More Pitches

Finally, you can return to the pitching wedge or sand wedge to finish off with a few more pitch shots and reinforce that relaxed, flowing motion.

You are now ready to go out on the course and play a great round of Golf!
