Not content with sending in the photo on the cover, Hulky also sent us in this one. He swears it was taken on a different day at a different place, this time at the top of the Coromandel.

With prizegiving coming up it’s time for anyone with a trophy from last year to get it back to us. Please return them as soon as possible so Steve can get them ready for their new custodian. Either bring it along to the next club meeting or call Stephen Watts 0210335145

Newsletters, back to January 2018, are available online here. They have been uploaded in higher resolution then the old pdf versions were emailed out in, so the pictures especially should be better quality.
Harbour Rescue
Five men were rescued after their boat capsized near Puketutu Island on the 3rd of August, they were transferred to hospital as a precaution.
Police said the group was fishing when their boat flipped at 8.15am, “throwing them into the water”.
“One of the men was able to call for help as they clung to the hull of the upturned boat.”
“The Police Eagle helicopter, Coastguard Papakura and Titirangi, and a hovercraft vessel from Auckland Airport responded. Eagle dropped a float to the one man not wearing a lifejacket, and kept watch as rescuers made their way to the group.”
Police added the five men were in good spirits and were pulled aboard the hovercraft by 9.25am.
“Police are grateful to our partners for responding quickly and getting the group to safety.”
Coastguard Papakura and Titirangi said in a coordinated rescue effort, Police Eagle helicopter, Coastguard Titirangi and Papakura units, and Auckland Airport's hovercraft swiftly responded to the emergency.
“Thanks to their combined efforts, all five people were safely recovered.”
"The dedication and teamwork displayed by our Operations Centre team, our Coastguard volunteers, Police and Auckland Airport demonstrate the strength of working together to bring people home safely.
“This rescue acts as a reminder to anyone heading out on the water this winter to be prepared – check your equipment is in good condition, ensure everyone wears a lifejacket, take two forms of waterproof communication, and stay alert to changing conditions.”
Committee Nominations
Our annual general meeting takes place on the 28th August and one of the things that happens at the meeting is that the committee for the next year are voted in. Any club member can stand for election to the committee and we would particularly welcome applications from some of our younger members. The committee meets once a month, on the second Wednesday at the Cossie club. Meetings are generally only an hour or so and start at 7.30.
If you think that you have something to offer to the club, or you have some great ideas for things that we should be doing but are not then please think about joining the committee to make them happen.
All you need to do is get a member to propose you and one to second you and hand the application in at the AGM. If you would like to know more beforehand then there is a list of current committee members in the newsletter, contact someone you know and they can answer any questions you may have.
