T H E FA L L 2 0 1 5 COLLECTION This Fall, we are introducing our fourth collections for Cotton + Steel. As always, weâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ve designed our new fabrics to mix and match not only with each other, but with our past collections. With our brand new quilting cottons, garment friendly rayons and lawns, soft double-gauze, and our versatile cotton/linen canvas, we hope to spark your creativity. We canâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t wait to see what you make with our Fall 15 collections!

FRUIT DOTS My name is Melody Miller and my new collection, Fruit Dots, was inspired by a perfect flea market find - a box of vintage, brightly colored, 1960â&#x20AC;&#x2122;s flocked fruit. The graphic shapes and bright colors lent themselves perfectly to my modern fruit theme, and became the subject of many of my prints. From another inspiration, found in an amazing little Japanese book Rashida lent me, I created a whimsical lineup of hand drawn chewing gum wrappers. I also included a print on canvas and quilting cotton of hand painted portraits of 1960â&#x20AC;&#x2122;s-mod ladies with fabulous hairstyles and little cherry motifs. Those same sweet cherries appear on rayon, perfect for garment sewing.

CLOVER Alexia Marcelle Abegg’s newest collection, Clover, forms a full spectrum of color, making it perfect for quilting. Clover is inspired by a sweet little lamb and her adventures in a quaint European village. Many of the prints in Alexia’s collection were inspired by the sights little Clover would have seen on her big day of wandering the village and countryside, like old tiles in brightly painted colors, the wallpaper in a cafe, and a field of pretty tulips. Some dogs, that in Clover’s imagination look a little like lions, make a sweet kid’s print on soft double gauze. The wildflowers in Clover’s home meadow get a grown up treatment in two colorways of rayon.

MACRAME In her fourth Cotton + Steel collection, Rashida Coleman-Hale takes a groovy leap back to the 1970’s with Macrame. Inspired by the handmade craze that is making a modern comeback, Rashida’s group is filled with knots, beads, twists, and ties. Refined, but still young and fresh, Macrame features soft neutrals paired with rich, vibrant colors. This collection includes wall hangings, loopy owl motifs, hanging plants, bold leaves, bead curtains, and pattern guides from a vintage macramé book. One rayon, lawn, and canvas make this the complete collection for any type of sewer, from the adventurous quilter to the garment maker.

PENNY ARCADE Remember the field trips and vacations you took as a child? The sights, the sounds, the smells, all so grand and magical. Then you go back to those beloved places as an adult — maybe with your own children — and while things may be a little different than you remember, you still love it all the same. Penny Arcade, Kimberly Kight’s fourth fabric collection for Cotton + Steel, is about seeing the world through a child’s eyes, and about the power of nostalgia to keep old places and things alive and magical. These prints tell the story of a kids’ trip to the big city, where they go to see a puppet show, play arcade games, eat delicious treats, and play in the park.

C AT L A DY Sarah Watts’ latest collection, Cat Lady, features puuuurfect prints for cat lovers. These delightfully quirky cats appear on quilting cotton, rayon, and double gauze. Sarah’s favorite of this group is inspired by antique cat drawings she saw in a print shop in Japan. Her simple supporting print, “Friskers” reads as a typical dot pattern until you notice there are little kittens sprinkled throughout. Sarah also included yarn balls unraveling across fabric, and a rich, hand-drawn floral that is great for garments. Whether you are the Cat Lady, or have one dear to you, this collection is sure to please all the feline friends in your circle.

BLUEBIRD We’re so excited to introduce Bluebird, a 23 piece collaborative collection by our Cotton + Steel designers. Bluebird forms a spectrum from warm, textured, intentionally aged indigos to bright classic cobalt and white. One of our inspirations for this group was handdyed, worn, and aged Japanese textiles. To achieve the watermarks and stains that occur on vintage fabrics over time, we relied on the skill and precision of our Japanese printer. They beautifully rendered the handpainted brushstrokes, watermarks and intentional discoloration in our designs. To add even more warmth and texture we chose to print many of the designs on unbleached fabric. These prints add depth, richness, and character to our Bluebird quilts. We balance this worn aged treatment with crisp, porcelain and cobalt designs that include whimsically drawn cutlery, hand-painted blueberries, crayondrawn bowties, and friendly tiger faces. Sarah’s “Mystery Food” Octopi make a reappearance here in two colorways, and are featured on quilting cotton for the first time.
