Wrong charge The June 27 article headlined “Kirtsis Park burglar gets probation” wrongly indicated that James Arthur Smith stands accused of burgling the Youth League Concession stand at Kirtsis Park. While Smith stands accused of involvement in 15 burglaries — including one in which he is alleged to have conspired with Brian Maninger and Joshua Miranda, who are accused of burgling the concession stand — he has not been charged with involvement in the Kirtsis Park break in. Wrong figure The June 27 article headlined “Council bends rules for hungry kids” misstated Lincoln City’s budget for contributions to outside agencies. The total amount distributed is $45,000. The News Guard regrets the errors and the delay in their correction.

leneden Beach celebrated Fourth of July in style, with a parade including everything from clowns to Corvettes rolling down the main strip. Comic parade planning saw the gorgeous, gas-guzzling Chevrolets followed by a pair of silent, zero emission, electric vehicles. Elsewhere in the parade, the well-behaved horse section was equally gasolinefree and came with its own emissions attendant in tow. The day started with the Gleneden Beach Community Club Pancake Breakfast where a crew of volunteers served 1,224 eggs donated by Lincoln Beach Thriftway to more than 700 customers. The Craft Fair and Food Court provided pre- and post-parade entertainment. The Jeez Louise Raffle contributed more than $500 in cash and approximately 350 pounds of food to the

The Grand Prize went to The Focus Pocus 4-H Club, whose goat float won them three nights lodging at Beachcombers Haven Vacation Rentals, dining gift certificates from Bay House, Fathoms, and Shucker’s Oyster Bar. Sweitz Acres’ Belgian horse drawn wagon, carrying the enthusiastic Taft Cheer Team, won the Judges’ Special Award — one night’s lodging and 18 holes of golf at Chinook Winds Casino Resort and a dining gift certificate from Sea Hag. Allen hopes to join Gomberg and Grant on ballot PATRICK ALEXANDER The News Guard
A handful of votes could create a three-way race to represent the Coast from Tillamook to Yachats in the Oregon House of Representatives as the Independent Party primary reaches its conclusion on July 17. The race had looked to be a straight contest between Lincoln David City kite Allen promoter David Gomberg and Depoe Bay restaurateur Jerome Grant, who walked unopposed to the David Democratic Gomberg and Republican nominations respectively in May. But now, the Independent Party of Oregon primary, Jerome which Grant began on June 19, has the potential to alter the race by introducing Newport City Councilor David Allen as a third candidate. Allen, a registered Democrat, is competing in the online primary against fellow Democrat Gomberg.

“That’s a lot of people,” she said. “That’s a lot of business that moves around in that area.” Casper said Nelscott residents have been fully involved in the urban renewal process since the area’s community planning effort began in 2006. “If you decide that this project is not a priority,” she said, “please know that you have let down the citizens of this community, who entered into this process with the full intent of [creating] a product that will benefit everyone who works, lives and visits in this area.”
